Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, and Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) via this app provides consumers in India access to product labelling information required under Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011, and FSSAI license information. Simply scan the product barcode and get access to: • Product/Commodity Name • Name & Address of Manufacturer/Packer/Importer • Month & Year of Manufacture/Pack/Import • MRP • Net Content • FSSAI license number and its validity • Consumer care details (phone & email) for lodging grievances/feedback Consumers can also send product feedbacks or register complaints/concerns related to the product directly to the Regulators. Smart Consumer mobile app has been developed by the Department of Consumer affairs, in association with GS1 India – a standard body set up by Ministry of Commerce & Industry, along with BIS, and apex trade bodies.

This app do as says. Great help. Well done govertment of India. Guys, if any information is missing after scanning, it is not the fault of the app. This happenes when the manufacturer don't upload their product details. So don't give less star to the app for no fault of theirs.

3 stars for efforts being made to bring this app, but, it has to go long way to provide meaningful information. So many fields are blank . Date of Expiry is blank, as it is often changed by vendors esp in online purchase of products ,it must be there . Most of the time , incomplete info about product . its more about manufacture details and less about product . Needs aggressive content updation .

The intention of the app is good but it defeats the purpose as most of details does not appear after scanning the code. It only gave me product name and nothing else. I would suggest to include only those products which has all the information.

Mostly the data is missing. If the data is always missing for most of the products then there is no point in creating such app. Also how will this app identify real or fake product just by scanning the barcode? If the fake product also uses just one original barcode/gtin in all the fake products, in that case always this app is going to show as original. Total wastage of government and taxpayers money which has been used in creating such useless app. Please spend this money and resources in some good cause.

Great, reliable way to find out if a product is fake. Wonderful effort. Only drawback is, that if the product is fake, it doesn't throw up the customer care details (understandable, but it kind of defeats the purpose of that particular feature).

I did try with few items. However it gave me only the details of the manufacturers. No MRP etc. Either manufacturers are cheating the public or app couldn't retrieve the data. Such an app should be more helpful to the end-user.
