Reviews From google play store

It's not perfect, but it's still pretty good IMO. Sometimes there are sync issues so it's a bit annoying to have to manually re try a few times, but overall it's minor and I'm more than willing to look past that for the amazing service they provide.

What a huge performance boost from the latest app, especially with photos. A welcome change and one that makes the app usable with browsing photos. Been using Next Cloud on my home server in a docker container for over a year now. I have completed weeded myself off Googles storage and upload solution on my Pixel phone. This replaces my usage with Notes, Photos, and Drive. Thank you for the amazing product. Keep the good work up.

I installed the Nextcloud server on a storage heavy cheap system at home, and between this app and the web interface I have everything I could want in self hosted cloud storage. The auto upload feature is super handy, and being able to set it to upload only on wifi helps not chew up data. Best app and server software I've found. If I could rate higher I would!

I really love what nextcloud has done so far for owning your cloud. But this app really miss one crucial factor: uploading existing images and photos. This is so basic. This is the main reason I have my own cloud. Backup my existing data. I've read only that the iPhone version has feature working perfectly. I had to install third party apps to do it here in Android. I really hope this app gets this feature soon.

This app is okay. But let me tell why. First of all it's not really speedy it takes longer to upload file to my Nextcloud Instance on via Ethernet than to Google Drive!!!! Alomg with the other problem I had, I didn't understand what was the difference between Move file to Nextcloud folder, Keep file in source folder and Delete file from Source folder when I wanted to simply upload a file.

Really useful app. Love the privacy with encryption. Developers really responsive.

App failed to allow me to login to my server. Could login using browser. App used to work. The story goes on. Currently the app is doing a denial of service attack on my phone. During a rather big upload frome the phone it continues to being up a server not found message. The server is running fine and storage is available. The tell tale sign is the certificate warning which hits on the self signed certificate I use. This all started after a recent app upgrade.

Great open source app (and platform). Latest version fixes sever unavailable (even though server is contactable via https on same device) issue. Would be nice if you could tag photos in the app and then share via tag, but this is not really the apps fault.

It's good to have opportunity to add a PIN but then you can't download from Nextcloud to any app which can see it. Even when the Nextcloud app is running and PIN has been entered.

since last update I have many errors: ssl initiation error when I try upload small video.mp4. That was problem on my server. Not enough space. Problem solved.

Would be great if you can download file to phone's "Downloads" or other folders directly. The workaround is to send file to some other phone's app than can handle it and copy to some other location

The control of uploads is great and far more detailed than my experience with other third party apps (that aren't Google/apple/Microsoft).

Awesome app. I personally admire the work of NextCloud Team and Frank Karlitschek. Fan of his work.

I have been absolutely unable to sync one large folder (photos) for over a month. Tried reinstalling the app, still not fixed. This app literally can't do its ONE job. I mean, come on.

Completely unusable. As soon as you login and enter 2FA number, it kicks you back to the login screen. Tried reinstalling, restarting phone, etc.

App does not connect to server from networks other than home one, keeps asking for a password and rejecting it, even if it is a correct one. Unusable

Just works with my home spun Nextcloud server...don't have to rely on Microsoft, Amazon, or Google clouds

Photo section shoud have a search and sorting by tag, name or date.

Can not login, after i enter my password i keep looping back to the login menu

It works ) Ok, automatic upload does not for me, but they will fix it

Can't set own storage path. Just 4 prepopulated options.

latest version kicks me back to login page afyer I login.

awesome when you know how to install your own server. great app!

Best syncing app for backing up to my self hoseted server.

Seeminglt after a password change on the web version of Nextcloud, you cant re-login / update the password... Meaning you are forced to add a "new account". Resulting the current upload queue not to run. Numerous reports about this matter on GitHub! Next to this the app has not an option to sync the gallery with nextcloud which are missing nor does it have an option to sync all images (like the iOS app has) ... -3

This is the client-side file-sync tool for NextCloud (which is basically DropBox on steroids, but hosted on your own personal infrastructure, or pay a third-party provider you trust to host it). Only problem I've had with this is sync is somewhat unreliable, but that seems to be a problem with Android rather than the app itself; to work, the app really needs to run persistently, and Android really doesn't like to allow that.

I love the desktop sync application, and I would like to use the Nextcloud Android app instead of Amazon Cloud Photos for backing up my phone photos/videos. But there are unexplainable file upload failures so I cannot get a sizable and seemingly random portion of my photos and videos backed up to my Nextcloud installation. All files are below the 511MB PHP limit. Any ideas how to stop this would be great so I can 100% drop Big Data for my cloud solution.

All the core features work wonderfully. I really want a basic compatibility layer with plugins though, and an in-app calendar and contact browser would be amazing as well. Meanwhile people who need full features can use the (slightly clunkier) Progressive Web App by visiting in a browser (there's usually an "add to home screen" type of button). Adding the mentioned features would make this PERFECT.

First of all. thanks to all the devs for the app. im using the latest version but cant download files anymore using the app. works A1 on the web. im using 15.0.10. Nothing relevent in the logs. Only warning I have is about the fact that the server has no internet connection. thats a mistake. just downloaded stuff from it plus I can get a remote ssh connection to it. i can get my public ip and all... not sure how to debug this. thanks in advance for the help

Great product -- though the web version using Firefox works better than the whole app for simple things like creating/renaming folder or uploading pictured for me. In the app it almost always loops infinitely in a wait status. This has been like this for months, if not years. Android9/Pixel2.

It's incredibly stupid, that the app doesn't have default option for exporting files to the device's file system. Yes, you can export the file via "Share" menu and third-party file manager app, but this isn't how it should be done. Adding just this simple feature will make the app ten times better.

Great private cloud companion app

This app is broken and abandoned. first of all it doesnt upload existing pictures, and that hasn't been resolved yet even though the issue has been up for a long time, and the auto upload feature does not work well at all for none of my users, and the issue has been up for a long time as well now and the developers has stopped answering. its abandoned by the developers. it's really outdated.

Signing is somewhat difficult

Loving the application. I am able to upload files from my PC with the Next Cloud windows app and able to access those files on my android phone. I tried three same with Pydio, but that was a failure. NextCloud is working smoothly.

Generally works very well, even with multiple accounts. I've found that streaming audio from files within the app works intermittently. Would like to see a dark theme.

i want to like this but its riddled with bugs! A simple thing like auto upload doesn't work and googling the issue its been buggy since years.. too bad.

should have handled photos better. It has a photo tab but very slow and can crash the app sometimes.

Server setup is a nightmare for the average user. The android app doesn't auto sync existing files. The desktop app struggles with specific file names. Self managed cloud is great but has a long way to go...

Doesn't work at all. My instance is perfectly accessible and responsive in a browser, but the mobile app just says "testing connection" endlessly.

love this application and accompanying app. If you're looking to host you're own cloud this is the package for you!

Quite OK app. It would be great if you had the possibility to upload automatically only within a certain Wifi (SSID). Thanks for the work, dear devs :)

Works flawlessly, just enter in the URL of my nextcloud install and it links up. Been using it for over a year with no issues.

It's a great alterative to Dropbox!

locks up alot. kill the app restart. get another step or two. locks up. kill it and start again. freeze. the app has stopped. then i kill it and start again.

Your app doesn't log in with the correct credentials. POS

was synching fine. but now won't sync because battery optimization keeps showing errors even when no battery optimization is being used.

I'm trying to connect to my account but it says could not find host. I can access on browser in same smartphone.

keeps logging me out... Your next log in with be throttled... I can never access my content with this app

Mediocre at best. The auto upload is particularly wonky.

lot of things to fix and improve ... anyway very good app

App gets worse with each update lately. Don't recommend using this terribly coded app. Just use something else and save yourself some grief. Not recommended !

Bad app keep disconnecting

Couldnt upload a thing with WiFi

Lacks too many commands! Can't stop a download!

Its a nice looking app, but its very slow compared to a standard web browser app. Also, it seems that a few media files are not supported on this app. Because most of my mp4 and avi videos wont play, even though they work fine on any browser app.

Honestly, it was good was signing up on the various providers to see which ones had the upgrade option & deleted my account each time I exited from the provider so that I can find my ideal candidate But now when I tried to sign up with the same account it says "Error: this user already exists" WTH, I just wanted to see which ones click with me& how can I check the other providers if this goes on like this I hope you can fix this

Doesn't work with own servers, just hangs

Ok. Wish it allowed for increasing the size of the text in the Andorid app. Font size is awkwardly small. Also - the upload button (if there is one) needs to be larger or more obvious. Developers - please fix this.

You guys are the best. Just having trouble with playing mp3 files. I need to use open with instead. Video files are playing fine. Overall I'm very happy with the developers of this app

Hello, Autoupload doesn't work. I manually created folder on the server using web browser, and checked in the app to create year folder and month. It gives "connection error" in uploads queue. So the app is almost useless for me

been using nextcloud for a while now and I absolutely love it! The app isn't perfect and sometimes it crashes but it's getting better with every update. The main problem for me is the loading time of the previews (for images) which sometimes gets stuck even if those are already pre-generated.

Man I love nextcloud but good God this app sucks. Constant crashes clicking photos in the menu doesn't show photos instead its constantly loads or crashes. I'd be willing to pay a few dollars a year for some good work on this app. I think most people would agree. This app needs alot of work. Limited organization with only favorites working. No tags in this app. Don't expect a fun easy browsing experience here.

eats significant battery intermittantly. not easily traceable but forcably deny it on cell data and battery lasts a lot longer. forcably because the app seems to ignore the setting in the app. also when battery saver is enabled on phone AND app is excluded from it, it still wont auto upload on wifi. it just stops until you turn the saver mode off. nice app otherwise. just have to decide between no safe phone pics and a days battery or saved pics and a couple hours battery :(

Nowadays autoupload is not working

I already have nextcloud installed on a server. This damn thing wants to download a pdf before viewing. Makes no sense. Won't play a song unless you have a player installed. More nonsense. I can https into my server and do all these things with the apps built into Nextcloud. I wish the app was smart enough to figure that out.

When I try to add another account it removes the first one

Makes my life easier. I use this app on my own webhost. For Notes, Files and other stuff.

Worked great for about a month. Migrated my server over to new hardware and mobile app failed to update the folder list. Removed the account and recreated it in the app and now it is an endless loop of logins. Looks like it logged in but no folders or files show up, then after a minute it just jumps back to the login screen again. Regular login fails, app token method fails. DavDroid and Notes app login perfectly fine and do what they are expected to, but no access to my files anymore. Disappointed to say the least.

9/17: 1st try: Cannot access files. Folders are empty when opened (works fine using a web browser instead). I like nextcloud but this app is not mature. Update: Can get it to work but only on an old tablet, not on Nexus5X... Strange thing: For the same version 1.4.3 the Settings panel is a bit different: on Nexus5X the instant uploads (picture upload, etc.) are missing. 11/18: 2nd try: Decided to give it another try. Can't login = I'm running into the "NextCloud stuck at "Redirecting" login issue" (easy to find w/ Google search) - the usernane + password are recognized, but it goes to "reverts to old login method' and then fails to connect still = "Malformed server configuration" error...

new update has broken auto upload. all that happens is I get an error about local storage being full!!! EDIT: Thanks for responding. I have 128gb local storage and a 512gb sd card which is where my pictures are saved to. I'm only using 30gb or so on local storage currently so I should have the space for any images/videos I take. I try to keep at least 10gb of local storage free at any one time for things like updates so I'd have thought that would be more than enough as I mostly take pictures.

Oddly, the v2.22.15.10 version works fine for iOS, but the android v3.3.2 version for android (moto g) doesn't auto-upload from Storage/xxxx-xxxx/DCIM/Camera doesn't work, even remembering to switch on the Android frameork syn (Settings>accounts>nextcloud>syn on) didn't have any effect. I spent almost an entire weekend, using internal memory, external SD card, changing folder names and the only way I could achieve sync was to manually upload or move photos to the photos folder, which defeats the object. My conclusion, this andoroid version is too old and doesn't match the Nextcloud 14 documentation, but the iPhone version is up-to-date and works beautifully. Shame my wife doesn't have an iPhone.

Open Source at its best! You can get it up and running in Docker in less than 2 minutes. It took me however a bit longet the first time as it needed a hard reboot of the server to work. A "sudo reboot" wasn't enough. NextCloud is soooo much better than the incumbent from the US! Thanks to the team of NextCloud for all their hard work and dedication.

I love Nextcloud server and client software on desktop, both Linux and Windows. It allows me to control and share my data seamlessly across the devices. This App has some issues, some pretty bad ones. The worst of them - the app lock does not work, particularly using device credentials. Unlocking it minimizes the app, so it requires new authentication to unlock, which minimizes it again and again. Uninstalling the app and not using the lock is the only remedy. I am on Android 8.0.0.

Really handy app to have your files on the go. Still need polishing around the edges, but this is slowly happening. An amazing app from an amazing platform!

Constantly scans all folders for new files e.g. pictures - some might call this a feature, due to lack of options and controls this monitoring has to be classified as not meeting privacy standards. Rest works like a charm. A pitty as nextcloud has the potential as personal cloud in general (still a long road to go..'geht das auch ohne Frickeln?').

the app just does something wired, for example if you select multi files and delete them it it refresh the UI after each file deletion!! it should be async another thing is the notification it generate a new notification for each upload (multi upload together) when should refresh the same one with numeric indication. Oh and the auto-upload does not work at all

Worked great for a long time, but after latest update it started to reupload everything, which is a lot. I think it's something with the settings which are reset, but can't check it since it crashes when I open it. Was forced to uninstall since it absorbed all my data :( Edit: No everything is still the same.

App design and features are good. The biggest problem is that the uploads are so painfully slow, it's not even feasible to upload them directly from my phone. At first I thought it was a server setup issue, but I have not experienced this slowness from PC or Mac.

Problematic. 1) No process bar when indexing, so you have no idea if it does anything at all until it starts to download files (which gives notifications). 2) Since 3.5.0 the App can not be closed. Even if you use "Force Stop" and close all "running Services" (in developer options), it respawns after a few minutes. 3) Since 3.5.0 serious sync problems with files greater than 1MB and no upload worked at all. Posted problem on the forum, but the only way to solve it was to downgrade to 3.4.2

Excellent App for the best private cloud solution out there. I'm using it since more than 2 years and never had any issues. Can't really understand why people complain. Would be great if you could also add a feature to make folders available offline. Thanks to all Nextcloud devs for their magnificent work!

Great App, good UI, solid code. Only the missing sync feature is bugging me (and many many others). Please push this feature, it is most likely the most wanted in the forums+github.. Other than that: Happy to have moved away from closed source software!

Stopped working all of a sudden. Asking for pattern or fingerprint. Neither my real device pattern nor my fingerprints are working. Fresh install. Only added one account. Did not change any settings. All prior versions worked. Cannot send any debug data as the app does not let me start. Please fix this.

Latest version just worked once after installation, next time it says wrong username and password

I really like it. It's fast, simple and convenient. Minor problems like lack of persistence when retrying failed uploads are negligible as the main advantage is huge - ability not to share your data with google/dropbox/etc by setting up personal cloud.

The app gets better, the previus problems with login in seems to disappear but sometimes still is slow and the very bad is that the built in video player doesn't support .mkv files but for example the owncloud app do support so it is something you need to look at. As far as I can remember the mkv format was possible to play before but not anymore. same as through the browser.

The Android app is.. painful! Ui poorly organized, unintuitive. No possibility to auto-upload already existing photos. The new version keep asking for pass code erratically and won't accept the correct one. It's a nightmare to use.

Not very good. Basically what one can do in a browser window. I have Nextcloud set up through my file manager and it works better than this! Auto upload doesn't work so for syncing you need an extra app (like FolderSync). This app is pretty much useless.

I would like to give it 5 stars but it's no good for a single Android user using an owncloud account. It is so full of issues it is not very useful for cloud storage. The associated Notes app does not connect, tried everything. It also doesn't backup contacts no errors it just doesn't back anything up. The associated Davx5 app also does not connect so can't be used to back contacts and calendar. Again just lots of connection errors. All it can do is back up simple documents. Sorry meant owncube!

Not working for me, I can log, manual upload but if I want tu upload more then 10 photos, after a few stops uploading them. Auto upload is not working as well. I disable battery performance, I added all the permissions, etc. I am on android 9.

Claims to be installed, but it's not there.

great app, use it with my own cloud server. keeps my data in house and safe.

Doesnt work on Pixel 3XL. I switched from a galaxy note to pixel and the app does load at all.

once you learn how to use it, it is great

Auto upload doesn't work. Doesn't remember settings. Edit: this option is disable. Edit2: yes but application doesn't remember settings. All the time I have to setup local folder and remote folder. Manual upload working well.

nice, but buggy and rather slow. photos overview doesn't work as an example. also couldn't find any options about let's say server update notifications, aren't those implemented? way better than the seafile app though :]

Please maintain metadata of the photo and video while uploading. The creation and modification date and time are the time that the photo are being uploaded. Please try to maintain photos original taken date and time when uploading to nextcloud server. Thanks

Works great. Would suggest a change to the gallery tab to utilize a folder structure instead of loading every image. For a large number of images this takes forever to load and has no discernable structure.

Authentication loop with NC 13. I log in fine, but with the current version I get No Files Here. the client app starts to sync and them goes back to the login screen. This is the same for two phones (S7 and Note 8)

The app is very user friendly. However, it has some bugs. Auto Upload doesn't not work. Fails to upload any files from selected folder.

requires following permissions on your android device.

view network connections
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.

send sticky broadcast
Allows the app to send sticky broadcasts, which remain after the broadcast ends. Excessive use may make the phone slow or unstable by causing it to use too much memory.

take pictures and videos
Allows the app to take pictures and videos with the camera. This permission allows the app to use the camera at any time without your confirmation.

Allows access to the list of accounts in the Accounts Service.

full network access
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.

control Near Field Communication
Allows the app to communicate with Near Field Communication (NFC) tags, cards, and readers.

read your contacts
Allows the app to read data about your contacts stored on your phone, including the frequency with which you've called, emailed, or communicated in other ways with specific individuals. This permission allows apps to save your contact data, and malicious apps may share contact data without your knowledge.

read sync settings
Allows the app to read the sync settings for an account. For example, this can determine whether the People app is synced with an account.

read sync statistics
Allows an app to read the sync stats for an account, including the history of sync events and how much data is synced.

run at startup
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.

control vibration
Allows the app to control the vibrator.

prevent phone from sleeping
Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep.

modify your contacts
Allows the app to modify the data about your contacts stored on your phone, including the frequency with which you've called, emailed, or communicated in other ways with specific contacts. This permission allows apps to delete contact data.

modify or delete the contents of your SD card
Allows the app to write to the SD card.

toggle sync on and off
Allows an app to modify the sync settings for an account. For example, this can be used to enable sync of the People app with an account.

receive data from Internet
Allows apps to accept cloud to device messages sent by the app's service. Using this service will incur data usage. Malicious apps could cause excess data usage.
