Works great to monitor dog while walking off leash. Findster works as designed. I have a forest property and take dogs off leash. Before the walk I turn on. Getting a good gps location requires contact with three satellites. It will not work if the dog is taken indoors. It cannot be left on all the time, because the battery will run down. I am surprised it works as well as it does in the forest, when the trees are full of leaves. There are a lot of videos on the findster website for details

This is an update to my original review. I purchased this as a dog tracking device, so I could keep tabs on my dog while out hiking. Unfortunately, I don't think the Findster product is capable of this. I get multiple disconnects and the tracking information isn't accurate, when my dog is never further than ~500 yards and is usually less than 100 yards from me. Findster support reported that there were a great number of obstacles between the guardian and the pet module. There were definitely trees in between, but I live in northern Colorado, with a dry climate, so the forest is not dense and there is very little underbrush. What this tells me is that the product is basically line of site. If I can see my dog, I don't need a tracker. So this might be useful as a pet activity tracker in completely open fields. 15-20 years ago we had inexpensive FRS radios that would connect across ski areas with no problems with trees and sometimes even work from the back side of a mountain, so it is possible to have inexpensive radio systems that work much better.

This product doesn't work! I love the idea of it, but after several months of changing settings, updating apps and firmware, the app still constantly loses connection within 50 or less. Customer service is very quick, but despite numerous complaints of the same problem and noted compliance with given instructions, they keep asking me to do the same thing to try to solve the problem. Also, one of my units, collar strap and all fell off on a run down a path within less than 30 days and is lost. Update: After some back and forth, Findster sent me a new set of trackers including replacing the unit that fell off. So far the performance is about the same though. : ( I am hopeful that perhaps a future update will fix the problem. I will update this review again if that happens.

Works as specified. The pet transmitter loses connection occasionally, and there is a 10 second latency but I can see my Huskies at the edge of the fenced property about a half mile away, through the forest. I hope it continues to work this way, and doesn't degrade in performance after updates (like Windows). Right now, after one day, I am very happy!

Edit--After firmware update to the modules there is marked improvement. This has helped me find our cats when they have gone past their normal roaming area for too long. In general this will do what you need and will help you find your pets if they stray too far. Customer service was very good, helpful and responsive. There are still some items that should be addressed. A force-refresh command would be nice to ensure your information is as immediate as possible. A few other minor things like battery life, more granular control over the ping-rate (whatever it's called) so one could, for example, increase battery life at the expense of information freshness and vice/versa. But like I said, it will do what you need and has helped us find our cats on numerous occasions when they've been over a mile away.

The app is pretty basic in it's functions but you don't need complicated functions to find your dog. The app has a 10 second refresh so there is some lag. So expect to find your pet in a certain area and wait a few seconds to increase accuracy. There is also a lag when you start the app and it communicates with the receiver and the pet tag. Once it's up and running it has great range even in thick woods. I even lost the tag and used the receiver to find it in the trunk of my car.

I purchased this system for keeping track of my two cats when I let them out. It works very well. I can sit outside or in my home office and watch their progress on my phone as they move around an area of probably 1000 - 1500 ft. radius (haven't had opportunity to test it further, as if they go too far I fetch them and put them back on course). The area they roam is a condo complex so sometimes there are one, two, or three buildings between the Guardian module (mine) and the pet module. I have had no major issues with disconnects. On the RARE occasion that it has disconnected (only long range and obstruction) it reconnects quickly. For me, the Findster is a perfect system.

They recently updated the app to where you have to be within bluetooth range to turn on tracking. My dog ran off while I was putting my other dog in the car. But because i didn't click "start a walk" I have no clue where he is. If the tracking would be on as default, he'd likely be in range. I bought this product to track the location of my dog, the setup worked fine before the update but now they care more about step counting than doing what their company name suggests which is "Find"ing pets.

Edit: While I had to make my unhappiness with the end of Duo support known rather emphatically, Findster did in the end decide to resolve the problem in a way I find completely satisfactory. I am thrilled--my search for an alternative had few contenders and the Findster system really has them beat in several ways (distance, rural/dataless coverage, phone integration, size). This company will stand behind their products in the long term; a vital factor in my choice to support and recommend them.

App works fine for my phone (Oneplus), but not for my wife's (Huawei). One module's on/off switch gave out about a year into ownership. My wife had given a poor review due to connection issues so we got the response, "We'll replace the broken module if you delete your review." This is regarding the module that stopped working, not the connection issues. With that said, if your product is incompatible with some Android devices, that should be clearly displayed online.
