Files by Google is a file management app that helps you:
✨ Free up space with cleaning recommendations
🔍 Find files faster with search and simple browsing
↔️ Share files offline with others, fast and without data
☁️ Back up files to the cloud to save space on your device

In just a few taps, you can free up space more quickly and easily than ever: delete old photos and memes from chat apps, remove duplicate files, delete unused apps, clear your cache and more.

Use Files to see how much free space is left on your phone and SD card. Easily transfer files to an SD card to free up your phone’s storage, straight from the app. Or use the integrated file cleaner to get more space on the phone.

You will always know what you’re deleting; we don’t hide behind complicated terms and phrases. Select only what you want to remove and keep the rest. It’s your photos, your videos and your files, so you are in charge.

Use Files to keep enough memory, so that your phone keeps running smoothly. You get regular prompts to remove junk or temporary files, which helps you get more storage immediately.

Get helpful suggestions of files to delete before you run out of space. The recommendation from the Files app gets smarter the more that you use it.

Save time looking for photos, videos and documents on your phone. Files uses filters rather than folders so your stuff is organised more intuitively. Files by Google is the file manager and storage browser that helps you find what you’re looking for fast.

Search for your files or simply navigate to them through categories and filters. View, delete, move, rename or share any files. Sort them by file size to understand what’s taking up space. Browse all the GIFs that you have. Find and share that video that you downloaded last week. All of this with a few taps.

Share your pictures, videos, documents or apps with others nearby who also have the app. With fast speed up to 480 Mbps, it’s fast, free and it works without the Internet, so it doesn’t cost mobile data. Just pair up your phone with anyone nearby who has the Files app.

Files’ offline file sharing is secured with WPA2 encryption, providing a more secure file transfer. Files app uses Bluetooth to set up encrypted and direct, fast Wi-Fi connection, so that you can transfer app APK or large files in seconds, and send videos or pictures to your friends. Safe and secure.

If you want to keep a file forever, select it from the Files menu and back it up to Google Drive or any other cloud storage app. Save them forever without using space in your phone.

If you run out of storage on your phone, simply transfer large files or videos to your SD card if you have one. With a few clicks, you can clean up your phone and fully use the SD card. That leaves your internal storage free and your phone faster.

Files app uses less than 10 MB of storage on your phone. And there’s no malware or bloatware to affect your phone’s performance.

While taking up very little storage on your device, Files does three things in one:
1) Free up space – Clean junk files and cache, boost your mobile phone or tablet as you clean up the phone memory, and optimise your smartphone performance.
2) Find files fast – Browse your storage and find everything fast without being an expert in file management.
3) Share files – Send pictures, share videos, transfer large files or app APKs. All of this with super-fast speed up to 480 Mbps over an encrypted, direct Wi-Fi network.

App ChangeLog

  • - Receiving transferred files to SD card if internal storage is limited.
  • - Minor bug fixes and improvements.

Reviews From google play store

I particularly like the "removal of duplicate files" feature. It fortunately has a dark mode too and it has gotten smoother with updates. But, the features are somewhat less compared to, say, SolidExplorer. It doesn't provide something like a "Tiles/Thumbnails" view. It doesn't have the option of "file encryption". It doesn't have "batch rename", pretty important for me. It doesn't have "Select in Range", that's very important. We can't keep selecting files one by one. Try to implement these.

Mike, moto e5 plus running Android 8 (Edit Jan 28th) I use this for file clearing I managing files with a different app. A file clearing app from the operating system maker, I expect that to work. It's got a, clear interface & it works as expected. WARNING. Make sure you know where the file is stored before you delete it though. If you see a depiction of a removable memory card on a file icon, then that's where the file is, not your internal memory.

So far I'm enjoying using the app, it has the features necessary to keep my device in good shape. I had rated four stars, but after using it for a while I felt it deserved five stars. Further, for being a free app.. without any ads I felt compelled to add some more positive notes to my previous comments. While I know that no app is entirely perfect, this app does really do a good job of what it's designed to do.

I'm furious that a proprietary app is necessary to browse my files, and that it is not even functional. Navigating your files has never been more opaque, moving them has never been so impossible. Even though my SD card has plenty of storage, I am unable to locate the files that are taking up space on my phone to even move them. Browsing files should be part of the phones OS.

Moving a file to a subdirectory does copy-and-delete (slow, wearing), instead of just a filesystem edit. Cannot start a search from the current directory. Wasting time and battery life on infantile animations. There is another file manager app, which does all these right and takes less storage space. Since this app cannot be removed, just disabled, I consider it bloat-ware.

SO EASY TO USE!!! So grateful for that. Love that it breaks down how and where all the junk is or/& duplicates so you can go through each section at a time "if" you want to delete. Or you can do all at once. It doesnt just delete everything you can skim through to see if you want to disregard or not. Great app! Especially for me, i needed to purge easily and quickly b/c I had so much content it would take hours, maybe days?!? Lol! #Readyfor2020

It's ok. It does some of what es file explorer did, but not all, or maybe not as well. For instance, if you want to move an mp3 from the downloads section of your internal memory to your removable microSD card, it will only let you put it on the card, not specify where on the card (which folder, such as microSD>music) you would like to move it to The interface is very stylish and visually comfortable, though, as you would expect with an app released by Google

I like how quick and simple this App is to use. And the speed and basic functionality of my phone are clearly evident when I use it again, after clearing the cache (duplicate copies of files). However, I've also noticed that some of the files, which should've been deleted from my phone's memory, actually appear on the list. Maybe I don't fully understand how to use this App,'s possible that my expectations are too high.

Files by Google is a lightweight alternative to the better known Android file explorers. I like that it can create P2P file transfer connections with other users without the need for a data connection, whilst the cleanup feature is also neat. The actual file explorer function, whilst useable, is rather basic so the addition of features, such as Google Drive browsing, would be great to include.

this app is so very helpful, and not many ads either! if you are looking for a app like this, this one is a excellent choice, it does exactly what it says and it even shows you how to use it. if i can learn to use it and navigate it as quickly as i did ( im not real good with electronics) any one can do it, and i was using it as soon as the tutorial was done!
