Skew-T Log-P diagrams are commonly used for weather analysis and forecasting. They graph weather balloon data to show the vertical profile of the temperature and dew point through the atmosphere.

See the following Soaring Society of America web link for a great article describing how glider pilots use skew-t graphs to predict weather for a days flight.

Awesome app, Only thing is my phone screen is large but skew t box is too small for my screen. It would be better if its size and aspect ratio changes with screen size.

  2. Timothy Ponepal-avatar

    Timothy Ponepal

Great little program to see cape index, wind speed and direction!!!! Great for storms

  3. Michael Gross-avatar

    Michael Gross

It was a decent app, though not truly necessary as all the data can be found on the Web. But now it wants access to everything on the phone to function at all. It's not going to happen. Absolutely not. I understand the desire to log for debugging purposes, but let's just put it this way: HELL NO. You do not need this for routine operation.

  4. John Simon-avatar

    John Simon

Great quick skew t , good for any airport or use lat / long . Interactive, so you can change the ground temperature / trigger point. Models including bak, named, op40 and more. Useful zoom feature, plus numerical top of lift / cloud base and temperature as well add wind information.

  5. Bret Hess-avatar

    Bret Hess

Excellent...a lot easier than using NOAA site.

  6. Dave C-avatar

    Dave C

Not bad for what it is. Just need some clarification on certain things, most importantly are the model times on the slider Zulu or local? It's pretty important. I see others have asked the same. With a little spiffing up here and there it could be great.

  7. Mic Sherwood-avatar

Love this app. Saves me loads of driving to thermal sites, just to get scunked. Just wish i could hold more than 3 site favorites.

  8. Brett Lykins-avatar

it never loads any data and crashes almost constantly. would probably be a good idea if it actually worked.

  9. Erik Delf-avatar

Used to love it. Now it requires access to my photos/media/files??? worked fine before. Uninstalling now

Great app, thank you. I have been watching the READY.arl.nooa Skew-t on daily basis for some 15 years. Time for a change. Too bad there is no donate button ;)

Very useful! Maybe a short description of how to use the thermal trigger and other 'what if' scenarios in the quick start guide would be helpful to learn how to use it properly, but with a bit of patience it will come to you once you experiment with it for a bit. ### Don`t forget to give the app storage and location permissions in settings/apps/sqew-t, otherwise it will not keep your favourite locations and you will not be albe to use the map for location selection! ###

Really nice app. However I can not access the "settings" menu to change units. I mean the menu is just not here... I'm using Samsung S4. Any idea about how to make the "settings" menu appear? [EDIT] with the help of the developer Alan, it appears that the menu button is located at the bottom left on my phone. => SOLVED :-)

  19. Adrian Atanasov-avatar

    Adrian Atanasov

It's very good app. It worked fine on my last phone, but now it doesn't allow me to click on map for lat/long. What should I do? Xiaomi Redmi 4x P. S. Location permission was the the issue. Thanks 👌

  20. Jan Frederik Léger-avatar

    Jan Frederik Léger

Very useful app for me as a paraglider pilot. Great, fast feedback from the developer when I mentioned two problems I had with the app. If having troubles with saving your favorites or with using the Google Map for getting the lat/lon coordinates, go into your phones Settings -> Apps -> Skew-t -> Permissions and enable "Storage" and "Your location" :-)

  21. Todd Hahn-avatar

    Todd Hahn

Great app for determining what the weather is going to be like (if you know how to read a skew-t plot of course). Perfect for glider pilots for forecasting when the thermals will kick off and where cloud base will be.

  22. Vinko Soljan-avatar

    Vinko Soljan

This is one awesome app! Great work! BUT LAST DAYS IT DOES NOT WORK. FOR LAT/LON POINTS GFS SAYS NO DATA!

  23. Devin A.-avatar

    Devin A.

Two suggestions: The time for the slider needs detail. Is it referencing zulu or local? I can't tell. Also, a brief description of the models in the info wouldn't hurt. I'm familiar with some, but not all. That's easy to look up though. Aside from that, absolutely excellent app! Makes upper air analysis a breeze and a real value to GA ops. I'll be recommending it. Thank you very much for this!

Thanks for building the app. I am a big fan of the rucsoundings site. There was an issue that was fixed right away by the author of the software. Thank you!!!! I look forward to using this app.

It's really been handy when I'm on field looking for a quick reference. Please note, though, that recently this app quit working for some reason. It doesn't recognize any airport. Alan, please review. Thank you!

    Andy Pag

Can't get it to recognise my local airport codes in Northern Ireland, and the map tool to find locations seems unfinished. Designer very responsive, but those suggestions didn't help. Great potential but some way to go. Hoping for an update.

Full graphical interface for RUC soundings, much better than fiddling with the tiny lettering and buttons on the NOAA site. Plus it displays the local time. Developer is wonderfully responsive. And the app is free. Not much more you could ask for. SEP'16 EDIT: need to manually give the app location and storage permissions to work properly, it does not seem to ask for them during installation.

Brilliant. Well done Alan. 12/9/2016 Alan, tried to load on my Galaxy Note 10. 1 2014' Drop down menu (settings) does not show up and the ceiling info is not presented . No problems on galaxy s5 phone. Can this be remedied?

  37. Ray Adams-avatar

Pretty cool app to see what is happening above, would be much better if I didn't lose my favorite airports every time I closed or minimized the page.

  38. Alfonso Soto-avatar

It crashes everytime I try and click on the Find my Location. So I had to put in my Lat/Long, and it worked one day but not the next time I used it. 😑

I'm a hang glider pilot and have been searching for this information in a simple to use platform. This app has now taught me so much and will increase my knowledge on the day. Thanks so much for the info!!! GET A DONATE BUTTON!!! Worth it!!!

Great and needed with all the Java headaches. However, it needs custom dewpoint entry to fine tune cloudbase(LCL/CCL) to have the full functionality of the FSL Java plots.

Thanks to the dev for a wonderful app. I reported a couple of bugs, and he kindly fixed them.

  55. Rich Adams-avatar

    Rich Adams

... It would be nice if it covered all time periods. I appreciate the idea behind it appears to be for glider pilots but as a meteorologist this is actually a good app but it's annoying I can only view 8am to 7pm. All time periods are available on the ruc soundings site so it would be easy to incorporate I would've thought? I'm not sure what model it uses for bak40/13 but it never loads any data for on those models

I'm a weather forecaster and found this app to be pretty cool, especially with the different models available for forecast skew-ts... Unfortunately, it keeps crashing on my Galaxy S4 whenever I try to move the sliders.

  60. Derek Hoggart-avatar

    Derek Hoggart

I like the idea behind this, but I'm not sure why it won't load any data for me. I'm in Canada, so I tried Canadian airport codes and then I tried some American airport codes, still no data.. update: my firewall was causing some issues, after disabling it things work, I'll sort it out on my end. My apologies!
