As I've said before, when it works it's pretty good. Unfortunately on my last six walks the app stopped recording part way round on two of them. To rub it in I've just lost the pro subscription I got as a Viewranger user. I'm now expected to pay for a substandard product. I will still set it running at the start of a walk to see if it will work but you will not be seeing my subscription for a while.

After a couple of months of use I am starting to like OA, like so many VR refugees I hated OA at the start, but a combination of sticking with it and improving patches, I'm able to trust this app, it's still not perfect, the map randomly going black (cured by zooming out) is annoying and occasionally crashing. Hopefully the developers will keep up the progress.

Like that you can download just the areas you need for offline use rather than a huge area. No OS grid references available even when you download the OS maps. Also can't move a cursor around and see the location of where you have moved to. Will stick with viewranger at the moment and see what improvements are made to the functionality.

Very disappointed, It simply stops tracking, or doesn't even start, my android phone and wearable are both high enough spec and both worked perfectly with ViewRanger, I've tried it for 6 months (2 long walks each week) and so far only achieved 4 fully tracked walks. Its fine if you want to sit at home and view maps and create routes in your living room !

This is quite possibly the worst outdoor app I've ever downloaded, and that's against some stiff competition. I was encouraged to migrate from Viewranger, which I use frequently and happily but was bought by OA, but I will hold onto viewranger as long as I can. None of the available maps on OA can find big destinations that I hiked this summer, like, oh idk, Colorado's Fourteeners. The default outdooractive map is in metric, which will not be of use to USA users, pretty much ever. Ugh.

Always loved looking at maps and this is fantastic, the Pro+ yearly sub is a bit expensive but considering all the maps you get it's actually not that bad. I've used Viewranger previously and the different map costs soon mounted up with that as well. I have OS Maps and find the zoom function a bit flakey but not with this so far. Not used it out on the hills and in all honestly don't that much so can't comment.

Awful interface and unreliable. Forcing users of Viewranger to use this app while not providing the same options and services is very annoying. I can't sync my Irish OS map tiles (which I bought on Viewranger) with this app as it only provides the Outdooractive version, which in some cases is wildly inaccurate. Atitudes of several local mountains according to these maps is inaccurate by up to 100m and so cannot be relied upon for navigation. Very disappointing to see such basic, glaring errors.

Like most people around here I'm trying OA from VR (ViewRanger). I have used both extensively, and I like OA for planning tours, but I like VR much more when in the mountains. Like many others here, I don't think that the devs of OA are actually using the app themselves. When you are out, you need to know: where am I, how far is any point of interest that you can point to on the map, and what is the height difference to where I am. This is trivial in VR (thanks to the ❌) but impossible in OA.

While there are lots of advanced features, the app is let down by basic usability issues. I gave-up and reverted to using Anquet, which is a shame because I wanted to use the Harvey maps. 1. I want to be able to select the map scale and not have it automatically change scale as I zoom in. The scale changed too slowly and I had to be so zoomed in to view 1:25k maps that I couldn't see enough of the map to be useful. Auto zoom is fine but an option is required to manually select the scale. 2. Zooming in/out in the app too easily causes the map view to rotate. This should be less sensitive and/or have an option to lock to prevent rotation. The one finger zoom feature is good but doesn't replace the need to be able to lock north orientation. 3. Only small areas (40kmX40km) can be downloaded and it was too much effort to download the entire area where we were on holiday that caused me to try this app. Edit: I feel the developer's reply is fairly arrogant & complacent and assures me I made the right decision to cancel my subscription.

App does what it needs to do, but less intuitive than ViewRanger in my opinion. My biggest gripe is the lack of sattelite view. I really do miss that feature. EDIT: For those wanting/needing satellite map, it actually does exist. But yet again, it's not that obvious where to find it. I found the following instructions: "First, switch to OpenStreetMap or our own OutdoorActive outdoor map layer, then the satellite switch is shown." Come on OA, a little bit more User friendly - please.
