FX File Explorer features a Material Design UI and new ways to transfer your files between devices and computers:

* SMBv2 support.
* New "FX Connect" transfers files from phone-to-phone with Wi-Fi Direct. Supports NFC to connect two phones by physically touching their backs together. (requires FX+)
* New "Web Access" enables transfer and management of files and media from your computer's web browser. You can drag-and-drop entire folders to your phone from your computer, or stream your phone's music playlists to your computer over Wi-Fi. (requires FX+)

FX is a file explorer built to make working with files and media on your phone or tablet as easy as it is on your computer:

* Productivity-oriented "Home Screen": Directly access your important folders, media, and cloud storage
* Multiple window support, with dual-view mode to see two windows at once
* "Usage View" mode shows the total size and content makeup of every folder, as you browse and manage files
* Support for most file archive formats

FX protects your privacy:

* No advertisements
* No tracking of user activity: FX does not ever "phone home"
* Built by NextApp, Inc., a US corporation founded in 2002; all proprietary code was developed in-house

The optional FX+ Add-On module enables more functionality:

* Access networked computers, including FTP, SSH FTP, WebDAV, and Windows Networking (SMB1 and SMB2)
* Connect to cloud storage including Google Drive, Dropbox, SugarSync, Box, SkyDrive, and OwnCloud
* Manage installed applications, with support for browsing applications based on their required permissions
* Create and explore inside AES-256/AES-128 encrypted zip files
* Browse audio content by artist/album/playlist; manage and organize playlists
* Directly browse photo and video folders
* Encrypted password keyring (use one password to access network and cloud locations)

FX includes a number of built-in editing/viewing applets:

* Text Editor (with undo/redo history, cut/paste, search, and pinch-to-zoom)
* Binary (Hex) Viewer
* Image Viewer
* Media Player and pop-up Audio Player
* Zip, Tar, GZip, Bzip2, 7zip archive creators and extractors
* RAR file extractor
* Shell Script Executor

Android 8 / 9 Location Permission Notice

* NOTE: Android 8.0+ unfortunately required us to add the "approximate location" permission, as it's now required for apps that support Wi-Fi direct (because Wi-Fi direct leaks this information). FX does not ever actually query your location, and this permission will only ever be asked for on Android 8.0 and later when using FX Connect. This requirement previously applied only to Android 9.0, but because FX now specifies full support for the latest Android API, Android 8.0 also requires this permission.

App ChangeLog

  • * Android 8+ Fixes for FX Connect: Android 8+ *REQUIRES* us to add location permissions to use Wi-Fi direct (apps can theoretically abuse Wi-Fi discovery to get your location). Location is never actually used by FX. You will NOT be asked to grant this permission except when using FX Connect on 8+.
  • * New Google Drive/OneDrive implementation: faster/fault-tolerant uploads, edit documents directly (req Google / Microsoft Office apps).
  • * Fixes for Dropbox and WebDAV/OwnCloud
  • * Minor UI updates

Reviews From google play store

Many thanks to you for your application FX File Explorer! I believe it’s really outrageous. I use it for last 2 weeks and enjoy it a lot. The first feature, which led me to your explorer – was a range select. I mean, where a user needs to click only the first and the last file in order to select a big range of files; instead of clicking every file in between. This is really helpful, I was missing this feature in default explorer very much. I managed to sort out my gallery of photos for last 3 yr

First impressions it looked somewhat plain and simple but WOW! was i wrong. As a "ES File explorer" user from start ,never used anything but it. After diggin in(FX) settings ..i found themes, the translucent options caught my eye...it also has the dumb dark mode(not for me). It's my go to file explorer now,I absolutely LOVE it! Thankyou guys.

Have had this app for years (Pro version). Has been very reliable until recently. Now when I try to connect to my network pc, it is hit or miss. More often than not I have to restart my phone before it will connect. I rely upon this function. I emailed the developer, but have not heard back. And yes, I tried the suggestions from the FAQ. I expect more from a purchased product.

Good app. It will be best if you add feature like hidden cabinate and wirelessly transfer your file to PC. This feature is available in Asus file manager app please take reference of this app and try to add this feature in app. This will make Fx explorer is one of the best file manager on android. Thanks.

my file got missing after using this file explorer. i cut from download folder and paste to my hdd external. finishing paste and i eject my hdd external. but, after that i oppened using pc, my file got missing. i try many time and same as before. please fixed this. my file very important to me. i not give 5 because this. if u can fix this bug, i can give u 5 star

This is the best replacement I've found so far coming from ES Pro... Removing the media folders from the homepage is something you couldn't do in ES, so thank you! This has GREAT root abilities compared to other apps. I wish this had tabs &or swiping as ES did instead of the slide out, but far from a deal breaker... Pinch to zoom is nice, but I'm craving a bit more customization since I spend a lot of time in the file browser. Horizontal split screen is nice, but missing dragging of files.

Well it is awesome if I do say so myself. But there is one problem. When I use it on my android emulator(pc/bluestacks) it 99.9% of the time goes to text edit. Then I can't really rename the files to mod like on Pixel Blood Online. So i reinstall it. But other then that it's really good so im still going to give it five stars.

This is the best file browser I've ever use. It has a mature UI with loads of theme and customization. I've been using this for quit a while now. However, I will prefer if the dev could bring back the pop up menu when a file is long-press, this makes the app easy to use with one hand.

I used to like this but its nothing but constant errors. Reinstalling the app. Remounting the cards, re-applying write permissions.. none of it works always a constant "Error ... Internal" that's it.. no explanations nothing so even with write permissions I cant delete A SINGLE FILE. Yet the default file explorer has no issues at all. Useless... Unless its fixed.

Seems OK for free but i am wondering if searching for hidden folders is included in the free version. I am on the 7 day plus trial at mo because es file explorer pro has disappeared from play store and my purchases. 3rd paid app in 18 months to go grrrrr 😐 If the devs can answer that question for me i will be grateful 😐 .

One of the best file explorers out there. I do have a annoying problem with the app freezing everyone now and then when I launch the app. Never done that in versions prior. Anyway it definitely does the job and it's worth the premium version if you use online storage and such.

I've choosen this file manager after lot of exploring and I'm using the fx plus version since few days on my phone and android tv. And I must say it's a smooth and great experience. Just a little suggestion though, please add the shared folder in cloud storage too. (eg. Shared with me folder in Google Drive)

very good app but needs sum changes in UI, like adding tabs for different paths and adding menu for holding touch.its very annoying when touch and hold on file, nothing happens at all. sorry for my bad English

I had the ad version on my tablet and I paid to upgrade it to no ads full version. Now I want to put the no ads full version on my Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus phone but Google Play says that I have to pay the $2.99 again. Can someone please help me? I'll change my review if I can get some tech support. Thanks.

Best file manager I have ever seen, I just wish I had known it existed before. It does everything I need in a simple way I like the way you can manage all folders you have from the main window.

Fast, easy to use. Excellent local network access. Heads and shoulders above the paid ES Explorer Pro. Unless updates change things, this app is a keeper.

Well done! coming from ES File explorer pro, this is a fantastic replacement. the only thing that would be nice is to add gesture support to enable switching between open windows by swiping instead of choosing from a list. would also be nice to see transfer speed when copying network files. 5 stars all the way! if you are a former ES file explorer user, I think you will find this a perfect replacement.

Stopped working on my Shield TV after the most recent Shield TV update. When it's working, it's the best file exploren for android TV. After the most recent Shield TV Experience software update version 8.0.0 ( I get a message that the app needs to be unistalled and then reinstalled from the Play Store. However, doing so changes nothing. I have reinstalled multiple times and cleared data to no avail. The app now gails to access the device properly.

Out of the FE I've used, I've found this to be the best and have used it w/o any problems for the past year. File transfer through NFC, SMB and OTG have all been hassel free. Fairly feature rich overall. & @ an affordable price for the paid ver. esp fond of the priv policy. Just thought I'd add my review given the recent update. The only criticism I have is that I actually preferred the old icons. It's harder to differentiate with Grid View. Section is ok. Also .ogg format is not recognised.

This is by far the best file manager I've had the pleasure of working with. However, the latest update has made the UI, quite frankly, ugly. Besides the cosmetic issues, for some reason the latest update also replaced the ability to sort by file extension with the ability to sort by file "type". While this IS a helpful feature, it's not quite granular enough (ex: animated gifs get lumped in with static images) and it shouldn't replace file extension sorting.

In previous version of FX file explorer it was easy to move files from internal storage to external storage easily, but new version is asking to enable write access every time when we tRy to move Please update and fix the bugs.

Worked great until I bought it, then cannot connect to smb share. Funny story, I'm connected to that very smb share on another device at the exact same time that fx tells me it can't connect. Well, off to find a new file explorer.

Great app ... perfect for everything... highly recommend it to those who like to be organized and in control.

Noticed an issue when you search and click on a search result and then click back, it starts moving you up the file path and doesn't take you back to the search results as you would expect it to.

Good app. Fast, light and very powerful. But i want to open pdf fiile by my favourite app. Your pdf viewer not enough for reader. I want Bookmark /favourite function

There's nothing you need more that this app doesn't have, it does its job with speed and elegant interface, and on top of all there's no ads 👍🏻 for the dev.

This has been my go to explorer for a donkey's age. When I used to root different roms, phone needed reset my absolute first go to app. A few things are a tiny bit funky, perhaps getting dated, but its a real winner. It has a great balance of can-do abilities without a complicated interface. Text editor, media player not strengths. Its maybe not my favorite *ding ding* app - but it's my most respected. I'd had it so many years, I'd be lost without it. Best of show and for the win. FX.

I don't see where is the MAJOR change they talk about in the changelog. Except for the new ugly icon set and not-so-smooth scrolling effect and animations, all the rest is pretty much the same... A great and solid file explorer though, but I'll definitely NEVER understand why developpers universally feel the urge to change things for the worse, especially when there's nothing wrong to change in the first place...

Unbelievably good. I have tried many, many default and post production file managers but this takes the cake! Looking forward to Google Photos cloud support when it becomes possible.

I paid for this years back. One of the reasons I cannot use the app, is that sharing text from the browser to FX gives an error, and what's really diappointing, is that a free app CX File Explorer does. ES File Explorer fails just like FX. The free ones are outdoing the paid ones with very simple features. I don't care about bells and whistles if the basics aren't covered first. As for all the cool features you've built into this, I wouldn't know them, because the simple feature has limited use.

Nokia 9- Android Pie: So happy to find this app since ES went down the gurgler. I can find all my files, rename, organise & share through email, Bluetooth etc. As long as it stays true & bloat free, I'll be happy.

One of the very best fine managers - no spyware, adware, or fake cleanup routines. Just a capable and good looking file manager with media viewer - the way it should be!

Before the latest update this app(free version) was worth 5 stars. But after the update when I play downloaded songs on my phone in background, neither can I switch off the music until I close the app completely nor play another song while the previous song is running on the app. Both the songs get mixed up. Pl. fix the issue asap and get 5 stars.

Tried several other apps to access windows / SMB shares and had issues with them because of the new updates. Finally got them all working without any issues with FX. I got the PRO version to access network after trying out the free one. Quite easy and their Privacy policy is quite straight. The free version gives you 7 days on full features. Try it

Very complete app with tons of options and features, and all this without annoying ads. Definitely the best file manager for Android.

This app is dangerous for moving files from internal storage to microsd. It has destroyed 4 microsd of mine. I have used this app years before till now. I've concluded this after my last microsd's been destroyed. I think deleting or copying in microsd also harmfull and dangerous

Perfect app. Needs a bit of learning since UI is different from file/command explorer. I use it with root & extensions (paid) and it's great for networking.

Edit: removed one star, as the late July 2019 update ruined the beautiful icons for me! Original review: FX File Explorer allows more flexibility in choosing themes and styles, and letting me hide unwanted files from view, is a big plus because my installed apps often clutter my main folder with unwanted files that i dont want seeing there.

this app is great. But the only problem i have is when i search some folder or file in a specific loction it start scanning the whole device even tho i have select a specific folder..

Best Explorer on play store. Simple and does everything a file manager supposed to do without any BS. Also dark theming available which is right up my street as far as looks go. Fantastic work Dev 👍🏽

I have found this to be an excellent file manager. However, in the latest update 8010, on the home screen, if you swipe down from the top to get the 'split screen' & 'flip to a new window' options, selecting split screen crashes the program. This is on the Tesco Hudl2.

When you take into account the fact that it can't open encrypted archives, and many of the paid features are free in some other apps, it's kind of meh. Where it stands out is the split screen and space usage analysis for each directory and file, aside from not having any super annoying ads.

Using for over a year! One of the greatest, feature packed, no ads file explorer on playstore. 3 of my friends started using this too.

The app was pretty good, clean & cool UI. But it would be best if you add a little effects/smoothness & features in Image Viewer & Music Player so that we don't have to switch to other external app.

A nice clean and easy to use UI...Great network support including SMB,FTP and a really smart PC/Browser tool for accessing your device, but best of all, works superb on android TV type boxes...with excellent support for navigating with a keypad/keyboard...bought the the pro version after only few days of testing. Excellent work guys.

Android system dialogue is empty. Cannot select root directory of SD Card to grant write access. Develop this!

Simply one of the best file explorer that I've tried so far. Bought the plus after trial. Keep up the good work. Thanks

In the save storage space it includes obb files as well i deleted pubg file thinking it was something i downloaded then i came to know it deleted the original file.. Not at all satisfactory considering it should only show large files of user created

Since my last review, this was worth reWriting as there was some activity for responses. But the app itself deserves a 5+. If you install this and learn it (not hard!), you will not need to be looking for another solution. Well done.

Overall one of best and feature rich file managers. However obe very important feature is missing, properties of multiple folders selected. A very basic feature missing. Pls add asap. Then 5 star app.

Great. I love the honest and old school way of doing business. You get good app, pay for it and have the whole experience. No scam, no ads.

Wonderful app, but i have a suggestion: Remember last folder opened before, and open at that directory, this setting will be amazing.

I really like it, it works flawlessly so far on all 4 of my android devices the oldest running android 4.2. I'm a linux user, so I really appretiate SSH access, as well as built in google drive, and dropbox, text editor, photo viewer, etc, so I bought it right away. :)

Great UI, no adds or bloat. Just does what it says on the box, and does it well.

loved this app enough to buy it. I've always used the same Gmail account and factory reset and it made me buy it all over again

I paid for pro but, when I play a video off of a hard drive connected to the usb port on my Asus router, it produces an error when I fast forward or rewind on the vlc app.

Cloud storage is not adding after signing into Google or Microsoft. Please fix.

I've used it for a few years now and I just love it so much. It connects to everything in my home, allowing me to keep my phone emptied and filled the way I want. I'm not even at the Play store for another reason, this is kudos to help keep this thing alive. I really rely on it.

Streaming video files from SMB1 to MX player doesn't work. This however works in Solid Explorer. Otherwise would be 5-star experience.

Old version was allowing to transfer files from internal storage to SD Card but new version is showing error message that access denied. Please update

Cannot download it to my Tablet. Tried for 3 days and have to give up. Installed and upgraded on my phone, but Google just hangs during the download.

This app just deleted nearly all of my important files off of an external SSD when I tried to cut a file and move it to internal storage.

It's ok but I do not like look and the theme options are terrible and very limited. I'll probably use the competitors more.

ERROR ** Though I am using PRO version **...... It is not giving the option to enter the password to open my password protected .7z file and showing error. Pls fix this.

Excellent in all respects!!! The only thing I would add is Yandex.DISK cloud service.

I liked this app and i purchased as well but now i got to know that i am not able to access network drives over VPN network where as other file manager does support es file manager and root manager can access over VPN without any problem. Hope next update will bring this.

Brilliant file explorer, works well on all my devices including AndroidTV. A worthy replacement for ES.

Been my go-to for a long time, but the latest update changes a lot of cosmetics that didn't need changing and breaks the search function. Change for the sake of change sucks.

After experiencing so much file explorer I must say that this is the best file explorer and it is ad free.

Best android file manager bar none. Beautiful clean interface, super fast! Pay the modest upgrade fee, the network file browsing is fabulously good (again super fast). Thanks for creating a superb app.

You have to pay to get cloud access. The feature is available in other free file managers

The best file management app I've used. The UI is clean, easy to use and aesthetically pleasing. And I like the cloud integration. I can easily move a file from DropBox to Google Drive for example.

Please add an option to show how many items a subdirectory contains. This is very helpful when searching many directories for a file, as I won't try the empty ones. Thank you.

love the new update, its more response, and better looking. I just want one feature that is missing, the ability to click and drag to select many files at the same time, like the oneplus gallery has.

Great and aesthetic file explorer. Requires batch file rename provision.

One of the best file explorers I've ever used. The recent update however, have made the rating short of a star. I'm unable to sort my file based on the file extension anymore

most smoothest file explorer.. no glitch no freeze nothing at all.. just amazing functinality.. this new update changed the icon theme but i think earlier icon pack was much cool.. atleast please provide option to choose between earlier and new icon packs..

Good privacy + rich features + smooth operation = one of the best file managers I've used on Android so far. Recommended. Hope it can add support for ISO files (mounting) someday, so that I can watch some of my DVD collections with mx player.

Looking for ES replacement, thought might have found it. Dont like that root functionality is gained via seperate "enabler app" but it is what it is. Unfortunately, app is unaware of Magisk and cannot use for activities requiring root elevation.

I LOVE the app, but it doesn't have a notification with controls for playing music, and doesn't play the next sound files once finished.. only thing keeping me from buying it and 5 stars.

Cannot move more than one file at a time on Nvidia Shield TV (when most competing for managers have always been able to do this). Useless app.

Lots of features. Ad free. Worth upgrading. Good layout. Split screen. Good search. Sort options. Easy to use.

The best ever, i love the visuals, no ads, fast, just works, love you

Has overwriting issue while extracting zip. Everything else is perfect

👎👎👎🤬🤬😡😡😤😤 This app corrupted my Usb storage (OTG pendrive). Pendrive is empty now, all files gone. It can't properly do one thing it is supposed to do🤬 What happened: I was copying a video to Otg pendrive using FX explorer. Before finishing the operation, "no free space" erro message appeared and everything was wiped (32gb of data vanished)

I enjoy this very much, but i can't seem to find a way to "batch rename files and extensions", how do i do that?

Best file manager by far, no ads, customizable, cool interface. please allow editing after search (that will add a lot of functionality), and enable music to play in the background.

If only we can select multiple files and rename them one by one, one after one Or give us the option to give them the same name or change the name of files one by one.

Won't allow viewing of files in Samsung/Brave/Chrome browser SD card download location which CX File Explorer does. No ability to copy path or make new shortcuts to folders, icon options don't stick, nor special folders. Needs work badly.

The best file explorer I could find to move and transfer files. Great UI and ease of access. Went beyond my expectations!

The default new UI hurts my eyes. Makes it difficult to use. At least there are settings that minimize the odd effect these changes have.

I have been using this for many years. I have not found anything better, although there could be improvements.

After using many file explorers on Android I stick with FX. It looks great it is fast and only one with word "privacy" in app description. Keep up the good work.

Fixed basic file mgmt failures via enabling sd card write access. Restored 4-star rating.

More straightforward to use then the others that are becoming so complicated to figure out how to do the simplest basic task.

Good app,UI is very good, but its irritating to tick confirmation box each time u wanna delete somestuff

This is my go-to app for browsing the file system on my phone. I've used this app across different phones and it's always worked great.

Caution: that root option will allow anyone or anything in. Its been hell. I'm now on phone 3 and the only app i downloaded was fx.

good file manager, still getting used to the differences between es and this ;) seems to be a bit slower (maybe just me) to do things

LOVE IT! In my view, this is the best file manager. No ads, and the best experience. + has a root explorer which is a must have for me.
