FX File Explorer features a Material Design UI and new ways to transfer your files between devices and computers:

* SMBv2 support.
* New "FX Connect" transfers files from phone-to-phone with Wi-Fi Direct. Supports NFC to connect two phones by physically touching their backs together. (requires FX+)
* New "Web Access" enables transfer and management of files and media from your computer's web browser. You can drag-and-drop entire folders to your phone from your computer, or stream your phone's music playlists to your computer over Wi-Fi. (requires FX+)

FX is a file explorer built to make working with files and media on your phone or tablet as easy as it is on your computer:

* Productivity-oriented "Home Screen": Directly access your important folders, media, and cloud storage
* Multiple window support, with dual-view mode to see two windows at once
* "Usage View" mode shows the total size and content makeup of every folder, as you browse and manage files
* Support for most file archive formats

FX protects your privacy:

* No advertisements
* No tracking of user activity: FX does not ever "phone home"
* Built by NextApp, Inc., a US corporation founded in 2002; all proprietary code was developed in-house

The optional FX+ Add-On module enables more functionality:

FX includes a number of built-in editingviewing applets:

* Text Editor (with undoredo history, cutpaste, search, and pinch-to-zoom)
* Binary (Hex) Viewer
* Image Viewer
* Media Player and pop-up Audio Player
* Zip, Tar, GZip, Bzip2, 7zip archive creators and extractors
* RAR file extractor
* Shell Script Executor

Android 8 9 Location Permission Notice

* NOTE: Android 8.0+ unfortunately required us to add the "approximate location" permission, as it's now required for apps that support Wi-Fi direct (because Wi-Fi direct leaks this information). FX does not ever actually query your location, and this permission will only ever be asked for on Android 8.0 and later when using FX Connect. This requirement previously applied only to Android 9.0, but because FX now specifies full support for the latest Android API, Android 8.0 also requires this permission.

App ChangeLog

  • Major update. Major changes to UI aesthetic, icons, and animations throughout the app. Improved performance. Fast-scrolling support throughout the app. Significant updates to "recents", sort-by-kind, image/video/app sections. Reduced app size by 25% via optimizations and vector graphics.
  • 8.0.1: Minor fixes, mixed rectangle/round icon theme option.

requires following permissions on your android device.

precise location (GPS and network-based)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.

view network connections
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.

view Wi-Fi connections
Allows the app to view information about Wi-Fi networking, such as whether Wi-Fi is enabled and name of connected Wi-Fi devices.

pair with Bluetooth devices
Allows the app to view the configuration of the Bluetooth on the phone, and to make and accept connections with paired devices.

access Bluetooth settings
Allows the app to configure the local Bluetooth phone, and to discover and pair with remote devices.

change network connectivity

allow Wi-Fi Multicast reception
Allows the app to receive packets sent to all devices on a Wi-Fi network using multicast addresses, not just your phone. It uses more power than the non-multicast mode.

connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi
Allows the app to connect to and disconnect from Wi-Fi access points and to make changes to device configuration for Wi-Fi networks.

Allows access to the list of accounts in the Accounts Service.

full network access
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.

control Near Field Communication
Allows the app to communicate with Near Field Communication (NFC) tags, cards, and readers.

set wallpaper
Allows the app to set the system wallpaper.

prevent phone from sleeping
Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep.

Allows the app to write to the SD card.

modify system settings
Allows the app to modify the system's settings data. Malicious apps may corrupt your system's configuration.

Oct 2020 App increasingly errors copying files June 2020 Reducing stars. For a long time this app refuses to open media files with other apps. Text editor needs work. No support for OTG ugh. Copy files is slow. It's no longer my must have. -----End---- This has been my go to explorer for a donkey's age. When I used to root different roms, even now first app to re/install. Few things are a bit funky, perhaps getting dated, but its a real winner. I'd had it so many years, I'd be lost without it.

  2. Karkovb-avatar

apk One feature that I love the most here is the Archive Viewer, I can see the thumbnails on my .zip archived photos and browse between them without extracting them first! while other apps aren't showing any thumbnail for archived pictures. Next, the UI is beautiful and theme option is a really nice touch although I wish there's more colour palette to choose. For years, I've tried this app along with other file managing apps but I kept coming back to this one.

Absolutely amazing! Hands down, the best File Manager on Android. Great looking interface, without lacking in any functionality you would want from a File Manger. Works with Android TV as well, making it easy to transfer and manage files on my Nvidia Shield with it's great interface. And best of all, it's completely free, with no ads! If you get as much out of this app as I have, consider supporting the developers. 5 Stars, would recommend to everyone.

i really enjoy this file browser, but it's lacking in some areas. you can't move files around, you can only copy and paste them. moving files is kinda a basic thing when comes to a file browser. this file browser can open .zip files in the app without extracting them, but can't do the same with .rar file formats. other then that i like the app.

Fantastic in every regard. One of the best apps in the Play Store. Intuitive and does everything you'd want, especially with the Plus add-on. Supports SMB very well. Let's you learn about the structure of the various Android file systems and where things are stored. Buy the Plus add-on to support the developer!

  6. ABDUL WAJID-avatar

Best for giving high quality options for android systems, you basically gonna have full control over your phone. No need of separate photo, video, audio players. But editing thing for photo, video, audio needs to initiate for full experince and this will increase the app quality, and hope we get a option to search by path eg. "/storage/emulatedstorage0". Besh wishes from my side, thank you.

  7. Teja-avatar

Wow! This is so good! I came to the app store right after 2 mind of using the app. It's just professional grade. One thing you can improve its the images slider when sliding different resolution images. The animations are not that natural.

I have been using and paying for the app for few years now. Recently and while using my nvidia shield pro 2019, I cannot find anyway to stream a video file with VLC player. I only can download it and play it from the device. Can you please let me know how I can stream video with VLC again?

  9. jameslionbreath-avatar

Not bad but could use improvements 1. A option to set default screen (aka i just want to see main storage when launch app) 2. Ftp could use a better browse cause the router storage never appeared.... 3. A way to create a hide list with password protection 4. Maybe a way to encript files? 5. A way for it to remove junk files 6. Maybe swipe gestures to change open windows and set default locations that will allways be open I guess try looking at es file explorer for reference

  10. Foxite-avatar

A very useful file manager, with various file viewers/editors built in, and optional rooting support. I have used it for years and only recently found one missing feature - when choosing MULTIPLE files from another app (when said app has sent a chooser intent with EXTRA_ALLOW_MULTIPLE set to true), FX does not allow you to select multiple files. Unfortunately, the only file chooser I'm aware of that does support this, is Android's stock file chooser. For various reasons I can't use the stock chooser - please, add support for this.

  11. Shagrath Blacksixx-avatar

this is the best manager ive ever used hands down. But if i may suggest a feature request it would be the function to batch rename files. It really needs this. (Edit) after some research with the app it will not move files at all on the system memory. If i CUT a file and try to paste it somewhere else like DOWNLOADS it says failed access denied...I gave it full permissions.

No recycle bin. If you delete by accident - it's gone forever. That's a deal breaker for an otherwise very good app. All the best file managers have recycle bins. Have been searching for a good ES replacement, but lack of this feature makes this a loser, runner-up. Hasn't been updated in a year. Looks abandoned. So won't hold my breath hoping for changes.

Very good file manager! Still can't figure out how to change preview icon sizes... Would love to pin windows to the left menu and it seems rather wide taking up valuable screen space for browsing. Nice to have security protection on passwords, but having to authenticate every 1/2hr? Would be good option disable that if you have security on devices.

I have tried many file explorers and this is the only one I found which doesn't have what I don't need. Simple interface, not highly complex settings and stuff. Perfect for my needs. The UI needs some polish though. For example some text and menu items are not aligned properly and stuff like that. Anyways a great file manager.!

PAID User! This may be outdated, but due to the mess that is Android 10 and photo handling, this is the only app that has let me see what the heck is going on. I am not an advanced enough user to moan about what this cannot do. I find it helpful for locating and managing downloads.

  16. elitemap-avatar

Really great browser, top 3 browser with root and privacy in store, however I really hope devs add 1 thing is enable set default open location when opening the app. Set Main storage as default location, thank you guys for amazing browser keep focus and do your thing!

Really great app.. The split screen functionality is really useful for moving files.. No ads is great too! What feature I would like most is to show combined filesize when multiple files are selected.. Please add this feature if possible.

Im shocked.. i was using file manager of xiaomi for local ftp and it's very slow.. but when I tried this app 4gb transfer only took few minutes even my phone is locked.. it's paid though it has a trial of 7 days the pro version is cheap so I will definitely get that..

  19. Sumit Satwadhar-avatar

The best file manager. Only one issue: if you transfer files to OTG Drive and if OTG doesn't have enough space, it deletes all the data on the drive. The app development is dead I think. Coz, no update since 1 year and no reply from the developer when I contacted them over email.

  20. Sam S-avatar

Thank you for helping me search for the truth. Saw your update on xda btw. Just.. thank u. You have the only explorer app that does things and asks permission to do things correctly. The amount of detail and hardwork you put in to this, is more useful than any hidden Google API, service or feature they've stuffed into my phone.. (not including the ones I've yet to find/access)

  21. Rutvij Kimmatkar-avatar

A perfect replacement for es file explorer. It has many options and better ui and animations. Plus the privacy you're getting (not really sure about it btw). Overall a really good app even for someone who has a habit of digging in the root directories of android (yes it has root support)

Had this app for over a year and used it daily to access files etc. However I went to use the FX connect facility to transfer a file from an android phone to my shield and it doesn't work, I've spent hours playing with it and won't work, bloody useless!

  23. Gabriel Isla-avatar

The only reason I didn't buy yet it it's because is missing few options like 1.Put icons & video thumbnails inside a nice square frame. 3. Make a quicker way to copy and paste bc is not likable, and add all icons 4.Open a new tab is not friendly at all and makes me forget that option actually exists. 5.Copying fles speed is horrible 6.The theme and design for the app is not good, try to do like Astro, or an explorer more solid and clean 7.Give file size info behind folders.

  24. Apha Ann-avatar

    Apha Ann

This FX app is Dangerous, 👎 it erased my SD card, all data gone after trying to access SD. It corrupted the card when trying to copy a folder from internal to external storage. New version introduced bug 🐛 Error "Access was denied" basically it can't write to the SD card anymore 👎 external storage permission is granted but it no longer works

Quite decent and full featured file manager, with actual multiple tabs/open folders, root access, builtin zip archive support for compression and unpacking. Only downside for me are the visuals. If it could better match Android native material/ design it would be great. Missing features: Share files by FTP and easy Select All Files functionality through the browser WebDav web interface

#1 File Explorer of 2020 and everytime. I have use too many file manager and explorer in my life........but...but...but after ban ex file explorer i search on play store for file explorer and there are too many file explorer. This is an Excellent File Manager with some useful features... I found it to be:: - AD FREE... Intuitive... Clean & Organized... ** CLEAR Privacy policy **... Has a DUPLICATE finder... Has a great TEXT EDITOR... Easy to use and straight forward... Has System status / FX Activity summary screen... Can open MULTIPLE Windows OR SPLIT VIEW... Has Storage usage graphical snapshot... - Optional Network and Cloud support Pay Add-On feature (Worth it)... There is a Real developer behind the program who knows what he is doing....... This File Manager comes through with flying colors where many others fail.

So far this app has been doing what it's supposed to do that I paid for all the premium features. However, I am a bit disappointed in the web sharing feature that I can't sort the files when viewed in the browser according to date. Plus this app hasn't seen an update for a year

  29. Niels Guericke-avatar

    Niels Guericke

The only issues keeping me from giving it a perfect five is the lack of a bulk rename option, and the fact that you only have the option to overwrite when you move a file to a folder that has a file of the same name. The latter is particularly annoying.

  30. Shrirang Patil-avatar

    Shrirang Patil

Why does it install the Fx TextEdit without the users' knowledge despite the fact that in no way it helps either the user as well as the smooth functioning of FX file explorer app. Allow the users to remove this junk and I will give it a 5 stars. Otherwise under the disguise of privacy, the app may be collecting the users' private data without the users' knowledge and proving to be no different than some Chinese apps on the Play Store which exists only to peek into the users' data.

  31. John Buckham-avatar

Support vanished? Still think it's a good app, but FX Connect not working between Samsung tablet and Motorola phone. Emailed support - no response after month of waiting. Interestingly, the app not updated for over year - perhaps company no longer operational?

  32. Kasey Smith-avatar

    Kasey Smith

Awesome awesome awesome! I left ES for a number of reasons, and this is even better! The only real complaint I have is not having an FTP server built in, but the web server works well enough. It's probably more accessible for less techie users, too. The file management is great and intuitive. Can be a little tedious to select tons of files, but that's not unique to FX, at all. So far the best file manager on Android, and I've tried them all. The plus addon is worth it, too!

I would have been more inclined to use this app if the icon looked more polished. It has too much detail. A simple folder, etc would be enough. I don't know. Anyway, only had it for a day and I already love it. It has so much functionality and doesn't appear to have bugs or anything negative about it. Can connect to ftp Google cloud and has root access. Does everything was file explorer did and then some. Also is privately owned and allegedly pro-privacy orientated. A++ good design. Love it!

Almost perfect. Certainly one of the better ones, I tried a few and bought the full version of this. No ads. Easy to use and navigate, I like the split screen feature. Reliably copies large files and directories off my network without dropping. I say almost perfect because it's lacking NFS support which I would like, but CIFS and ftp work flawlessly.

Definitely one of the better functioning and looking file manager. Been using it for years and is reliable for everything I've needed it for. Started with the free version and moved on to the full and haven't regretted it since. Only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the time since it's been updated. Been a good while since the last. Hopefully it'll continue to be updated and supported cause there's nothing much that compairs.

Excellent app. I find this app well designed, from its "usage" view, to the split screen implementation, cloud storage connection with adding a device wide account. Also, the webaccess feature is amazing to use.

  43. Delta Zero-avatar

The BEST file explorer for android! This app will give your android system a full file explorer as if you were using a Windows or Mac computer. You can access your internal storage and SD card and cut, copy and paste files. You can even change theme colours. I am always using the network side of this app to access my internal network. I've used it with Windows, Mac and Linux computers, plus with WD My Cloud home and pro. If you need a proper file explorer on your android system, this is it.

Fx File Explorer is beautifully conceived and presented, but unfortunately I had very bad experience. I bought it through in app purchase, but could see no clear signs that the app was upgraded at all. I asked for refund, so that I can re-purchase "officially" from Playstore. Google refused to refund. Worst of all, I wrote 3-4 mails to the developer asking for clarification and also for support for enabling write access to SD card. No reply so far.

Bumping it down to 3 stars because after more than a year of using this app, there's still an annoying lack of a certain capability. When you mass copy (or mass cut) and mass paste, and 1 or 2 of the files you're pasting has the same name as the target location, your only options are "overwrite/merge" the file in question, or cancel the entire operation. PLEASE GIVE THE OPTION TO RE-NAME THE COPIED FILE. OR SKIP THE FILE. It is extremely annoying.

This app may be better than Solid Explorer. It allows you to distinguish disk space usage in pie chart. For rooted devices, you can turn on the root access feature for free. Keep improving this app. This is your #1 file manager. Also, the developer isn't working on this app now. One thing: In some devices, if you go to Root (System) and go to proc, scroll down, and your system will restart.

Hi Devs, working brilliantly on Pixel 3 android 10. Can sftp and smb2 into multiple network machines, haven't tested over webz yet. Purchased the upgrade to keep these features. Small request, under the special folders, any chance to have a feature to "hide" certain folders so others using the app don't see the thumbnails as a result? Ta, :)

Amazing App 👍i love it. One problem that's really annoying me, That is when you move any type of data between Main Storage (internal storage) And Media Storage (SDHC) Or to Cloud storage it doesn't keep the Original Time Stamp which very important for images and videos because you don't want all your digital data on current date and time, it's important to us it keeps in original time stamp. You can turn of the update file changes infx, but it doesn't work for cut & move & upload to the cloud.

Not impressed with landscape splitview UI. Barely any room to work on either screen. Split view has to be set each time. 'Remember last settings' needed. App requires more clicks to get to where you need to go as there's no default opening window that could be customized. Since I purchased I will wait for update though for now I use another explorer.

Pretty good for day-to-day file management - flexible, customisable, useful extra features available for purchase. Unfortunately, cannot get it it to recall last view and have to explicitly set display to 'usage' each time, which is mildly irksome. Doesn't seem to offer option of being a server (ftp, https, etc.), so have to use another file manager for that, but purchasable add-ons make it a flexible client. Day-to-day my go-to manager unless I need to do seriously heavy lifting via ftp/etc.

I was hoping to use the fx web access between my pc and my phone but i couldn't with wifi hotspot from my phone, which was one of the loved features of es back in the day. pls bring that feature!! Charge twice for the app on Android and Android TV. Contacted developer but still no response. Edit: so I bought this to transfer files between my phone and Nvidia Shield TV. When I am at a remote location and connect to my home via my own vpn server, fx can access my home lan devices if I put in the device ip. However if i use fx to scan the local lan to find a device using dhcp, fx does not scan the proper lan subnet. It scans the subnet of my network carrier, not the home lan. Thus I cannot locate dhcp devices and connect to them. Is there a fix?

So far for first impression, I am blown away with how polished this is compared to an old unbloated version of es file explorer I was using, why did I switch when that was doing it's job? I had no clue it had a fatal flaw, and my app version was from 2018...and the exploit was found in the newer 2019 version. Will update later.

Best way to handle, organize & display photos, photo albums, videos, documents & their folders ... that I've ever seen or used. I even use it to organize my music (artists, albums & songs). With the Pro version, you can cut, copy & paste. And move around your devices using products like Dropbox. Fabulous!

Love this app. So much better than the built-in Android one. More flexible and way more options. Just wondering if there's a way to clear the "recent" folder? Not delete the actual files, just remove the history. Or better still, disable it from keeping a history of recent files opened etc. Cheers. :)

Everytime we upgrade our phones they're invariably capable of holding larger Micro SD cards, which in turn equates to more videos, photos and music. If you want to easily migrate folders from a phone's memory to its Micro SD card this is the app that makes it easy.

One of the best file explorers for Android and I believe it's the most powerful file explorer, it even contains it's own BusyBox binaries. It has advanced features and it has a nice UI. Best thing is, it doesn't contain ads. So it's clean!

Text editor loses file contents once you switch to another app. If you have one text file opened, switch to Chrome return to FX you get a blank file (new file). Also, more annoyingly, the file open dialog lacks a "recently opened" option to return to a text file you were editing minutes ago.

Perfect. Quickly switched from another 'popular' explorer. No ads. Great design and usability. Can browse the /system folder which is amazing. Love it. Dear developers, please do not bloat it with unnecessary functions. Keep it simple like it already is. No need for cleaners and file analysis tools. In my opinion, the text reader and built-in media player is also not needed. That should be left for third party apps. But I'm not complaining. It is good utility nonetheless.

I've used this app frequently over the last few months and feel able to honestly comment: 1. UI is aesthetically gorgeous. 2. The app is totally user-friendly, without the need for intrusive 'user tips/hints'. 3. Navigation to all features of the software is straight-forward and not at all confusing. 4. It allows the user to explore the Android system to whatever depth/access-level allowable. 5. Extremely stable. 6. I use the free version, (it has some functions limited, but tbh I dont really need these anyway), and find It has all, (if not more), the functions one would expect of a good quality file manager. To sum up: If you are in need of a file manager, be sure to try this one out - you won't be disappointed :-)!

I like this app a lot, enough that I paid for the Pro version. But I am only giving it 3 stars because I am taking off 1 star for each of its 2 faults. First, it won't open azw3 files in FBReader Pro, even though the latter DOES support the new system (and Google's own Files app does). And secondly it misbehaves when I slot in a USB flash drive. Plus the app developer never replied when I emailed about both issues, which shows a poor attitude to customers - shame given that it is mostly so good.

Sadly, I've uninstalled it. It refuses to write to SD card or network despite my having granted access. Had no response from developers to my query about this. Pity - as it looked like an app well worth paying for ... At a second attempt I got it to access a network share, but any alterations to a text file on a network share cannot be saved. If that can be overcome perhaps I'd buy it, otherwise I shall have to make the best of it as it is. The free CS can save to net !

I use this app as my main file manager. I like it so far, but i have these issues that should be taken care of: - over smb (not sure for local files) after editing and saving a file that is in Windows EOL format (CR+LF) the file will be automatically converted to Unix EOL format (CR only), this is quite annoying - text editor does not have the possibility to enable line numbers like the text viewer (why?!) - network credentials are not remembered during a session.

Out of the FE I've used, I've found this to be the best and have used it w/o any problems for the past year. File transfer through NFC, SMB and OTG have all been hassel free. Fairly feature rich overall. & @ an affordable price for the paid ver. esp fond of the priv policy. Just thought I'd add my review given the recent update. Clean functional interface. Works to copy files from FTP or SMB share in my house quite well. BONUS: I bought the pro upgrade on one phone to keep the network copy feature. When I swapped to a new phone and re-downloaded the app -- it's still PAID FOR and I got the Pro version with just a single payment. Very pleased with that; most apps with in-app upgrade only upgrade on a single handset and when you get a new handset you have to pay again. Very very very very pleased with this app. Will recommend it to everyone.

This is by far the best file manager I've had the pleasure of working with. However, the latest update has made the UI, quite frankly, ugly. Besides the cosmetic issues, for some reason the latest update also replaced the ability to sort by file extension with the ability to sort by file "type". While this IS a helpful feature, it's not quite granular enough (ex: animated gifs get lumped in with static images) and it shouldn't replace file extension sorting.

i do love this app, alot like the old es file explorer (which i dont know what happened to that). Although... i did the in-app purchase of the 2.99 where the media and network thing but when i go to the play store the fx license key thing still 2.99 as if i didnt even purchase anything. This is the best file browser I've ever use. It has a mature UI with loads of theme and customization. I've been using this for quit a while now. However, I will prefer if the dev could bring back the pop up menu when a file is long-press, this makes the app easy to use with one hand. Also the text editor should be updated to include "search and replace" function!

While the overall performance of this app is very good. I found it useful because it can show me all files according to their extension except documents, which is also my biggest disappointment about this app. My documents folder is always empty, so I have to go every time to the main storage and other sub folders to find the document file I needed. I hope there will be a update to fix this or else I have to buy again another app to do that.

Good for Android, so-so for Chrome OS. It does everything I need it to do, file access, Windows network shares, and Google drive access on Android. When I initially used it in Chrome OS, it did the same, as such I opted for the upgrade to make it my daily driver. A few days ago, it couldn't find my Windows shares, giving me a network error. I had to find another solution for Chrome OS, but still recommend it for Android proper.

The main app is great, unfortunately the thing I need the most often is the txt editor, & there are 2 things it really needs: 1) Whenever the txt app gets minimized or backgrounded & it deletes everything typed when this happens- every time, but it still "claims" that it saved when it obviously didnt. U should B able to disable it creating a new document so it doesnt ruin the work U did. Also it doesnt autosave or autoload the last file opened/saved.

Hey not bad not bad at all. I think there could be some easier methods of copying and pasting etc but its good. Also when I make a new document in a folder it seems to create an outdated word document, so word flips out and wants me to save a new copy blah blah blah, kinda redundant. But overall I am impressed by this file manager. Just setup nice shortcuts and use the split screen mode and you're winning!

This is a Very good file explorer / file manager . But the split window feature isn't enough. I need multiple windows, something like ES file explorer's multiple windows, where you can swipe left and right to go to desired folders, this is extremely powerful feature for fast & fluid file exploring and file management. That's the biggest thing that has made me hold on to it, I want to move away from ES, but keep coming back to it (remove reinstall it few times since that malware tragedy) .

Many thanks to you for your application FX File Explorer! I believe it’s really outrageous. I use it for last 2 weeks and enjoy it a lot. The first feature, which led me to your explorer – was a range select. I mean, where a user needs to click only the first and the last file in order to select a big range of files; instead of clicking every file in between. I've been using this app for over a year and am totally satisfied with the free version. It has all the features I need without being overly complicated. I use the root access feature a lot, it's a lot easier than typing long random paths into adb push/pull when trying to hack games. This is one of the few play store apps that I would trust to have root on my phone. No ads, no trackers, nothing that could give some Chinese tech firm more backdoors into my phone.

The file explorer is OK, but the text editor is infuriating to the point that I wish I could have all the wasted time of my life using it back again. The most egregious problem is that switching context away from the application loses all changes made since the last change. Given that switching context in Android can happen in many involuntary situations, that's just an absolute fail on the part of any tool like this.

I paid for this years back. One of the reasons I cannot use the app, is that sharing text from the browser to FX gives an error, and what's really diappointing, is that a free app CX File Explorer does. ES File Explorer fails just like FX. The free ones are outdoing the paid ones with very simple features. I don't care about bells and whistles if the basics aren't covered first. As for all the cool features you've built into this, I wouldn't know them, because the simple feature has limited use.

After es was taken off the play store, my first reaction was to get it from my titanium backup. In the meantime I started looking elsewhere. When my phone became ridiculously unresponsive, even on an 8 core pixel2, I tracked down the pig to the es app locker. So I've dumped es and switched to fx. I am seriously glad I did. For smb, it is seriously faster than es. The user interface is also a big improvement.

I don't see where is the MAJOR change they talk about in the changelog. Except for the new ugly icon set and not-so-smooth scrolling effect and animations, all the rest is pretty much the same... A great and solid file explorer though, but I'll definitely NEVER understand why developpers universally feel the urge to change things for the worse, especially when there's nothing wrong to change in the first place...

App doesn`t allow me to save in network folders (SMB) when i use share function in any app and choose fx file explorer as destination. It only gives me option to save in local filesystem. Bad.
