Edit: this issue seems fixed, thanks! :) * * * * * Good overall but has one big problem. When an email is deleted, and when you go to "Trash", it shows deleted emails for a brief 0.5 second. If you can be quick and select them, then you can move them to inbox or permanently delete them etc... but sometimes you cant click that fast and it shows up as empty. This has been an issue since forever. Will you ever fix it?

apk Used to be just THE best! However a few days ago, they did an update that made the text used in the app very tiny, but more spaced out. It was perfect. It now hurts my eyes trying to read my emails, even with my glasses on. Why? Why did you do that, when you don't offer text size adjustment? Thank God l have Tutanota installed. Can use it in the mean time. Support says they've taken note of the complaint, but who knows how long it will take, if paid attention to. IT WAS SO NICE!! ∆ 5* when fixed

protonmail secure email Hi there, I have been using your app since last few months. Till few days ago it was working fine. But now it just doesn't work at all. It started with me not able to see any new mails. I upgraded the app, internet is working fine, all other apps are working, this app is not been blocked by any app/setting. I thought i'll try logging out and login again. Now i'm logged out but can't login back. I can access my mails if i login through a web brouser, but can't login through this app. Please help

protonmail receive encrypted email Fast, no ads, privacy is peace of mind, good and prompt communication with Proton support. My best experience with email and VPN. I started for free and upgraded to paid service as it fulfills my needs for mobile and on the computer. Will add the calendar soon and waiting for more. I trust Proton.

  5. ukr Itsjustme-avatar

protonmail is free encrypted email The app used to remember my username and password on my smart phone. Last week, it started asking me for the same every time I opened the app. I tried several things like cleaning the cache. However, the problem persisted. Eventually, I deinstalled the app and downloaded and installed the latest version again. Now it doesn't open at all. It is useless for me now as it cut me off from an important line of communication.

protonmail send encrypted email There is a big bug that needs to be fixed, voting 1 so developers will see this ASAP. On Android after you start writing an email without sending it and then switch to other apps, if Android kills ProtonMail and you go back it will not be saved into Drafts and you will lose everything written. ProtonMail should save everything written every time you add a single character! Not every X time!!

  7. Domenic Padula-avatar

email encryption protonmail 6 months after developer stated features are coming in near future, latest update has not included those changes. Needs a dark theme. Very bright to use at night Need to support Android 10 biometrics, not Android 9. Android 10 API removed the confirmation button needed for face unlock. Will upgrade review when these basic features are added.

  8. David Gardell-avatar

Love PM but when I went to open it and an update was required, I could not close the app no matter what I did the app would show up on top of anything, very annoying!!

  9. Alan Collins-avatar

The best mail app I've ever used. Keeps my information private and it's easy to use. Been using it for ast two years now with no major malfunctions.

  10. N D-avatar

Not sure why it's no longer possible to insert a photo into an email. Only possible to send as an attachment, not in the actual body of the email.

  11. SEO Services-avatar

App worked great until now. When I open an email it forces Chrome app to load and says ca't display content. Why is your app talking to Chrome app?? Not good.

  12. Cash N Grab-avatar

Keep crushing. Don't let me copy email address. Recently I had start receiving 1000's of emails. They told me it's a mail bomb. Whole mailbox and messages messed up and they told me to upgrade to Pro to get more help and features and unlimited report phishing. Looting people in disguise of privacy.

  13. Mohammad Mozib-avatar

Need a "Select all" option when selecting mails. Gets very tedious individually selecting each mail for any action.

  14. Jica Raca-avatar

Excellent... pity that has limited space in the free version. And too expensive for a secure mail service...

  15. John Dixon-avatar

It's a great app so far, but would like ability for larger text. Thanks!

Reliable, secure email, encrypted by default, based in Switzerland and subject to their privacy laws. Also offers secure ProtonVPN, and has free and paid versions of each; I am glad I can pay for mine, so that they can continue providing free accounts for those who need them, and so that I get faster support when I need it. Highly recommended.

Well it's now March 2020 and it's still the ugliest email application I've ever seen in my life. The choice of colors the distinction between read and unread emails is just terrible. I complained about this in 2018 and nothing has changed so I deleted the review and created a brand new one with just two Stars with the hopes that someone over there protonmail is actually going to do something about is horrible email client. It's been years and you have done nothing to improve it.

  24. Phoenix Siria-avatar

Problem sorted, very good and will update soon.

  25. Mustafa Amer-avatar

Love the app and being a member of the ProtonMail community. My only problem with the app and mail in general is when you're searching for messages with attachments, ALL types of attachments are included, such as email signatures in jpg or png formats instead of documents. Would be really nice to be able to filter out those types of attachments from searches because it becomes quite frustrating to be able to find what you're looking for!

  26. Sly Johnson-avatar

No dark theme mode, no unread email category.. Still no dark theme although you had update recently ffs!! Uninstalling

  27. Cee Yi-avatar

This android app is more of a frustration than functional. The UI could be improved. My biggest gripe is getting signed out every so often. I have a premium account. In the android app, one can sign into a free account along with a premium account (ProtonMail touts this multiple account functionality for android). However, I'm getting signed out from one or the other account rather frequently (more often from the free account). Signing back in every time is a pain. What gives?

  28. L. M.-avatar

Failed to send very first email. I downloaded the app. I created my account. I tried to send a test email. The first time gave an error that just said failed to send. The second time i tried to send the email it just sat there at the 'sending' stage. Uninstalled. Hard pass.

  29. S Freeman-avatar

Protonmail is great for privacy, but the mobile app lacks basic functionality, such as creating/updating filters, moving messages in bulk to folders/applying labels (from search results). Color scheme is too washed-out looking. Notifications and reading of emai is fine though. Really could use some feature updates.

  30. bobby416420-avatar

Not too bad for free encrypted mail. My only issue is that I just tapped my drop-down to go into my app, as there's a numerical code that I need to know for my app. I really hope this can be resolved soon as it's easier to tap a notification than going online and putting in all info for login. If you can fix that soon, I'll change it to a five star!!! Thank you, - Bob

  31. Ben Dundon-avatar

The only email service I've ever warranted paying for.

  32. tracey conner-avatar

The app is fine. No bells and whistles, but it's email. I dig the idea of privacy and not selling/using my email content against me (I'm taking to you Google). My biggest ask is dark mode. My biggest issue is I can't seem to email my husband at his work .gov email address -- sent an email to support today. So I'm this close " to switching.

  33. Mohamad Samy-avatar

The only drawback in my opinion is that I can't use turn on the short domain name ( through the phone app and have to do it through the web page. I hope you fix this soon, this is the only issue holding me from upgrading to premium subscription.

  34. Dr Nikhil-avatar

Used to love this for simplicity and neat interface. But an important mail just got half sent, just the first 2 lines and rest of the mail just vanished in thin air. When the draft was saved and edited later...the edited part never went to the client. The previous half baked email which was saved as draft went. I think i wont be using this app henceforth. Clearly the app cannot handle when wifi or data fluctuations are anticipated in developing countries

  35. Sean Omight-avatar

Its really good. But... My biggest complaint is that I dont get notifications right away. Rather hours later. Its been like that ever since first use. Ive messed with the settings and they should be correct. I even tried to star messages I received in hopes that would aork. But nope. Its kind of annoying. Please fix. Otherwise great app.

  36. Thought Wave-avatar

Love proton mail...the free version is also great. Never a problem. Their security people are always on top of breaches. Sign up is Hassel free protecting personal privacy even with the free version. I can't afford the annual payments but have donated through prepaid cc a few $ here and there to support their continued efforts in maintaining and respect for personal privacy.

  37. A Google user-avatar

Great service, but poor application. Users have requested many simple features, like support of conversation threading, or the possibility to manage email aliases (not ProtonMail aliases), and none of them has been implemented. In general, all ProtonMail applications (on mobile or desktop, like the ProtonMail bridge) suffer from bugs and poor features. As an example, I recently discovered I don't see the same emails in my inbox if I use the web interface, or the mobile app. Very disappointing...

  38. Lady Godiva-avatar

So far so good with everything they've described. For the free option, the end-to-end encryption is on point. It's quite simple to use and beautifully designed for us to quickly get going. Well done devs! -I'll be checking out all of your applications and informing everyone I know to get hip to ya's. I'm a DJ ( #DJTeeNie216 ) and will be glad to mention you guys in my next LIVE broadcast on encryption. "Encryptionally Speaking ~ Explicit Extensions that Explicate Excellence".

  39. Kelly Hector-avatar

Worlds number one fact is it never misses a beat since 2016 I've used this app 80%percent of the time on phones that are not flash. I have 55 thousand messages in the inbox my phone memory its always close to full I've still plenty of protonmail room however. The back of my phone has no cover and the front is cracked. Protonmail does not miss a beat I sometimes wonder do people ever factory data reset there phone?. Before assuming thats protonmail issue do this 1st .

  40. Veniamin-avatar

I had a good opinion about ProtonMail, until I started using it more. While I attach a file the app forgets the mail's subject. It sometimes doubles the mail recipients (each address is added two times). Then it turns out the attached file actually isn't there. When switching apps it doesn't auto-save my writing so the other day it deleted an email that was 90 percent ready. Disappointing and frustrating.

  41. Chris James-avatar

Since the last update, everytime I open the app to check my emails, I have to sign-in again. Doesn't matter if I used the app 10 minutes or 10 hours ago. Not sure if this is by design or is a bug, but it needs fixing. Also, there really needs to be an "unread messages" sorting option.

  42. Michael Debenham-avatar

    Michael Debenham

Overall the app works well and does what I need without issue. The only drawback for me is the lack of tablet optimisation, really what I'd like is a split pane view in the inbox and for it to not force the tablet into portrait when I go into settings. Come to think of it this also applies for viewing on a large phone in landscape.

  43. Matt Adshead-avatar

Great app and service for encrypted email. Only thing I really miss from the GMail client is the ability to configure what action left and right swipe do in the list view. I'd like to set it to archive instead of delete on a right swipe for example.

  44. James Austein-avatar

I set up my account but it won't let me log in. It says invalid credentials

  45. Anonymous Hippopotamus-avatar

    Anonymous Hippopotamus

Could be 5 stars with a much needed improvement. I fully support the philosophy & efforts behind Proton & their other apps. I urge the app development team to include, in the soonest possible update, a function sorely lacking. Tediously, in the inbox, one can delete or process emails by tapping one at a time. What's missing: in the list that appears from searching by address etc. Is the ability to bulk select & delete or move to folder, a function I depend on in another email app I still use

  46. Aaron Koop-avatar

Fantastic service for free secure email. However the Android App needs an option to view related emails as conversations. The search function needs improvement. There are other small issues with the user interface that could be improved, but in my opinion these are a small price to pay for privacy.

  47. M F-avatar

Swiping gestures need to be lower in sensitivity. I've often tapped messages and had them deleted because my hand wasn't perfectly still. Also need to give option of this feature being disabled. Rich content seems to have trouble loading even if you enable this in settings. Other than that great app!

  48. Pallas Cat-avatar

Application has bugs with sending messages in some cases, seems like reason is unstable connection. Message just being stuck, unable to cancel sending, unable to open. Contents of the message is being lost. Everything else, design and user experience, is great, but this bug spoils all ideal picture. Look at it please.

  49. Mara N-avatar

Overall, I am happy about the privacy, but that's about it. There are so many flaws for an expensive product. Proton mail is 2-3x more costly than any private email out there (GoDaddy, Namecheap...). The most amateurish thing I haven't seen in any free or paid mobile and desktop client is lack of SYNCHING. You read your email on desktop and then you receive a notification about a new email on your mobile phone, despite the fact you already opened, read and sometimes replied to that email!

  50. Qu d'Av-avatar

Almost perfect. Would be perfect if it had emails grouped in conversations (just like in the web app) and if they synchronized (phone <> web app). Other than that, keep up the good work!

  51. Paul Norton-avatar

After just a few today's I feel that ProtonMail is so different, you feel as though you belong, and I cannot wait to get going. After having my email hacked and all my friends were involved, and the service provider didn't want to know. This is the future magic, thank you you have giving an old boy renewed faith. Paul

STILL Can Not read Any of my emails whatsoever. I can see the brief titles listed in my inbox, i can open them just fine also, but after opening every single time every single one always is showing a giant huge list of scrambled letters looking like this except 20 times longer. ldfLTwofzb+6MlKsqOald80xyivCzIr4t-----BEGIN PGP MESSAGE----- Version: ProtonMail wcBMA3GlhigBmFilAQgAgACAiUq6L5QExUpaPwkWaN2sSMjnhwYX3baj4MJE dyeo+ADJZqJJRrShiAccSS2Apz21K9OGXidAO75pFeeuWef+xoEnbSvi7amW muIgHt4c5nyXPd+qH1ytnqs9VWNkP125wERKN8qmhXCm85kKVDH7Ff8+MC8o ZC9slNszJOvtTHQU1S1s/WRq/jCA4kyG1bAFlaE3HMaOx+0UpJd4v6DJ+kwN /XelQNInWHdEvhFfRbfOEZjmnrsGnAvPBVdOO+71MhhRVw0HK/F3uHR7v3AZ JiQcEd5ef1M96d3IYIx+qrpNHRurm2SwdZwC7rRXOS7rGFDpftLCx3qqpyEgA== =Ixqk -----END PGP MESSAGE----- But having first and huge problem right now. Dear devs, pls fix old emails not displaying properly

  54. Xavier R. Lor-avatar

PIN lock screen will occaisionally stop registering key presses, essentially locking you out of the app. Restarting the app does not work. Will work again after an undetermined amount of time (hours). I cannot tell you how to replicate this. Very unreliable feature for me. Note 4; Android 6.0.1

  55. al cartwright-avatar

I've been logging in with a fingerprint on my phone. But now it won't send my emails. I recently tried to access the account on my pc. My passwords don't work, I can't contact anyone to discuss it and a password reset will delete all my mail (apparently). Great privacy but useless if I can't get help.

  56. pepelapiu2004-avatar

ProtonMail is a simplistic app with no bells and whistles. Privacy is their main concern, as should be. I'll be upgrading to the paid version as soon as Proton decides to accept Bitcoin.

Still not sending notif.. Can't use as main email and however you only get 500 free mb, if you want more you have to pay. According to the helpdesk, you should spend time trying to fix it yourself, under their guidance. TRY MAKING SOMETHING WITHOUT BUGS IF YOU WANT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. 1 star. Still not working properly, I receive notifications on my gmail. "We're sorry you feel that way". No, kids, it's not about "feeling that way" it's you the problem.

  58. Aidan Zingler-avatar

I love protonmail, and I got the app mostly to keep tabs on emails from those working with me on projects or events. I do miss the email threading that the desktop/browser version has. And I wish rich font was more accessible to use on mobile (easier and more effortless with desktop/browser version for sure).

  59. Carlos R-avatar

Messages are not being sent. They are just being saved to drafts folder. Also can't move sent messages to trash folder. Love this app, so please fix so I can rate a 5 in lieu of 4.

  60. Michael Nasca-avatar

This is the only email address that anyone should be using and even though its free the extras you get for having a paid account are really worth it I believe that they are so much better than other email providers who just steal your information to make a profit. Thanks to protonmail for protecting our safety and privacy. If you don't have atleast a free account you should definitely get one. Thanks

Secured, safe, and does what it's supposed to do. 4 stars because there's 1 feature that I think it's missing: "unread tab" where you can see all of your unread messages. I'm struggling where I can find those 2 unread messages on mobile but surely not on PC.

  62. Isaac Wallace-avatar

Trash. Service was great, but no idea why I was logged out of the app. And NO IDEA why I can't sign back in. It wont log me in, and it wont tell me why. (Incorrect password, invalid username, etc) it just straight up wont tell me why I'm not logging in. I'd click reset password but I dont even know if my password is what's incorrect. Just way too many technical issues to continue using.

  63. Rayol Yee Sing-avatar

Its really great service i recomend it to every one ive been using over a year now it great it is secure should have a dash boad to show how many device is connected to your email and remove unrecognised devices and block them and prevent account take over there should be a feature that notifiy you when a new device log on your email with device ip mac add and location and type of device make model network provider and so on thanks for great app. Keep up good work

  64. Hoshi San-avatar

Why in hell do I need to enable Chrome in order to use the app? I don't use chrome and now I'm looking for another email provider, right? If I liked chrome, I'd stick to gmail and wouldn't need your service. If it needs Chrome to work, then encryption is not trustful. Obvious details , isn't it?

  65. techied-avatar

After using ProtonMail Plus for well over a year I can confidently say they are by far the best mail provider if you care about privacy. There are only two things I wish would be changed in future versions. 1: I want to be able to delete messages individually from the notification if more than one comes in at a time. 2: if I read or delete an email from another device, the notification should update to reflect that. Otherwise, it's a really strong service I can recommend!

  66. Done Son-avatar

Absolute garbage. Wants me to give my phone number for confirmation which is weird I thought this service was anonymous but whatever. I put in my phone number to get the confirmation text. When I click continue it says invalid email. This is pure stupidity. Back to using Gmail.

Great service and app. Please fix notifications. There are multiple feedback post on your feedback forum about the horrible notification support. Notifications should at least be as good if not better than the other main stream email clients. Please fix it.

The auto log out option should be an option within the app ( that is we should be allowed not to have it automatically log out) . Especially for those of us who use very complicated passwords. It's kind of inconvenient to have to type it in especially when we're traveling (and about to miss a flight) or perhaps in a remote location where time is of the essence.

First off, I love proton mail. However, lately I've been having issues with the application not working at all for me. I'll click on it and it will immediately say "ProtonMail has stopped". It doesn't even let me in the app. I've tried restarting my phone, force stopping the app, trying to get rid of other apps. The only thing that has worked is uninstalling the app and reinstalling. However, the problem will pop back up within a day or so. Please help me try to understand what is going on!

I have used this email for while now, I have not received one spam mail at all. It works perfect I am very impressed how it works. I can only recommend to all who wants a very safe email service.

The mobile app does not sync with web version. I have the plus version. I spent a great of time organizing inbox on web version and the mobile version did not update.

I love this app, one thing I've noticed that has never been fixed is the fact that I sometimes have to clear the trash, spam, draft multiple times because upon refresh everything reappears. Another thing i suggest is, giving the option to delete multiple messages AFTER using search function. In that search screen i can only delete one at a time

Good overall, some bugs, some quirks, independent developer (not owned by Google). Labels and folders are different things - this is surprising. A draft is not automatically saved when I close mobile app! Save it without asking me. Reported several bugs to the tech team. Almost abandoned the app b/c I was not able to send emails reliably - but, there are few alternatives. We want reliability first (not losing data, always delivering to recipients), features second. Solid 3/5, would recommend.

Much better than Gmail. Unlike the official Gmail app which has had an issue of mail stuck in the outbox for weeks on end, this app actually works. I have no problems reading and sending emails which is all that I expect from an email app. The ONLY problem with ProtonMail app is that updates are mandatory and after an update stored username and password is wiped. Which is especially problematic for an encrypted email without recovery options.

I updated my rating due to the response and actions taken on this excellent product. I love Protonmail and absolutely recommend it to everyone. This temporary bug will be fixed I am certain. Doesn't happen so far since reinstall. Actually the same thing happened to me. I got the same error loop that wouldnt go away. Thought I had a virus. I had to uninstall and use a browser to log in. Developers: Great product but need to fix this temporary issue. Other people are experiencing this too. Bill

I've been a ProtonMail subscriber for about 2 years now. The app & service as a whole have come so far, it feels modern and sleek - very rare for a privacy-minded service. The built in encryption is super easy to use, even if you know little or nothing about encryption. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my emails.

  77. John X-avatar

The app lacks an option to automatically download all email content on WiFi, or always, if the user chooses so. Sometimes I'm traveling abroad where I don't have data or WiFi and can't retrieve emails with reservation information. I have to open every email before I travel, which is time consuming and I may forget to do. Simple functionality that any email app must have.

Proton Mail has been great for me so far. I've only been using it for a month but it's worth the $48/yr and I feel safe using it as my work email.

protonmail is one of the best private email services. I really like using it. but I'd wish a better/option to customize a spam filter for the free plan.

Great free service, don't get me wrong, I love ProtonMail, but the "entry" paid plan is far too expensive. Tutanota offers encrypted mail with the same feature set (no ads), for just over a dollar a month. Considering most people don't likely use as their primary email, it's crazy that I have to pay the same as my Office 365 plan (50GB mailbox + 1TB storage) just to get 5GB, 5 aliases, and ability to use my own domain with Proton. Throw us custom domain, 2 alias, and 2GB for $2 and Id be paying

The android app is not working. Actually, I think that the current version having some bugs, because I am getting the new notifications about the new emails, but it's not opening the associated emails in the Android app. . Pretty strange. . I should say that I can reconsider to change the rate if the problem is solved. Thank you!

Brilliant! Works flawlessly, and exactly as described. Functional, without frills. Its simplicity is highly refreshing - an app which performs its intended function with the accuracy and efficency on a par with the finest of Swiss watches, but without the bling found on modern impostors. Highly commended for sticking to your brief. Richly deserved five gold stars from a very happy and contented user. 🍻

Phone locking bug when outdated! This app will fail miserably when outdated. It tried to force me to update by locking down my phone - switching windows to update was impossible, killing the app neither because list of windows open was closed by the app itself telling me to update. Otherwise it's a simple and nice mail app and I hope the developers won't have such a painful bug in the future

  84. Kevin Conway-avatar

It's good for privacy but a few little annoyances. If you receive an email notification and read the email on another device, the notification doesn't go away so it looks like you always have an unread email. Whereas with Gmail/Outlook, if you open an email on another device the new email notification disappears from other connected devices. There's no way to remember your username or 2fa on a browser. You have to type out your username/emails everytime and enter your 2fa every single time.

Only used it one time so far, but far so good. Just be aware that there are a lot of optional extras that are not free. For example, if you want to make ProtonMail work with a desktop email client you have to pay the developer for "bridge" software. That said, I have no real complaints.

  86. Brad Dean-avatar

I have been using protonmail for a few years now on multiple platforms, from web browsers to the iOS app and now the android app and I'm very happy with it. Great android app. Secure email. 5/5

Protonmail offers one of the best email experiences I've ever seen. With the main feature being security and encryption, protonmail leads the market in an increasing demand for privacy and safety. I can only recommend this one and hope for more people to join in. The prices are fair and even though the design could need a little refresh, it still gets the job perfectly done. Dark mode is supposed to be pushed out soon. Keep it going!

I love ProtonMail so much! The free version works fine, but if you want to upgrade to the paid version like I did, it is very inexpensive. I love how secure and straightforward this email is. It has lots of great features, but with great security, encryption, and no ads or spyware.

App just died now for some reason. You can't send mail. Nothing loads. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing works.

  90. Kay Tzu-avatar

ProtonMail overlay User interface stating "you must download new update" before log in bricked my phone. Clicking 'ok' doesn't make the pop up go away. You cannot go into settings to turn overlay off because the pop-up with the message won't stop on Oneplus 3t series. Only re-starting the phone kills the pop-up. Also why force people to download new updates and not allow them to access email? That's ass backwards customer service.

  91. Josh P-avatar

Glitch on screen. When update needed it locks me out of all apps and i have to turn off data and wifi then be faster than the app glitch to click the "close all apps" button on my phone. Seems kind of ridiculous for a high security app that is supposed to be state of the art in 2019. One would think there would be coding protocols to stop such tedious issues. If it glitches on a user phone, to the point of being seemingly Parasitic, what other protocols were missed?

  92. Jason K-avatar

could use some improvements. A simpler way of editing signature; and ability to act (mark as, delete, archive, etc) on emails from search results.

  93. S D-avatar

App does not delete messages when it's supposed to. It doesn't empty the trash bin when I ask it to even after clearing the cache. It's a bit buggy.

  94. John Horst-avatar

woke up to my phone burning hot and this app was stuck in a loop where it said i needed to update the app to use it. press ok, the same message pops up. when i try to kill the program by going in to settings the program pops up again with the same message saying it needs to be updated to be used and i had to force shutdown my phone. terrible design. edit: the app can't be updated. truly terrible everything.

  95. pl ay-avatar

it's great however the lower rating is be cause recently I was informed I needed to update the app as i opened it. it aggressively blocked any attempts to shut the app down or to open the App store for me to be able to update it. I had to restart the phone in order to access the App store

Can't really say anything but that if you want a safe and secure email account Protonmail is the way to go. The app is simple but does it's job very well.

  98. Ian Hansen-avatar

So far everything is great with the app and protonmail in general, my only question to anybody is how secure is the PIN feature for the app say in comparison to logging in with your username and password every time on the web?

Messages stuck while "sending", sent without attachment that was clearly attached, problems on and on, and considering email is used for professional, important life matters, not gaming and entertainment, this is not acceptable. So guess back to Gmail, they read it but it works.
