Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.
Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.
Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.
Proton Mail in the press:
“Proton Mail is an email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes
“A new email service being developed by a group from MIT that met at CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

I really appreciate the developers responding. It shows they care. I love the idea for this and I think it works in and of itself when it works.... but I had a hard time getting it to simply work as in turn on. for whatever reason for a long time it wouldn't load?! maybe it's my phone but it is a relatively updated phone being a Galaxy 10. like I said though, it did eventually work so I'm going to go up to three stars.

Used to be fantastic, I'm a protonvpn subscriber because of protonmail, but the last couple of months this has been awful. I get notifications that emails have arrived, but the app won't load them, it won't send emails and my phone notifies me, constantly, that the app is draining my battery. Webmail works fine, the app is no longer fit for purpose and causing you reputational damage. Sadly uninstalling

Used to be a reliable email but constant connectivity issues, especially when sending anything over 1 mb (Could possibly be my metal roofing ?) Personal issues since there is NO "Dark Mode" like other email services. That's a (-) Presently, Proton has issues and needs an overhaul by technical. Sorry guys, still ❤️ you.

Works great; easy to set up and use. No problems or hiccups at all (v 1.13.34 (781)). Only thing I'd like to see improved is to add an "archive" button in the message view, alongside the tag, delete, etc buttons (at present it's a two-step to use the folder button to the select archive, or use the swipe action in the message list view).

I have been pleased with this email. I have the plus version and thinking about the VPN. A little hard to keep up with the changes wish there was a simple outline or flow chart for it to help visualize the paths one can follow. Thanks

It used to be great, but updates to their policies state they will now log your IP address under the guise of if you break Swiss law. Never plan to, but the fact they will check your email and log your IP literally defeats the purpose. Guess I'll be looking for a new email and VPN service that actually cares about privacy...

Great service and app. Couldnt be more happy with it. I'm a free plan user, and I used it for all sort of personal usage like Job hunting, news feeds, etc, and the free storage is plenty for my usage. And more important, my data isn't being analized by a machine learning or being sold to third parties. Thank you!

Great app. I love protonmail and the proton vpn. Am posting from a relative's account, but I am a big fan of privacy friendly products and grateful to the people who offer us these options. I am sick of data harvesting surveillance heavy spyware. Good god I just want to email people I am close to or use the internet-not provide "data as oil" to all sorts of sleazebags/creeps. A user.

Happy to have found this email provider to have encrypted mail. Have created a work/professional and private email. Only need them for basis use however it is annoying that I can't have both open on the app on my phone and have to keep logging in/out to check emails. Otherwise no complains, app has a good layout and so far is bug free.

The service is good. But the app UI is very bad and it's also very slow. Otherwise it's pretty good. The website for accessing emails in browser is pretty good but the Android app is not upto the mark. I hope they improve the UI and bugs with future software updates.
