I know 5 stars is high - and moderate your expectations it's a train ticket app - but I really do think that in a field of terrible apps to buy transport tickets Northern have put together the best of the bunch. The interface is simple, searching is easy and it seems to manage to remember my details and log in. Functional bliss.

Awful. This app has crashed every single time I have tried to download my tickets over the last 3 days. I can't download them and according to their FAQs I'll have to repurchase my tickets if I can't download them which is absurd. Why bother with an app when the system of being emailed a QR code eticket worked perfectly fine. This is useless and unreliable

Very useful intuitive to use, no extra fees for buying tickets online. Good live times section. Doesn't have any irritating adverts. Keeps things nice and simple, if you need more sophisticated journey planners or live train maps, there are other apps/sites out there, which are probably more than 90% of people need for getting around. This app suits those of us who travel by train a lot, but don't maybe want those extra features that only a hardcore rail enthusiast might be interested in.
