"This app can no longer be used to purchase tickets." The main raison to use this app is suddenly gone without a single word from Virgin Trains. I enjoyed using this app for a few years, but a word of goodbye and an explanation would have been warranted.

Cannot buy tickets through the app anymore so essentially pointless.

I just want to buy an anytime day ticket for a local commute travelling on any train brand like I can at the booking office or at the machine at the station so I can get the train when I'm ready and not have to choose a specific time, that's very difficult using the app as I have to work it out by experimenting with different times and identify an anytime ticket by the price which is sometimes not even possible. Also it only lets me buy a ticket about 3 or 4 times out of 5, the rest of the time it says "Something went very, very wrong" o.k. great.

Terrible app,never ever ever get the seat I selected,how hard is it when u choose ,forward,table socket or aisle,be tons a seats unreserved an I'm never where I selected,seat often double booked as in only mine on app different destination on seat when get on train ,pathetic,used this app for a while AVOID AVOID

Easy to navigate around and purchase tickets.. However seat reservation preferences are never honoured even when there are similar "Available" seats in the train which defeats the purpose of having that as an option..

Fed up of the seat preference option. I use this app all the time and it is OK. However, it's almost like the system precisely allocates the seat you don't want. I always put in aisle and table preferences for Virgin services, and EVERY time I'm allocated a non-table window seat. I understand table seats are limited of course (and there is a disclaimer about the system), but why does it ALWAYS sit me next to the window, when there are always aisle seats available - very frustrating.

Can't book tickets so what's the point? Also even if I can't book tickets why can't I still plan my route?

Completely useless. Train was delayed from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly, and app updated me with thw status of "Delayed". At no point other than that did it show any status, except for "Departed". I'd missed my train. Please refrain from showing fictional train updates, it would be a lot better if you simply did not try....

Really disappointed. It showed the wrong platform and when i checked the status update everything seemed fine even though everything wasn't fine. The had to change the train and use grand Central. Never updated is about the change. What is the point of the app if it can't can't keep you updated and on numerous occasions gets the platform number wrong. So annoying

Can no longer purchase tickets on this. Why bother have it

This app was great up until the last update. It's now pretty much useless as it just crashes a few seconds after opening. UPDATE: a further update to the app on 4th September 2019 seems to have finally fixed the problem referred to above.

Not finding all tickets. Temporarily none, but after reinstalling the app some tickets booked at the same time are visible. Worse than pdf reader.

Doesn't even let me log in, saying it doesn't recognise my password, even though I log into the desktop site with that password. Tried changing password but that didn't work either. Absolute garbage. Uninstalled

Very disappointing. Worked well for a week and doesn't work at all now. On the other hand , the London Midland app is much more reliable

Seriously!! I can't even make a payment. I called the bank to find out if there was a problem with my card and they said it was completely fine. Your app is not the same anymore. It's trash now🚮🗑

Great app, but we need to be able to change our seats as we can on the desktop version. I always get stuck with terrible seats if I let the app choose.

Extremely disappointed that you cannot see the seat map so you can see whereabouts in the coach you are booking. This is the only thing stopping me from using the app to actually book tickets.

Great for booking tickets and keeping track. I would have given it 5 stars if there was the option to add the tickets to the Google Pay app instead of just Apple Pass.

Two issues one with the app one with the journey. My tickets disappeared in the app luckily I had printed them. The train is the coldest in the history of train travel.

Pretty good app, but annoying that it struggles to show downloaded tickets when in poor reception area. They're downloaded, internet access should not be required.

Does not allow any bookings. Fails with stupid error every time. Even after deleting cache and reinstalling.

Certainly an easier way to buy than the website, but there's no option for multiple journeys, unlike the website.

What's the point of having a 'Download ticket' button if u can only get to the 'my tickets' page when u have data connection?

So long, farewell, auf weidersein, adieu Virgin, but where is Avanti app? No sign of it on launch day, is this an omen for how they will run the service? Previous version of this app suddenly lost my tickets as I was about to travel all because another unwanted update was deemed necessary. Sick of updates, think its easier to buy paper tickets....well until you need to get them refunded due to train cancellation then its just a nightmare.

The automatic refunds when you purchase and advanced ticket has never worked, despite having the tickets all through the app. Every time have to go through the email process and always takes 3-4 weeks. The trains are normally full so never get your reserved seat.

Used to be a great app for ticket purchases, train timetables etc... Can no longer purchase tickets renders this useless. What a shame!

This app was good but where is the Avanti app! I need to book tickets for next weekend and this app has stopped working as if today. I really hope Avanti don't slow down the trains and raise prices.

two problems: (1) UX not really thought about: I have to swipe back and forth to find basic info like my seat & train times (2) occasionally doesn't find my tickets; the fix is to come off wi-fi onto phone's data plan

Please bring back this app. This was the best app I had .

Initially worked really well (that's why I am not giving this one star), but recently the app became very unstable. At first, my tickets did not even show on the app under the My Tickets tab. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and the ticket finally displayed correctly. But when I tried to download the ticket at the station, the ticket failed to download. For this reason, I even missed my train...

The app has improved in the last year. Tickets still sometimes struggle to load if the signal drops, even if they have already been downloaded. It would also be nice to be able to have the option to buy paper tickets. My account only allows digital tickets however when booking a group trip, paper tickets are preferred. Besides this the app works great and doesn't charge booking fees!

Extremely frustrating that the app forces you to use electronic tickets (some tickets don't give you a paper option), but then fails to load the ticket even if they've already been downloaded. Major oversight by Virgin app developers - I've been caught out several times not able to get through the ticket barrier, or the train conductor has gone through the whole train while waiting for my ticket to load. Only through the kindness of rail staff have I not been penalised for this failing.

This is an excellent app, few tweaks needed to get five stars from a user experience point of view. Only one screen shows the seat reservation details for each ticket. This is key when boarding a busy train so would be better if this was larger and on the Barcode and Ticket tabs too so users don't have to scratch about for it. Especially useful when app has many tickets as you'll only need to click into that journeys ticket once to manage it.

ok when it works. Today for example it made me miss my train. First attempt at paying ticket "oops something went wrong" second attempt "authorization failure". Tried getting a Virgin train ticket specifically and got "no method to deliver tickets" after attempting payment (e-ticket was selected as the only option). Thanks Virgin. Fix that at least and then we can start talking about not having people who buy the same ticket every day need 10 clicks every time...

Good app but doesn't have full capabilities of website. Please include ability to book specific seats on app as well as the website. Automatic delay repay is a great idea but you should be able to chose to refund to a different bank card/PayPal from the card that was used to purchase the tickets. Otherwise my employer gets refunded when my day is messed up! This is a major downside of the app and I'm seriously considering going back to conventional ticketing. Please add this functionality!

oops! oops! oops! I'm fed up of seeing "oops". This app used to be quite reliable but now it has lost its way: changing ticket times (causing unnecessary inconvenience); failing to download tickets; failing even to log me out! come on guys, let's have much more robust testing of this application before you release it.

The app that just does the very minimum in a overall stupid system in country where 3G/4G fails you every step of the journey... brilliant way to get people to buy double tickets. Then, when you try to even get to the contact page (where only praise is allowed, God forbid they allow for constructive criticism) you are inundated with pop up pages prompting you to other pages as you are busy writing on the comment space, as you click inadvertently on it and you have to go through the entire process again from scratch. Bravo Virgin train app for making my life a little hell on top of having trains delayed... Customer journey ? Zero, customer care: zero. My customer engagement toward the brand : zero

keeps crashing and very little help or info from the Virgin team. They encourage you to go paperless but when it crashes, no other soloution in place to help . Very poor service

Just installed the app and it won't let me log in with my Virgin Trains account. Just says "Something went wrong, please try again" repeatedly. I have reset the password and logged in using a web browser to do the account updates but it still won't let me log in to the app. My account is a West Coast account not East.

not letting me download it. I have a valid ticket in there which has gone to waste. 're installing it has permanently locked me out. What is going on?

This works well. The only hiccup is that i have to enter my security number each time I buy a ticket. It's no big deal. Tickets are delivered to my phone without fuss or delay. This is the least-clunky app I've found. I was using the GWR app, but they updated it and it now longer works properly ... a familiar story! AVOID GWR AT ALL COSTS.

Generally great for booking and looking up trains. To be even better, make it less tiresome to compare details of routes and prices. The only way to save a row is to buy it from what I can see. Sometimes I'd much rather add a couple of options to a list ready to compare then choose one. Or just have a screen of recent tickets looked at, with an option to revive from list maybe.

Yes virgin railways, when I buy two tickets for the same train obviously I want to have them both locked to the same device and unable to to send one ticket to one device and one to another. What technically illiterate manager imposed that restriction on your developers? And not one gate either of us tried to pass through was able to read the qr code either.

Tried to download app several times. It said to free up space which I did. It needed about 42 mb, I freed up over 200mb which is clearly is more than enough. It then said to delete 3 out 4 apps I use a lot before installation could complete. Since I need those apps and still have plenty of free space for this one...I am completely stuck and unimpressed. No wish to rate it more than 1 at the moment but will if this can be fixed. Many thanks.

Don't trust it to hold the tickets. I activate the ticket at home but when I get to the station app has closed and I have to find my ticket again to get through the barrier. Then when the train manager comes to inspect tickets its gone off again. Very frustrating. Please stop the auto timeout.

Beware. Even after you have downloaded and activated your ticket you still need a network connection if you let the app time out. This means if you need to show your ticket where there is no connection you are screwed. Beware .. if you have disabled app updates over mobile data connection you will not be able to download, activate or use your ticket unless connected to wifi. These are critical flaws in the application which will totally stress you out and lead to missed trains and repayments.

Ticket prices vastly more expensive than website for same journey. £22.50 vs £8 for exact same journey, same day, same time. How many people are getting absolutely stung by choosing the convenience of the app over the website. Everything that is wrong with the utterly opaque ticketing system in this country.

Very clunky. Not possible to check train times without stating method of travel, which isn't always required as I just wanted to check times, not buy tickets. App seems to ignore requests for specific seat reservations - will book unsuitable seats despite the requested seats being available (available via Web UI but not via app). App doesn't seem to cache e-tickets properly despite tickets being downloaded - conductors advise to take a screenshot of the ticket due to this being known issue.

Stay away untill virgin fix the issue with its "free" seat selecetion. it just doesnt work :( I tried using this aap 7 times. Each occassion, I gave my seat preferences as Front facing, table window as I have to work while traveling and it helps to have a power plug and a table... Without exception all the seven times I got aisle seat back facing :( - Mind it I book my tickets at least two months in advance as I travel every weekend. So what I did is get on to the train and find a front acing, window seat with table. So, they did have them. Just didnt wanted to give me. It happenmed all the seven times. Then why did you gave me the offer of "FREE" seat election? I do not want to mention the other app I use, but yeah that provided me the seat I wanted almost everytime; with same rates. I am back to this app after giving trying this 7 times. Good bye!

When I ask to reserve a seat it doesn't work. Several times I have chosen the quiet coach only to be given a seat in another part of the train. Last time this happened I checked and there were 11 free seats in the quiet coach. Please fix this BUG!!!

Decent app, no complaints. Just a suggestion; having to switch between the ticket app and the rail card app can be time consuming and a bit frustrating when your tickets are getting checked. It would be great to have the two apps linked somehow or have a way to access the rail card through the ticket app.

Persistent problems at Euston Station the Virgin Trains web site does not give a print ticket or pick up ticket option for Euston it insists on downloading the ticket and activating it via thos app. I travel from Euston regularily and have persisten problems in downloadung tickets in Euston Road and in the statipn via 4g on the EE network which Vitgin Mobile uses, and via the station wifi provided by Virgin media. Total farce.

Great app! Only issue I have is the ~20 second delay after clicking "My Tickets" before I can actually see any of my tickets. Results in a lot of awkward waiting whilst the train conductor is waiting to check tickets!

As noted by Daniel Leca on 18/11/18, there is a problem with the latest version of the app that prevents the ticket or QR code being displayed. Virgin Trains seem to be unaware of this problem.

Updated the app and now I can no longer buy any tickets because "the app doesn't allow" it.....

Let's you buy tickets easily enough, but often won't let you download them so you're stuck at the gate and miss your train. I've missed several trains now because their servers are awful. Uninstalling and going with thetrainline

This app has a serious problem where e-tickets expire too early and i can't access them. I was stuck behind the ticket barrier in Coventry because the ticket was no longer active. Luckily i had the ticket in my email but i should not have to rely on that.

Delay compensation should be integrated with used tickets in app, instead of opening external URL and requiring manual entry of ticket details. At the very least, ticket details such as booking ref should by copyable!

Not sure how but the latest version is even slower than the previous...and has now made me miss my train, now late for work, and had to buy another paper ticket

When trying to view my ticket details, it's just a stupid blank page. Virgin Trains is sinking just like the rest of the UK. Good riddance!

Unable to deselect mobile tickets. Mobile tickets mean you have to rely on your phone having power, they often dont scan, your phone is as risk of being stolen when passing through stations, you cant buy a ticket for someone else....

Unusable, keeps reporting "line one must not be empty". I assume this means address line one. it wasn't empty. All other fields were completed.

so slow, can take up to 5 mins to buy download and activitie a ticket. if youre on the train and thr ticket inspector comes round and you have not activated ticket, youll have to enjoy a few minutes bof awkward silence

Downloaded app. Clicked on link in email. No ticket appeared. Retried several times. Rubbish. Thankfully I've been able to save the tickets somewhere else. Thanks for wasting my time and data allowance

Every single time I request Quiet coach and every single time it books me in another one. It also rams all reservations in one or two carriages and leaves the others empty. Useless!

App is good had to problems with it. Ticket downloads quick. Sometimes there is a short delay in bringing up ticket but that happens.

essentially a scam since I paid for a train ticket and then missed the train because the app won't load the ticket. updated the app and now it tells me I don't have a ticket to load in the first place.

The app is good and easy to use. My beef is that when I use the seat preferences option I never get any of my preferences, in fact I get the opposite.

Now you can't book tickets from overseas. Why? Times were all over the place anyway but it was just about useable.

I have tried logging into the virgintrain app but have been unsuccessful. I had to log into website and purchase ticket on website but can only receive it on mobile app which has refused to work. What do I do?

Pathetic, paid for a ticket, the app said the train leaves from platform 2A but it left from 1A. I missed the train and had other delays on my route because of it. Not going to use it again. I've raised a complaint let's see if they do anything sbout it.

I have found the Android app useful for displaying the ticket but pot for booking and prefer to use the pc web interface, which is excellent

This app every other day has a different problem, usually related to purchasing and activating tickets

UI problems on sign up on Samsung S8. Reported it and the dev team responded immediately, requesting more info and screenshots. Looks like they are on the case!

I'm also getting the 'Line 1 Is Empty' error message so app is absolutely useless.
