Sometimes LED bulbs flicker intermittently. If you have many LED bulbs in a room, it may be difficult to determine which bulb is at fault. Turn on this app and place your phone on a flat surface (screen facing up) directly under the suspected LED bulbs. The app will measure the percentage of LED bulb flickering to help you locate the bulb that is at fault. You can use this app anytime that you want to measure varying light levels. You can set a flicker percentage threshold level. When a light flicker exceeds this threshold, the app will make a beep and increment a flicker count. This app uses your phone's built-in light sensor to rapidly measure the light intensity and detect any flickers. Some phones have a more responsive light sensor than others. A light sensor that updates at least 10 times per second is recommended to detect brief flicker events. The app's Settings screen will show you the update rate of your phone's light sensor. See the app's Help screen for more information. This app is free - with no ads or special permissions.

Tried this at my local IKEA store, and tested all the led lights on display. Referenced the results with other means (camera anti flicker, mechanical stroboscope measurement) and the app results seem very unreliable, at least for me. So if you want to use this app to find led bulbs that are flicker free, other methods yield better results.

It won't take much to make me add a star or two. The app does sort of work, it's free and doesn't ask for permissions it shouldn't have. There are however a few flaws. First, and this really needs to be fixed, has to do with the max flicker reading. If you for instance place the phone on a table, with the camera pointing upwards towards the ceiling; the max flicker reading will be generated by the movement of putting and retrieving the phone from the table. Not from the flicker. What could be added is a delayed start with a timed measurement. - Click reset. - The app starts to count down from let say 5. - The app beeps when the measurement begins. - The app measures for a selected period of time. - The app beeps again, and freezes the values. Second, the flickering that would concern most users has its origin in the mains frequency. This is of course far more advanced to implement, but: - If the user selects 50 Hz, the app should filter out the flicker occurring with a couple of harmonics of 50 Hz, and suppress the rest. - If the user selects 60 Hz, the app should filter out the flicker occurring with a couple of harmonics of 60 Hz, and suppress the rest. Third, some histograms?
