I've found Focus to be so suitable, it's the only web browser I have on my phone. The browser's apparent limitations can be worked around. Backing through a tab's entire history closes it. The "add to home screen" function replaces bookmarks. When tapping a home screen link, the site will open in a new tab. A "blank" tab can be opened by saving the "Book of Mozilla" page (about:mozilla) to the home screen, then tapping that whenever a new tab is needed.

download Great app. One minor annoyance is that after a recent update, when you press back in a tab, the tab just vanishes instead of actually going back. This is especially annoying because of how you can't reopen that closed tab (by design).

apk This app is great except The fingerprint lock worked for a week now never locks, I've deselected and reselected this option many times, even reinstalled the app but it no longer works. This makes it unusable for me now Also a great setting option be the option when you hit the trash/kill button that it cleared everything AND closed the app.

for pc Love this! Easily my favorite and most used mobile browser by far for a while now. Just perfect for all the one off searches or article reads I do. Keeps me focused and my other browsers decluttered. The big trash button is the best!

firefox focus privacy browser review This is honestly what browsers should've been. Fast, spoofed, minimalistic, open source, and to the point. Always 5 out of 5

Ask to submit permissions every single time I try to search even though I have done this every single previous time. Fix it or uninstall.

  7. Keonix-avatar

Absolutely love it! Made it default browser to open all links or to search something quickly not cluttering main browser with tabs, now it's smoothest browsing experience on Android. It's not perfect, but close to it. Would be cool to have compatibility with Android WebView, because some stuff still opens in chromium. Also add-ons would be useful. No option to save cookies on exit for some sites, it's annoying to change search settings all the time, for example. Hope it won't get discontinued

No bloated features that makes the UI heavy, the UI is lightweight and easy to use. Just two things, the size of this browser is pretty big for it's purpose, the size is no different from other browsers with bloated features. Make the ads pop up in new tab, it's annoying to press back button several times to go back because it redirects the entire page. Nevertheless this a a browser that respects your privacy and serves its purpose.

  9. Pete Hernandez-avatar

PROS: minimalistic UI, simplistic and secure browsing. CON: Arkward placement of UI. Everything is at the top of the screen which is not easy access with one handed browsing when being held. NEEDS TO ADD: Side swipe for bookmarks (encrypted), keyboard logging exist! Would be nice to have easy access to share button for people like me that like to use text to speach apps or sharing w/ friends. I believe this browser does not have encryption or auto-delete on close option but a manual button.

  10. Neil Gooding-avatar

Accept the Risk and Continue button isn't clickable when there's a certificate error. The notification is also awful- it is there when you've started a new app to tell you you're mid browsing, but you can't return to it from the notification, only end it. It is also impossible to close only one tab- the delete session button becomes the select tab button, so you can't close it. Very strange UI decisions all round.

  11. Matt Redmond-avatar

    Matt Redmond

Love the private by default approach. Unfortunately, there is no way to open a new tab (it can be done by holding a link etc, but not directly), nor closing individual tabs during a session makes this unusable (for me at least) as a daily browser. If that were included in this version, this would be 5 stars. Going back to the standard Firefox version instead.

I have been using it for years, and it is not as good as it used to be. Focus is extremely slow compared to Chrome and Brave (based in my own experience). When it comes to ads, it performs badly and sometimes you cannot close certain ads which have a "close" button (For example the video clips of Fandom Wikia). Som popups are also problematic specially when you actually want the popup). I am switching to Brave, after using Focus for years. I hope the devs fix it.

Firefox Focus used to be very slow and I am glad Mozilla has been updating it regularly since the browser's performance has greatly improved. One notable security feature, that was only available on iOS, is that FF can be opened using your phone's fingerprint scanner. Also, after having used both browsers, Focus has a slight edge over DuckDuckGo's in blocking trackers and scripts too. Last year, Mozilla was supposed to replace this and their flagship browser with Fenix. The new version has most of the privacy protections of Focus and other parts of their regular browser. Fortunately, Mozilla decided to keep this one. Focus is a very good choice if you prefer a light browser that has excellent out-of-the-box privacy and security protections. Now, Mozilla, could you please update the icon? ;-)

Firefox Focus browser meets my expectation. And I appreciate Badger, Ghost, Duckduckgo. Best of all, I'm thankful to be rid of GoogleChrome. Samsung was ok(?), but controlled by Google (which I despise) AND made it a mess, cumbersome, blicked most all the time, wasted time & effort.

  15. Timothy Lawrence-avatar

I have one MAJOR irritation with the browser. For some reason image files download as .bin files and cannot be opened by any of my photo apps. I found this issue was reported on github (Issue #2713) where they acknowledge it is an issue, dismiss it and then close the report. That was in 2018 and in 3 years nothing has changed. I don't know why the topic was closed since .bin files are not an understood file extension by any stretch of the imagination so this is a bug and not a feature.

  16. Oz-avatar

This used to be good. Had it for over a year, I just updated it this week. Since then every time I open up it says couldnt load page until I retry to reload it a few times. Then once Im in, going to another page causes the same problem. EVERY TIME. Truely annoying so it Deletesville for you. Plus the trash button sucks because you accidently hit it due to its position on screen frequently causing aggravation enough to say outloud "damn it!" Its not that great, I need something better.

  17. Nihal Dadheech-avatar

It shows "erase and open %1$s" on android 10 home screen popup, i think it is a developers mistake, and if open and close the browser by clicking on this %1$s option it stuck and after pressing back key I land on homepage. Please fix it. It is not a good thing to see this type of code keywords on Mozilla product. And everything is working fine I like this browser. And if you have any post for QA engineer I am ready to test your products.

  18. Jacobo Garcia Garcia-avatar

    Jacobo Garcia Garcia

People criticizing lacking features are missing the point. This browser is not supposed to be your daily driver full of features. Use normal Firefox if you want browser with many features. Focus is best for using as a throwaway browser (by, ironically, setting as default browser) so that when you click random links you receive via sms, whatsapp etc. they are not merged into the browsing history of your "regular" browser.

  19. Yea I Am Native-avatar

    Yea I Am Native

The moto of this browser used to be "Browse. Erase. Repeat." Well for some reason ERASE function of this application has been disabled for Google. You cannot erase cookies pertaining to any Google service unless you forcestop the app and tap 'Clear Data.' This now appears to be only way to remove Google cookies & tracking in Firefox Focus.

  20. Andrew G-avatar

    Andrew G

It has improved over the past few months or so but why does it always change my selected search engine from Duck Duck Go to the dreaded Google every time there is an update? If I wanted Google as my search engine I would select it as such but I don't so I do not want to be forced back to the manipulated search results of Google every time there is an update.

  21. Dave Gong-avatar

    Dave Gong

Lacks a lot of quality of life features that every browser should have. If you are concerned about security and tracking it is a decent browser, it will conveniently wipe everything after you exit. But as a main browser it's pretty limited, you cannot set up bookmarks, their workaround is to install a shortcut on your menu screen. There's no easy way to open a new browser tab, and it's very easy to accidentally delete your browser history. You still get ads and it lacks alot of basic features.

  22. Gerry-avatar

Set this as your default browser is the way to go. Then use normal Firefox with unblock origin for stuff where you actually have to login or to watch YouTube (disable YouTube app). Can't go wrong. Just wish it had dark reader add installed by default but I understand they need to keep it as fast as as lean as possible.

  23. U.N. Owen-avatar

Still no dark mode for websites. Dark theme borders are default, but the glaring white screens of webpages make this browser unusable for this migraine sufferer. Contacted devs twice about this... No help, no changes. Now using Vivaldi which has a proper (& migraine safe) dark mode.

Quick and convincing way of browsing the web without avoidable tracking.

  25. Facundo Ooo-avatar

    Facundo Ooo

This is the way this app should go. Hard-core encryption and able to access websites and online files. This app should be able to access private information easily without getting stuck on pages or trouble loading files online. This app would be great to use for accessing accounts on Amazon, banks, even emails. Reason being is because it should be deleting everything you do. All cookies, all history etc... That's why I believe this app should go the way of focusing on accessing sensitive info.

  26. Harsh K-avatar

    Harsh K

Best browser for privacy. I love it because all the necessary settings for privacy are already made by default. You don't need to spend a lot of time trying to configure privacy settings like in Brave and chrome etc. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

  27. Matt Blank-avatar

    Matt Blank

I have a lot of trouble sometimes with simply loading some websites that chrome has no problem with. And it doesn't seem to play nice with my VPN, and have no idea why that would be... Also I can't support them anymore if they're going to tell people how they have to use the internet.

  28. Andrew Wilson-avatar

    Andrew Wilson

I use this regularly to partition my random link follows and google searches from my (unavoidable) logged-in activity. Very nice to have a separate privacy focused browser for this.

I have enjoyed it for. Years. And. It is has givin it's best to providing a less tracking for other helpful ways other helpful useful ways of helping others who don't know what to delete let's try giving supporrful tips like don't. Use the. Delete or cranky trash can ... And just just because it's best for our foxy app friend like feedback volunteers who are wordplaysavy users who thought good times were being in a foxy worldly place .

  30. Bethlectic-avatar

Its ok, not as many protection options as id like as far as privacy goes, but overall its ok. A good compromise between functionality and privacy if youre not as worried about privacy as much as functionality, and watching videos and stuff. Its my second choice behind Tor, but still keep it on my phone for a second option (bc video functionality is better on firefox focus).

  31. LucklessCope-avatar

I like this browser. Very simple and enough settings for easy browsing without a hassle. My only wish is a button to open a new tab. Now I need to hold a link in existing tab and open that link in a new tab in order to do it

  32. Google User-avatar

    Google User

you can't start a new tab (you have to open a link in a new tab to get a new tab). doesn't even block the most basic ads like youTube ads. and top of that everty time you save a single link/make a shortcut it take about 1MB 😂

  33. Kol Ardins-avatar

The app handles privacy well. I got onto it by knowing the intense tracking that happens on the internet. The tabs icons showing up in the bottom of the screen is handy. The app feels very responsive as lot of trackers are turned off. Good job mozilla

As a long time default user of Firefox Focus, I am disappointed with the new updates having the smaller fonts. I hardly can read it for both my wife and myself. How can I increase the font size or at least from your end make the font size larger for mobile phone user.

  38. dukeduke-avatar

Would be good everything else is good, but in any text field other than the adress bar it wont let me type anything, same as any pull down menu tab of a website it appears and instantly goes away.

So incredibly limited vs FF nightly and Brave. If looking for easy quick privacy tools, use Brave, but for advanced and add-ons, Firefox / Nightly is far superior, and so customizable.

I used this for over a year and really liked it at first. As of late though it enables trackers even after pages have been erased and browsing isn't actually truly private. Still a good browser just feel that it's marketed in a manipulative way

Clears my tabs without my consent. Has horrible bugs that break the browser. Even worse, this browser is neglected and so those bugs never get fixed. GeckoView and Android Components suck. Firefox Focus makes me want to smash my phone. It can't even remember tab history properly.

  46. Mohammed Amine-avatar

I like this app a lot. It's nice to have a lightweight browser for just quickly opening links and stuff. Just be careful because, since it doesn't save any of your browsing history, if you accidentally close the app or it has to get reloaded cause your memory is low, you won't be able to get back to the web page you were on. I know that's a privacy feature, not a bug, and I'm cool with that.

Some issues I noticed with it are the inability to make new tabs unless you hold down a link to be given the option to open it in a new tab. The option to add search engines does not work at all, even when correctly saving the search query string.

Firefox and the "privacy" flavored sidekick, Focus, are sieves for information leakage. They once enjoyed a rep as the underdog Chrome competitor, but have become similarly cumbersome and intrusive with growth. Google pays Mozilla to use them as default search, which is clearly counterintuitive. If all you want is a browser that doesn't keep (much) identifying history, it's adequate. Serious security needs are better met by TOR, TAILS, or even DuckDuckGo. Be cautious and don't buy the hype.

Desperately needs the ability to close tabs without having to backtrack through their history to the original page they were opened to. Also, app is a *severe* RAM hog when multiple tabs are open.

Some of the reviewers here simply don't get what Focus is all about. It's an occasional lightweight browser heavily geared towards privacy. Make it your Android default browser, so for occasions when: Scanning QRcodes for covid check-in. Following links from other apps, particularly SMS/Signal messages. Quickly checking the news, weather or whatever. It's not a full-featured muti-tab browser, and it's not meant to be. It doesn't need to be loaded up with plugins, nor build for tab-heavy, feature-rich browsing. If you need that, use Firefox. I have both on my home screen, and have FOCUS as my default browser. Because it's lightweight it loads up fast, and more likely to remain in phone RAM. Sometimes feature-loaded apps are not the best. Focus is minimalism at it's light-footed best.

For privacy 5⭐. Does what it says. Had no issue using for 3 months. Totally happy with this browser. Only con is that, as a browser the functions/features are so less. But after all, privacy comes first.

The trash button should be an option. It is annoying and inconvenient because it's too easy to hit. I do however understand some people might want the trash can button available. Other than that the browser is clunky, often doesn't load pages and lacks enough features. I do use it a lot because I hate Google tracking me. But this browser can be better. Not necessarily a full fledged bowser. Just less difficult to use.

Amazing how fast a mobile browser can be when all the cruft is removed or blocked by default. :) I've very rarely run into it breaking site functionality, but I put the blame for that on the website generally.

Very annoying how once u make it the default browser u can't remove it from the drop down tray by swipping. U literally have to click clear and open, open the app and then close it. Also slows down my already slow phone

After the update, it won't let me open up drop down menus on certain websites. Websites usually have a drop down menu. With this update, I am unable to open the drop down menu and similar features (the other thing that doesn't work is when you click 'more' to read more of a description) on some websites. I tried the same thing on a couple of different browsers on my phone and it works fine with no issue.

I like Firefox as a company, but this app is just not thoughtfully made. First, to open a new tab, you must hold down a link somewhere and wait to be prompted to open it as a new tab. There is literally no button to just open a new tab, like virtually any other browser. Second, it is not intuitive or easy in number of clicks to whitelist a site from ad blocking. These two make it a big failure for me, would be happy to redownload after the needed fixes with tabs/whitelist.

It's a great Browser, however I still would like to have Bookmarks and even more important the ability to open new tabs directly without having to open a new tab by highlighting text and open from there. I don't think a privacy browser shouldn't have bookmarks. Everyone should be able to decide by themselves if they want to use them or not.

I had a mixed experience. An year ago, it worked fast and nice. Then updates broke it and it wouldn't work. Then again it was back to working smoothly. And now again, after the latest update, the browser wouldn't load anything. Am I supposed to make it my default browser that wouldn't work half the time? Sorry, but I intend to uninstall.

Randomly freezes all open tabs and replaces with blank about url. Won't even refresh the page when you select the url. Other various issues since changeover to gecko view engine. The "trash" icon that wipes out your browsing history is located in the same spot that the switch tab button is located, making it a too easy to wipe everything out accidentally... give user option to confirm! Long press time (to open a link in another tab) is way too long. Videos keep running even after switching tabs.

This is a great search engine for when you have to focus and do not care for the annoyance of pop ups trying to steer you off route into the great abyss of the internet. Firefox Focus is great for researching especially when there's a deadline coming up and you need to tunnel vision into your project.

I totally agree with this browser: high privacy, high speed; Those who give a low rating to this browser are completely wrong, they expect a mistake from this browser. As a privacy browser Focus is up to the expectation. Just a few more options, it would have been perfect. One is opening a new tab from browser window, from the current tab. Second is the issue with image downloading and as a third a PDF webpage downloader would be nice.

Guys, It's a PRIVACY BROWSER. The whole point of a privacy browser is to hide your activity from others. Of course you can't save tabs and bookmark things, that would defeat the purpose. Anyone who got your phone could just hop on and pull up your bookmarks and browser history. Ty Downs, stop telling the developers to THINK. You're the moron here. You THINK. The developers did exactly what they were supposed to do. Protect privacy. Stop criticizing and go try to make your own web browser.

Location of trash button is terrible and leads to accidental deletions, it should be moved out of the way, at the top of the screen. Other than that, it is a good fast browser....Would like a dark mode.
