Very difficult even to manually update despite several reinstalls. Always used to work faultlessly on opening the app. Not any more. Update: No problem at all with new phone ('Hawaii,' as I find it easier to call it) so either an effective update or the old Samsung J5 ultimately couldn't handle it, perhaps due to ever diminishing capacity. Was disappointed I never got any reply from three attempts to ilicit technical advice from BBC reps. Reliability of forecast? It hedges its bets cunningly.

  2. Adonis Bambam-avatar

The App has changed to worse imo. I cannot order my location preferences as before. The App opens on my "favourite location". but it should open on 'My Location' imo. As for "accurate" forecasts, how can it be so inaccurate! To be fair, when the weather has changed from the previous forecast, the App does update to 'prove itself correctly forecasting'. In short, if the App forecasts dry, take a jacket and an umbrella with you

  3. Rowan Neville-avatar

Fantastic source to find accurate weather information from the BBC for your area, but the app is let down by technical details. App opens to top favourite location, not current location?! For some reason the app will sometimes freeze and not allow you to scroll through the hours of the day. Whenever you search a location's weather, it saves it in your sidebar, why is it not optional to save? Swiping to delete multiple locations (3+) one after another causes the app to crash every time.

  4. Kam Purewal-avatar

Needed a good simple app for weather but wanted one with a widget. One major flaw overlooked by the developers is the omission of the current temperature in the widget. It only shows the max and min for the day. BBC need to look at other weather apps out there, which offer much more information and are considerably better to look at.

  5. Keith Moss-avatar

Reasonably functional app in terms of navigation. But thats where the positive ends. In terms of what ths app is primarily for; forecasting weather - its pretty useless and by the BBC too !!?? I only ever use it for a rough temperature or wind guide not for rain so have uninstalled from many devices where limited storage. In contrast the Met office app and browser form is far more accurate as with other sites. The Met is usually my go to app if i need accurate info as an outdoor sports person.

  6. marita hanson-avatar

I am very happy with BBC Weather report. I have tried other weather reports and they often don't get their weather report correct. Being as I am no longer able to drive my car I now have a mobility scooter so it is important I know whether it is viable to have an outing or not. Also what clothes to wear. Keep up the good work.

  7. Jean Voyle-avatar

Insists on using current location to display the widget. Why? It's just wasting battery. I'm quite capable of entering my home location from a list. Within a few miles of that the weather is not going to change anyway. Why be tracked and waste your battery just to display what the weather is in my local town? Widget should display the weather I'VE chosen to display NOT just current location.

  8. Stuart B-avatar

When I open the BBC weather widget on my Samsung S8 it just shows a picture of the sky. When I open the app directly from my app menu, it shows current weather (it works as it should). I've uninstalled it and reinstalled but has the same issue. Good app when it works though.

  9. Iain Mackay-avatar

Great weather app for local conditions across the country and abroad. Works well on my chromebook which was important to me. Clear and concise forecast, no intrusive ads, and generally reliable forecasts. Don't use widgets on the chromebook not a concern so not a concern.

  10. Terry Mitchell-avatar

Very easy to install and use. Accurate and frequently updated as conditions change. I refer to this app several times a day as I have an exceptionally large garden and grounds so accurate weather forecasts are necessary for effective use of my time outdoors.

  11. Pam Hunt-avatar

Generally accurate, but changes very frequently, and sometimes still caught out by real weather on the ground ( like a heavy rain shower when it's claiming 0% rain). Terminology is sometimes dubious: today, with winds rated 16-19, they are still described as a 'breeze', even though some of my plants are flattened and drying washing on an outdoor line risks it blowing away.

  12. Louise Bown-avatar

Used to be really good but after a while the app doesn't work. When I click on the app to see the forecast I get nothing, just a blank screen with the BBC logo and the background screen of clouds. Tried everything to get the app working, only thing that does work is uninstalling and installing it again, but that's not great when you're doing it every week or so.

  13. Nigel Wootton-avatar

Exceptionally informative of the weather and climatologically educational too, especially in respect of unusual weather patterns. Carol Kirkwood and the entire team cannot possibly be more adept engaging and entirely professional. I like to the odd rogue shower: forecaster's warning for lack of attention to the forecast or cheek!

  14. Mehul Mitha-avatar

App is buggy on a Samsung S8. Requires constant clearing of stored data. The widget just shows a blue background without any info. Then when launching the app via the widget same issue, just the blue background screen. Once reset it usually works well for around 2 weeks.

  15. Phillip Roberts-avatar

    Phillip Roberts

Every time I open app it asks me to switch on location despite my home town already saved. GPS then left switched on for all apps to use. Irksome feature which pops up every time and developers ignored my request to switch off. Forecasts seem less accurate of late as well.

  16. Johnny No Mates-avatar

    Johnny No Mates

A fair depiction of current weather, but not a forecast,, rather a rolling update of what you see out of your window. Always too keen to find out details like location history. BBC should be broken up and sold off.

  17. Kevin Mullen-avatar

I think it is a great app, in seconds I can see current conditions and future weather predictions to plan journeys and outdoor activity. The 1-3 day predictions are usually accurate and 4 days and above a pretty good idea of weather later on in the week .The graphics are clear and understandable and the other weather prediction sites are in no way a match or comparable to the BBC one. Please kerp this app going.

  18. Old White Hair-avatar

The app is now operationally functional after a long period of dysfunction following the disastrous early July 2019 update. Accuracy is appalling however, for instance - during the exceptionally wet February of 2020 and into early March the forecast of rain, it's timing, duration and intensity, was innaccurate EVERY SINGLE DAY! That's a full six weeks of what amounts to no better than guesswork.

  19. Andrew Brown-avatar

Never really works. Just a blue screen when you click the widget. When it does work it takes you to one of your saved locations rather than your current location when you click on it. Taken away the "when at (your current location) show..." Function so I now have to see the weather for the next town.

  20. Farmer Palmer-avatar

My wife can predict a better weather forecast when she has a feeling in her water. I can't help but feel the weather is predicted by someone looking out the window and updating what they see, but sometimes they must be blindfolded. Bizarre method of weather prediction.😂

  21. Bernard Pink-avatar

Apart from a couple of occasions it Has proven to be reliable and accurate. I'm in a weak signal area which has not helped. Since installing I use it several times a day for "my local area". Pleased.

  22. Robert Farrands-avatar

    Robert Farrands

Easy to use and set up. I think it's more accurate than the Met Office app and gives better local forecasts. Although it doesn't have rain radar or surface pressure chart maps its gives a prediction further ahead than the met Office app.

  23. Mairetheresa harding-avatar

    Mairetheresa harding

Agree with others that it is a good app but not functionally reliable of late. Location is coming up as one of my saved locations instead of default and I literally have to change it every single time. Also loads with a blank screen regularly. Some other apps make distinction between drizzle/rain and partly cloudy/overcast which sounds picky but very useful when planning for the week. Love the layout, simplicity and no ads which is why I'm persevering in the hope that issues are temporary

  24. Mervyn Gilham-avatar

Seems wrong more often than right. Dissatisfied. If you have to rely on looking out of the window each day and watching the sky, kind of defeats the object. A one or two day forecast for my area surely can't be that hard especially when your desperate for rain.

  25. Neil Hardiman-avatar

Recently when I open the Android BBC Weather app I get the message, 'For a better experience, turn on device location, which uses Google's location service. Your device will need to: + Use GPS' If I select NO THANKS the message is repeated every time I open the app which is very frustrating, but if I try to select GPS location, I can't because the Android TV box which I use to access most BBC content, is only provided with wifi location. Please fix this, thanks

  26. P Macken-avatar

App spends nearly all its time saying, "forecast is unavailable try again". What a rubbish bit of software. When, sporadically (seems totally random), it does work the content is excellent. However, that's of scant benefit when the app won't display it (and then I have to manually go to the BBC Weather website). Who writes their app software; three-year olds?

  27. Colin Beedles-avatar

It's full of information especially if you work out doors or planning a hike or shopping .a handy piece of kit to take any where. I can tell now if it's going to rain or be sunny, wind direction and the barometric reading as well as pollen count.

  28. Bob Chanin-avatar

Great when they get it right not so when they don't which is getting less with time but it's a "forecast". To get it right all the time all you need to do is put your head outside and when you bring it back in if it's wet it's raining. Easy eh ÷)

  29. paul fyfe-avatar

Still by far the best weather app, easy to understand most aspects of forecast! Should be 4 star but since last update the name of the location where you atcually are is automatically choosen and can't be changed like you used to be able to do... Would prefer my set location to be the largest town nearest to me but instead app shows a obscure local area..

  30. Anthony Elvin-avatar

I like this app. I have it on most of my devices. It is consistently more accurate than the standard weather app pre-installed on Android devices which, annoyingly, cannot be deleted.

  31. Andrew Steele-avatar

The BBC weather app is fairly good on givivg you up- to-date current weather conditions in the UK and abroad, however the more important facility of forecasting future weather the BBC app is pretty poor in accuracy, plus the app keeps on crashing, which is never good, for weather forecasting you're better off with the Met Office app !

  32. Alec T-geezer-avatar

So irritating, asks EVERY TIME if i want to use google location. NO I DONT. DO NOT KEEP ASKING ME. If i want to know the weather in my current location i can look outside. I want to know the weather FORECAST for WHERE I LIVE because that happens to be where i return to on a regular and frequent basis. D'Oh! Seriously considering dumping this app because of this.

  33. Tim Plumridge-avatar

Only really use it as a quick check; seems to be accurate enough in the short term, although as to be expected with weather accuracy can diminish beyond a few days.

  34. Mark Wilkinson-avatar

Great app but hasn't worked for days on my Samsung S8+. Widget frustratingly insists on using your location instead of your presets as per previous comments. If it didn't and was more reliable I'd give it five stars.

  35. Suzanne Jemison-avatar

    Suzanne Jemison

Very good and easy to read. I have the app on my phone, iPad and computer and think it's excellent BUT can't say we get very good forecasts re wind strength. I realize that Flamborough is out in the sea but would be helpful to know what to expect because of where we are.

  36. Mark Kane-avatar

Is it just me or is the weather predictions way way off now. Used to be good but now your better off asking your buddgie for a prediction. Had enough of very poor reporting and forecasting not to mention the constant crashes. Moving over to the Met Office ..... even with ads it's better than this chocolate toothbrush.

  37. Kate Ness-avatar

Used to love this app but practically every day now when I try to open it I just get a blue screen. I have to re install to get it working again. PLEASE GET THIS FIXED !!!!

  38. Jim Bacon-avatar

Works very well, normally accurate, but tends to be a bit pessimistic. That's not a bad thing, as I would rather be prepared for bad weather and the bad weather does not arrive, than the other way round.

  39. Morgan B-avatar

After years of enjoying this App, it now takes forever to load the last few weeks. I had to download an alternative weather and will have to delete this App if it doesn't get better.

  40. Steve Norbury-avatar

After using and paying for other weather apps I got so fed up on how inaccurate they were I decided to go with the BBC weather app. If they can't get it right then no one can.

  41. Tim Metford-avatar

Very good app! It's so easy to use and get a dependable forecast as soon as you open it. The BBC have a much better way of presenting the key information you want immediately and allow easy access to the detail if that's what you want.

  42. Ainsley Jones-avatar

Used to be able to set your actual location as oppose to somewhere a few miles away as on previous versions you could with a drop down box. Other than that this is my go to weather app.

  43. Gareth Cozens-avatar

This used to be a great app. What's happened? It's now seems to be frequently off the ball and I cannot use it for day out planning any more. Shame because I've trusted it for years!

  44. Jim Fox-avatar

I like this app as it is fairly accurate and gives a good indication how likely my solar panels are going to work. This allows me to judge how much electricity I might save using washing machine, dishwasher or tumble dryer when they are being powered by solar energy.

  45. Carl Martin-avatar

Finding the app not so acurate, I'm sure it used to be better! for instance, when it's forecast dry it rains sometimes and vice verser, the weather app changes suddenly to keep up with whats happening out doors I notice, not good at forecasting for a couple of days in advance as the weather changes......

  46. Richard Warsinski-avatar

    Richard Warsinski

Just downloaded the BBC weather app about three days ago so I can't really comment. But I have got the met office weather app just comparing. The BBC weather app is better laid out I mean more colour full the met office app is a good layout but met office app is accurate.

  47. Angela Claridge-avatar

    Angela Claridge

Always have this on my phone. One of the apps that gets put on with every new phone. Though sometimes you can't look at a place and the weather till your there, if that makes sense.

  48. Joanna Stradling-avatar

    Joanna Stradling

Confusing, this app used to be great now it shows a sun symbol and 13 degrees every day even though the screen darkens to let you know it's cloudy. This app clearly has major problems!

  49. Wer Ban-avatar

The weather app is really good. The temperature shown on the app is exactly the same outside. I know it because i have a temperature stick outside.

  50. backyard boredom-avatar

    backyard boredom

If you live in England, it's best you download it. It's useful and fairly easy to use but it doesn't have much accuracy. it's reliable (mostly) and good if you want a rough guess

  51. Alan Naismith-avatar

Generally very good but widget disappointing. If the 'BBC Weather' banner was removed there'd be room for some next hour details, temperature and likelihood of rain for example.

  52. Steve Groome-avatar

Not always accurate, even for local weather. As someone who works outdoors, motorcycle instructor, it's very important to know what weather I'll be riding in. Too often the app/BBC website predicts good/dry only for a rainstorm of biblical proportions to descend on me.

  53. John Donald-avatar

Very good weather app with information clearly displayed. The only improvement I would like to see is the wind speed shown in knots as like many others I am a keen sailor and only knots make any real sense. Otherwise brilliant.

  54. Handy Fix-avatar

Winds speeds and descriptions need to be aligned. Very heavy winds being described by app as moderate breeze. App used to be reliable. Please address above or remove app from store.

  55. Sylvia Driver-avatar

Earlier this month overnight temp forecast 6 degrees and for 2 or 3 nights there was a sharp frost and we lost plants! At least twice, including last night, we had much needed rain showers without any mention in forecast.

  56. Elizabeth Bowley-avatar

    Elizabeth Bowley

Clear & accurate. Easy to use . I have been using this app every day for years. Reliable info when deciding whether to hang the washing out on the line.

  57. Brian Wilson-avatar

Excellent app. Covers more than uk. Enter placename and see current weather for now and 5 days on. Or set location and have weather for your location wherever that is.

  58. Richard Lee-Heung-avatar

    Richard Lee-Heung

Good info and quick to load, if inaccurate, it's not the app's fault. Nicely laid out and easy to use.

  59. Evie Rose-avatar

It used to work better but every so often it does not show any weather - "Your forecast is not available, please try again." It stays for days and then it is ok. Sadly now that seems to be a default state, the app has got all the permissions for location etc yet doesn't show data until I manually open it and refresh each location (even several times a day). I've been using it for years and this problem has been the same on different mobile phones but what used to happen rarely is now permanent.

  60. Alan Evans-avatar

Go to app for accurate local weather forecast. The hourly breakdown is a useful feature to help with any plans for the day. Advanced severe weather warnings for the area are another great help.

  61. Jon & Jan Bates-avatar

Does what it says on the packet. Can help with specific forecasts for places around GB. Only one small disadvantage it doesn't always open on my home town. Otherwise very pleased with it Thank you.

  62. Alex Gilbert-avatar

Love it. Simple to interpret and usually correct. First thing I look at each day. Much more detail available if needed.

  63. Bud Fox-avatar

Very intermittent that the widget will work without having to open the app first. Often reports 'local forecast unavailable' which for central London is a bit baffling.

  64. MR MP-avatar

older version worked better remembered my location new version has to find it over and over again. Well Done BBC, a backward step installed the latest version and still the same problem with LOCATING on my screen. Then when it finally shows the weather my location is all only partially shown and the 'Update a moment ago" only shows the U. So have uninstalled snd using v3 which is working fine OLDER VERSIONS WORKED BETTER AND REFRESHED QUICKER.

  65. Malcolm Graham-avatar

The widget doesn't work since the last update. I don't want my home screen constantly showing 'current location unavailable' so it's gone. It was otherwise good. Update 28/4/20 It seemed to improve, but everytime I move location the widget doesn't auto refresh.

  66. Graeme McLeish-avatar

Worked well transparently on home screen widget but the major factor to change is to show CURRENT temperature across wider time period, say 07-21:00, rather than present parameters which only show max/min temp in widget at either end of this period.

  67. Dewa Gelinjang-avatar

I would happy to say this weather app is 95 % accurate. I am a gardener living in rural Devon; accuracy of upcoming frost or rain forecast is very important.

  68. Richard Matchett-avatar

Excellent for a quick check before you nip out, I run the met office weather next to this if I want to be extra sure. But would certainly recommend this app.

  69. Veronica Phoenix-avatar

    Veronica Phoenix

It can be relied on for forecasting the weather and because of that it does influence what I do, for example, high gusting wind forecast I secure the glass patio table, frost I cover vulnerable plants, poor air quality I make sure I am carrying my asthma puffer. Great service

  70. Paul Newson-avatar

Logical layout. Very easy to navigate, unlike another I have used which defies all logic and seems to be deliberately obtuse! Well done BBC.

  71. Tom Turner-avatar

A useful assistant in determining what our ever-variable weather is intent on throwing at us. Right on more occasions than it is wrong, so that can't be bad, can it?

  72. Laura Bojangles-avatar

    Laura Bojangles

Love this app! I've tried several different weather apps over the years - they were generally clunky, messy re layout, and often riddled with annoying ads. They were also frequently inaccurate re forecasts. This app has a simple, clean design making it very easy to use. No annoying ads, and pretty spot-on re forecast accuracy. Very happy with it.

  73. Wild Heart-avatar

For me, there is no other Weather App to touch this, but with one nagging reservation. I have several places, both in the UK and abroad "saved" in order to check the weather in those places. Recently, I've noticed that the App refuses to open in My Location, but opens in the first one on my lists of saved locations. I can find no way of sorting this out so that it opens automatically at My Location, other than deleting all of the others. What I have to do is tap an icon, in the top right hand side of the screen, or swipe up to get to My Location. It's a minor inconvenience, but it is a pain and I've conducted a search in order to see if there's an answer to this issue and also contacted the "Help" option, but going by past attempts to contact the BBC, for help/advice, my expectations of getting any sort of cogent response are lower than low! 😉 That said, I'd still prefer to have this App than some alternative plagued with Ads! If anyone has an answer to this issue, I'd be more than grateful for any advice. Other than that...BBC, or whoever is responsible for the App..PLEASE sort it out! 😉

  74. Sarat White-avatar

Hi, a useful site to ascertain what to wear when walking the dogs or wishing to play golf. Seems to be accurate enough to make a reasoned decision. The main app to use for a quick and easy solution.

  75. HandyAndy2306-avatar

Excellent! Simple, fast, accurate, direct from the source of all weather information WITH NO ADS.

  76. John Hicklin-avatar

I've always referred to the service and found it generally to be reliable. I feel that it has improved again and become even more accurate over the last twelve months.

  77. J C-avatar

Day's summary / temp doesn't update, unless I do it manually. Detailed info works fine. Weirdly, I uploaded similar review yesterday but it has mysteriously vanished.

  78. Kerry Davies-avatar

Easy to access. Easy to understand icons and always pretty accurate forecast for days in advance. First thing I look at to plan my day.

  79. Keiron Casey-avatar

works fine for weather, BUT drives me totally nuts wanting me to turn on location services! this tablet doesn't have them. The UI seems to have been designed by a marketing moron. doesnt remember choices either.

  80. Kate Dobson-avatar

Seems pretty reliable, over quite a long time. Used to think the met office was more accurate but now BBC weather is more often right.

  81. Jamie Seeley-avatar

In general very good, but if my phone doesn't have data for more than 2 hours it expires and won't let me see the weather it saved from 2 hours before. Useless until I have data back.

  82. Simon Lord-avatar

Useful as a backup and alternative view to the Met Office app but the glaring omission is past and forward look weather/rainfall maps, without which you can't get a reliable picture of what might be coming. The desktop site has them so why not the app?

  83. Audrey Banks-avatar

It's mostly accurate. Sometimes it says one thing on the weather news on tv and a different thing on the app?

  84. Keith Wilson-avatar

Love the app, but only 4 stars because since the release of Android 10 it has a lot of trouble updating the location, even though it has all the permissions.

Whilst the widget is still showing the weather, when you click on the widget or open the main app it just shows a blank light blue screen. Completely pointless and useless now. Will try other weather apps.

this app is good on my lap top very good. it also tells you more bout the forcast and the weather for the next following day. 10/10. :)

Very easy to use. I like to see what the weather is like where I'm travelling or where friends and family live and that is really easy to set up.

I have always used BBC Weather. It is reliable to the others detail is clear. And you can see other places that my family are in to see if they have worse weather or better then we have.Thank you

Quite good but a lot of the time it differs a lot when compared to our area as shown on BBC TV weather.

Not very accurate at times , and if that annoying message for turn on your location made any difference to the weather information , instead of tracking where you are . That would be worth an extra star .

As with any forecast, the shorter the range the more accurate it is, but the BBC weather app is reliable enough to know what to wear the following day/s, and to plan outdoor events. The further ahead the forecast, the chances of it being 100% accurate obviously drop, but I plan all my outdoor stuff with this app! Treat it as 'Ice - slush - water': tommorows weather is 'solid (ice), the following days are slush (may change slightly), but after that it may be 'fluid'. An app I wouldn't be without!

Is currently not functioning well. For local weather and for some hours now the app states "Your forecast is not available Please try again". Strangely, non-local forecasts I can view.

This app seems to have a fairly tenuous connection with reality. Forecasts are very inaccurate - especially since the change to Meteo. Avoid and install the Met Office weather app instead.

BBC weather is a good way to get up to date weather my husband and son use it to check for when they go fishing and it's accurate very good easy to use and the app is easy enough to use keep up the good work

The app is fine. The Widget is a most useful aspect. Sadly it does NOT work with Android 10. It needs access to GPS for location. Currently permission is only granted when the app is being used. Developers need to change this under Android 10 to allow 'access always' because the widget is, by definition, a background task. Hence only 3 stars.

Straightforward to use and clear to read (although the % rain and symbol don't always match. but this might be my misinterpreting things)

  97. Edmond Bourke-avatar

Not always accurate. For instance, last Saturday it was saying that it would be dry and mostly sunny and we had showers

Seems quite accurate in short term but further than one week ahead much less. Very irritating request for location as I need to switch off to preserve battery

Useless app. Forecast changes hourly and is totally unreliable. You're better off reading tea leaves or just guessing what the weather will be like.

The claimed accuracy is misleading. There is questionable meaning in the difference between, say, 1% and 2%. In a chaotic system such as the weather this accuracy is impossible. Saying that the probability of rain is 'less than 5%' or 'less than 40%' is much more meaningful. The daily summary, particularly the maximum and minimum temperature, often does not match the maximum and minimum forecast temperature. Better data from the Met Office that was more useful.
