The app mostly works. My Team News does not display when I customize the app on my Galaxy S20 Ultra. The app says check internet connection. If you call yourself a world leader, I find it hard to take you seriously when I see lazy development such as this. Throwing fake error messages (catch all messages) that have nothing to do with the issue and in effect blaming the user/device (not cool). My Internet connection is just fine thank you. You fix your buggy app. Other than that, we good

  2. Simon Pelham-avatar

    Simon Pelham

I used to enjoy this app, however the loud advertisements are awful. I'm quietly reading news and then all of a sudden I've woken up the whole house with some awful blaring music playing from an advert. Would not recommend that as a way to start the day.

  3. S K-avatar

    S K

Full screen video ads with sound suddenly popping up makes for a bad reading experience. It is made worse that there is no way to dismiss or mute the ads immediately either. Ads play loud music dispite volume adjustments on phone.

  4. Lorain Yocky-avatar

    Lorain Yocky

I get more accurate and timely news from the BBC on what is happening in my own country than the domestic reporting of (self-)Trump(et blowing) conveys. Even more now than before #46 himself had to be hospitalized.

  5. Jim McClure-avatar

    Jim McClure

Was a good thing. Bias was easy enough to spot and ignore. Then they filled it with pop-up autoplay ads that play at full volume no matter your settings. No thanks.

  6. Dusty Pendleton-avatar

I have always held the BBC in high esteem and this app carries that same, no nonsense presentation of news and facts in an easily navigated site.

Good better than average App and very good journalism but frustratingly not always able to access same day articles seen on laptop even with use of the search function.

  8. Fluffy Raptor-avatar

Total agenda driven bs. It borders between opinions and one particular side's talking points. Actual journalism is dead, they just spin facts to fit their narrative, like very one else. Uninstalled

Love the links to side stories. Very informative, which is why I installed the app, in the first place.

I use to trust BBC News as trying to present a balanced veiw, Now it appears BBC Anti-disinformation unit is not doing it's research....and pedaling disinformation? So sad. App deleated.

BBC does not provide live streaming on the mobile application and website.

Extremely left wing bias on all aspects of global news. Very disappointing to any middle to right wing normal people who expect news to be of an independent non political nature.

  22. Matthew Walker-avatar

Autoplaying video ads with sound is unacceptable. These have recently appeared when scrolling between articles. My setting are set so that no video should be Autoplaying. Otherwise, the app itself is generally pretty good but ironically, from the US I've never had great luck getting video content to play (that is, if and when I want it to.)

  23. Marc M-avatar

This was my default news app for years, but I'm finally uninstalling it. For one thing, the app widget doesn't update the news properly on my Galaxy devices. The bigger issue, however, is that the bias of the news coverage is often quite glaring. Even when I agree with the authors' sentiments, I find it exhausting and demeaning to read constant pieces designed in their tone and content to influence readers' understanding of the news. Tell me what's going on and let me decide how dumb Trump is.

  24. A Google user-avatar

    A Google user

I love the App, the service and the content. But the frequent crashes of the widget is annoying. Everytime the widget, the favorites need to be reconfigured. Everytime the widget crashes, a channel goes missing. I hate the fact that they have limited the number of channels / news tabs on the mobile as compared to the tablets. Tablets offer more compared to phones. I have always wondered why. Still no hope for the widget.

  25. KT KR-avatar

    KT KR

I've been using the BBC app since the first time i got a smartphone and through all these years it's been one of my go to apps for news. Over the years the in-app advertisements have been increasing and they weren't much of a problem and they were tolerable. However, these ads have become more intrusive in nature and they are linked to shopping apps that I use, added to this are the full screen pop-up ads that I can't close. This was the last straw, bye bye BBC I won't be missing you.

  26. Richard Affeldt-avatar

App works great. Appreciate the good content.

  27. Ron Bardell-avatar

    Ron Bardell

Ads are annoying because they move what you are reading off the screen. You have to fight the ads by scrolling back to what you were reading. If the ads were stationary and appeared naturally as you scroll, I would actually read them, instead of cursing them. Not a good ad buy if your target customer is hating them. On the other hand, the news content is good.

  28. Keith Allsebrook-avatar

    Keith Allsebrook

When I tap on an item it sends me to another page (not the one item selected). If I select the same item on the new page displayed then it just shows the same page again. I feel trapped in a continuous cycle and feels like I cant get out. Please fix it. I am using Android on a Samsung phone.

  29. Economist Reader-avatar

    Economist Reader

After installing version 5.14.0 of this app, I have a problem. The change of font size in my device settings does not affect the app's font size. As a result, the app's font size is quite large and not easy to read, I am unable to change this. Please try to fix this, I wish I hadn't updated. From a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablet, android version 7.0.

  30. Wayne Yeo-avatar

    Wayne Yeo

It works effectively. It does not crash, which means the coding was done carefully, with attention to detail, more specifically memory management! When an app catastrophically fails, that is sloppy coding, sloppy testing. This app does what it is supposed to do, Deliver the news !

  31. Mike W-avatar

    Mike W

My go-to news app. I only have two complaints. One is the videos are extremely glitchy so I dont even waste my time trying to play them anymore. Two is they got rid of the multi-language feature a long time ago. I used it for maintaining foreign language skills and have been patiently waiting for it to make a comeback...still waiting

  32. Sally-avatar

Last update keeps causing the BBC app to crash or not open up entirely. My phone is the newest of the Blackberry (Keytwo) that I just bought back in December so the problem not how old my Android is. On a side note, BBC has been a little disappointing lately. The style of journalism changed sometime within the last year or two and now they have a very subjective writing style that I find distasteful.

  33. Jubel D'Cumpiano-avatar

    Jubel D'Cumpiano

Great news. Unfortunately, a lot of the videos are "unavailable" to be play in the USA. 2nd review: Still the same 3rd review: is a great source of news. However, now some videos and images are "unavailable" to be play or show in the USA. And apparently BBC News don't give a ...., been this my 3 review thru the years.

  34. Domo Agricola-avatar

    Domo Agricola

Really like the quality of news reporting. My major complaint is that the video performance is very erratic. Video clips fail to start for many 10s of seconds in some cases and never at all in others. I have an excellent IP connection and other apps have no problem at all. That's most unfortunate.

  35. Nicholas Mahy-avatar

    Nicholas Mahy

I often find the BBC is slow to publish items of breaking news, compared to other online news outlets. Also, these days the BBC news editors seem to be protective of the UK government, in not reporting full facts that might be seen as damaging to the government.

  36. G3 Moore-avatar

    G3 Moore

Very acurate very brief truth news with active follow up.

  37. Juan Claudio-avatar

    Juan Claudio

I have always enjoyed the BBC and having this app while traveling allows me to review the top stories as I go. If I want to dig deeper to read more stories, I can. I only had regret early on when I was unable to view videos on this app. It required another app to do so, but that was solved easily.

  38. Minos Vogel-avatar

    Minos Vogel

This app is well structured, easy to use and keep me well informed of what is happening around the world. I like the main page with its breaking news ticker. It's also nice the fact that you can swipe right to left to move the story bar in the individual areas. Definitely my favourite news app.

  39. Gordon McIntosh-avatar

    Gordon McIntosh

At best the BBC can be described as liberally biased. After reading the ridiculous story by Nick Bryant on the defining moments of Trump's presidency, I thought maybe some education was in order. 1. Trump supporters don't expect every campaign promise be met verbatim, they expect the candidate fight to achieve the promises. 2. Trump has already accomplished the most profound changes demanded by, appointing conservative judges to the bench.

  40. Soutrik Das-avatar

    Soutrik Das

Needs some updated tech. I found content of interest, but surprisingly, no stream or Chromecast options on the Android app. Is it me or does BBC not have any stream to tv options? Makes it that much less intuitive to use. Most essentially, the 'live' portion should be back to back videos, not just audio.

  41. Roberta Schueler-avatar

    Roberta Schueler

BBC reports news on a broad range of subjects, and is not limited to English news. It is among the least - fake news - sources I can find. Reporting is balanced and I appreciate the depth of information included in news articles. Links included for more information on news topics.

  42. Gheorghe Sandor-avatar

    Gheorghe Sandor

The app has seen better days (I am using it for years). The ads get in the way of reading and it is very easy to touch and open an ad by mistake. This is very annoying. There are also too many stories in the front section, which are not really news.

  43. rex t-avatar

Accurate and unbiased news delivered on time .The layout, photos, graphs and videos are very professional and clear .It is indeed a pleasure to go through the BBC News without any technical hitch at anytime . I've been using this app for sometime and I've never been disappointed .

    Keith Ross-Jones

Got worse over the years. Tons of adverts and videos that interrupt and get in the way in a major way. Content does not change much and some sections don't even show thumbnails any longer. Hardly use it now which is sad as it used to be very good.

  45. Wing Chung-avatar

Last update broke the app on my Blackberry Priv (Android 6.0.1). Have to give you a one-star because it doesn't even open any more. Top rate journalism crippled by poor software engineering. It pains me to downrate BBC like this. Fix it guys, and I will change my rating accordingly. You can do better. In the meantime, I'm switching to a different news source.

  46. SMJ-avatar

BBC used to have 'balanced' reporting. Now it is purely antiChina. It seems to be a mouthpiece for the Trump administration

  47. Ugo De Maio-avatar

Good layout and user options - real shame that every time my tablet rotates, I systematically loose track of where I was browsing through my news feed. This is very irritating unfortunately - please consider fixing in future releases thanks. A night mode (dark interface) would be great too for night time reading !

  48. Joe O'Neil-avatar

Ads became to overwhelming to continue to use this app that I have used for many years. Swipe, an ad loads instead of the news you were swiping to; try to tap a story, an ad pops in unexpectedly and gets clicked instead. Such a poor user experience for a good news source.

BBC allways provides first hand authentic coverage, Not only does it cover almost all aspects of Life political, social, economic but also tries to create unbiased awareness about different cultures, gender issues, the burning environmental issues. Thus one can say holistically covers our planet " Mother Earth".

It seems funny but I seem to get better news overall from the BBC than I did from any of the news networks or publications here in the United States. They seem to take a different approach in slam both sides equally. I do enjoy it and it does have good world news.

WEIRD ! ___ You'll need to install a new Home Screen icon/shortcut (remove the old one & add the updated icon to your Home Screen) due to the most recent version, 5.14.0, of BBC NEWS. For some reason the old icon can not be used & displays "Permission Denied", very odd.

  52. Lawrence Amaloo-avatar

Presume you are asking about BBC News. This works fine, but I do not get any photos on the items on BBC Future for some reason or other! Did send an enquiry a few weeks ago to BBC Future (via Contact on Installation) on this & so far no reply...! Very poor (non) reply or attention to this enquiry.

  53. Jim Plunkett-avatar

Was a great source of news, until recently when it simply fails to open with "Permission Denied" message, for no apparent reason. Google Play also now indicates that it is incompatible w/all my devices. update: Uninstalled/reinstalled, now seems to work.

Excellent US & International news reporting. I look to the BBC for most of my news because they have been reporting worldwide much longer than any other agency and seem to do so with less bias than any other agency. They have depth of experience that no one else can come close to duplicating.

Continuous eye popping annoying commercials. While reading, a commercial will pop up and you have to adjust your eyes. It's a good news site, but requires a lot of stressful work. This has changed my opinion of BBC news. They have become annoying.

  61. MotoWanderer-avatar

I've been using BBC app for the past 8 years and in 8 years they haven't managed to make a simple app that actually works. On iPhone, it would freeze, would update stories, and crash. On Android it's even worse, everytime you read an article and go back it takes you to the top of the start screen. The content is why I put up with it but the app is beyond garbage.

  62. B Robertson-avatar

    B Robertson

BBC News with a liberal /democratic bias. Sad. To be honest there are many news agencies that seem determined to influence their readers vs informing them. I thought BBC was going to be more neutral but sadly not. They seem to focus on anti conservative stories and write favorable stories for the democrats and especially Basement Biden and his many dementia gaffs. Will be uninstalling this rubbish. Wow Britain bad teeth, hair and now news reporting. Lame AF.

  63. B S-avatar

    B S

I don't think I've ever encountered any app developer that works so diligently to break their own app. Now the last 4 tiles in the widget don't load and the corresponding stories in the main app are blank. This is very similar to a problem from several years ago. Well done BBC! You recreated history! No doubt this is one of the "regular improvements to the BBC News app" that they speak of.

As always, BBC is quickly responsive to world events and it's reports are clear, uncluttered and fair. I've been listening to you for almost 90 years and, although you have moved with the times, you have never deviated from your basic principles. I do appreciate that.

  67. Ty Davis-avatar

    Ty Davis

The BBC is one of the world's most reliable sources of information about the world and may be the world's best news presenters. I especially like its stories about quirky Brits. That said, they are subject to Britain's outdated laws regarding the privacy of individuals accused of capital crimes. (I have no problems with privacy in nearly all civil matters.) Consequently, only four of five stars.

  68. Peter Zuidema-avatar

    Peter Zuidema

It took me a while to find a news app with real journalistic content (not blindly copied from other unverified news posts) with a true independent and unbiased view and preference. It is a huge add that the BBC journalists in all the major articles readdress what has been going on with clear, correct reporting to prevent popularism and mixup with any incorrect posts. Their own fact checking team is a solid addition to the news reporting as well. So, in the end, I landed on the BBC news.

  69. Jesse Eloranta-avatar

My go-to source for international news on the go. Always well presented and professional, with plenty of topics to choose from. No intrusive ads or annoyances, just pure and good news, as it should be. The app works well and is clearly something they endeavored to make easy to use and simple while not holding back what you're looking for.

  70. Nomadic BongB-avatar

A fantastic news app, but keeps on getting stuck. And it does not have an option of dark background theme which would be really soothing for the reader's eyes. Content wise this is the best news app.

  71. Derek-avatar

Pros: Good journalism, balanced viewpoints, ads are not intrusive. Images can be individually zoomed, which is appreciated. Cons: Coverage tends to be northern hemisphere focussed. Not much from Africa or South America. Some articles are web links, which sometimes lead to insightful articles, but generally are much more superficial than their titles suggest...hence a waste of time (and slow to load). Delete a star for that. Too many videos without meaningful journalism text.

  72. Dan Riddick-avatar

    Dan Riddick

Fantastic world-wide reporting with a barely noticeable slight bias. Being from the US, In my years of reading articles from various sources, the BBC is one of the few that regarly represents both sides of a given story (if sides could be taken). We need more news sources like the BBC.

News selection and presentation is very left leaning(and progressively getting more so). Often seems more like activism than journalism. Seemed to be much more neutral and nuanced app in the past. Honestly feels like hard to just get News unfiltered from any source at this point(regardless of view point), and the BBC News is now indistinguishable from any left wing news source. Very disappointing.

Have had it for a while and it is very good. My only problem is that certain stories don't load sometimes. Doesn't happen too often, though.

This news app was great before with (what I feel) minimal bias. But in the past 2 or 3 months it has become HUGELY biased and I am very disappointed with it. I think there is something going on internally within the organization - polarized one way. Look elsewhere for real unbiased news. That is quite the challenge these days.

Used this app for years, unfortunately it's being uninstalled for another news app. Why? Because most news items now force you to watch the story via video links instead of reading the text. That's ok if you're in a quiet room by yourself, but not when you're in a room with family and they're watching the TV. Poor foresight in my opinion.

  92. rk6200-avatar

Articles on health, technology, environment etc are very good and informative however, many country-specific news items are based on information available with one reporter, who most of the time chooses the source of information as per one's own biases and one's convenience - they probably don't try and listen to both sides of the story either because of biases or to avoid putting in adequate effort to get to the root/ truth. The biased articles adversely affect the thought process of many.

BCC rates with the very best news apps. One of the few news outlets that covers the news world wide and makes the effort to go into detail in order to assure that its readers have excellent in depth reporting 😀

Works well and has good reporting, but some visual articles need another app to watch which is frustrating. Also, New Zealand is not in Asia. It's a Pacific Island.

The lending tree ads in this app can not be closed when they pop up. The app has to be forced stopped and restarted before any more articles can be seen, and then after 3 the cycle repeats.

No live video feed outside of the UK because why would the rest of the world care about news from somewhere else, right?? News is slow to update on this app and new stories seem to post only once a day or so. The one feature I do like however is the breaking news alerts, they are quick and are for appropriate breaking news. Otherwise if you're not paying for a UK TV license they don't want to show you the news.

The app is very nicely buit. I really enjoy using it, additionally; it has become one of the essential apps for me. However, there are some bugs in it, namely, play pause does not work with headset in live videos and auto resume live news also does not work automatically.

I find that in the app category BBS is the best among the leaders of the global news industry. User-friendly and compelling interface, constantly updated content and an abundance of video and photo materials. And of course, an independent and very balanced point of view.

Always first choice for morning's reading of events. One of the few news organizations in the world -- right there with The Guardian -- to report the news without the pretentious addition of writers' interpretation of the news. News selection reflects considered and mature assessment of countless events presented in a logical and appropriate manner. The BBC understands we want complete coverage without wasting time predicting events in the future.

The ads are very intrusive and often inappropriate for the story. I am going to delete this app and get the news from the BBC website ad free. It would be acceptable if to Rxthe money earned paid for the over 75 licence fee.

BBC now just another rag. News stories became opinion pieces, often very wrong opinions. Maybe Trump is right about routine fake news! Took away a star, amateur journalists being managed by management that appear angry at being called out on false reporting. BBC has become England's New York Times. Good luck in long term survival.

With so many users, it's a pity that you do not deal with the bugs of this application. I have been using this on several devices over the years but the problems persist. Often the videos don't load or clicking on a LIVE story takes you to irrelevant content.

Great international look at the world. I wouldn't be the one to argue that the BBC has any less of there own agenda than FOX or NBC. But I do think that they have a good reputation for serious journalism. I feel like i get a pretty rounded look at the world from BBC.

I do not trust ANY American news source. BBC had good rating across the 7 or 8 websites i looked on for trustworthy news sources. I was looking for news without sensationalism and opinions, rather facts and good investigative reporting. I believe i have found that in the BBC.

Thanks for improved reporting. In general media had drifted. One of the very few things Trump helped improve. Media is reporting more objectively these days. Some still aren't there and so I hope you help keep your peers honest by calling them out. Credibility & balanced reporting is critical for democracy to thrive. Trump is distortion on steroids. Media distortion helped bring him and the likes of Fox to life. Was it worth it. A resounding NO.
