Reviews From google play store

I used to watch the BBC every day with this app. Have managed to briefly get it working a couple of times this month. Endless buffering...drops out...requires repeated sign in....won't I,m afraid it's Netflix and Amazon for me from now on. At least it works better than Sounds! Why do I pay for this!!!@

Would you consider adding an option for 'Audio Only Mode' ? - this would allow listening to TV programmes without the screen on for example, while driving or commuting and unable to look at the screen. - this would allow people to listen to TV programmes rather than just be restricted to radio programmes when unable to use the screen.

I used to download programmes to my Samsung tablet 10.1 to watch off-line as live streaming keeps pausing and pixellating to a blur. Now it tells me to check my internet connection when I try to download and get a failed message. I have spent literally hours checking settings and other thoughts on what could be wrong. I have concluded it is the app. Therefore it is next to useless...very poor; very surprised at you BBC!

It is a disaster on my new Nokia 7.2 Android phone !! I keep getting messages say the app keeps closing and then it won't open up. I am reduced to uninstalling it and then reinstalling it every time I want to use it. I've used the send feedback option that comes up with the error message, but have heard nothing back. Not happy with it but it's the only way I can watch missed programmes!

Wish I could give a 0 star but here's what happened.I downloaded this about 1 month ago to catch up on peaky blinders graphics were great loading was great and downloading was great but now it takes forever to let me in and I have great Wi-Fi and when the odd time it does it never downloads and when you watch something the pink circle of death comes up forever.

Can't pause live TV ! When casting to my Chromecast and playing live TV, the pause button just kicks you out, it doesnt allow you to actually pause. And you can't play program from the start when casting either ! Rubbish !

Really shocked and disappointed in I cant watch my programs because I need my data on!!! What a joke!!! This app should be for MOBILE DATA AND WIFI seriously back your ideas up your going to turn alot of people away!!! Really disappointed!!!!!

At first it was working fine, but suddenly yesterday it stopped working. And my downloads have disappeared as well as the option to download.

Now such a duller company ! I'm proud to be English and I thought the BBC were too ! ? While I'm so glad not to experience adverts, the BBC are obviously struggling financially, given the insesent number of repeats and uncreative new content thrust upon us. TV in general has become more and more less attractive to me, given the hermogenisation, dumbing down and distinct lack of creativity within most programme content. I looked forward to BBC at the weekend, now it's never worth consideration .

It works well but being unable to use external storage for cached videos is extremely annoying when there is little space left in internal storage.

The app has been great, being able to download has been handy when I'm not able to watch via WiFi.

It keeps on saying this content is not available and it is sooooooo annoying and it doesn't just happen once it happens every single time

Such an unreliable app. Honestly, no matter where I use this on whichever device, there are always clumsy streaming issues. Disappointing and frustrating. You would have thought that the BBC would nail this. I'm actually choosing to watch BBC programmes on other apps to avoid using this iPlayer.

Hard to load. Keeps dropping out. Buffering etc. Slow, and laborious. Become tedious to try to watch anything.

The main reason for the 2 stars is the downloading of programmes for offline use. My internet connection is generally quite good and stable, other media applications have no issues streaming or downloading content whilst I am using the internet for games or other streaming. Iplayer on the other hand, whether I am doing nothing or watching a film, will refuse to download a programme for offline use, and regularly fail the download (or be painfully slow! and then cut out).

I like how there no ads but i wish you keeped stuff on there like there no more line of duty. Bodygurd and more

Still no ability to download over 4G and queued downloads don't automatically start when WiFi becomes available! No ability to download a series (manually or automatically) No ability to choose SD Card Storage No quick rewind/forward buttons Tiny buffer so streaming via 4G stops at the slightest loss of signal. As a commuter this app is useless☹️ Come on BBC! You make some of the best content in the world and you're not short of cash - you could surely build a world class app, no?

I left a similar review about 2 months ago, and still I am having the same problem. It is practically impossible for me to download any video, !as it keeps saying to me that there is no connection, despite the fact that there is. At one point I really enjoyed the app, but until this change, I feel obliged to leave this review.

Excellent in every way. Not sure why bbc has created such a poor replacement with sounds app. Now i cannot use this app anymore as i cant get beyond first screen before it tells me that i need to use sounds app to continue. Why is bbc not being accountable for poor quality of sounds and is railroading customers to use something inferior. Feedback is not being listened to

Far, far superior to the atrocious BBC Sounds - iPlayer shows loads of programme-related information, for upcoming programmes as well as for those broadcast already. Excellent user interface. Extremely shameful of BBC to withdraw this application, leaving us with only the awful Sounds as a source of time-shifted radio programme listening.

It is really good to use when you have missed out on the show and it's a good litting

It's Ok to download programmes to watch later offline, however the browsing interface could be much better, for example going to entertainment category doesn't provide with all the programmes available. Only really useful if we already know what programme to look for and manually search for it. Needs improvement in my opinion.

Flashy and nice icons but downloaded to find BBC Radio 4 and Drama but cannot locate. My wish is to listen to a spread of programmes on a particular channel. This App does not seem to facilitate this way of listening rather push one to a narrow mode of listening. Forced to leave Tunein i cannot find the way of listening and appreciating or not liking what a channel offers. Less choice, sad, not better rather cliche.

Clear and easy to use, defaults to dark screen, no stutter when scrolling long lists, no pointless white space between items, simple to browse RADIO programs, no desperate attempts by the BBC to ram their "Podcasts" (just radio programmes trying to be relevant to the audience they are actively losing) down your throat even though there are hundreds of better tailor-made podcast apps, used to work with older generation devices, enabled access for all, fulfilled BBC's commitment to the public ⚰️

Hi Devs. Great work for fixing many issues with this app. One of the best apps so far, like hands down. A suggestion, Since smartphones are getting larger displays like the Samsung's Note 10 plus, iPhone 11 pro max and OnePlus 7 Pro etc... Could you please update the app so the videos can fit the whole screen not just half for smaller screen devices. This would actually make watching the shows more enjoyable. Thanks

Good content, great quality. Just one niggle. I download programs as I watch when on a rural bus journey. Often I go to watch them and it tells me the app isn't working because there's no network connection! That's why I downloaded them so please give us the option of going straight to downloads.

8 out of 10 times I boot this app up, I get "No network connection", which is frankly, ridiculous. I'm writing this review from the very device I have it open on. Netflix, no issue. Sky go, no issue.

Used to be great but unfortu lately since the latest update will not allow me to live stream or watch any downloads on my phone. Tried all troubleshooting options but doesn't seem to be anything my end and reading other recent reviews it seems I'm not the only one ! C'mon BBC sort it out please.

If you make Picture in Picture (PiP) available, DIRECTLY THROUGH THE APP, to enable continuous watching while being able to continue to look at websites etc. This would be a great help and improvement. Thanks. It (PiP) is available on the STV Player app, for example.

I used to love the iplayer app, for traveling it was fabulous to download programs, dont know what's happened but cant download anything now!!! Ive updated the app but still wont work. Absolutely useless now, you can only watch when you have internet connection, such a shame and no explanation of why so really annoying

Despite having programmes to watch off line saved to my phone ( Pixel 2 , Android 10), the downloads section on the app only becomes active when you are On-line! Kept getting network error. Was on a plane last night. Couldn't watch a thing.

Terrible it says it has sent an email so you can register but you do not get the email i would call it a wast of space get somethind better

What's up with the iPlayer? It won't let me download episodes as it it keeps telling me that I have no active internet connection. I have tried this at home and at work which both have working Wi-fi connections but still get the same message saying I don't have a connection

Used to be really good, now rubbish since they decided to remove many programs and make you pay to watch them on their 'BritBox' service, despite the fact as licence payers we have already paid a hefty fee, something which has apparently escaped the attention of those on the Management Board.......

Regular errors. Often fails to download programs, and for some reason still insists on having a WiFi connection for downloads... If I have unlimited data, why should the BBC care if I download on 4G? Could be so much better but error prone and not user friendly.

I am not sure what happened, but I was thrown out by last apt and had to down load format, which did like the see to be limited choices and down loaded things seem to all have listen or lose it tag.whils some drama is still listed for years.i never seem to get the range of programs on the radio.iy hard work to remove programs listed,as the keep being listed per show on ongoing list.terry prachratt is listed for few week, whilst Daphne de,seem to be longer than she been dead.

Live tv barely watchable via cast, playback here and there, since the update it has glitched, frozen and losses about 10 mins per hr. other streaming apps have no problem. Big mistake updating, now it cant even see the chromecast. utter rubbish BBC Wow new update and now totally unable to casr from the iplayer.. What rubbish BBC, try sorting out the fundements befire trying to add usekess features, your software engineers are messing it all up and are making it worse , FIX THE BUGS.

I was unable to view anything except a black screen so I uninstalled then reinstalled this app but it still had a black screen. I then saw a notice stating that Beta programme is currently full so I'm assuming that I cannot use it. I'm now wondering why I pay for my TV licence on Direct Debit.

i used to be able to open the app in offline mode and access my downloaded clips. Recently in the last 2 days I receive an error message in opening the app. Has anyone else experienced this too?

I don't understand why it keeps telling me that the beta programme - whatever that is - is full. It impossible to watch a programme on iplayer now and I can't update it. I've tried emailing the help but no help at all.

latest update has made an app that worked fine into an app that barely works. awful. cannot watch anything at all. sort it out please. terrible pointless app now. UPDATE still the app struggles to work, why hasnt this been fixed, it hardly ever works, so frustrating

Pretty good, I've not had any issues with it but it would be nice to have forward and rewind options as similar apps do. The channel 4 app has recently added that on so this would be a 5* app if that option could be added

It's quite frustrating that you can't control (rewind & fast-forward) a live show when casting this app on chromecast. This is something you really need to fix .

A really Brilliant and extremely enjoyable to use application for you to access great choice of programmes to watch it's easy to use and searching for a programme that you've missed or are interested in watching is a great way to unwind and enjoy great T.V. shows I've recommend this application to my family aswell as friends as it's a great application for you to access great choice of programmes and I have been enjoying the easy of use when your looking for a programme to watch Really Brilliant

I used this app to listen to radio 4 extra that seems to of been taken off...I can no longer listen via phone unless I install some other rubbish it me being stupid ? Can I not see it on the iPlayer? Or do I need to download the BBC media app ?

The inability to rewind a programme, or watch from start, that you're watching live while casting is ridiculous! I can do it watching on my mobile so why aren't we allowed to when I cast it? Needs addressing.

Since the latest update I am constantly getting no network connection on any of my devices which BBC iplayer are downloaded to. The app worked perfectly well before the update and it's one app which I use most

Quality content. Just one gripe which is there is no zoom option for my phones aspect ratio. Netflix, Amazon and YouTube allow scaling of the video for 21:9 (cinema) ratio.

Another example of if it ain't broke don't fix it. RIP radio iplayer. Worked well for me. Now, maybe too many eggs in one basket!!! Less inclusive, more productive.

The pixelation of iPlayer is abismol. There are some programs that you can bearly make out the pixelation is so bad. And it doesn't matter what devise it's on. Other TV apps don't do it.

I understand why you need a logon now (and I like to resume on other devices), but why do I have to type my details im every time I use iPlayer, why can't it just remember??? UNINSTALLING!

Shockingly bad when it comes to casting. No other app has this issue. Not even an update issue, just seems to be BBC rubbish as per usual and we're still paying a licence fee for this trash!

Simple, did what it needed, lovely app. So annoying it's been killed off for the monster that is sounds.

Can't play downloads since the last update. Update: Seems you actually can play downloads after the last update - BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE ONLINE ANYWAY!!! Kinda loses the concept of there being a difference between a download and a stream doesn't it?

Why has this vanished from Android TV? Completely without warning today iPlayer vanished from Android TV, making I can no longer use it on my Nvidia shield. That's quite pathetic.

Excellent app. I can save where & what I've watched. Subtitles are available for all the content. Never crashes. If only all the other hubs worked so efficiently.

Love it.. please dont change it like you did to the radio player.

Good overall but sometimes the subtitles are not on time with the programme they are either too fast or too slow

Obviously love the content, but the video compression is absolutely pants. You can't have programmes as dynamic as Strictly and not pay attention to this!

Excellent. But why are the subtitles so tiny and not resizable, almost unreadable on a 7" phone or even 11" tablet? 😲 On Windows they are great and resizable.

Good app. Lack of landing page, what's new, what you were watching let's it down fore me.

Does what it says on the tin and the added box sets and content availability over the old 30 days is a big bonus. Chromecast compatibility is great with quality higher than freeview in many use cases.

Downloads provided. For those of us without a good signal, unlimited data and no wifi !! I see you have changed.

None of my downloads play even when trying to watch them on WiFi. Anything downloaded as of last night just gets a pink loading circle 🙄. Looks like I'll be watching Ch4 on the way home...

Awful app. Used to work fine and now stopped working since bbc media was introduced. How disappointing.

This app used to have "Go to downloads" when it was offline. This feature has been taken away in the newest update meaning I can't watch downloads offline. Explain?

Horrible. I have been listening to BBC radio for years and am IT savvy but I can't find MyRadio... And all my favourites I have added to over the years

Good quality video, but the need to have wifi and not use data is annoying. Many mobile phone contracts now have unlimited data.

So when you leave the country you are forbidden to watch the TV that you are charged for, I object to paying for natonal radio stations, local radio stations, the world service etc via a TV licence, then find if I'm on holiday for two weeks my iplayer locks out!

Very handy for catching up with missed programs but a bit disappointing that you can't save to the installed SD card.

Fraking thing stopped working, says it has no connection. Deleted and re installed several times, even messaged bbc and had no response. Not Happy!!!

I am trying to watch something on BBC I player when I switch it on it says NO NETWORK CONNECTION cant get it on my SAMSUNG Tablet the thing is I always had it .....very annoying...

It really is about time the app adds the feature of a 30sec fast forward and a 20sec rewind! Using the whole bar is extremely fiddly and inefficient.

There should be an option to choose between download via cellular or Wi-Fi and not just Wi-Fi. Very restrictive in my opinion.

I like it very much. It enablesoneto catch up with programs one likes and couldn't watch when they are being aired.

Why is so hard to get it to cast to the tv? Netflix get it right. BBC need to up their game.

Whenitnworks it is great, but sometimes spends 5+ mins buffering, which is precisely what you don't want.

Can't install BBC Sounds. Many people will lose out when iplayer is removed. Not clever BBC! Why not leave it alone?

Another update, another pathetic change that now stops me from watching the news. Getting app to work is like trying to deliver brexit. If I had bought this from a shop, it would have been recalled before now. SORT IT OUT NUMPTIES

I would have given it 0 stars never works bbc iplayer is unavailable is the constant message i get when trying to load it get a grip bbc why do i pay my licence if your not providing everything im entitled to poor poor app

Will not let me sign in or use the app at all... service unavailable continuously. Samsung Note 9

Bring back, bring back, oh bring back iPlayer to me, to me... Bring back, bring back, oh bring back iPlayer to me. Ps... BBC sounds is like the worst!!!!!

We now have 4G / 5G with GB data allowances so why restrict downloading to when connected to WiFi? Many hotels have slower WiFi than my 4G !

Slow, unresponsive, pauses all the time. I've un installed and re installed so many times. Frustrating.

Much more useable than BBC Sounds. I actually set my phone date to before 25th Sept, just so I can use it!

Great game epically the adverts that are not there you can get lots of things including doctor who and not going out.

I cannot access I player radio. Have listened to Archers on I player for years but this new system is useless!

Finding the relentlessly pro-Conservative propaganda incredibly depressing. It's a poor state of affairs when the BBC act as the mouthpiece of the state.

This app isn't good for buying tickets. This app does make me happy. This app does not have disruptive ads.

Why is the bbc sounds app not compatible with a samsung tablet Cannot listen to any northern soul podcasts as app will not appear or be accepted Gave 1 star cos it won't let give none

The last question does it contain ads no because it the bloody BBC stupid bloody question dur hence why PAY FOR A BLOODY TV LISENCE TELL you can bloody tell goggle play store are bunch off yanks they can't even phase there questions right an clearly you don't even know what is the BBC or who they are pathetic.

Keeps saying no network but my signal is full ,can not watch anything i,ve missed on the bbc

Keeps deleting my downloads. Only way to get them back is to uninstall & reinstall, then download them again.

I adore this wonderful app and now the BBC is taking our tax money to create a poor replacement in the form of that terrible BBC sounds app. Just bring back this app you Pratts thousands love it so you are pissing off your own loyal audiences now

Randomly signs me out while im in the middle of watching a show. Very frustrating.

Have a BBC account, yet unable to sign in constantly told my password is incorrect

The signing in is annoying But overall its ok

I can't download the BBC iPlayer

Trying to use in holiday. Fails. Fair enough. But please teach your programmers to give human readable responses. Error code 5 is not a human readable response.

Works perfectly, both for streaming and downloading.
