Inicijativu o osnivanju vojnog sindikata  pokrenuli su u jesen 2012. godine, Predrag Jevtić sadašnji generalni sekretar VSS i Tolmač Duško, sada predsednik Skupštine VSS.
Sa grupom svojih kolega iz Sombora i drugih gradova Srbije, dana 27.11.2012. godine zvanično formiraju i registruju Vojni sindikat Srbije.
Sindikat je formiran sa idejom da bude zasnovan isključivo na volji svojih članova, nezavistan od poslodavca i drugih sindikata i institucija i da kao takav bude u mogućnosti da radi isključivo u interesu svojih članova, pripadnika Vojske Srbije i u skladu sa njihovim potrebama. Ovu ideju brzo je prepoznao i podržao veliki broj zaposlenih u Ministarstvu odbrane i Vojsci Srbije, zbog čega je Vojni sindikat Srbije počeo naglo da se širi po celoj teritoriji Republike Srbije. Ubrzo nakon formiranja sindikalne grupe Sombor, usledilo je formiranje sindikalne grupe Batajnica, zatim sindikalne grupe Kraljevo, da bi se se širenje Vojnog sindikata Srbije nastavilo po svim garnizonima i mestima u R. Srbiji gde obitava Vojska Srbije i njene organizacione celine. 
Dana 26.08.2015. godine, Vojni sindikat Srbije je postigao jedan od osnovnih ciljeva sindikalne borbe, stekao je uslov za priznavanje reprezentativnosti kod poslodavca kada je Ministarstvu odbrane i predat zahtev za njeno utvrđivanje. Nakon iscrpne borbe s poslodavcem, posle 7 meseci, konačno 30.03.2015.godine, ministar odbrane donosi rešenje kojim Vojnom sindikatu Srbije utvrđuje reprezentativnost kod poslodavca, čime Vojni sindikat Srbije i zvanično postaje prvi reprezentativni sindikat u istoriji Vojske Srbije. Danas Vojni sindikat Srbije broji preko 6000 članova organizovanih u više od 45 sindikalnih grupa na celoj teritoriji R. Srbije.
Po formiranju Vojnog sindikata Srbije, prvi njegov predsednik bio je tada potpukovnik Josip Čapo, na službi u Rečnoj Flotili u Novom Sadu. Ubrzo, a usled iznenadne teže bolesti, kasnije i prestanka profesionalne vojne službe, dužnost predsednika preuzima njegov zamenik Novica Antić koji se i danas nalazi na čelu Vojnog sindikata Srbije.
