Using the Varia app, you can: - Be alerted right on your phone when approaching vehicles are within 140 meters behind your bicycle. - View color-coded alerts based on surrounding traffic: Green means you’re all clear, yellow means a vehicle is approaching, and red means a vehicle is coming at you quickly and you should take caution. - Receive tone and vibration alerts for approaching vehicles even when you’re not looking at your phone. With a compatible Garmin Varia Rearview Radar Camera, you can also: - Set the camera in the best position for capturing videos and photos. - Record videos or take photos while riding with a simple button press on your phone. - Automatically record videos of incidents and save the video footage with the Incident Recording feature. By adding the Varia eRTL615 Rearview Radar Tail Light, you can: - Configure and edit light mode configurations for your tail light. Easy to Use Pairing your Garmin Varia device with the app is quick and easy. Once you set it up, the Varia app will automatically recognize your device. Excellent safety edition to my bike rides. I am 66 years old and is hard for me to turn around and clearly see what's behind me. Do not put all your trust into this device but it's supplements good riding habits. It seems to be about 99% accurate. A car could still pull out and hit you. But it seems to be able to distinguish that there are multiple cars coming up and moving at different speeds. The technology amazes me. Garmin does an amazing job

Today my new Varia 315 has turned off 📴 twice along my route. I figured that out when car passed me very close to me and that was very scary. I wasn't expecting my radar can be disconnected without any notice on my phone. Garmin app should make the Laud Alert\Sound to warn riders if that happened. So, we (riders) can be more careful on the roads. I'm very disappointed how Garmin engineers have missed this extremely important safety option!!!

I ride a lot on my own with a helmet mirror. This gives me a lot of confidence on what's coming up behind me and when all is clear. The range is fantastic and the light is very effective. A saddle bag mount would be helpful.

Works well but the RTL515 will only connect with one Android phone at a time. I use a Garmin Varia RDU2, which has inaudible sound in most conditions, and my wife uses an Android phone when we ride together.

Excellent app easy to use and great assistance while riding !

I trust it completely! Better than any mirror I every tried to use

It's great that there's an app that connects to the radars but there are two important ways that it falls short. 1) It won't connect to the RTL515 if the light is turned off (even if the unit is on). This is very annoying because there are lots of times I don't want the light on, but I do want the radar. I returned the RTL515 and got the RVR315 instead. 2) The sound is tied to the media volume. I often listen to music when I bike but I just use one earbud and keep the volume low so that I can be aware of what's going on around me. This means the apps alerts are also very low volume and I often miss them. They should include an option to link the sound to either media volume, or alert volume. I would choose alerts so that it's just as loud as when I get a text.

Nice unit works great for me. MAJOR fault is the warning sound is inaudible. With street noise you can't hear it and it only beeps softly once. It needs to beep louder and for a longer duration. Better yet let us set the sound we want to hear and for how long. That would make it perfect. GARMIN please fix this. I still like it in conjunction with a rear view mirror. art

Danger sound unaudible if there is noise arround, but end of danger perfetly audible. Does not run reliably when not focused, when connection is lost you don't know that. Some false positives, especially after stopping the ride. Some false negatives, aspecially when vehicle is right behid you or traveling at same speed. Depending on terrain, warnings can be very early, but can also be very late, just a second or so in advance. It can have trouble distinguishing vehichles traveling at same speed.

Silently looses the connection to the radar unit at least once per ride! After the connection is lost the radar shuts down and needs to be switched on again so that the app can connect again. This bug makes the app COMPLETELY USELESS and dangerous! How can you tell if just no car approaches from behind or if the radar was one again silently disconnected? A companion app for such an expensive device should just work...
