The volume on my Pixel 2 & Pixel Slate is barely loud enough to be heard over restaurant chatter. Doesn't matter which ear buds (wired & Bluetooth) or over the ear cans, too low. So yeah, maybe I have hearing loss but geez, the audio would be functional if I could raise the volume just a few more decibels. And for that, this app is useless. Unless I am missing it, this only amplifies microphone input. The UI is so basic there's little room for confusion. Useless.

I wanna say something...been looking for app that fixes headset issue when having an online audio chat. There was an issue with how I receive audio sound. Not sure if this app works for it or not, but when it's on if fixes my problem, audio works well on both ends now, so FINALLY IT IS FIXED!! And other features that works! FIVE STARS!!

  3. Ness64-avatar

Great app... But, of course, it's not that it "won't work" on bluetooth headphones, it can just use the phone's mic... But, they deliberately made it to NOT work on Bluetooth devices. Because companies (possibly some google partnered with, if any) selling overpriced Bluetooth headphones that can amplify ambient sound. They don't want you to get it for free. You have to settle on wired headphones or buy an overpriced wireless one to have this feature.

Hello Google Team First , I'd like to thank you for this wonderful app. It helped me to change my life a lot. I hear voices and people more clearly. But I'd like to use it without any wireless headphones, with no wired headphones( like Airpods) so it's easy to use. This is causing a lot of trouble for me. Thank you for your concern.

  5. 明けの明星サタン666-avatar

Was so happy to try this when I read about it. Instantly downloaded it, just to find out that you need wired headphones. And of course the OnePlus series decided to jump on board with the idiotic move to get rid of headphone jacks for NO GOOD REASON. 😂😂😂 As the phone has plenty of space to add it... But monkey see, monkey do. But since this is the fault of the phone manufacturer and not Google, I couldn't logically give Google a low rating because of this. #Google #Android #OnePlus

  6. John Blomberg-avatar

Doesn't work wirelessly. Unless you go out and buy wired earbuds (do the still make those?) you can't use the app. And if you do have wired earbuds, you can't put your phone at one end of a conference table and sit at the other. You have to sit near the speaker. Interesting that it's a crippled app trying to be accessible. Ironic.

It definitely makes a difference.. I love how clear it made my earphones when I turned them up. Love it!!! I have a note 10+ and it works perfectly.

  8. LORD Awar-avatar

Still absolutely no support with Bluetooth Devices even though less and less phones come with 3.5mm jacks or even an adaptor or USB C earbuds (IF YOU CAN EVEN FIND USB C HEADPHONES)!!!! Add support for Bluetooth ASAP!!!!

  9. Krzysztof Zimmermann-avatar

    Krzysztof Zimmermann

Why? For what? For who? I can't imagine how confusing it must be for people who actually need hearing aid. Google, it's your system, you should know how bad is the latency of sound on any Android device.

  10. Aarti Tuteja-avatar

Absolutely horrible sound quality when I have Spotify playing on my phone and taking a snap at the same time. I have a pixel 3 and it sounds so muffled and broken. Why is this happening?? Please fix.

  11. Tibi Tomulet-avatar

I followed instructions and set it up. It turns on and off. But it only works with the microphone. It doesn't affect my music at all. When I turn it on I hear the sounds around me and my music stops. I don't see the point. I have Android 8.

  12. Bryant Smith-avatar

Worked well at boosting ambient noise, but does not work with bluetooth earbuds. Also, I was hoping this would work to boost ambient noise so I could hear people around me when I had earphone in. It pauses and will not work when other audio applications are running.

  13. Prakash Sharma-avatar

    - 1Star. I don't know whether it is my microphone or the software. But it doesn't serve its purpose whatsoever. Terrible performance.

  14. shivng sharma-avatar

Not able to use it. Bcoz it takes very minor time to come our from my ear speakers.. delay of sound... M a musician i want to hear my dynamic(coming out from speaker) own voice while singing.. Wht i can i do.. in low budget.. i tried this but this was not that much usefull..

  15. William Tamblyn-avatar

    William Tamblyn

Doesn't work for me, I got it to work once and the sound was average taken my ear buds out made it much clearer. No wireless headphone support is such a dumb decision.

  16. Hail Hydra-avatar

Need more options i use a Bluetooth earphone and this app doesn't have support for it. This is really sad a company like google makes such apps where there is not much options for headphones. The devs should add the option for bt earphones as fast as they can

  17. Mohd Nizam Othman-avatar

It's applicable for noise cancellation during yr voice recording in Smule. Even not equal like external application e.g. sound card but still better than built-in before. I give full recommendation to install this application into yr android

  18. Arnab Karmakar-avatar

Excellent, but option can be given to increase the bass if required ( not always needed)

  19. chintan vyas-avatar

I must say that this is a very innovative Idea. Once it is improved further, you can actually help people with hearing disabilities, students, and the likes. Don't leave this one alone, keep at it.

  21. Abhishek Shetty-avatar

This doesn't save the amplified voice. Nor will in the call it is helping inspite of wired headset

  22. Rm Kennedy-avatar

It is not bluetooth compatible. This does work with wired headphones extremely well. But, I would like to see bluetooth compatibility to enable the ability of different headphones

  23. Vidit Malhotra-avatar

It was great at start but there are few irritating bugs, a continuous noise keeps coming out.

  24. Andre Christanto-avatar

    Andre Christanto

Works well. Would be better if the latency is lower and it automatically resumes when the music ia paused.

  25. Allie Merrill-avatar

Cant hear anything except high pitch noise when i move the headphones. No matter what i tried, its just loud noise! Boo!!

  26. galaxy note-avatar

Not working using Huawei P9+ with Android 7. Just high pitch sound. Adjusted all the noise controls and audio booster. Maybe the local PDE is not in the app.

  27. Judi Smith-avatar

Just needs an update so that it supports stereo microphones, as some phones has a mic both top and below like the Note 9.

  28. Marc Williams-avatar

Why does Google provide a non Bluetooth sound amplifier when their Pixels do not off a mini phone plug? And sorry, I do not carry around their usb-C adapter. Please advise a solution.

  29. Parth Mehta-avatar

It's quite a useful app. I wish it could be used while hearing songs so as to be aware of surroundings.

  31. Ganesh aditya-avatar

Its better to have the sound recording option. so that we can record the sounds.

  32. Rose Petals-avatar

Device mic option is not working. When microphone source is selected as "device mic" then there is no sound. Fix this.

  68. Emma-avatar

Doesn't detect my 3.5mm headphones at all

  69. Alex Olapade-avatar

Hey there. This app works quite well BUT I actually came looking for a noise cancellation app. People spend tons of money on headphones that cancel noise. If you managed to get even half the quality of some of the products out there, so I can achieve noise cancellation from my phone, I would happily pay $5-10 for that app. Is it possible to achieve this by reducing latency to sub 30 ms and phase cancelling? Who knows, might give you a whole new use for your app!

  71. Jeetendra Jagwani-avatar

Its of no use as a hearing aid for my Dad.. Its just a low end simple sound amplifier. And that too, you will hear all sounds 'Except the opp person's voice' . Because the app is by Google I was expecting quite a lot and maybe AI based engine. But ziltch. Absolute waste. Don't waste your time if you are wanting to use it as a hearing aid for anyone. Someone else reading this, pls recommend a good app if you have used it.

  73. pirate goblins-avatar

I like this feature since im hard of hearing but i wish i could use my wireless earbuds with this app!! It would make work a lot easier cause i can use it as hearing aids. I also would like to see speech be isolated and amplified on its own because thats what i need to hear more!! But otherwise this app is perfect!!

  74. Annalisa Rivera-avatar

    Annalisa Rivera

Like a temporary hearing aid for conversation. A reason to have a wired headphone. Pop on wired headphones, point the mic in the direction of what you're trying to listen to. Love that you can find tune per ear, but I think that this works best for listening to someone speaking to you rather than listen to the TV. It is a little weird to hear yourself a bit when you speak, but I think with continued updates, this has tons of potential.

  75. Laura Page-avatar

This app did not work with my phone and average earbuds. I couldn't even hear the person talk until the volume was up halfway on the slider. The vocal quality from my phone was terrible, too - the voice sounded very distant. In addition, there's a delay on delivery of the voice which is very disorienting when I'm looking at the person I could not judge the filtering ability because the basic sound I was trying to hear was so bad. There was also a delay between input and output - disorienting.

  76. Aashish Singla-avatar

*Could be a lot better.* I would hate yo criticize the developers at google who put hours/days worth of work in these kind of apps. BUT this sound amplifier app doesn't even work with Bluetooth devices and has such an minimalistic design, which is easy to use by the way but at the same time makes you lose on so much features such as an E.Q. for only ambient noise and the ability to use different devices for input and output. The potential applications of this app could dramatically increase.

Does not support Bluetooth Audio Devices such as Earphones to use for some Hearing Impaired, Like an enhanced audio communication for nearby people. (But not like a Radio Transmitter that even the others not far away in place can communicate [e.g. Neighborhood and Far Range Transmission within a same place])

  80. Mrinal Tak-avatar

    No support for bluetooth earphones

  81. Michael-avatar

    No change in loudness

  82. jelima 123-avatar

If the app worked properly it would be great. You have to plug in your headphones for it to work. The only problems are it picks up amplified sounds through the headphone mic and not the phone mic. I also had a hard time adjusting the amplifier and only understood what two of the three settings did. I have hearing loss and hoped this app could benefit my life. This is a great idea and has great possibilities but it seems like it has a long way to go.

  83. Piers Marsh-avatar

Can no longer use wired headphones on my phone. I decided to uninstall sound amplifier because I didn't really need it, since then I cannot use any wired headphones, the sound sounds like it's all out of phase. If I plug a speaker in it works fine, Bluetooth headphones also work fine. Tried reinstalling and making sure it's accessibility services were turned off, still didn't work. I'm probably going to have to factory reset my phone next.

  84. Matt Yeoman-avatar

A little too much on the feedback when wearing headphones and can hear myself a little too much but that is to be expected, but as a temp solution when I have issues with my hearing it's working well and I can hear people in my office again!

  85. James Bayley-avatar

I was really hoping Android would come out with something to increase volu8 of my music. The only thing that works is apple iTunes option setting to increase sounds. I am hard of hearing and have to use apple product to listen to music. I have done many searching for something that will work

  86. Seen Enkidu-avatar

Amazing application 👌 Useful and helpful 👍 Thanks Google 🤓

  87. jim smith-avatar

Completely useless! Doesnt work at all! Not even the slightest sound let alone any amplification! Samsung S7 - Maybe too basic a phone to work with?

  88. Ryan Egan-avatar

Need an option to change the frequency of voices. You can lose hearing in different ranges so being able to adjust the frequency of people's speaking voices would be great. Tested it out with family members with hearing problems. Not using the app was better than using it. Unfortunately no one was hearing any better using this. This could be a Samsung issue since I see other users having similar results. Running on a s9+

  89. Shahinur Islam-avatar

I would give it 5 star. But there is a single problem. Can't play through Bluetooth headset. Please add this feature. This application really help me when I'm riding a motorcycle. Wearing helmet I still hear surrounding sound, horns through this application. Adding Bluetooth headset will boost the feature furthermore. Keep on Google. 💙

Seems like a great app with lots of potential, but it doesn't seem to be able to use the device mic on a Samsung note 10 +, only the wired headphone mic will work. Is anyone else having this problem?

  91. Heidil Lowas-avatar

    Very good with head phones

  92. Paul M. Lurie-avatar

Even when loaded on Pixel 4 App doesn't show until turned on in Accessibility setting. Want to use with Made for Android connection with my hearing aid but can't yet. Look forward to an upgrade. Hope it is announced. I have not used the program so this review should not be viewed as negative. Not my intention but necessary to send this message.

great app. But it would be actually great if all the apps that was released with Pie version can be accessible for every people, by means of including users who aren't using Google Pixel phones or Android Ones. I'm personally using samsung s9+(dont buy it.. battery drains af) and currently satisfied with this app.. but still have some doubts with the other ones.. such as the "Digital Wellbeing". When is that coming to samsung?? I mean like devices with customed UIs.. plz make it *happen*

  95. NPC# 0091-avatar

First google app I rated 5 stars. BUT I have a request. In addition to sound amplifier, it should have noise cancellation as well. It can take input from mic and generate 'anti-waves' to cancel out the noise. No need for costly headphones. People can use it to sleep comfortably or study in noisy environments.

  96. Jonathan Putan-avatar

Can this be used with another app that requires the mic for audio input? My use case is like this - I use an app that requires me to talk a lot, and I want to use this Sound Amplifier app to filter out background noise and also to boost my voice so that I dont need to shout. Can this be done?

  97. Michael Ryan spinelli-avatar

this app even I gave it five stars because I'm sure some people have it working properly on their phone. It has never worked on my phone properly once. I have contacted support and still all it does is pop up to plug in your phone half of the time when I don't eat them I don't even have a pair. Your friend Michael's spinelli's family

  98. TECHNO STARTERS-avatar

It's just for people with bad hearing, not much benifit to normal person, rest depends on your mic quality, i know bluetooth has high latency, but you should add wireless headphones support and provide a note on screen like please use wired headphones for best experience and low latency

  99. Yusri Amilkassim-avatar

    Yusri Amilkassim

It work as in description... But theres a delay in sound amplification... It looks like it use wired headphone mic to record sound instead of built in mic on phone... Thats cousing the delay...

  100. G K-avatar

It is better than most of apps. If I use stereo mic. which is bigger than headphone's and can be attached on your dress and earphone with splitter jack thus this app can be used as hearing aid app. Small mic. Doesn't receive sounds from far as well as a human ear.
