Amazing app. I use it daily to message friends and family as well as copying over text, files and sounds from computer to computer via the Note to Self feature. Only complaint is that messages takes a while to load when using the desktop version, even when you have good internet. Edit: Loading is now way faster so I changed it to 5 stars Edit 2: I want to donate with my Google play money but I can't find a way to do that, can't really take off a star for that though.

  2. Kevin Rajee-avatar

app This app is good but I find it annoying in some cases. When I send a message to a friend, it won't get delivered if the person hasn't open the app yet even though that person is not offline. Also please allow the option to store sent and received images and videos directly to gallery, it would be easier if there's a way to turn on/off such feature. Sending photos and videos in this apps takes ages. I would definitely use this app in the long run if it improves. Please kindly take note of this.

  3. Hi Tech Dad-avatar

stickers I really like Signal's secure encrypted SMS / MMS format. It is user friendly, but may require patient acceptance of it's secure features such as having to periodically renter a pin number to verify identity (a feature that CAN be disabled). The full benefits cannot be realized unless your friends also use it, so it may be more exciting to some and less to others. With the free version you will be limited in some of its features such as being limited to one image sent power text. 2 thumbs up!!!

  4. Elva Dorsey-avatar

chrome I really do like this app. I like the ability to communicate with people on my desktop when I'm at work. I like the security features. The only reasons I didn't give it a five are: group texting seems to be a hit or a miss & when my kid is out of data range but not cell range we both have to default to the phone messenger & I dont get messages from people that use to have signal but deleted it.

android I thought I finally found it. But nah, messages didn't send to another person with Signal. The only way is, we both have to use internet and the other person with Signal to receive messages now? Welp, this is troublesome and fails sending messages during emergencies. I have tinkered both of our Signal settings, enabled and disabled some options many times, still messages didn't receive to the other person. The app is more useful to 1st world countries, that has continuous access to internet.

desktop windows 10 works pretty good besides this one big problem, and I've noticed it from my line and from the other persons line. Is when you are talking to someone and you get Another call from any - other platform; the person you thought you just put on hold to answer the other call - , that person can hear your entire conversation from you And the other person. Thats really messed up! please fix this problem

  7. Piers Whiting-avatar

wikipedia I have a similar problem to Elva Dorsey's (and, I now see, many others'). I can't get SMS to people who've had Signal but have deleted it and for that reason, I can't use it as a default SMS app, even though I'd like to. I've told the devs a while ago, but they don't respond.

  8. GQQDELL777 _-avatar

web Definitely a top favorite for texting apps, but I also agree it would be nice to have a few more customization options. But also the simplicity of the layout is nice. I like that I can set personal ringtones for each person so I can tell who texts me without even having to unlock my phone.

  9. Dev Anand-avatar

mac There's ample room for development, but I must admit, the app is simply minimalistic ( which i hope you keep it that way with future updates!). Please don't add a status option or something like that, Keep it simple. Try to make the customisation a little more user friendly and the chat screen require some revamps too. And the controls do need some color, they just don't look appealing yet.

  10. Simon Matthews-avatar

apple watch The interface is simple and easy to use. Main issue for me is that I have to physically log into the app to receive new messages despite notifications being turned on. Adjusting settings has no effect. As we are trialing this for work it is a major sticking point. Using an Asus ROG II

I had this 2 weeks and it has gone CRAZY. It kept resending the same message continually. I LITERALLY had to force stop AND uninstall to make it stop loop sending. Dont even know if thats a thing. By the time i went back to my previous messaging system. It had sent over 250 messages on a loop in abou 4 minutes. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS APP

  12. Pranjal Sharma-avatar

Really good for private and secure messaging. No complaints about privacy and encryption of messages. Things which aren't good is the user experience of the app like performance and smoothness of the app, it doesn't feel snappy. The UI and visual appearance can also be improved in order to look more appealing like icons, chat background. Lastly there should also be stories so that it can be more than just a chat app and compete with other services like whatsapp.

  13. Adarsh Gupta-avatar

The app does deserves 5 stars. There is whole lot of privacy in there. But there should be some improvements like, usernames should be launched. It becomes more anonymous and over that there is privacy. And the 2 Step Verification pin should be, ideally be for as long as the account is there. Imagine someone losing access to his phone and is not logged in elsewhere for 7 days or something untoward happens, anyone can just like that sign-up on the same number and access the data. No Signal pin.

  14. Ape Xavier-avatar

I love the features of this app but text messages do not get received. I cannot afford to miss messages. This has happened more than 5x on two different occasions. I dont have time to spend tweaking this app to fix the problem when it also seems to happen so randomly.

  15. Shaun Pearson-avatar

Possibly the best encrypted messenger there is. The video could use some work, but the voice quality is frequently better than the direct carrier option. If this aquisition rumor that is going around turns out to be true I'm switching this to 2 stars. -long time loyal signal user- devs? Care to comment? Back 5 months later. Ive heard onky rumors in the scene. I cant code well enoigh to audit it. Id appreciate a shoitoit from a dev sayin hey man we on your side still. Snowden even says so.....

  16. Radu Cebotari-avatar

Very good alternative to Telegram. Pros: >The connection quality is good >Video quality is top notch, even better than watsapp >Open Source client >Swipe right to reply (instead of swipe left like in telegram) > Can react to messages Cons: > forcing the user to enter the phone number > crops the image when making video calls ( I'm not sure if it's me, though ) > sound quality seems a tiny bit worse than watsapp > On some phones the notifications aren't shown (probably battery optimisations)

  17. Tnt2b Lucky-avatar

We still don't have the option to schedule messages to send on a later date. Also, signal keeps telling me that my messages are unsecured every now and then. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Note 8. And it takes forever to send pictures through now. That started yesterday. Thank you

  18. Chris G.-avatar

Used to be able to use signal with airplane mode on if I was connected to wifi. That stopped working about six months ago and Ive had issues ever since. Now signal doesnt send messages. Still trying to figure out what happened to this once amazing app.

  19. Haku A-avatar

A simple and effective app. I can't really speak to how good it security is since I haven't been compromised to my knowledge, but I hear that it is very good. And it's nice that it is not owned by some Mega corporation like most other messaging apps. It can be a little buggy sometimes, but it's only a minor inconvenience for privacy. Definitely a nice option to have this app. Thanks

  20. Jim Jones-avatar

Pretty good, overall. A little buggy at first, and when one of party does not have Signal. Texts not received at random on more than a few occasions. Regardless, it is a free app, and the technology is extremely valuable. Privacy today, is paramount. I consider this company to be an ally of the people, not just a company marketing an application. Bill Of Rights. Nothing more important at the moment.

  21. Dave P-avatar

DEVELOPERS: Please Read Dear developers, I think this program is absolutely amazing.... However, we need a few important changes. For starters, can you please move the microphone button at least a half an inch or an inch to the left so we don't accidentally click out of the app? Second, can you please show us how long voice messages are and allow us to drag and drop somewhere in the audio file a bit easier? In other words,if we grab it we can drag it and see a timer over it. Thank you so much!

  22. Quinn Quinley-avatar

Signal is the pinnacle of end-to-end encryption, and it's incredibly nice that it works for both signal messages and SMS messages, so I don't have to bully all my family into using signal. The app is almost perfect, but I rate it 4 stars because some functionality in other messaging apps, such as being able to send contact cards, are either missing or less than ideal to use. Other than that, fantastic app and I definitely recommend it.

  23. Ange Loron-avatar

I love the option of deleting messages after a certain time and overall it does what it's meant to - chat. On my Samsung phone the picture/camera option does not work well, somehow the picture taken always ends up lower than what I see on the screen. I thought that the messages were not saving on any server but when I use signal on my phone with a disappearing time of a few minutes and open the signal app on my windows machine several hours later, all the messages re-appear on my the windows app

  24. Daniel Smith-avatar

Sending media messages (gif and pictures) is HORRIBLE. The message usually fails 1-2x then I get a message which says "some issues need your attention" but I'm not told what the issues are or how I can fix them. I tap the resend button a bunch, it never works. I restart my phone, try to send the message and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it does, the timestamp says the message was sent when I originally tried to send the message. What is the deal? Samsung galaxy 8

  25. Micheal Shayne Tippetts Jr.-avatar

    Micheal Shayne Tippetts Jr.

This is a pretty great messaging app, as messaging apps go. It's "secure", asks for a pin, it works great. Easily build groups to use and communicate one with another. I just wish that I could delete users from my group as their participation is no longer required. It's no longer considered "secure", but a hindrance. That's my biggest concern. And my greatest dislike.

  26. Julian Frost-avatar

I like Signal, but it has quirks and annoyances. Last night, Signal told me one of my phone contacts (who I haven't spoken to in 8 years) is on Signal. Signal can send messages to my contacts regardless of them using Signal or not. So why "fill" my message list with these notifications? Sometimes, when new messages arrive, the UI doesn't scroll to the end of the new message, making it look like no new message actually arrived.

  27. Gregory Perry-avatar

Settings removed from conversations with more than one other person in which at least one member is not a Signal user. Until most recent release, notifications could be assigned to any individual threads/groups. I used that feature. This morning I noticed one group that should have a custom tone was using the default, and when I tried to check that setting, I discovered it no longer exists. Why remove that feature?

  28. Matt Marinsek-avatar

Awesome messaging app that respects your privacy and security and has most of the features you'd expect out of the top apps out there. Best of all it let's you do SMS as well so you can keep everything under one app and not worry that others don't use the same app that you do. Only thing I wish they'd add is syncing SMS with their Desktop programs. Otherwise this is a home run.

  29. asocial_nerd-avatar

Just downloaded, but seems like a really good service. My only notes are that it would be nice to be able to send SMS through my connected devices and that it seems counterintuitive that all my contacts would be notified when I sign up (if they've signed up). I apparently caused notifications for a bunch of people I didn't want to cause notifications for.

  30. Jibesh Saha-avatar

Always loved Signal. The true end-to-end encryption. But there are little problems. First is the delivery of message is slow. Second is Media delivery is extremely slow. I can live the first, but second one is a problem. Please try to add a option to compress images like other messengers before sending it so that it delivers first. Unlike other messengers it should be an option that the user chooses whether to compress or not.

  31. Lynn Sacerdote-avatar

Works great when it works. But recently I can't get messages from non-signal users, nor can they get my messages. I don't have this problem with other messenger apps. Since texting is a primary function for work, I can't miss texts because my messenger won't get them. I'll keep it installed, but I'm not going to use it as my primary message app anymore. Too bad, really.

  32. Andrea-avatar

Must have app if you care about privacy. I'm happy that they promptly corrected a few minor bugs and some UI polishing. 5 stars hands down. Now I have a last request: can you make the image rotate in landscape mode when in video calls please? I see that the iPhone version does that I don't get why not on Android and when I make calls with iPhone users it gets frustrating seeing people 90° sideways. Other than that congrats for the achievements

Signal is an amazing messenger application. I love the thought process behind it, the open source nature and how it protects everyday users. The only problem I have with Signal is that it does not search through Google Photos when you want to share media. I know Google has major problems but since photos take up lots of space Google Photos is ideal for a lot of people. If a feature could be implemented to be able to find photos though Google Photos that would be great.

Recently went from a pretty good user-first app that stored all data on your own phone to a corporate-style user-last 'service' that has begun sending data to their cloud without permission, mandatory account creation, password setting/updating nag reminders; all the user-hostile surveillance bells and whistles that are the opposite of why someone might want to use an app like this instead of the one that Google or Facebook offers. Did they get bought out or something?

  35. Giancarlo-avatar

I'm a very private person and always prefer to keep my communications encrypted and this app is great for what it offers. I'm not a big texter but the people I do text also like privacy and I was able to get them onboard with this app. You can call AND switch to video on the same call which is great. I do hope future updates will encrypt all texts and not just those between respective Signal users. All in all, a great app to use and doesn't use much memory on your phone. Best part is it's FREE.

June 2020 - having all kinds of problems downloading and uploading images. Slow, glitchy, and many fail to send and receive. I'm not sure what's happening. Feb 2020. The new conversation colors are lame. Limited file transfer size and support. Stickers are for pedophiles. Occasionally rejects large batches of SMS messages in group texts with non-signal users. I wish this was the 2017 version again.

  37. Alex Omen-avatar

The sync between the desktop client and the phone app could be smoother, waiting for 10 minutes for the client to catch-up if you used the other device kinda puts a minus on the experience. Other than that, solid and offers so much more than the other messaging apps. I really like the integration of SMS along with app chat and making sure you can use both distinctly. Solid and private as all should. Great work guys 🙂

  38. Legion Prime-avatar

Really great messaging app, superb when messaging others with Signal. Unfortunately this would be a whole lot more helpful if restoring backups actually worked. I have tried multiple times creating 3 backups so far and every single time I try to restore them on my new phone it tells me the passphrase is invalid. ETA: Okay so we have a PIN now, for what exactly? Could we perhaps go more than three godamned DAYS before the annoying prompts for the PIN which seemingly has no other use whatsoever?

  39. Mike Martin-avatar

With the updated version you get facial blur (useless feature for me) but you lost the ability to hot swap Speaker/Bluetooth so you have to restart the app. Plus you can no longer name SMS if you have multiple groups good luck finding the right one and if someone starts a new separate group. One last thing...if the app is going to be the default SMS app, please include a way to block numbers or messages.

The best I've found for end-to-end encryption. Enjoy use of this app while we still can. The American public cannot be trusted with encrypted communications, so says the US and most other governments say. This is because some bad actors do bad things and use encryption to stymie investigations. I still believe all of humanity should have access to privacy however. But maybe I'm just too old fashioned, a dying breed that misses freedom, free speech, and the pursuit of happiness. Foolish me.

Overall this is an excellent app, it's well laid out and a sensible configuration. Initially I did have some small amount of difficulty using the video function for my first video chat but this was because the video function is initially switched off when using mobile data (it's not switched off on wifi) when you first install it, I assume for saving data, but it's easily switched on when you discover it in settings. Overall this app is excellent and thank you.

  42. Wade Matteson-avatar

Best secure, end to end encrypted messaging service with optional disappearing messages that go away however long you set it for in settings once the recipient lays eyes on it. And it works both ways, I have tested it and truly rate this app 5 stars. I might try to work for them I'm that inspired by the righteous Ideals & slick propietary method that Signal operates by using in this app. I use Signal for all business related, or personal family messaging, because it truly offers me PRIVACY!!!!!!

  43. Eric Hidle-avatar

The idea is solid. But, the execution is terrible. MMS photos fail 90% of the time, and there is absolutely no support - none... zero... zilch... for filtering spam messages or even say "hey I only want to get texts from people in my phone book - send the rest to binspam." There is also no way to edit the members of a group text, or to use Wifi for anything. I have been trying to give Signal the benefit of the doubt but it has been YEARS and this basic functionality is still missing/broken. Instead of useful features and fixing broken ones, I now get annoyed to enter a PIN every two weeks. What good is that? I'm switching back to standard Android messaging which, you guessed it, supports every single one of these basic features that all texting applications should have.

Signal mixed up two of my contacts and one's phone number showed up under an others name. I uninstalled Signal and at reinstalled it still had the same issue. Then I don't know what happened, and the right person 's photo showed up but still under the wrong name and then I decided to delete both my contacts from my regular contact and now it still has a glitch. The person' s name and phone number is right finally, but the other person's name (that was correct before) is not showing only number.

Since March, I've not been able to send media to or receive from non-Singal users. Frustrating and inconvenient. Important/urgent texts have been eaten or come up as errors, putting a strain on personal relations. My partner often receives no notification of a new msg, again, putting a strain on personal relations. I've sent more than enough bug reports w/no response from devs. Seriously considering getting rid of this disappointment. (Also thx for deleting my initial review. /s)

I cannot make the app work. It gets stuck after I type in my phone number. I tried 2 phone numbers just in case. I also tried to uninstall and reinstall, restart and different connection. Nothing seems to work. Basically its stuck at the number verification code, no its buffering, no sms is sent, page is just stuck in buffering mode. Please help

  47. Mike Foust-avatar

This app has some good features, but it is very complicated just to delete a contact. I have to stick with WhatsApp since it's more user-friendly, once signal becomes a little more user-friendly I'll come back to it.

  48. Ax Death-avatar

Worthless. A complete piece of garbage, still, after 3 years. Signal doesnt reliably notify me of new messages. About 50% of messages dont notify or dont show up until well after they were sent (hours). I can straight be staring at signal at 7PM, but the next day when I open it, i'll have messages marked 645PM that never showed up. If you need you communication encrypted, you probably need to be able to reliably retrieve said communication. Signal cant do that.

  49. falgun patel-avatar

This app is great for security for sure. On the other hand it keeps on using my data even when my device is connected to WiFi which is pretty good on signal strength and available speed. This has led to the app using most of my data when making video calls. Ask to developers to fix this issue, or give a work around to have to keep on disabling data while making video calls and then turn it back on when needed outside of WiFi range. Will definitely give a minimum of 4 stars once this is fixed.

  50. TyV VTy-avatar

App Was Extre Enjoyable & effective 5⭐during 2018-19 .But it changed , don't like much now. Added emoji pop ups if you try cut, copy or delete a section in a text thread , don't like new mandates ID pin #, beging ask to confirm pin # often, seems It ties you, your info or confirms YOUR ID AND CONTENT. Requires access to all contacts , only used for a few select , company or media contacts. Now Kid Like and intrusive. WhatsApp up on the 50 million+ invested by alleged data selling app comp's ¿^>

  51. Abby Erickson-avatar

Can't send photos well, I often get a "failed to send" notification when sending a photo to someone else, and resending doesn't work. The recipient usually gets the photo in the end, but the status never changes from "failed to send." A bit frustrating. Also the ability to send photos in bulk would be nice.

Just sharing my way back here for developers to see. When I share an item from outside signal, the app asks for fingerprint and then closes; I have to share the item again for it to show the contacts. Also, there's no feature to automatically delete MEDIA messages such as long videos after some time, there only an option to delete all types of messages after some time.

  54. Chris X-avatar

it's such a shame this is buggy. It's great when it works but sometimes messages are not delivered / no notification. sometimes phone calls won't work, stuck on 'establishing call'. Very frustrating.

  55. Mike P-avatar

Issues with video chat crashing constantly after latest update. Update: 9Jun20. Audio during video chat does not work both ways. Only one way audio. Video starts off working but typically the video woll start looking like a bad Monet Painting replica. Tried different microphones at both ends of the call, tried rebooting phones, tried updating app. All does not work. Issue is random for both ends of the call.

  56. Joe-avatar

Long-time user. The biggest drawback to this app is how extremely slow it is with sending media. It made me reconsider using my default sms app for this reason alone. Also, recently (as of the last week) messages have suddenly failed to deliver, but the recipient still gets them. This may be a bug that needs to be fixed.

  57. Nathan Schouw-avatar

I love what they are trying to do. But for me on Tmobile with a one plus 6t. I've had nothing but problems with sms/mms. Doesn't matter if I use wifi calling or not. Some texts say they failed but really sent. Lots don't ever get received on my end. Can't afford to be missing messages so unfortunately it's a 1 star and nothing more.

  58. D C-avatar

I used to love this app in appreciate the encryption. But now there's a banner at the bottom requiring me to create a pin even though I have a pin for my phone. I used to be able to make it go away by forcing a quit and clearing the cache. But now it's persistent. If they don't take that away I'm going to uninstall the app.

  59. burnquist1-avatar

Good features and customization, but none of that matters cause it's very unreliable as a messenger. Texts take 30minutes to send and receive. This could never be your default messaging app in its current state. June 14th Update: 3Stars down to 1Star Recent updates have completely broken the app. All calls and texts are not received unless you have the app already opened.

  60. L J-avatar

like it more than big G's snoopy message app. idk, prolly doesn't make a difference in privacy but may as well try. no negatives besides a little bit unintuitive way of deleting messages.(edit) got used to ui quickly. to be encrypted end to end your contact has to be using signal app and have you have to have your number registered on signal's servers.. still do not use calling. not that i have anything against that, just haven't used.

  61. Mauritz Spies-avatar

Its a good messenger app. It does however lack many convenient features such as the ability to block spam messages, which is what I need most. I dont use standard messaging services that often but I dont want to be bothered with sms advertising I wont respond to and then there is scam mail, which is of course a complete waste of my time. I will have uninstall the app and revert back to google messenger or Huawei's built in messenger. Will give it a second look but in the far future probably.

  62. CJ-avatar

New to this app. One thing I found is you have to cancel a text in a posting one at a time. Annoying and time consuming. Can't you program it to delete multiple texts and keep the ones you want to keep like some of the other apps. Will edit posting in future to reflect my thoughts.

  63. Carl R-avatar

Probably the best and most secure texting app out there. Telegram has had breaches and WhatsApp is owned by Facebook (hard no). Now with the new updates they've been putting out the last year or so, this has become not just the most secure, but the best texting app on the market! It's got everything you need, can do phone calls, can answer texts on your computer, can make groups or schedule when to have messages deleted! Suggestion: maybe make it so you can auto-delete certain conversations?

  64. Stephen Serra-avatar

"Your safety number with {contact} has changed" After 3 weeks of thinking I had been ghosted by someone, it turns out that my messages were never delivered even though there was a little check mark next to the message that would seem to indicate it was delivered. A messaging app that doesn't send messages and doesn't alert you to unsent messages is a 0 out of 100 for me. Absolute failure.

  65. Brendan Forde-avatar

As great as this app has always been, I've just started having an issue with loudspeaker playback, where the screen will blackout and not return. It had started to do this but would return to the screen after an audio message had finished playing, but I've just had it not return and have had to reset my phone.

  66. Myion Rickey-avatar

Really like it, like the security, enjoy that you can do video conferencing without worrying about anybody else snooping. That said, I wish it had a landscape rotation, so you could turn it on its side and everything would rotate to still be upward. Other than that great app and would earn five stars.

Great app for sending messages, photos, audio & group open conversations. My 3 daughters & I have kept an open 4 way conversation going through the lockdown so I can drop in anytime & type something & whoever isn't busy can reply, sometimes all 3 at once & they can do the same. If it is as discreet as they say even better, although we have no great secrets to protect. Only grumble it doesn't recognise the same conversation on a different device, though it knows the 4 of us are in a conversation

  68. A Google user-avatar

App keeps asking me to rate and though I've already given it ratings 2 times. Got for the purpose of security n taking advantage of encryption. I can't send videos. i like calling with it but have to resort to regular calling. Some x s'thing stops working so u hv to update. Updates hv small improvements. The last I hope too care of the sending out hundreds of the same message!! but i like it though it still needs more options. otherwise it's great

  69. A Google user-avatar

Awesome app. Very user friendly. Have peace of mind while texting. You can even be secured on the other persons phone by applying disappearing messages. So you never have to rely on the other persons ability or lack there of on the use of the delete button. EDIT WHY DOES THIS APP ACCESS THE MICTOPHONE ALL DAY EVERY DAY???

Its good. The only features i wish were available are to block messages by #prefix and from senders that contain alpha-numeric characters. Update 6/18/20 Acting weird since latest update. Auto backup of contacts, and stalls in that state for hours. Also, I would like to be able to remove myself from group msgs, especially when it's spam.

  71. Matthew Samuel-avatar

Great now that it follows device theme, however the splash screen is still white regardless of which theme the app is set to. Obviously not a huge issue but it's pretty bothersome when in a dark room to get a quick flash of light like that

  72. Ian Adams-avatar

Still some features still needed. Like being able to customize individual contact notifications (the alerting symbol) and make custom vibrations. Also customizing the Quick Menu options. Being able to delete from the Quick Menu is wonderful. QoL things. That would make getting other users on it easier. Still though, even if I don't get to utilize the E2EE features I still know that Signal isn't reading or saving my texts and there's at least some comfort in that.

  73. Matthew Miller-avatar

This has been one of the most important apps I've had on my phone for years. The ability to have completely private communication combined with security features that go above and beyond is absolutely wonderful. And the app itself is gorgeous and keeps getting better and better. Highly recommend this to everyone!

It's a nightmare for dual SIM phones as you have no option to switch sms sending between SIM. even with a default sending number set on app the app just switches the number to whatever number you using for data. I've sent 3 emails with no acknowledgement nor update and this might be the down side of a beautiful app.

I don't understand some people's complaints. There are bugs, and they are continuously being worked out. IMHO this app has only gotten better over the years, and continues to do so. Excellent job team, and thank you Moxie for giving a such a great gift to the world.

  76. Andy Hartman-avatar

The trade off for protections and extra security amounts to a handful of previews not being available, who cares... Just use it, screw those who would trespass and eavesdrop on your private conversations, change starts with you. Start small with this awesome app. And invite your friends.

Some glitches but mainly good experience. Sick of unsecured connections and apps and this also has the ability to send multiple images which I appreciate and saves me time too. Just want a stable secure space for my friends and I to communicate. It's everyone's right. The call feature isn't very good in our experiences but hoping this improves.

  78. Joshua Barker-avatar

When I put an emoticon on a picture and don't alter it there is no problem. If I pinch and expand it it refuses to send the expanded emoticon. I sent several pics I wanted to lay an emoticon over to cover the face but it sent the original. Disaster! No privacy if I want to cover a face with an expanded emoticon!

  79. HARI M-avatar

Application is very good, easy to use but I had a suggestion that "if we share a Web page or web news to any person the particular LINK only be shared but not accompanied by news heading or thumbnail". But if we share YouTube videos, this facility is active. So my humble request is to provide this service to above mentioned area. Thank you.

I only moved from Whatsapp (which never had a problem) because a relative insisted I switch over because of Whatsapp's connection to Facebook (which, admittedly, a lot of people think is now a voracious information miner). I wish Signal would work properly on my android. My settings are right for alerts but even after downloading the app twice, I have to open the app to get messages. No notifications at all 😑

  81. Caroline Gray-avatar

Signal has been good so far. I'm only Signalling with my son who is 26 & he suggested we try using it. I'm also using Signal with my Tech savvy sister who's in her 50's. I luv the idea of those pesky corporates not being able to see wot we like! Thanx for the opportunity to start my Signal journey. Cheers C.

Cannot figure out how to transfer messages from previous chat. But overall it is working well. Just like any other messaging app. Knowing I can have my messages sent secure is nice to know.

  83. Cassie Brady-avatar

I do not get a notification unless the app is open in the background. Tested sending a message from a friend - on their app it only registers as 'sent', not 'received'. Therefore the app is not receiving messages unless it is running. I have gone through all app and phone settings, and troubleshoot guide.

Not getting my notifications anymore and sometimes it takes ages to send a photo or even a message sometimes please fix things it's really annoying when I'm not getting my notifications it worked really fine before but after the updates it stopped working properly like i remember before i could send music and stuff but now i can't even send a photo *PLEASE FIX* but overall great app i use signal pretty much every day, keep up the good work.

  85. Ian smith-avatar

(*update) I 've now had 17 (*19) versions of Signal since March, 7 (*9) just in June, and find this unnerving. Many just trivial eye-candy, kiddy stuff like stickers and emoji, others like assumption we'll want to put our encrypted stuff on any cloud (PINs) are disconcerting when Signal's core mission is simple: encrypted massaging and calls. You're not selling anything so why try to 'compete' with Whatsapp etc? Seems to make too many possible vectors for code mischief, please consolidate!

  86. M Caruso-avatar

Significant lag. Update: Fairly simple. On several occasions there has been a 10 - 15 minute lag between the sending of and receiving of messages although when they come through they have the time stamp from when they were sent. Most of these occurred between users in the same city, separated by less than 5 miles.

  87. J F-avatar

Weblink does not show the image what the link about, so I can't identify which one which the link about without seeing the image of photo when I send or receive many different links. Adding function for speaker phone and secure SMS will be a good thing. Having one gray tick, double gray ticks and double blue ticks for message indication of status also are the bonus for improvement.

All the features you'd expect to see with a little bit extra on top. Surprisingly customisable, but with good default settings that find a healthy middle ground with easy communication and good privacy. Really enjoy being able to customise the notification sounds.

getting worse by the minute ... no other apps I have with PIN security put a huge dumb banner at the bottom of the screen every day blocking off a portion of my messages and constantly ask me to "remember" it in case I've forgotten. Soooo stupid!!! I HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN AND I DON'T NEED A REMINDER EVERY DAY, MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY. remove this stupidity immediately pls. It's annoying af.

It kind of works, but it has problems. Group chats very hard to set up, it constantly bags me to invite my respondents to install Signal, and when I am in a chat and somebody else interrupts, I can't see the full text of the interrupt chat in order to reply appropriately. The only thing I can do is Mark Read, then go back to the interrupt thread later. Highly inconvenient!

  91. AJ Miller-avatar

Signal is good if you can get your friends to join. It's not like WhatsApp where a lot of your contacts will be on there already. It kept asking to be my SMS client but couldn't get it to work as that. So now I only use it with a couple friends and my wife.

  92. Love Love-avatar

It's okay...may use here and there. Is it possible for you to add the ability to schedule messages, like the default SMS app on Android? Also, would be nice if we could create custom colors for more of a variety between chats.

  93. thuan bui-avatar

The app was awesome until I changed phones. I've tried multiple times following your directions online and have not been able to transfer my messages. It doesn't not work as advertised.

  94. J Guzewich-avatar

Signal asks for the pin often. Be sure to remember it. Sometimes calls do not connect but that is likely due to the spotty internet at the call's origin. It is very good and useful.

  95. A Google user-avatar

The only grave privacy concern & weakness is the fact that this app is linked to your fone #. I definitely dont like the forced PIN promp, it should allowed u to opt-out by choice. Another thing that is highly annoying is the bubble reminder to make a PIN or Username. If this app would give u more control I would give it 5 ⭐️. 5June20:Updated this morning. Shorly after I was doing a multiple message select to delete & the app crashed.

  96. Neil Baker-avatar

Update: messages are delivered late. It has potential to be the best... but it needs: (1) ability to change the phone number of the Signal account, (2) ability to 'Share Screen' during video calls, (3) a Business API to encourage businesses to use Signal as an alternative to phone calls, (4) GROUP audio and video calls adding new participants on the fly during the call

  97. Lorenzo Guerra-avatar

Great app for private messaging, but it lacks a bit of features, like tags, text effects life bold, italic or similar and you cant delete messages for everyone. Also, I would advise to bring the progress bar of the video player UI a bit up, because in screens with round corners the text is cut

  98. Malik Owens-avatar

I love this app. Recommend it to all my friends and family. The video chat eats up battery and data, but it's clear. I only wish that in this social distancing age you could group video chat or even conference call. Other than that... love it.

Great messaging app. Really like the ability to react to messages with the full range of emojis. Obviously using signal for its privacy features. Love what you guys are doing. Can you please, please make this a paid app (like WhatsApp was-even if its just a dollar a year) so you can maintain your independence?

  100. Hilla Tolppa-avatar

Everything you need + security/privacy. Everyone should switch to Signal. Have tried WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram, and although WhatsApp has the best UI, Signal has all the main features and I would guess that only very few WhatsApp users may find Signal lacking functionality. When it comes to security, Signal is the only real option since there is no compromise like WhatsApp's unencrypted cloud backup and Telegram's unencrypted chats.
