Allows the app to get your approximate location. This location is derived by location services using network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine approximately where you are.
precise location (GPS and network-based)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.
view network connections
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.
view Wi-Fi connections
Allows the app to view information about Wi-Fi networking, such as whether Wi-Fi is enabled and name of connected Wi-Fi devices.
create accounts and set passwords
Allows the app to use the account authenticator capabilities of the AccountManager, including creating accounts and getting and setting their passwords.
pair with Bluetooth devices
Allows the app to view the configuration of the Bluetooth on the phone, and to make and accept connections with paired devices.
send sticky broadcast
Allows the app to send sticky broadcasts, which remain after the broadcast ends. Excessive use may make the phone slow or unstable by causing it to use too much memory.
send WAP-PUSH-received broadcast
Allows the app to broadcast a notification that a WAP PUSH message has been received. Malicious apps may use this to forge MMS message receipt or to silently replace the content of any webpage with malicious variants.
directly call phone numbers
Allows the app to call phone numbers without your intervention. This may result in unexpected charges or calls. Note that this doesn't allow the app to call emergency numbers. Malicious apps may cost you money by making calls without your confirmation.
take pictures and videos
Allows the app to take pictures and videos with the camera. This permission allows the app to use the camera at any time without your confirmation.
change network connectivity
Allows the app to change the state of network connectivity.
connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi
Allows the app to connect to and disconnect from Wi-Fi access points and to make changes to device configuration for Wi-Fi networks.
disable your screen lock
Allows the app to disable the keylock and any associated password security. For example, the phone disables the keylock when receiving an incoming phone call, then re-enables the keylock when the call is finished.
GET ACCOUNTS
Allows access to the list of accounts in the Accounts Service.
find accounts on the device
Allows the app to get the list of accounts known by the phone. This may include any accounts created by applications you have installed.
full network access
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.
change your audio settings
Allows the app to modify global audio settings such as volume and which speaker is used for output.
read calendar events plus confidential information
Allows the app to read all calendar events stored on your phone, including those of friends or co-workers. This may allow the app to share or save your calendar data, regardless of confidentiality or sensitivity.
read your contacts
Allows the app to read data about your contacts stored on your phone, including the frequency with which you've called, emailed, or communicated in other ways with specific individuals. This permission allows apps to save your contact data, and malicious apps may share contact data without your knowledge.
read the contents of your SD card
Allows the app to read the contents of your SD card.
read phone state
Allows read only access to phone state, including the phone number of the device, current cellular network information, the status of any ongoing calls, and a list of any PhoneAccounts registered on the device.
read your own contact card
Allows the app to read personal profile information stored on your device, such as your name and contact information. This means the app can identify you and may send your profile information to others.
read your text messages (SMS or MMS)
Allows the app to read SMS messages stored on your phone or SIM card. This allows the app to read all SMS messages, regardless of content or confidentiality.
read sync settings
Allows the app to read the sync settings for an account. For example, this can determine whether the People app is synced with an account.
run at startup
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.
receive text messages (MMS)
Allows the app to receive and process MMS messages. This means the app could monitor or delete messages sent to your device without showing them to you.
receive text messages (SMS)
Allows the app to receive and process SMS messages. This means the app could monitor or delete messages sent to your device without showing them to you.
record audio
Allows the app to record audio with the microphone. This permission allows the app to record audio at any time without your confirmation.
send SMS messages
Allows the app to send SMS messages. This may result in unexpected charges. Malicious apps may cost you money by sending messages without your confirmation.
set wallpaper
Allows the app to set the system wallpaper.
use accounts on the device
Allows the app to request authentication tokens.
control vibration
Allows the app to control the vibrator.
prevent phone from sleeping
Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep.
add or modify calendar events and send email to guests without owners' knowledge
Allows the app to add, remove, change events that you can modify on your phone, including those of friends or co-workers. This may allow the app to send messages that appear to come from calendar owners, or modify events without the owners' knowledge.
modify your contacts
Allows the app to modify the data about your contacts stored on your phone, including the frequency with which you've called, emailed, or communicated in other ways with specific contacts. This permission allows apps to delete contact data.
modify your own contact card
Allows the app to change or add to personal profile information stored on your device, such as your name and contact information. This means the app can identify you and may send your profile information to others.
edit your text messages (SMS or MMS)
Allows the app to write to SMS messages stored on your phone or SIM card. Malicious apps may delete your messages.

install shortcuts
Allows an application to add Homescreen shortcuts without user intervention.

No notifications. I'd say this is a good alternative to WhatsApp but it very rarely gives me notifications when I've received messages, this means i have to open the app to check for messages, which is fine but I barely ever remember, as so many people still don't use it that it's not a frequent app for me. I find this really frustrating as I often only get messages days later when I actually remember to check the app!

app This app is becoming one of my favorites. If you're not friends with someone on Facebook, you want to use chat with someone who has a different device and have it work internationally, this app is perfect. Sending pictures to other people on the app is quick and the interface looks simple enough to use. It's like Facebook messenger without Facebook.

review Great app. Encryption is good but I have just one issue with it. Signal is my default app and there isn't a clear distinction between sending messages via the internet and via my network telecom. Once a friend signs up with signal, the app always sends messages via the internet. In simple terms, you can't send messages to a friend via telecom once he/she signs up with signal when signal is set as your default app.

apk Everythingis really cool... security is the first priority... reducing a point for only one reason: --- When I try to share an image from another app, example Facebook, I am unable to share it to more than one person. I have to share individually to each person, thus traveling between FB and Signal. Dunno if this is in the current version. Can you please check it?

desktop Sadly, I am now having issues receiving messages. Several messages today didn't come through until up to an hour after they were sent and took for me to send a message or the person sending them to send another, for them to finally come through to my phone. Voice messages cut off part way through. I emailed Signal with an important query but still no response. 13th April and the issue has become worse. Most messages do not come through until "bumped". Are you going to address this?????

download Early adopter and loved it.. until they decided to add cryptocurrency payments. And in one altcoin that the head of the project is connected to. The price of that shot up on the announcement, so whether it was yet another crypto pump and dump or whether they're serious about wanting more state interest in Signal users, that's the end of me wanting to use Signal.

stock I like the app and being able to operate with encryption, but what I hate is that there appears to be no way to block sms messages, which for an app like this is ridiculous. Hence the 1 star. When they fix this I'll raise the star level. Apparently the developers are to busy to even respond to its customers reviews here, so save your breathe if that's why you're posting... Switching to new app!

mod apk If you take the time to actually read the writeups the professionals have done then the description of the purpose of the app then there's few reasons (if any that can't be fixed) to not give 5 stars. People make the mistake of thinking "I'll be totally anon!" no, that's not the goal. What are you thinking. The only issue I have is when video calling, if I flip my device the camera does a 720^4 and doesn't allow me to have vertical video sent or received. Vertical it is!

mac Absolutely in Love with all the functions and ease it offers for communication throughout every day life. Offers a desktop app as well which is a huge deal for me. The only thing I still wish for is some sort of indicator which voice messages were listened to on my end and which are new.

for pc I love signal, I find a 3 star appropriate. The app doesn't detect my camera, says camera unavailable. But it can capture videos. Problem setting group name and photo. Problem joining groups. The emojis don't appear clear. I would love to set a wallpaper for my chats.. I would love to contribute to the free and open source movement. I will keep the app.

I've used it for years and I think it's just wonderful like a warm, protective blanket that's been carefully and painstakingly made by a loving grandmother with a lingering smell of smoked cigarettes after having smoked a pack and a half just that morning. The same routine she's been doing for the past forty or some odd years and she says she's too old to change now. I love my blanket that my grandmother made me and I love her. Just like I love using Signal and feel protected using it.

Work very well on Android Galaxy S10, no problems whatsoever. As far as being encrypted, that part is transparent. I do feel better using this now that I know that normal SMS messaging is totally in the clear. This, VPN and Brave browser help a lot. Google doesn't need to know everything.

OK! So I have used it for a couple of weeks after dumping WhatsApp (data sharing with Facebook) seems a little unstable notifications are hit & miss between myself and the few users I convinced to try it. A few features I would like to see in the future, a last seen function, read receipts from groups (who has read it) and a status broadcast select contacts or all contacts! I like the privacy & peace of mind aspects of the service & will keep using it to see if it improves, has potential.

Really great app, good quality videos, my favorite messaging app by far. Only thing I really don't like is when you delete a contact from your phone, it still shows up on the app contacts, there seems to be no way to delete them, please change that

Great, lighter than whatsapp, million times better photo compression quality!!! April 2021 edit: since a couple of recent updates the photo compression is actually now worse than when using WhatsApp... Appart from the privacy, not much point anymore, I asked the team to reverse the algorithm or at least offer the choice as an option, we will see. Might need to switch again.

Signal is still the most secure messaging app available, so I gave them a second star. But ever since they exposed themselves as shady, immoral pushers of their cryptocurrency scam, I have a hard time trusting Signal anymore. I was even donating money on a monthly basis to the cause of Signal and privacy, because I thought they were the good guys. Now I'm looking for a new messaging platform.

I really like this app. There are some definitive improvements herein, over WhatsApp. I would give it a 5 Star if there was one small change applied to messaging functionality. WhatsApp has a very large microphone button so that I can be driving using my thumb to record messages. This was a must-have feature for me and many others. Trying to press the microphone button that is really little and wedged between two bigger buttons is not a good design. Please please please fix this team!

A core feature for any messaging app, forwarding, is broken. I'm only able to forward to other Signal users and it looks like this has been a problem for a while looking around. Everything else is good, basic but solid.

Top of the line for secure texting. Love the disappearing message feature and the fact that it seems impossible to take a screen shot or save a message. Perfect for secure business conversations. All the IT folks I know recommend this app and we love it at our company. Phone call & video call feature seems pretty solid also.

Desktop versions are horrible, and both versions have shockingly few useful settings. The recent groups "upgrade" is a mess and breaking the app for many people, just to add "meh" features we don't need. I loved signal when it was simple and worked; now it is neither.

Very minimal and friendly interface. Really enjoy the ability to react to messages with emojis. Temporary photos are also very interesting. Call quality is really good. However, It has some difficulties in saving your media to your phone. It should be easier and even automatic if a user likes it that way.

Very nice effort by signal on privacy. Hope they continue upgrading for best user experience. Just one thing, when I share a webpage on 'note to self' feature, it somehow shows a different contact name getting ticked while in footer space shows correct contact listed i.e. 'note to self'. Please resolve this.

Started getting SMS spam and cannot forward the messages to my carrier to report them. It's just not an option to enter the short code or the saved contact. Unfortunately, it's enough to make me switch back to standard app since I am getting so many.

While the encryption is good, it would be dope if they didn't snitch to your friends and contacts when you first set up your account 😂 I get it, it's notifying people so that you could start an encrypted conversation, but it's still super weird.

It seems to be getting wprse and worse. Super glitchy. When I'm receiving a call it doesn't show that someone is trying to call until it says missed call same when I call out. Also notifications sometimes don't come thru for hours at a time. Its completely unreliable and so frustrating.

I'm totally confused by this app. Does it search my contacts and add them? Or do I have to connect each one individually? If it's automatic I'm underwhelmed as it appears that only 2 of my contacts use it. I wanted to get away from WhatsApp because I'm not a fan of Facebook or Zuckerberg, but unless it has lots of subscribers this is a non-starter

Really enjoy this messaging app. Takes a bit to get used to, but it is great! One downside, you can't send more than 1 picture at a time in a group message. And can't send videos... The calls aren't perfect, but they work.

I have been using Signal for 2 yeasts or so, but I definitely the best messaging app, I leaving the complexity out (compare to other messaging apps), and I have never feel more safe that my conversations and app usage is not being sell to third parties. Thanks for this great app and service.

Hi, Iam a Fan but there are still flaws. First of all, the videochat quality is way better than the one in whatsapp or even facetime, thanks for that. But in vifeochatting there is a major flaw that a lot of people dont like. Its a simple thing but you yould be able to zoom in on your own screen that you share. I cant look and adjust my looks by having a small screen on the side corner. Its actually really important to have a zoomable screen to adjust your appearance by looking at the cam.

Total privacy (+/- the chance NSA got a back door after years of crying) has had a profound effect on me. It made me appreciate just how terrible the data collection of the walled gardens are. It didn't take long for many of my friends to jump on this app also and we're putting it our PCs, too. The biggest surprise was finding how beautifully integrated Signal is with my phone and how it replaces so many other communication modalities. Fewer apps needed, especially FAANG!!

I'm using this app for two months. I'm facing no problems with messaging & call quality; but the big problem for me is, there are no ringtone playing for incoming calls, only vibration. At first, I thought it's happening for my older OS (Android 5.1), but after checking everything of my phone & talking to some of my friends I realized that this is the problem of the app. Because they're facing the same problem, too. I'm requesting the developer to fix this & other problems as soon as possible.

App is quite heavy in my opinion. Very annoying if you're recording a voicenote and receive a phone call, everything you recorded is lost and have to start again. If you delete a voicenote before sending it, the next one will be delivered empty unless you close the app between deleting the first voicenote and recording a new one. Pretty annoying glitches for me as I use voicenotes a lot in conversations.

Great idea. Features are good too. But the issue is sometimes it just goes to sleep until I click on it. I have disabled battery saver for it, even then. This happens for other ppl too. Please sort this out asap.

Generally nice app and it's enhanced privacy is the main reason to use it. However, the app feels more like a beta than a final product. Sending images doesn't really work on my device. Whenever I try to send media files, the gallery will just show a grid of black squares. They can still be sent, but selection is just a guessing game. Might be due to the amount of media on my device (~80GB images and videos), but other apps don't have similar problems. I hope Signal can improve here.

They fixed a bunch of stuff since my last review. There are still a few bugs here and there but most of the app is now very friendly to use. Best messaging option if you care about your privacy. Last thing, you added a button to tap to unlock with fingerprint, which is smart cause I used to have to restart the app. But now the button is no longer working lol, so same situation over again!

Been using Signal awhile now, simply the best: great features, easy to use, cross platform. It just works! Good as SMS app, cross platform voice/video chat, & voice texting lets you safely keep your eyes on the road. The transfer account option (just added, a million thanks m0xie) let me successfully move EVERYTHING (all signal messages, SMS/MMS) from a dying android phone to a new one. Secure & privacy respecting. Signal is the best messenger for you & friends/family. There's none better.

Top of the popular apps, I'd have rated it 5 stars, if not for notifying all your Signal using contacts that you're using Signal, including people in your contacts that you Never want to know you have their ph# & that sometimes msgs sent that appear to have been received but not read, are yet to be received...? Well, don't rest on your laurels... get on with it, fix it !!

I use it daily but I have two issues to address. 1 when you switch phone you lose your history, with telegram or WhatsApp you don't and keep your history effortless. 2 often when sending media, the picture keeps loading until you shut it off and send it with WhatsApp because it take too long

Excellent app for chating and video call only. Rest all features are ok not so bad,but it will be better if the app will update itself on its rest features. Such the quality of video gets low when we send etc.But as a chainting and video calling app it is excellent, and awesome obviously in privacy.

Mike, x2 Moto e5 plus running Android 8 Changed from WhatsApp to this for obvious reasons. This works very well, just got to convince all my contacts to change as well. Some will change, some won't because they don't care or don't know that Facebook owned apps specialise in privacy breaches.

I've heard this is a secure way to have private conversations which is great, what isn't great is the app's stability. During video call, often times camera doesn't activate for one of the two people on call. Even after that, if I rotate my phone to landscape at some point in the call, the display on my screen is rotated 180deg the wrong way (the small window that shows myself) I know it's a weird problem and unsure if it happens to others, but it is annoying. Sometimes it straight up crashes.

Great app, works great most of the time BUT Even if it is set as default it does not take all the functions in charge I often get messages from my previous app to switch back if I want to be able to share content. Some banks ask you to reply to a sms to receive an OTP, this somehow does not work with signal ☹️ had to switch my default messaging app back 😪 Tested both Messages apps From Google and Samsung, both work properly.

For the most part I'm happy with messaging, pictures, location, layout & privacy. The most painful thing is when calling it will ring my side bit not ring the person I'm calling, this also happens visa versa, for the last 2-3 months I've been using this app its always been an issue when trying to voice call. I'm still hopeful this will all change soon

You are forced to identify your self with your number, and Signal relies on centralized servers to send messages which are often slow. I can only recommend Jami and Element (riot) until Signal allows a peer-to-peer option and requires no identifiers (your number).

Comparing this to WhatsApp, 1) signal has better audio quality (for both voice messages and voice calls). HD quality voice calls provided 2) image quality is not hampered 3) a person's online/offline status is not shown 4) read receipt can be on and still you won't be able to track when the message was read (desperation and stalking is put to an end here) Cons:1) emoji format is old 2) SCREEN SECURITY DOESN'T BLOCK SCREENSHOTS FROM THE OTHER PARTY BUT JUST BLOCKS OURSELVES. Moot point much?

Perfect! Works amazing like any other messaging app, but with complete privacy. Super easy to use. I also use the Windows desktop client to chat and securely transfer files between devices.

Great messenger, used to give it a lower rating because they were still building it up but now it's great. I have a weird share issue not out as SMS when you directly share from a picture, but everything else Works flawlessly. I wish you could change the background of the chat selection list but other than that it's fully customizable

Recently made the switch from WhatsApp - so far Signal is just okay. One major flaw is the app does not allow you to send full quality photos or videos, something WhatApp does allow you to do. Also, it automatically scans your contacts and notifies you when people are on Signal, which I would consider quite invasive. For an app that values privacy, it seems like a strange move. At the very least, you should have the option to decide which of your contacts you would like to notify.

I got signal because of privacy concerns with WhatsApp. It's a nice video service, but there is one giant problem: signal will regularly not send your videos. If you don't have great cell service or Wi-Fi, signal will trap your video in the abyss for 24 hours before you can re send it. It doesn't matter if you get better Wi-Fi or move to better service, signal will not send your video for 24 hours. This honestly makes the service worthless to me.

This app is suffering from multiple issues. 1) Some messages were delayed for hours. 2) Sometimes there is no notification for calls and messages. 3) Very poor call quality that often cuts off. 4) The PC app takes an eternity to load. Overall as of late not a reliable messenger. I believe the company is suffering from lack of resources to smoothly run this app. Either they need to turn this app commercial or everyone must donate. Looking for alternatives.

just all round good app, continually updated and improved. it makes the impression of a passion project which i love. the only problem i face from time to time is glitches in the sync between mobile and desktop apps. sometimes messages don't appear or not in the right order. sometimes i also get the "For your security, conversation history isn't transferred to new linked devices." info again on already linked devices.

Works great as a replacement for an everyday SMS messenger ..... except for the bit where I can't import old SMS messages. I understand this was feature in older version that has been removed now, and it seriously needs to be brought back. I don't understand why you would remove that as a feature.

Can't transfer previous text messages from other applications, such as google messages. It was a feature in the 4.7 version but they removed it and now I could lose old messages by switching over, which I won't be doing

Would like to rate this app higher but it is painful when trying to download photos and videos to save them externally. Some files are saved with the timestamp in the name, while others are simply saved as IMG_#### and when looking at he properties of the saved pics and videos the date created is the date you downloaded the files not the date that it was sent to you so you have no idea when the photo/video was taken.

I think for an app growing in popularity, experience appreciation will certainly evolve over time to push for further improvements. Right now, some group members stop receiving messages. Some would have to uninstall and reinstall the app. Personally, I have not had any issues with the app so far. But the experience can be improved if group members in general enjoy the same kind of experience using the app

Work well with some quirks. Messages are easy to send and I like the interface, but.... I don't like that when I'm listening to an audio message that sometimes the sound changes from phone loud speaker to earpiece only. The only way to get the audio back to the loud speakers is to close the app completely and open again. I also don't like that you can't send a very long video without it being super compressed or denying you because the file size is too big.

Update: When forwarding a message or image, the app does not populate all of my contacts and I cannot discern why. Very frustrating. Also, the app allows multiple creations of the same groups. Original review: I have been looking for an encrypted texting app for awhile now and finally came across Signal. Just downloaded it, set it as my default, imported all of my text messages only to find that it did not import any of my group chats.

Problems with voice calls - phone doesn't ring when someone is calling and what worse, screen remains black. Sometimes the ring is played but there is no icon of incoming call, no buttons to accept or reject the call are displayed. In fact it looks like the phone gone mad and plays the ring by no reason; later on the icon of missed call is displayed so at least one can knows what happened. Very annoying.

This app has the potential to be amazing, but it isn't quite there yet. If the person you're texting doesn't have Signal, the message sometimes doesnt go through. It doesn't sinc very well with your phone contacts and limits the number of characters you can use before splitting your text in two. When texting other people with Signal, this app is fantastic

Okay messaging app. Picture/video data caps seems lower than most other messaging apps. Messages will fail to send fairly often. Maybe every other day I have issues. Main reason I'm tolerating it to this point is for the encryption.

Sadly a messaging app doesn't manage to show notifications unless you open it, what's the point of using it? Privacy and security online are great but it's not an online banking app, priority is to make the messages going through in my opinion. With all the comments reporting this issue I'm amazed it has not been fixed yet. Been trying my best to stay away from "big corporates" apps but I admit their app does what it is meant to. Sound volume is also very low when calling, can't raise it at all

When I had an iphone, this app was fine minus not being able to back up my messages at the time. On my android, my picture messages and attachments are going to the wrong contacts even though I've selected the right ones. That's as insecure as it gets. The last straw was tonight when I was trying to send my ex some old photos of us he'd asked for and they were instead sent do my new business partner. Unacceptable. On top of that, I can't send images to iphones. Fails to send.

So far so good. Simple. Back to basics. Yet, I don't feel like I'm missing out at all in terms of features compared to WhatsApp. In fact, you can call (and video call) directly through their desktop app, which is something you can't do at all with WhatsApp Web or in Windows.

I have not had this app for long enough to be completely certain that I'm going to like it. So far it seems okay. Time will tell Have now had it long enough to upgrade my initial four star review to a five star review. I've had no problems in using it and I'm comfortable so far with security features. Easy to use app. I'm still learning how to copy and forward two other users and other apps. But overall I am very satisfied.

After the self destruct timer is set, no one should be able to forward messages and the self destruct timer maximum should allow for upto 1 month. Private group chat capacity could do with being dramatically increased, and group owners need to be able to tailor individual members rights more so for the app to compete better.

The app doesn't notify me when someone is calling me in real time. Often times I get a notification 10-15min later or whenever i enter the app again (everyone I know have this problem). Would've also been perfect if I as a user could choose so no one can printscreen my conversation with them.

I uninstalled this app then reinstalled, not sure why. Basic things like screen orientation was an issue. Sound is an issue. There are other issues and the app is unnecessarily complicated... too many settings. If they can't get the basics right, how can I be sure of any 'security' measures.

A little difficult to know how all of it works. I am an 80 year old and I am thankful to have this app to speak to my son and some friends in Europe. However i don't know how to add them or how to send photo's to them and granted I am not able to decipher all the little faces and signs that these smart phones use. But...I'm thankful for the app.

Security is great and all but there's a notable lack of convenience here. I'll give it time but it is frustrating to use right now. 1. This app has the smart idea of sending a notification for every single message instead of grouping them. Like a blaring siren. 2. Muting conversations in the desktop app does not mute the conversation in the mobile app and vice versa. Poorly synced in general. 3. Incredibly slow to send and receive messages to the point where it is unusable.

Feels more secure than any default messaging system built into the phone. However at times I've had trouble with inputting my pin. You create one and remember it, but on rare occasions the app doesn't accept it, or thinks your personally created pin is longer than it really is. Resetting it isn't difficult but can be frustrating when you are certain of your Pin. Secondly the timestamps for sent and received messages lack clarity, as well as read receipts. These two items need to be clearer.

Very poor quality for both audio and video We really thought you guys will improve now that large num of people are wanting to switch to signal, but you have wasted a lifetime opportunity. You should really have used this chance to your leverage and made updates to meet the least requirements of the users. But on the contrary you could not even upgrade your servers to handle the call load. Very disappointed with the team!

Biggest problem - messages, IM calls are not delivered on real time basis unless the App is open in background. What happens is: if the app is closed then you are bound to miss calls & messages. I have tested on many devices and problem seems to be generic with the app. Besides, it occupies more than 100 mb in RAM compared to WhatsApp 40 mb, but works inefficiently. Having said 'Note to Self' is an excellent feature. Unreliable app.

Whoever designed this did it in a hurry. No thoughts to make it at par with anything in the market in a similar space. There is no option to hide chats like it was in Hike. That too password protected with tons of features. Also the look n feel of Signal needs to improve. Can we get more stickers /emoticons rather than the usual dumb ones???. And please calling ...I don't even have to say. The volume is so feeble you can't even hear the other person if the fans are on in the room

Switched from Facebook Messenger to Signal. Love it ! One feature missing is the ability to show your screen to another person. I am communicating with my Grandmother and would often assist her via facebook messenger by seeing her screen and showing her what she needs to press. Would such feature be possible? Deleted whatsapp, instagram and facebook. Havent looked back since. Keep up the good work Signal!

I started using this app as my default messaging app. Did so for about a year. Then, for no reason at all, it started sending me a short text from individuals in my groups before the message went to the group. So, when I wanted to mute a group, I had to mute every individual in that group to get them to shut up. Then, it just stopped muting conversations completely even when I selected mute options. I updated it, uninstalled, reinstalled, idk what the problem is but it sucks. Switching.

Open-Source and doesn't leak my data! Me likey 😊. But big QOL issue: messages take very long to send on wifi (i don't use signal as my sms app) for no apparent reason. Usually happens when I exit out of the app after sending the message or when my battery saver is on. To remedy this. I have to turn off battery saver and open the app to the person I'm trying to send the message. Then only will the message go through. Pls fix this. And I'll change my ratings

Love this app for it's privacy and straightforwardness, but am often frustrated by its lack of flexibility with listening to and leaving audio messages. It doesn't always synch with my headset when listening and never does when recording. It would also be nice if you could listen offline and if the audio didn't constantly fluctuate from speaker to phone setting. If you're moving around at all while trying to listen it's not worth it.

This app is great. I gave 3 star because it lacks options like media option where all sent video and fotos are stored within app, animated stickers, desktop app takes forever to load and video calling is to the par, voice delay.

Signal has undergon much improvement since I first used it in 2019, and become a lot more user friendly. I ditched what's app and choose Signal because the latter doesn't store our messages in any way, so I'm sure that nobody could access messages except the sender and the recipient(s), or when a phone is hacked. I would rate it 5 stars if messageS in Signal could be deleted easier by simplify highlighting them W/O having to select the 'stripes' symbol first.

Overall great app. Nice unbloated, open source alternative to Facebook messenger. The only thing that keeps this from getting 5 stars is you can't send or attatch multiple pictures/videos in an SMS. You have to do them all as separate posts. Perhaps this is coming in a future update.

Will change the rating if sms is supported. Don't get me wrong. I like the app. And the promise of users owning their data and nobody mining them. But Signal prompt me to make it the default sms app. I readily complied. The thing is, you can only receive sms, but you cannot choose it to send sms to a contact who you have chatted with using data. Ex. You sent an sms invite to A. A added you as contact. You chatted using data. You can no longer send sms to A. Sad.

Really good app although not sure why you need my number to register, also in not likely to further my pin number do not sure why you need to "remind" me to put it in every other day. Other than these this is a great app and I would recommend it to anyone who is not wanting to use social message. UPDATE can we have an edit option so wish we send a msg before they look at it you can edit the msg for spelling mistakes due to spell check (useless)

Top marks for doing what they are doing. Not sure anyone would tell Signal if they've broken the codes but presumably there are plenty of independants out there that would love the publicity. The most important part for me is the privacy and efficient data use. Not worried about stickers etc but I'm sure many people are. As long as things aren't there by default and we always have the ability to remove features we don't use...

Comparing to other applicable for voice call, i used other application for above than 7 hours i think only 50% off battery loss but in the case off signal the phone will be switch off. Signal is a solid app and a great alternative to WhatsApp. I would say it is not as refined, but honestly, they are doing a great job of features that keep me sticking around. Call and video quality is definitely below par in my book, but this is still a great app for anyone looking for a messaging app that offers true privacy. From voice recording and background images to message receipts and delete features, Signal is top notch app. I would love to see a web app for the desktop.

Good, but not great. I DON'T like the way the PC app is not synced with my phone. I also don't like the obvious quality difference between making a call with signal and making a regular call with my phone app. Outside of that, everything else seems ok, I guess.

So far so good. Like the privacy and what they stand for. Only downside today was when I tried the desktop version, found out of people send you messages it shows both on phone ams desk top. And of you send messages from desk top also shows on the phone. BUT if you send send messages from phone, the messages won't show up on the desk top (own messages sent to other people). ALSO like to see option not to sync my full contact on the desk top but only the group/messages started on the phone

I hate unnecessary 😒 and inefficient process. Someone suggested that I use this app for a group chat. It's way to many steps to find the group chat or room. Rather use any other app that makes it easier to invite new members and easy to access group. No rating being given, trying to be fair as I haven't navigated the app, just that the start has been mediocre

Installed due to security reputation but crashes few times and freezes few other times. Whatever you guys did for this new update broke the sharing/forwarding UI. Anytime I try to forward a message or send pictures from my phone's gallery the list of contacts I can select from is a small subset of all my contacts. Previously I could select any contact or find them with search. Can't even find a contact with search in the Signal UI. You all need better QA of your product. Now drops you to 1 star.

It's a great app for the most part, with nice features. But recently it has started having trouble sending my messages, making whoever I write to recieve messages up to hours after they were sent. This can even happen randomly during conversations, where one can send a response without it reaching the other person before they send something new making the conversation randomly confusing.

I just changed my phone number and can't see the feature on the app to change my number. So, that's like asking me to lose my entire previous conversations and set up a new one. Why?? That's so upsetting. It's giving me anxiety. Other than that, the video and voice qualities are second to none, so far. I'd have given you a 5 star. I still can, if you'd tell me how to change/switch my phone numbers without losing my chat/conversation history.

I would like to give 5 stars because its FOSS, respects user data, respects privacy and security. BUT... It has it's flaws. Calls don't get through and bluetooth isn't recognized 50% of the time, along with other bugs. If these things get fixed 5 stars for sure

Pluses, the app is what we need. Sadly, they & Telegram have a mindless self-serving marketing feature using our contacts for them. They'll tell us we approved this in their TOS, but why, should our privacy be compromised? What if a name stays in your contact list, but you don't wish to communicate further, if that person gets the app? Do you want them even seeing your name, as you're both using the same app? HELL NO! When is enough? They should offer each person the chance to opt out.

Reviewed cryptography, no unneeded permissions, also an excellent replacement for the SMS app. Has desktop versions which are very useful but not as good as the mobile, as they're standard tortured Electron software. Unfortunately some of my contacts miss many notifications for messages and calls, so they can't use it properly and opt for the more well known alternatives. Update: missing notifications seems mostly fixed.

I would like to rate higher, but.... Difficulty in receiving messages. Sometimes for hours until receiver opens Signal. My whole family complaining, and want to return to WhatsApp. I have made the changes suggested in Troubleshooting. Difficult to delete voice notes. Unable to delete multiple selected messages at once. Video calls cut out. Would like to see 'Last Seen' option or time messages were seen. Would also like Status and auto save to Gallery. Glad that Signal are improving.

Its very good for personal & as well as business communication. Privacy policy is quite good only. Few options are not avail here as whatsapp but its not so essential for normal communication. Few essential options are also needed, hope they will update in future. Overall its very good than whatsapp upcoming privacy policy.

From the beginning I was really surprised by the video and photo quality I shared and everything was good. But recently I noticed that I don't get notifications about new messages even though in the settings is everything same and okay. I don't get it.

Generally a good experience. Little things bug me, like not being able to share more than one photo/message. No problems, just little inconveniences.

I love Signal. btw.. signal bugs. 1. can't pull down notification shade when there is a notification from signal messenger. 2. slow sending message (takes few seconds to send a plane text) when replying to a media. 3. notification will disappear soon after replying from notification shade while other apps remains in there unless swiped away. This makes us to enter app to send a 2nd msg as reply.

Perfect message app. Encrypted and private, no messages are stored on any servers. All they store is your phone number, when you joined, when you last used the app. No one can see who you have communicated with. So it is private, but not anonymous, because the authorities can see where it not you use Signal, but that's all they can see.

I tried SO many times with SO many methods and I still can't get this App to give me notifications unless I make it the primary texting system. But if I do that then those who don't have the App can't reach me. Very disappointing.

At times experienced it unable to use as it was "Network was busy". Another time, I depressed the send button & the result that it sent the txt 15,000 times. Also - it's difficult to switch from message to callimg the contact - which was what I could've done on the iPhone.

UI to be made more user friendly 1. multi select messages for deletion is not very intuitive... check box method and ALL option will go a long way than to use the touch to select each message... 2. if all messages are removed from a group, the group disappears from the list until someone else posts a message... so have to keep the groups pinned, may not want all groups to be pinned... 3. quick removal of messages required without deleting the entire group or individual conversation.

Like the app ok. Except the voice to text that part sucks like a hoover and MMS from others won't download....frustrating to say the least...downgrading my stars to 3 from 4. Sorry. Fix the issues please. As of 3 30 21. Going down to 2 stars...its getting worse...pictures won't send and lately texts in general are coming up failed...gonna be tossing this app soon if you can't get it squared away..

I like the App, has improved in stability over the past year and the problems with notifications not being sent reliably seems to be resolved. One problem that still seems consistent is in handling largish attachments. The app crashes quite consistently when trying to send 50+ or so MB of data, be it as a single file (e.g. video) or multiple smaller files at once (e.g. multiple images). Hoping there is a Bugfix for this soon, as I am slowly getting more and more of my friends to migrate.

Signal is a good app but needs a lot of to get right if it needs to compete with WhatsApp. Messages and Calls don't get notifications, emojis don't change colours after selecting it, you can't add people in video calls unless they are part of the group, audio setting for video call is always set on earpiece and not on speaker and only when connected to a Bluetooth headphone then the option of 'Speakers' come, GIF's are slow. And a lot of other things need to get fixed!

A clean no nonsense app. Than you Signal, thank you FOSS. Please give us an option to not associate our phone number with our signal account. Something that BBM had. I don't want every Tom, Dick and Harry to know that I am on Signal. Till then, can't use Signal (Not using WA either).. Will rather stick with SMS!

My problem is that my phone was hacked by a select few individuals. I isolated them and blocked in the personal web apps. I had to add to address book un block them dump in trash to get rid of them from another app. When I checked signal they were still here. The only way to rid the phone after blocking is to delete the program even though they were not officially on my account in the first place

Very nice love how secure it is. It's definitely my go to Messenger for texting love how it's free love how easy it is to access my contacts for quick texting. But it could be a tad faster when sending messages. But definitely one of the best texting apps out there. Thanks signal

It doesn't work. Shows network error, contacts unable to sync. Tried all trouble shooting tips. Still no luck. How difficult is it these days to correct such issues?!

Brilliant, with definite scope of improvement. Earlier I rated 4 but now two because the messages wont deliver to the other party, only single tick i.e sent from my side but no received on the other, makes chatting experience so horrible, I don't want to switch back to whatsapp please fix this issue, earlier there was no such issue , device I'm using is one plus 8T. Hope to receive a reply on this. Thanks

Easy to use. Secure chat, voice and video calls - one app. Makes using wi-fi a breeze for clearer calls. Very easy to send invites to your friends/loved ones. Can be used instead of current sms/mms and voice calls with your existing contacts! No need for a seperate contacts app. Easy to download and use Pc version that syncs with your phone that can replace skype and zoom with secure encrypted data.

Works great with a lot of the features from paid apps, and on top of the encryption, this is a must-have for any security-minded individual. I would love to see a blacklist feature added in the future, to block messages from particular numbers.

Need to much permissions for a simple messenger, include to less features and the kind of sync and transfer accounts is one of the most stupid things I ever seen. Thanks to this, my number was blocked by Signal... It's not secure and no alternative to WhatsApp or Telegram. Element is the only real alternative!

Everything's fine except when a message is not sent due to network problems, the user isn't notified. A message was supposed to received 4 days ago but we only found out it wasnt sent by the sender (without knowing it) when we asked for an update.

Good app up until recent updates. Devs sneakily removed the ability to import SMS messages; if you get a new phone or wipe your existing one for a fresh start, none of your SMS message history (even those sent by Signal) can be viewed. Dev response to the inevitable community uproar was a snarky "Just go use another SMS app if you really need to see your old messages," which is stupid, arrogant, and tone-deaf. Work around by installing version 5.1.1 but I'm sure that'll stop working soon...

Switched from whatsapp from like two months ago. Now it's my go to messaging app as well. But there are couple of things I would love to have here: 1. Mute notification without tapping inside individuals/group's conversation. You know why. 2. Backup on drive option. Make it switched off by default so that people like me who loves to have their backup in case the phone get stolen can have their chats back. Good luck devs and thanks for making me feel safe.

Overall, I'm disappointed. Using on Huawei P30 Pro. Picture thumbnails don't load when I try to send photos. On video calls I hear echo of my own voice. When trying to send photo taken from the app, the crop is ridiculously small compared to normal camera app.

Really happy w this app. The video chat has been seamless for me (android). As an alternative to other apps owned by FB it's meeting all my needs and exceeding expectations. I can be new app aversive. Hate new interface, searching for functions, learning instead of utilizing. Since first use it has been easy. I don't hunt for different streams - dm vs video or phone - and can easily pull in pix and links. Highly recommend.

I would give this app 5 stars if the backup from the backup file would work. It does not work because I am promped to enter a numeric PIN for my backup file, but my PIN is alphanumeric and there is no way to activate special signs or letters. Only numbers are showen, so you need to FIX THIS ASAP

Glad I found out about this one. More secure than Telegram, although I prefer Telegram's GUI and functionality of sending files and being able to copy multiple chunks of text. This is almost identical to the default google messenger, which is sad, because google is a hunk of socialist shi7. UPDATED to 5*s. The security is worth the GUI.

So basically! this new update the last two, this new bit now pops up, unlock signal it states, after you press the part where it states, Tap to unlock, my finger print censor is blocked, I've got a on screen one, so your new pop up is in the way of my on screen censor, please remove that white pop up? or can I revert back to when this wasn't an issue?

I actually really love this app and want to give it five stars but some of my messages are extremely delayed - as in, I'm not receiving them for hours. I've tried restarting my phone because I know it can be finicky but it still happens which is inconvenient considering the reasons I started using this in the first place.

End to end encrypted app with metadata also being encrypted and backup is stored on device not cloud. Overall 4/5 stars app. Only thing signal needs now is to let users chat without phone numbers and it will kill WhatsApp.
