Privacy is possible. Signal makes it easy.
Using Signal, you can communicate instantly while avoiding SMS fees, create groups so that you can chat in real time with all your friends at once, and share media or other files all with complete privacy. Signal's servers never have access to any of your communication and never store any of your data.
★ Say Anything. Signal uses an advanced end-to-end encryption protocol to keep your conversations private. Every message, every call, every time.
★ Open Source. Signal is Free and Open Source, enabling anyone to verify its security by auditing the code. Signal is the only private messenger that uses open source peer-reviewed cryptographic protocols to keep your messages and calls safe.
★ Be Yourself - Signal uses your existing phone number and address book. There are no separate logins, usernames, passwords, or PINs to manage or lose.
★ Group Chat. Signal allows you to create encrypted groups so you can have private conversations with all your friends at once. Not only are the messages encrypted, but the Signal server never has access to any group metadata such as the membership list, group title, or group icon.
★ Fast. The Signal protocol is designed to operate in the most constrained environment possible. Using Signal, messages are instantly delivered to friends.
★ Speak Freely - Make crystal-clear phone calls to people who live across town, or across the ocean, with no long-distance charges.
Signal is not currently compatible with tablets, but support for larger screens is on our roadmap and will be included in a future release!

App ChangeLog

  • ★ Swipe up while recording a voice note and give your thumb a rest.
  • ★ Send long messages. We could use the entire 500-character limit that Google Play graciously provides to Android developers for the What's New section of each app update and do some meta thing where we talk about the numerous benefits of being able to use a lot of text to say something when using a few words just is not enough, but a character limit isn't very fun (which is why we eliminated ours).
  • ★ We fixed several MMS bugs.

Still no support for mms, which is becomming a bigger problem as this includes multiple recipiants and this is now prevelent. It does not handle Multi Media Texts well. Can't download messages sent to multiple people, nor pictures, Etc. Otherwise it's OK. I use it for those few who also use it for the encryption.

Free! Thanks!

Simple and secure messaging app. No option for square contact photo.

This app has a good editor, is clearer in voice calls than WhatsApp where I have used it, security in voice and text is very important. Very impressed and could replace WhatsApp over time once more people leave WA. SMS is better than android. BUT: when data is unavailable, such as no WiFi connection, the app does not send messages as sms to folks who also use signal. Thus I cannot actually use this to replace messenger, as sms should still be possible to use if wifi is gone.

it was a good app 1 or 2 years back.... now its full of bugs: not able to send messages until phone is restarted, sync between devices is working randomly, erased messages can be anyway downloaded from server on 2nd device even several months later... lock screen with own pin has been removed to have the same pin as the android lock.... most probably ill move soon away...

Truly awesome app!! Few, if any, other apps give me real peace of mind and more than a mere "sense" of security. There are some small things that I'd like to change. But, those are the kinds of things which simply don't have easy solutions or clear, simple protocols to adopt. You rawk, Signal!! 😎

App is Good, UI is simple and easy to use. My only concern is that I hear lot of echo of voice while making Video calls. The Audio calls are still better. I understand this is a minor issue and hopefully should be fixed in next updates. Also I am not able to send the video in groups. I always get some error.

I love the interface way better than my native app and really wish I could use Signal as my default texting app, but it doesn't always send my longer texts and MMS or media attachments. I don't have a data plan, but MMS messages and media do deliver with my native app. With Signal, things fail to send or receive even when I'm on WiFi.

Love Signal and what it's doing, yet I really wish it would update and improve its UI/UX to be as sleek and attractive as that of TelegramX, as most of my friends are somewhat privacy-conscious, but not enough to prefer Signal over the nice design and animations of TelegramX. Please overhaul your UI (especially, but not only, the dark mode) so I can successfully move my friends to Signal, and give you 5 stars. :) Keep fighting the good fight!

Doesn't work with multi sim phones. My phone has two sims from two different telcos therefore requires two different SMSC apparently. Only the android stock sms app allows input of the two smsc to work correctly. Signal could not read from two smsc, hence one of the line always could not retrieve/receive sms. Going back to stock sms app it is then.

Regarding read receipts, I would very much like to be able to not send them, but still be able to see if others have sent theirs. I'm also not a fan of the lack of colour options for conversations since many of my chats are now the same colour due to the fact they've gone from orange to red with the missing colour options, making it hard to identify at a quick glance.

had it for a week. it did not synchronized the contacts at first. Was not able to contact people in the us using my contact list. I had to ask people in the us innitiate the contact with me first. (I am in EU) All else seem to work good. Will edit my review at a later date to reflect changes of opinion. Meanwhile, I recommend it.

Lag Good secure app. The only thing I'm really disliking is the fact that messages are delayed by sometimes 4 minutes up to 12 hours. Really when this is the case, the app isn't functional. Is this the case with everyone's, or just myself? Originally i couldn't even receive messages when the update transitioned from Secure to Signal. Uninstalled and then reinstall, can receive messages. But the delayed is hidious

As a privacy conscious user, this is my favorite messenger app. It has grown and improved greatly, by now there isn't much one would miss as compared to Whatsapp etc. A few "downsides" I see: 1. I sometimes need to open the app first in order to receive queued messages. 2. Comparatively few friends can be convinced to switch to Signal, especially in countries where barely anyone is concerned about privacy. Whatsapp is just too "strong" in that regard. And the latest update just Rick-rolled me.

I have been using this app on and off since the Snowden revelations. My biggest problem is that when traveling I tend to switch off my wifi and data. This results is secured messages not sending/receiving while being able to send/receive unsecured at all times. I don't know how to remedy this for my situation. Apart from that it works flawlessly so five stars. Like all supposedly secure software we can't be 💯% sure that it is really private in the end.

Just try to send unsecured txt, this app would not let me till I updated, good things I had access to WiFi, it also deleted old txt, when it took over text messaging services, dose not play well with txt services. link preview? don't lock up my text, just to rick roll me, are U 4 real! this app shortcoming are ever growing.

I used to love Signal. It was my primary messaging app, mainly because I could use it both on my phone and on my computer. However for the second time now they have decided to remove all compatibility with Chrome OS, making it so I can not use the app at all on my laptop. Truly disappointing.

This app is very secure and easy to use. However I constantly have issues contacting people whom used to have signal. If the other user at one point used Signal the app detects that and you have to manually send SMS to the person. Otherwise the app still tries to contact them via Signal.

Was a big fan until i was prompted by a full screen ad within the app based on something i had searched for previously. This tells me you are spying on everything i do, and are selling my information on my phone to 3rd parties. The ad was surprising it seemed so out of place and abrupt. I understand you make revenue through marketing but clearly you've stepped over the line of decency. Considering this is an app ppl use for privacy, this seems all the more inappropriate

Edit: Will add one star for every two months I no longer have this problem. Used to be a great app, but for months now I've been having issues with messages either delaying delivery or just never being sent for hours or days. Problems on both sides - sending and recieving. Everything else is great, but until this is fixed it is often unusable and my rating will reflect that.
