Signal’s advanced privacy-preserving technology is always enabled, so you can focus on sharing the moments that matter with the people who matter to you.

• Say anything – State-of-the-art end-to-end encryption (powered by the open source Signal Protocol™) keeps your conversations secure. Privacy isn’t an optional mode — it’s just the way that Signal works. Every message, every call, every time.

• Go fast – Messages are delivered quickly and reliably, even on slow networks. Signal is optimized to operate in the most constrained environment possible.

• Feel free – Signal is a completely independent 501c3 nonprofit. Development is supported by users like you. No advertisements. No trackers. No kidding.

• Picture this – Use the built-in image editing features to sketch, crop, and flip your outgoing photos. There’s even a text tool so that you can add more words to the 1,000 that your picture is already worth.

Reviews From google play store

Good start for a communications application for the digital age of privacy. I've found a few key features lacking based on current available technology, especially with it's companion desktop client. Some more thought/work should go into making it more solid all round. Is there a list of upcoming features listed on Github or anywhere esle?

Coming from google messenger and textra, this is a very good sweet spot. It let's you customize each conversations color and notification tone. But the biggest thing is the privacy aspect. There is a desktop app, but it doesn't sync the conversation. Regardless, it's great that it's all free and gives me the slight peace of mind.

Signal is one of the most easiest apps to use. The only problem i have exprienced is that i can not get to change my notification sound even though i have tried numerous. Can someone help if they know how to please. Overall i would recommend this app to anyone.

Works well, sometimes crashes when browsing gifs, and I don't always get notifications. Galaxy S7 running Android Oreo. 4/16/19 Ok, hit and miss notifications is getting old, hard to keep using. My wife and kids having same problems. Really hope this gets fixed, missed some important messages. Thanks

Free, open source, easy to use, and can't be intercepted. Call quality is great. Bugs: 1. Some people still get late notifications of Signal msgs, 2. I replied to friend's first Signal msg via SMS, but then I could no longer reply via Signal (despite visible safety number) - I had to reinstall to fix, 3. "Share to" dialog bug where back arrow is unresponsive. Also you can't: 1. See the length of calls, 2. Mark msgs as unread, 3. See which network an SMS was sent to until you've had SMS from both

I am really enjoying communicating on this app. I have felt uncomfortable for years about how my words are collected for advertising purposes or any other purpose. I wonder if a joke I say or a personal struggle I have could get taken out of context and used against me in a terrible way. With this app, I feel more like I am entrusting my words to the person I am communicating with instead of a large corporation that does not respect me or anyone else.

i was really enjoying this messenger, i even use it as my standart sms app. After an update, i can't see anymore, who of my contacts is using signal. I'm a little bit disapointed right now. this means minus one star :(. EDIT: the desktop apps updates once a week and needs a long time to load. quite anoying. minus an additional star

works pretty good besides this one big problem, and I've noticed it from my line and from the other persons line. is when you are talking to someone and you get Another call from anyother platform, the person you thought you just put on hold to answer the other call- that person can hear your entire conversation from you And the other person. Thats messed up! please fix this problem

As a cyber security and hacking consultant, I recommend using this app to secure messages and calls. Signal allows me to flirt with my spouse without informing corporations, governments, or criminals. Just remember that if your phone is hacked, using a secure messaging app will not protect you.

overall goid app. i chose it because of the strong encryption. but for the past 3 months I've had trouble gerting kicked off & having my messages disappear randomly, especially when i tried to i stall the desktop version.

Integration with desktop is not optimal (slow). Guess that's the price you have to pay for advanced security. Also the backup of messages is very clunky. You have to manually trigger it. You can only restore backups when reinstalling.

I use signal on my phone & desktop, desperately want it to work on my Android tablet. Also, IMHO Signal NEEDS some kind of privacy (password?) protection so that just unlocking my phone or desktop doesn't give total access to my otherwise private Signal messages. Since Windows doesn't by default encrypt data this is a REAL problem with Signal Desktop. 5 Stars if they fix this 😁

I have encouraged others to use this app, and some of them have experienced a problem where sometimes they don't receive messages until later and when they finally get all the messages they will be out of order but have the correct time stamps. It seems simple to order them correctly. They've also had a problem were messages won't send at all in a group message. We've been working around this by creating a new group.

The only messenger I trust. While other messengers use the Signal protocol, only Signal is developed by a not for profit devoted to privacy. Other messengers may not read your messages, but what about the trust you give them in accessing your contacts, for instance? Functionally, Signal works well and is constantly improving. it also has less of the unnecessary fluff that you see in messengers. It does private messaging, and it does it well.

it is a good. however, it does noy sound on my Moto G when someone else messeges and calls me. Please help. I already restart the phone, activated Safe Mode, went to settings of both phone and app and could not be fixed.

Nice to finally not have to hold the recorder button anymore, and I like the subtle hint with the lock icon, though I do wonder why swipe instead of just tap, to avoid accidentally starting a recording? Also, fair is fair (though late, sorry), you brought dark grey and some better colours, so you got that star back ;)

When Edward Snowden recomended this app, I was all in. Until about 2 months later when MMS stopped working. Can't send to multiple contacts, nor can I respond if there is more than on person listed. Can *sometimes* see pictures, but can't send them. I tried messaging Signal for support. Got ZERO response. This issue also seems to be a known and longstanding issue. - Sure it's great if you can get all the elements to work. but wo/ MMS capabilities, it's of extremely limited usefulness.

I leave four stars for now one reason. Contacts are not functioning, syncing properly to dell laptop, desktop. Sent bug report(s). "Thanks" for the work on this project. Overall, i think a work very well done.

Changed from a 5 star to 3 star review because of occasional server outages, slow delivery of messages, typing Indicators don't work and support doesn't reply to emails. Need ability to delete messages for all like Whatsapp and Viber. Probably 2.5 stars rather than 3 but to give it a 2 is unfair.

Hate that this app aggressively corrects my writing and spelling especially foreign language words. give me an option to opt out of all corrections. I am choosing this app because NYTimes used it or uses it due to end to end encryption.

requires following permissions on your android device.

approximate location (network-based)
Allows the app to get your approximate location. This location is derived by location services using network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine approximately where you are.

precise location (GPS and network-based)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.

view network connections
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.

view Wi-Fi connections
Allows the app to view information about Wi-Fi networking, such as whether Wi-Fi is enabled and name of connected Wi-Fi devices.

create accounts and set passwords
Allows the app to use the account authenticator capabilities of the AccountManager, including creating accounts and getting and setting their passwords.

pair with Bluetooth devices
Allows the app to view the configuration of the Bluetooth on the phone, and to make and accept connections with paired devices.

send sticky broadcast
Allows the app to send sticky broadcasts, which remain after the broadcast ends. Excessive use may make the phone slow or unstable by causing it to use too much memory.

send WAP-PUSH-received broadcast
Allows the app to broadcast a notification that a WAP PUSH message has been received. Malicious apps may use this to forge MMS message receipt or to silently replace the content of any webpage with malicious variants.

directly call phone numbers
Allows the app to call phone numbers without your intervention. This may result in unexpected charges or calls. Note that this doesn't allow the app to call emergency numbers. Malicious apps may cost you money by making calls without your confirmation.

take pictures and videos
Allows the app to take pictures and videos with the camera. This permission allows the app to use the camera at any time without your confirmation.

change network connectivity
Allows the app to change the state of network connectivity.

connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi
Allows the app to connect to and disconnect from Wi-Fi access points and to make changes to device configuration for Wi-Fi networks.

disable your screen lock
Allows the app to disable the keylock and any associated password security. For example, the phone disables the keylock when receiving an incoming phone call, then re-enables the keylock when the call is finished.

Allows access to the list of accounts in the Accounts Service.

find accounts on the device
Allows the app to get the list of accounts known by the phone. This may include any accounts created by applications you have installed.

full network access
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.

change your audio settings
Allows the app to modify global audio settings such as volume and which speaker is used for output.

read calendar events plus confidential information
Allows the app to read all calendar events stored on your phone, including those of friends or co-workers. This may allow the app to share or save your calendar data, regardless of confidentiality or sensitivity.

read your contacts
Allows the app to read data about your contacts stored on your phone, including the frequency with which you've called, emailed, or communicated in other ways with specific individuals. This permission allows apps to save your contact data, and malicious apps may share contact data without your knowledge.

read the contents of your SD card
Allows the app to read the contents of your SD card.

read phone state
Allows read only access to phone state, including the phone number of the device, current cellular network information, the status of any ongoing calls, and a list of any PhoneAccounts registered on the device.

read your own contact card
Allows the app to read personal profile information stored on your device, such as your name and contact information. This means the app can identify you and may send your profile information to others.

read your text messages (SMS or MMS)
Allows the app to read SMS messages stored on your phone or SIM card. This allows the app to read all SMS messages, regardless of content or confidentiality.

read sync settings
Allows the app to read the sync settings for an account. For example, this can determine whether the People app is synced with an account.

run at startup
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.

receive text messages (MMS)
Allows the app to receive and process MMS messages. This means the app could monitor or delete messages sent to your device without showing them to you.

receive text messages (SMS)
Allows the app to receive and process SMS messages. This means the app could monitor or delete messages sent to your device without showing them to you.

record audio
Allows the app to record audio with the microphone. This permission allows the app to record audio at any time without your confirmation.

send SMS messages
Allows the app to send SMS messages. This may result in unexpected charges. Malicious apps may cost you money by sending messages without your confirmation.

set wallpaper
Allows the app to set the system wallpaper.

use accounts on the device
Allows the app to request authentication tokens.

control vibration
Allows the app to control the vibrator.

prevent phone from sleeping
Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep.

add or modify calendar events and send email to guests without owners' knowledge
Allows the app to add, remove, change events that you can modify on your phone, including those of friends or co-workers. This may allow the app to send messages that appear to come from calendar owners, or modify events without the owners' knowledge.

modify your contacts
Allows the app to modify the data about your contacts stored on your phone, including the frequency with which you've called, emailed, or communicated in other ways with specific contacts. This permission allows apps to delete contact data.

modify or delete the contents of your SD card
Allows the app to write to the SD card.

modify your own contact card
Allows the app to change or add to personal profile information stored on your device, such as your name and contact information. This means the app can identify you and may send your profile information to others.

edit your text messages (SMS or MMS)
Allows the app to write to SMS messages stored on your phone or SIM card. Malicious apps may delete your messages.

toggle sync on and off
Allows an app to modify the sync settings for an account. For example, this can be used to enable sync of the People app with an account.

install shortcuts
Allows an application to add Homescreen shortcuts without user intervention.

receive data from Internet
Allows apps to accept cloud to device messages sent by the app's service. Using this service will incur data usage. Malicious apps could cause excess data usage.
