    The app has not been working for at least 3 days. When trying to connect to either of my TVs, The app does the 30 second countdown and then tells me unable to connect turn off and turn back on my TV. or it'll tell me to make sure both my phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network, which they both are always.

    Its a good handy app. But I hate that it takes forever to connect to my device. If I don't have the app open the whole time it takes like 5mins to open and connect to my device. And some times I don't have 5mins to spare. Ex: getting a phone call, having to use the bathroom, got to leave for work ect.

    Very useful, I can listen to what I am watching on TV with headphones on my phone. I can easily show videos and pictures from my phone in the TV

    Though at first there was connection issues, it was fixed immediately the after reseting the app. It does disconnect with some inactivity, but i dont mind simple resynchs. Other than that, super convenient. If you dont mind minuscule, easily fixable interruptions, and you use your phone, or even a finicky remote, this is the app for you. Heads up, you cant hold buttons down so if you could do something with that itd be perfect.

    Very handy tool! It turns your phone into a better remote than the one that comes with your Roku. The app has features that are great additions to any remote. I like how easy and seamless it works with my Roku. I have multiple devices, and this app works them. I think it is cool how the remote app uses the internet connection to opperate. This allows you to control your television even when you don't have a direct line of sight. It is well worth down loading!

    The Roku app is okay, but a few changes would make a big impact. My biggest frustration is text entry in Roku TV apps. Some apps allow text from the keyboard on the Android app, while others don't. It's frustrating. I hate using the TV keyboard for data entry, especially passwords. Roku, please update the development standards for apps to force them to work with your Android app. Until then, I'm using a media PC for streaming. A keyboard is much easier and more secure. Sorry for leaving!

    Sometimes this app works wonderfully and other times it will not. It will tell me to make sure my devices are connected to the same internet/Wifi when they already are. And I am not the only person I know that is having this same problem. Something is not right!! 🤨🤔😠🤬 Update..... The app is still doing this but, now I have to reconnect to my roku almost everytime my phone goes to sleep and that is if the app isn't telling me that it isn't finding a roku device on my internet. Not happy!!!!

    Horrible since new update and as I recall the update before that made it worse too So it's just getting more and more worse! Won't turn my TVs on anymore, never stays connected, absolute pain to get connected in the first place and switching the remote from device to device is a nightmare and even sometimes impossible! i'm normally very adaptable but this is HORRIBLE! And what makes it worse is I have no choice but to use this I'm an extremely loyal customer EVERYTHING in my house is roku!

    Still not fixed! Full of nice features.. that don't work!! Private listening? Nope... Quits after 5 seconds. Media casting, like video? No, doesn't work or formatted wrong, no way to change it, or rotate it. Typing in a different language in the search box? Nope, try again never. Roku, this is a lot of failures for such a mature product.

    Excellent app. Has everything you need to navigate the t.v and has been a lifesaver when my kids have misplaced their remote. The app is easy to use, and I love being able to use my phone/headphones to watch my TV programs. And when you sinc your app with your account, you can not only interact with the TV, but you can also add apps to your television from anywhere from your phone. Excellent app. And free, which is great because many like me don't have the extra money to pay for apps. Thank you.

    In the past few weeks the Roku app has started freezing more often while being used for private listening. When it gets into the state it cannot connect to the Roku player/TV. Exiting and restarting the app is not sufficient to recover: you have to restart your Android device entirely and then run Roku again to get it to work.

    The latest updates have been horrible. Now I have to close the app down after a few minutes of use in order for it to give commands to a Roku Tv. I thought it was my phone, but from a Samsung S7 to a S20, the latest update continued to give the problem. I'll update this review once this issue is fixed.

    I really like this app! I use the remote part of the app way more than the physical remote. I like that it has the voice search. The best thing though, is the private listening. I'm usually watching TV alone, so just using my phone's speaker is great, so my neighbors don't hear it, plus my TV's speaker,( or audio signal because when I plug in my little speaker it does the same thing) sounds "buzzy" on certain sounds, like some men's voices. When I listen through the app it's nice and clear.

    Been really slow lately as well as when trying to turn on the tv it doesnt connect. Itll do things when its already on but I have to get up to turn it on. Also it doesnt work every time I use the app. If I have the app open when watching and I need volume up for example I have to exit out then go back in and connect. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Once in a while I wouldn't mind but if I use the app once, in order to use it again I HAVE to exit out then open it up and connect all over again.

    Love this app it was a quick install and it's very easy to use. I haven't used this app for long but am enjoying this app. I Would recommend this app to anyone with Roku. We were having issues with our remote control and I downloaded this app and it was the solution to our problem until we were able to fix it. It's very convenient and worth downloading.

    I've only used it as a remote. Not bad but the navigation is very touchy. I usually overshoot what I'm aiming for. Update: it was set to use Swipe. I am much happier now that I changed it to Traditional. Updated my rating from 3 to 4. May raise it further after I use it more. I also found some other things in the Settings that I was unaware of. 😁

    I love this app! Sometimes I have connection issues, but overall it's pretty good! My favourite feature is the listen privately option! I can watch while my husband is asleep without bothering him and vice-versa! I do wish they would allow access to the settings on the phone screen rather than having to look at the tv screen to navigate the settings menu.

    I had trouble with the remote that came with the Roku from the beginning. I wondered if it was the unit, my wifi, being too far away from the TV, etc. It was not. This app saved me frustration and batteries. It is responsive and reliable. It does need to be reset regularly, but that takes no effort at all. I am so glad I found it.

    It used to be a great app with being able to connect, use headphones, and type from my phone, but lately it never locates my devices automatically or won't recognize the connection when I enter it manually. Apparently I'm not the only one with these issues lately either. Please fix or explain how to correct then I will change review. Thanks

    Not Great. Re-downloaded it for the in private listening feature because it was previously a garbage app. Thought it was fixed but it's just prettier garbage now. Forget about using bluetooth, the lag is like watching a bad dub. Wired headset is fine when it works. The remote control feature might be the only redeeming feature. The App also likes to randomly disconnect.

    It will effectively control your roku device, but every time I open the app, I have to reconnect. Which takes up to 30 seconds. That doesn't sound too bad, unless you have sleeping children, and you have to quickly adjust the volume. Or if something is unexpectedly inappropriate for said children, and you want to change it. I had a fire stick with a similar remote app, and never had similar problems.

    I was really skeptical about getting this app thinking it won't work. Our Roku remote stopped working (might just needed batteries but didn't have any in hand to test it), and saw that you can get the app on your phone. It works wonderful! The app runs smoothly and I think I like it better than the actual remote for searching because I can use my keyboard rather than going from letter to letter.

    Updated review. The app has improved considerably. And I specially enjoy that I can use my headphones. That one missing star is because you have to be on the same network as the tv to enjoy the app. I wish I could access this app through any wifi connection, anywhere. And have the same access as if watching on my TV.

    This app was great until the newest update. Now it always loses connection, has a ton of lag and the haptic feedback will happen but nothing will register on the tv. But if you turn the TV off an focus the app at all it will turn it back on, which never fails once everyone is asleep and I turn my phone screen on to have a bright screen wake the baby. Please roll this back because the bugs are so unbearable that I just use the regular remote all the time now.

    I was very surprised to see that it worked. My only issue is that when I used the private listening with my headphones plugged into my phone, it would bounce between sound coming through my headphones, then sound through my TV. I don't know if private listening only works for certain headphones? Like wireless/Bluetooth only? I'm about to give my Samsung Galaxy buds a try. 🤞🏻 Hoping they work!

    App was great until last update. Now, I'm unable to access Expert Picture Settings, which is how to calibrate Roku tv's (TCL, etc). App closes as soon as I try. I've uninstalled/reinstalled multiple times to no avail. My calibration reset itself, and I practically need sunglasses to watch sports now, but can't readjust it until I can access that part of the app. Please fix, or I am seriously considering moving to a different platform.

    Good app, better remote since it works from across the room... but if you leave the app open, the next time you unlock your phone it turns the TV back on... yep, just bringing the app back to the foreground causes the TV to turn on! deducted 2 stars for that... also deducted 2 stars because you can't type a number to change the channel on a Roku TV (similarly, Roku TVs max out at 3 stars until the physical remotes get number buttons for changing channels)

    Terrible app. Bought a new roku tv for the bedroom on the understanding I could use private listening through this app. NOT! Garbled sound, lag, feedback, it's awful. Also won't connect half the time and says you don't have a network! If I can't use private listening my new tv is useless as this app. Uninstall, re-install 3 times no difference. Fix this or I'll return tv and get one that has bluetooth!

    When using roku be aware that when it freezes, and it will freeze.. It'll lock whatever action that's being performed. Increasing the volume? Don't worry, frozen roku knows you want your volume at 100%, changing channel, don't worry roku knows you want to endlessly cycle channels until you force quit and restart that app.

    This app has saved us so many times. I have a ROKU television and the only thing I can do directly from the television set is turn it on and off, so when the remote get lost my tv is non operational. So again I love this app because I would lose my hear if it wasn't attached 9/30 update Im giving this 2 stars. Its freezing and not connecting to my television. It does sometimes but its hit or miss

    Great except for the Remote feature. I've paired it with my TV but it just doesn't work at all! Before it wouldd take a minute or two so I reinstalled the app but it doesn't even register what I tap anymore. I've been using this since June 2020 and this has never happened before. Can anyone give me any insight on this matter? Thanks in advance if you do!

    I really liked the ability of private listening. I could watch TV on one of my sleepless nights without disturbing my other half. It all changed with the new update with either the Roku unit or the app but now this app doesn't stay connected to the Roku and private listening is no longer possible. I click the headphone icon and get sound for a few seconds and it shuts off. I restart the app but that doesn't work, switched units and that didn't work either. It's app or firmware, fix it

    Don't bother with this on a Chromebook - When installed on a Chromebook via Google Play it complains on startup that the device has a public-facing IP, which it does not. I'm not sure if the Android environment is NAT-ing the connection, and therefore the Roku app is erroneously assuming a non-reserved IP range of or 10.x.x.x or what. Works OK on Android phone and tablets - just not Android on ChromeOS

    this app used to work well on my same Chromebook and internet service and now all of a sudden it says my IP address is public and will not work but I checked and it's not public and is in 192.168..... range but still doesn't work.really needs to fix this issue,I'm not the only one with this concern.

    This app is great! It's so much more than just a remote! You can also look up any show or movie and it will let you know what streaming service you can watch it on. And if you already gave the streaming app, it will take you right to it. Keep up the good work, Roku!!!

    If I would've know this app were the main way to control my T.V. I wouldn't have bought it. Issues syncing to tv. Even after manually entering ip address. (Update. Now the remote is even smaller and harder to use. I absolutely would never recommend this app if it weren't necessary for TV functionality)

    It works better then my remote and its quiet. It makes it much easier to change the music without waking my animals up. It is a very well designed app and all you have to do to set it up is make sure your device and your TV are connected to the same internet connection. Its very easy

    It's okay overall, but there are some annoyances. I have to restart the Roku remote after a few minutes each time I use it. Also, there's no long press, so I can't rewind long YouTube videos quickly or long press a YouTube video in order to access the hidden menu options from the home page. I can long press from a regular Roku remote and I miss that option when I use this app.

    WAS good, now its useless. Stopped connecting to the device on the network and now tells me that the device isn't even on the network when it is. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and same issue. Since recent changes to the app its had odd little issues but not its flat out useless to me.

    There was an update a while back & since there's this annoying hang time for it to remember it's still connected to my roku... So if a programs been on for a bit & I want to pause for just a moment to talk to someone in the room or skip a scary ad, the moments gone by the time my phone responds... Also, not sure that I liked the change in the layout... Especially since the change in layout was the update that made the longer loading times... And I'd rather a simpler app that loads well.

    If I could put 0 stars I would. This app doesnt even work. The app shows how you can use your phone as the remote when you have to turn it on with the roku remote to connect to the roku. You even have to connect every time you start up your roku. But BY FAR the worst thing about this app is the blue tooth just dont even try every half a second it cuts outs producing a horrible sound. 0 out of 10.

    It's sometimes hard to figure out how to get the Roku screen itself to accept the information typed in using the app on your mobile device, but when it does, it's a great time saver. I've used it with a Roku 2XS, 3 and a 4. Pairs easily from my various mobile devices (Asus, Motorola, HTC). Maybe a bit busy in the options, but that might just be me not taking the time to look through everything.

    Don't know what you people did this time. Why does the remote keep turning my phones wifi off? Why, after turning the wifi off does it complain about no network? My Roku box is plugged into the router. The only thing that has network problems is this app. Why do updates seem to break more than they help? As soon as I close this app my phone automatically reconnects to the network, so why can't your app stay connected? It just needs to be a simple remote, stop trying to over complicate things.

    I highly recommend getting a Roku and this app, they are so awesome paired together :) Edit: 08/16/2020 Very glitchy since the last two updates, the sound breaks up frequently and will on occasion completely cut out all sound and the app needs to be completely closed out and restarted along with the device unplugged and replugged in and rebooted, this happens about every three to four days. Edit: 9/11/2020 Fix this app, it is even worse than ever. I would give it zero stars now if possible >:(

    I liked the previous version better and even that one was iffy. After a few minutes it would loose connection and tell you to reconnect. Annoying but i guess you get used to it. Now, it keeps the remote up giving you the idea its connected but really its not. Also, the layout is awful. I'm sorry, it is. But I do like the channel option at the bottom.

    It's function has been seemingly seamless after needing due to the physical roku remote stopped working for no apparent reason. Makes me wonder if the physical remote was programmed to cease function to help guide me to dowmload something else to my phone/ could have launched a rocket into space 40 years ago pocket super computer and the retainer of my sole existence?

    I used to enjoy the Roku app, it was convenient, but now it is not. The new update took away my ability to turn off and on my tv. Now I can only turn it off, and sometimes the remote doesn't even want to connect to the tv, despite being on the exact same internet.

    Works fine. I like using the remote on my 7 year old 10inch Sony tablet. The, ain reason for downloading this app was to take advantage of private listening. However this didn't work as good as I hoped. The audio is always out of sync with the video rrgardless of the streaming app I use. Im using my nee Galaxy Buds Live. I'll change to 5 stars if Roku can ever get this fixed.

    Lost my remote and can't find it anywhere. Downloaded this app and when my TV sits idle the remote app will no longer work for the TV. It just says "Waking Device" and then times out. Also I find it very strange that you can turn the TV off with the app but can't turn the TV on.

    I love Roku. I have wifi but was watching tv from a regular outside antenna. We was lucky to watch maybe 8 to 10 channels and they were daily reruns. Roku offers tons of free channels and great pakage deals on movie channels. It is easily set up and automatically detects your wifi and devices and the remote control is simple to figure out and use. My cable bill is 250.00 cheaper a month than the cable company offered me to hook them up with basic channels and a couple movie channels for an HD tv

    This is great to mess with your kids so automatically 5 stars. Odd benefit is the app is quiet compared to the remote clicking noise. I watch most television at night when others are sleeping. This makes it quick and easy to find everything I'm looking for.

    New updates seem to have improved the app. Private Listening drops intermittently. Only reason I use this app is to switch to private listening from my TCL Roku tv. But the audio quality is sub-par (can live with it) and the audio cuts off for a few seconds every 30sec or so. Really a bummer when you have to lip read parts of dialogues. Update - tried toggling all battery and optimization settings. Problem still persists. Update.had to buy a Bluetooth transmitter

    Ever since the last update, connecting to Roku devices has incredibly inconsistent. Sometimes it says the device is asleep (it isn't), sometimes it says the device isn't on the same network (it is). This flaw was not present for me on any previous iterations of the app, and it pretty much makes it impossible to use the app as an every day remote for my Roku devices.

    This latest update and revision is buggy. If you turn off the phone screen and lock the phone, then decide to come back with the Roku remote app already on your screen, button presses do not register until you go back and find the already registered device again, then it'll work again. What a giant pain in the ass!!!! A code to automatically find the most recently used decide should be cross checked to work again without having to go through the menu every time you close your screen.

    Since the latest update of the Roku app, I've noticed two significant problems. First, the private listening mode doesn't work anymore; the sound has a significant delay and is broken up. I've tried the app on my phone and my tablet with both wired earbuds and Bluetooth headphones, and the issue is only with this app across all devices. It makes it impossible to use headphones with my Roku TV. Second, if I use the remote in the Roku app, there is about a ten-second delay before the TV responds.

    This app used to be fine, worked as it should have, then it updated. It was supposed to "streamline" and make things easier to use. (It was already easy to use) Now it's a pain. There is a significant delay in response from when you tap a button to when the roku responds. It is now slow to open, slow to load, just slow slow slow. So frustrating.

    Great App!! My wife works from home, answering calls. The television was distracting her. I was going to buy a wireless headphone system, but found this app. It allowed me to send the sound from the television to my phone. I can just plug in my corded headphones or bluetooth headsets for hours of uninterrupted listening. I can also control the Roku functions with my phone.

    So many lost remotes! I use the physical remote by touch 👋 only; sans peepers 👀. No unlocking 🔓 my phone that I retrieved 🏃 from the other room where it was charging 🔌. The app is the only alternative SO it must be the best alternative. ;-) Accessing the "Expert Picture Settings" causes the app to crash 💥.     The app was OK before, but now it is just terrible. It has shrunk the wonderful remote screen by half with stuff placed there for "ease of use". I loved the app for it's simplicity of the remote, even if it made me reconnect 50+ times a day, I could still easily press play, pause or home. Please make hideaway pop ups for these or make it optional in settings so that the simple twice the size remote is back for those who want and or need it!! I see it as broken

    This app used to be a godsend to my family, especially my son who was disabled in a motorcycle accident. The large buttons on the screen gave him the ability to navigate ROKU by himself with light touches. With the new app, it takes forever to connect, frequently looses connection, and the buttons are now too small for him to accurately interact with. The rest of the family is having similar problems with the tiny buttons, but for us it is just a frustration. UX design at ROKU obviously does not care about customers with disabilities.

    Used to be a good alternative to replacing the remote, but the latest update that supposedly makes it easier to access the remote actually makes it more difficult. The remote used to be accessed right at the starting screen, now I have to navigate to find it and it's much smaller. How is that easier? It also constantly disconnects now, and if "are you still watching" pops up, I have to close and reopen the app for it to connect again, which means the show stops and goes to the Roku home screen.

    The UI took a step back. They state that the remote is easier to access and use. Yeah, no. I have to use two hands now because they moved the remote button to the top right of the screen rather than in the middle right by your thumb. They also shrunk the remote pad so you have reach into the top 1/3 of your screen. Talk about thumb strain. If the the intention was to get people off of the couch to grab the real remote, than this was a brilliant change.

    The Roku app for Android seems to handle pretty much everything I might otherwise do with the remote, though I haven't yet figured out how to mute or change volume on the TV. (That may not be possible since it's a separate device.). My favorite? Title searches are quick and easy using direct input from the phone's keypad. No more >>>^^©. Yaaayyy!!!

    This app is very convenient, especially when you don't recall where you set your remote, or you know where your remote is, but you'd have to get up to get it (i mean, most of us always have picture phones within reach), or if you want to search for a movie or show (i only wish all the apps supported using the phone keyboard, but that's not Roku's fault that other composites don't know how to implement that feature when they make the app to be included in the channel line up).

    This latest update made things worse. It loses connection every time your phone screen turns off, so you have to reconnect whenever you want to do anything. Also, the new remote control screen makes the controls even smaller, which makes hitting the right button harder than the previous version. I don't need quick access to my recent channels on the remote, so give me back the screen space! Keep it simple!

    I love it, the only things i hope they fix is on the older version i was able to turn the tv on via this app over wifi when it was off, but since the update it wont connect to the tv unless its already on so kinda defeats the purpose if i want to watch tv and can't find the remote and the other is when on private listening i wish it would hold the connection without having to leave the screen on and app open. If i leave the app or turn the screen off it will stop working after a few minutes

It also lets you choose what movie or show you want to watch and then puts it on your roku device.     What I like most about the Roku app is its search feature. It's much easier to type a name on my phone than on the Roku screen. It not only finds my movie or show, it also tells me which channels have it. I can just click on the channel and it takes me straight to whatever I searched for. It's very convenient. The only problem is when my movie is on Netflix. In that case, it opens the Netflix app on my phone instead of bringing it up on my TV. I have no idea why. Otherwise, it's a great app.

    Terrible upgrade! App is completely ruined for all the reasons already noted in other reviews. I don't like any of it, especially that it disconnects from my internet every 3 minutes. It always disconnected, but now it's worse. Constantly hitting pause, record and headphone just trying to change the channel.

    Why change it!? The update was good, but when it cam to the remote control it went down hill. The made the arrows smaller, and put them closer together. When scrolling down I hit the microphone button at least 15 times a day. The bottom of the screen only has two buttons that and they tell you if you're on the remote or the channel. Put the channels at the top and slide everything down.

    Used to be good, new version is terrible. If you lock your screen then unlock it, the app losses connection to the remote. You have to always reconfirm the remote you last used. This was never a problem before. Also, the mic button is too close to the D Pad so you end up hitting the mic button way more than you used to. Please revert the app...

    New update is very glitchy. It often tells me my device isn't connected and then takes forever to connect. Before it was almost instantaneous upon opening the app. I've been frustrated but patient. I know massive new changes rarely go smoothly but its terrible lack of responsiveness is an issue. What prompted me to write this review right now is my husband got a phone call and for the life of me I couldn't get the app to pause. The button did nothing. I just had to mute our tv.

    This update is horrible. It rarely stays connected to my Roku anymore, even though it appears to. It is requiring me to close and restart the app to reconnect. The buttons are tiny, hard to reach on a large screen phone and no way to enlarge them. If they have the remote the way it used to be with a slide up drawer for more options then it could be workable, but they still need to fix the ghost connection issues before it could be good again. Roku you can do better.

    yup, it is what it says it is. I woke up today and the app atomaticaly updated itself and I don't like the new interface. The buttons I need big are tiny and out of the way with HUGE new versions of not needed ones. I use this app at 2am when the last thing I need to focas on is if I accidentally blutoothed my show to the living room. I want to go back but the only way to do that would mess with my TV and that's not good.

    Spotty. The option to use the remote from my phone is great except that often it doesn't work. I will use the remote to put on a movie and meanwhile use another app. When I switch back to the remote it says to select a device and when I do, it isn't able to find my device or that it isn't on my network when it is as I'm literally streaming a movie. I tried exiting the app and restarting, I tried restarting my phone and finally I chose forget device and now it's not even picking up my TV. Awful!

    Crashes on Expert Picture Settings. Tried on two different Android devices (Nexus 5x and Nexus 7). Tried with two different video streams (Hulu and HBO). In all cases the app crashes when entering expert picture settings. It's also the only way I can get to those settings on my TV.

    At least they made the remote slightly bigger (after "updating" it to be obnoxiously small), but still opens to a garbage ad page instead of the remote, and even worse, it prevents you're screen from turning off (NOT optional!) so your battery will drain unless you manually close the remote every time you're done. Keep trying, Roku.

My remote does not work anymore and my roku got reseted well now I can not use my roku stick since I cant set it up.     I want to like this app but I have a few issues with it. If it's running in the background it randomly opens and crashes my other apps that I was using. Also when I am I using it it makes you go back to the home page and then back into the remote and I'm only trying to use the remote so it's annoying.

    You can't remove channels with this app. The only way to remove channels from the menu is to use the Roku remote that came with the Roku device. Which is clunky. Organizing the menu should be as easy as organizing the menu on the Android home screen.

FYI most people don't use the voice remote. We all just want a remote that's it, you have to now navigate just to get to the remote.

It frequently disconnects from the Roku when I switch apps and has to be reset before I can pause or start a program. I get the idea of making things easier to find, and the new channel picker is nice, but the basic remote functions are far worse than before.

I like going straight to the control pad and using the channel button to see my top three for "faster" access. But the freezing and dropping can quickly become aggravating.

    I haven't used the remote yet, but I've been looking for the Roku Channel store in the app, and cannot find it anywhere. Went to my computer and checked online and they mention that there is supposed to be access to it. It used to be accessible from the phone app and it was great, and easier in some ways to find new channels on the Roku cell phone app then it was on the tv.

    I love having Roku App on my phone and in my home. When lose my remote I can use my phone instead, When I leave the room or when spouse is sleep I can listen to the TV without her knowing. I just like to have more of the Private Listening as of when the Roku TV is on you can watch it on your phone Screen when it's connected. Like for example you leave the room to go in the kitchen.     Terrible app. If I lock my phone, the app will bug out and even disconnect sometimes. I always use private listening because i watch at night and i dont want to wake anyone but again as soon as i lock my phone, audio will cut in and out and eventually disconnected resulting in the volume blasting on my TV waking everyone up. Makes it very hard to enjoy a movie when you constantly have to reconnect the remote every 5 minutes.

If my TV is off and I light up my phone, TV powers on by itself without command. Casting media freezes phone, can't tell what I'm playing when it does load because I can't see name of the file on my phone. Hate that the remote button is on top. Hard to use holding my phone one-handed. TV powering on by itself is worse that I'm uninstalling and looking for an alternate

It's very clear that Roku wants you to see the shows and advertisements on the front page.     Even after I return my device to the home page, exit the remote in the app, close the app, and turn off my TV, the app continues heavily consuming power all night, so I wake up to find the phone battery that was full when I went to bed is half empty in the morning.     Prior to the recent update with the new interface and categories, I would've given a 4 star rating no problem. But since the update I've seen a huge increase in poor ratings. I lag when using the app constantly now and it takes me 2 to 3 minutes to turn down the volume from 100 to 0 purely because of the lag with the remote and the tv.     Update has the original flaws and new annoyances too. I have one Roku TV. Why do I have to select that device from a menu of 1? And why can I not just have the default open screen be the actual remote? It should open to the remote directly if that is what you want. With the update the various buttons are smaller, that's a step backwards. It could be so much better.

    I like this update and I don't at the same time. I like it because most controls actually work for me now, the smart view finally works as well as the voice search and keyboard, but the layout is not the best, I keep accidentally pressing the voice search or the home button when I press the arrows and it's annoying, it would be nice if the app gave us options to change the layout of the remote, that is the only thing I would suggest to be changed.

    Unsubscribing from a lot of apps on the roku are unclear and the charges go through roku and not the app you are using. If you call costumer service, they are not taking calls because of covid 19. Making extra difficult to receive up and cancel a subscription you dont want and get charged for. I hightly do not recommend because of the lack of understanding and helpful on roku part, makes it feel like its a marketing technique ment to scam you out of you mom. Extremely unfortunate and sad.

    7/17/20. I now gotta reconfigure my network? Because my IP Address isn't what Roku wants(172/192/10)! I use 7.x.x.x seriously wth wrong? App acts like it's either advertising or doesn't know what to do. Eg: Reproduce turn off Wi-Fi. open app click remote tab. Click connect & watch app. App constantly flips back to main tab. Sm. Issue #2 is widget doesn't work right. It launches app nearly everytime. The reason I'm making a big deal is hygiene.

    New remote redesign is horrible. Used to be quick to access and big buttons. Now it takes more taps to get there and the moved all the actual remote buttons to the top 60% of the screen and they took away the remote shortcut at the bottom. Nothing like an all around worse user experience. Guess they're trying to replicate Google's design philosophy.

Tells me the IP address of the unit is incorrect, it is correct of course. I've wasted hours and hours on this POS. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times.... come on Roku...     I used to love this app, but with the newest update, I now hate it. The earlier design was much more straightforward, and the buttons we're much bigger and easier for me to use. My hands tend to shake a lot, and this has caused me to become frustrated when trying to use the app with smaller buttons.

    The questions I answered for this were not accurate. This app, will control a smart TV that has roku enabled software. It will also control a roku unit. I have both. I really like the roku headphones option. It does cut out a bit, but not so much that I have a problem with it. I have a roku remote with a headphones jack and it doesn't work as well as this app on my phone. I connect Bluetooth headphones to my phone and my wife sleeps through the action movies. Great app. It also controls my TV.

    New Roku Update blows. Cant tell you how many times the app just freezes. Takes too long to connect to a device where before it was just instant. There is input lag from the app to the device after the update. I can spend 15 minutes attempting to get the the show I want, because the input controls are so bad now. What if we made that part of the screen, like, 40% smaller, so we could fill the bottom half of the screen with a bunch of buttons nobody is going to use? I also accidentally hit other buttons cos for some damn reason we had to add extra buttons as well as shrink them????? The set up also seems extremely pointless if you only have one ruko device🙄.     Icons are not labeled, making it difficult to find a function. It was weeks before I found the way to cast media, and Support was no help. Selection menus show pictures but no names. For example, the menu to cast videos shows only the first frame of each video, which more often than not does not tell me what the video is. There is no obvious way to get more info; tap & hold does nothing and there don't seem to be any display options.

    Better than the actual remote with one little problem: It drains the battery out of whatever you are using faster than any other app except for the flashlight. Nice to press the screen view so I don't have to return home from a streaming service or HDMI to use another. Just press the screen and it pops up. It'd be nice if the Roku channel wasn't a base screen before selecting the remote. It should be able to be switched off to save battery. Maybe a battery save mode in the future.

    7/16/202 update made this app totally worhless to me. When I start program, it says "IP address not supported. We detected that your device is currenty connected to a public IP address that is not supported. Please ensure that both your mobile phone and device have an IP address in one of the following ranges: 192.168.x.x, or 172.16.x.x or 10.x.x.x". When I hit OK the program closes. Nothing on my network has changed. This needs to be fixed. It worked before. Not happy.

It's been like this for roughly a week and I'm upset you guys haven't rolled out a decent version with much needed fixes.     The update sucks, there is this weird thing at the bottom that wont go away, everything got 3× smaller bc of it, when you click out of it and go back in you have to reconnect to the TV and its REALLLLLYYY fricking annoying I HATE the new update. Please fo back to the old version. I love that I have the remote because I lost my remote and I've looked everywhere for it, so I use my phone. PLEASE GO BACK TO THE OLD ROKU REMOTE.

    The functionality on the new remote is fine and the private audio mode with headphones works as well. Others have complained about the smaller buttons, but I like the added functionality of the "recent" channel scroll. All things considered, the new update is better than the previous version.

    It doesn't work. I've had this app for months only use it when the tiny roku remote is missing. I have the same internet router modem ect yet it NEVER remembers my device and since the last update is shows there's non on the network.... the same network it's been on for months suddenly no longer exists. Why can't roku put buttons on the TV? I miss being able to walk to my tv press a button and be able to watch the tv I pay good money for instead of being SOL bc app and remote both go MIA.

    This app is useless to me and I'm sure others. If your box is on the network via ethernet, the app will not connect to the box. App only recognizes Wi-Fi networks. It needs to have the ability to recognize the device when it's direct wired to your network. Fix this!!! I have uninstalled this. Until this problem is fixed, it's useless to me. Do you hear that dev's?

    I had to edit from 5 star review to a 2 star. The update is the reason. I do not like the new layout. It should be able to operate using one hand. I uninstalled this app and replaced it with iRoku. Interface is user friendly and all my apps are also accessable from the app. I don't have to go through them individually on the TV. Check it out guys you might like it better.

    I like it but there are several things that is annoying. I do not like the new update it's too small I was confused because I couldn't find the remote for the longest time I like the other version and the audio doesn't work it will cut out it will also say I have no WiFi when my phone is connected also I will be using it and it would go to the home area I would really like if you fixed it

    Very convenient for messing with my kids when they're watching a show! This app would be perfect but for two flaws. First, the remote isn't the first thing that comes up when you open the app. Not a huge inconvenience, because it's literally one tap to pull it up. No, really. It's a single button. Relax, harsh reviewers. My second and biggest complaint is that the movies and shows you see in the app don't have the option to play on the tv. You have to find them on the tv to play them.

    For goodness sake Roku, all this has to be is a bloody remote! When I open the app, give me the bloody remote, first! I don't care about the other stuff at. all. just give me the remote! Instead, what do I get? A screen full of content ideas, and the remote button alllllllllll the way up on the top out of ready thumb reach! At least (?) it's on the top right, and not the top left, so... Thank you...? Default to the remote for the last device used, and it's a clear path to 5 🌟!

    It used to work well, a solid four stars... The last update is terrible. The remote is much smaller, loses connection forcing a restart of the app to make it work again, and some of the functions that were nice no longer work ( power control on the tv being the one we used the most). I am very frustrated at how bad the last update made this app.

    I was grateful for the previous App from Roku. It saved me during the weeks when I couldn't figure out what was wrong with my remote, and had features that came in handy while I shopped for a replacement for my malfunctioning original device. I am new to this version, and I'm adjusting to the changes in this mobile App's layout slowly, but hope soon I will be just as happy as I have been with my Roku TV, and the previous App I have used.

    The remote control is really the only part of the app I use. I wish they would roll it out as a standalone app on its own. The redesigned remote is harder to use than ever. I think the designers went with something that looked good on paper rather than designing for how a human being holds a mobile device and interacts with an app. The most important functionality is hardest to reach and all the junk you rarely use and don't care about gets prominent placement. The redesign killed it.

    The update that only had a normal roku controller and a button to switch tv's was simple and easy to learn. This new update sucks. It stops working on my tv after i press it around 6-10 times and then i have to unplug it and replug it over and over again just for it to work for 6-10 button presses, it has a few more buttons and the "remote" is way smaller than the oldish version. Before this newer update i was stuck on the swipe remote for 3 months and i hated it at the start.Please fix the app

    Remote just ok. You would think it would have #"s on it. And when you try to use the voice remote on your subscriber network it doesn't work. It only works with Roku selections. Big bummer. This is what needs to change the most.

    The app works just how I hoped it would. It's a free app, so I understand it'll need ads, but they are placed well, and don't interfere with using the remote. I've used it on three different TV's including one Roku box, and two Roku TV's.

    Great app. The only think I want to add is than in the media cast feature inside the app, I think it'll better if the video option of selecting from your phone, you can see the title of the video or select the folder of which the video is saved.

    So much BETTER then 🔥 stick, allows the spectrum app and SO MANY other features that fire stick doesn't have or offer, not to mention for a better price! My favorite one is the ability to listen to your tv through your phone so you don't disturb the whole room. It's just a great and better app all around!#TeamRoku

    The remote in the app stops working all the time. I usually have to un-install app and re install in order for it to hook up to the TV. Also the TV disconnects from the wifi for no reason and it makes it hard to reconnect to it.

    I really like the Roku but i can't find where it shows where the subscriptions are. It seems that someone in my house hold purchased some channels and I wouldn't know about them till they came out if my bank account. Then to get them removed is very time consuming.

    Man it had five stars until the new update. Only reason I have this app is cause my dog ate my remote. The way it shows up now with the update and now my phone's not working right cause it takes up my screen. Second of all I can't even see it so I'm just pissed more than anything else. I do not like this new update!!!!

    Our first experience with Roku was a 55in TV purchase a few years ago and it has been a great experience, it's almost like having a computer for a TV. Now with our cable bill going higher each month, we decided to make all of our TV's smart TV's by installing Roku. First we tried the Roku express but unless you are on a very tight budget and don't mind the low picture quality, along with the minimalistic remote, then I suggest you get the Roku Streaming Stick+HD/4k/HDR. It's around $49.00+tax!

    How many times a day can this app possibly crash!?? I sometimes wish I didn't lose my actual remote. This app is more of a headache than it's worth and it's completely unreliable. I tried fast forwarding past something inappropriate and instead was forced to watch the whole disgusting scene because the remote completely froze and didn't do anything. What's even worse is the app freezes, you close it out and open it again, only to find the app is not responding so you have to close it again!

    What is the point of an update if the private listening wasn't fixed. It's cutting out worse and worse every single day. I should not have to restart an app every three seconds just to listen to my tv. This app was great but with private listening in such bad conditions it's intolerable. Fix the private listening please.
