Element is both a secure messenger and a productivity team collaboration app that is ideal for group chats while remote working. This chat app uses end-to-end encryption to provide powerful video conferencing, file sharing and voice calls. - Advanced online communication tools - Fully encrypted messages to allow safer corporate communication, even for remote workers - Decentralized chat based on the Matrix open source framework - File sharing securely with encrypted data while managing projects - Video chats with Voice over IP and screen sharing - Easy integration with your favourite online collaboration tools, project management tools, VoIP services and other team messaging apps Element is completely different from other messaging and collaboration apps. It operates on Matrix, an open network for secure messaging and decentralized communication. It allows self-hosting to give users maximum ownership and control of their data and messages. Element protects you from unwanted ads, data mining and walled gardens. It also secures all your data, one-to-one video and voice communication through end-to-end encryption and cross-signed device verification. Element gives you control over your privacy while allowing you to communicate securely with anyone on the Matrix network, or other business collaboration tools by integrating with apps such as Slack. To allow more control of your sensitive data and conversations, Element can be self-hosted or you can choose any Matrix-based host - the standard for open source, decentralized communication. Element gives you privacy, security compliance and integration flexibility. You decide where to keep your data and messages. Without the risk of data mining or access from third parties. Element puts you in control in different ways: 1. Get a free account on the matrix.org public server hosted by the Matrix developers, or choose from thousands of public servers hosted by volunteers 2. Self-host your account by running a server on your own IT infrastructure 3. Sign up for an account on a custom server by simply subscribing to the Element Matrix Services hosting platform You can chat with anyone on the Matrix network, whether they’re using Element, another Matrix app or even if they are using a different messaging app. Real end-to-end encryption (only those in the conversation can decrypt messages), and cross-signed device verification. Messaging, voice and video calls, file sharing, screen sharing and a whole bunch of integrations, bots and widgets. Build rooms, communities, stay in touch and get things done. Stay in touch wherever you are with fully synchronised message history across all your devices and on the web at https://app.element.io Element Android is an open source project, hosted by GitHub. UPDATE: Yay! 1.22 fixed the crash I was having under Android 5. -------------- Worked great until the last update. Now any time I click on a room, it crashes. I have tried reinstalling, deleting data, etc. to no avail,

I'm giving five stars as an encouragement, the progress since when I used it few years ago is massive and I love this project. I hope it continues like this and that it gets more adoption, this is the right spot between privacy, openness, flexibility and the need to do business. Still some polishing and improvements are needed but as of today I wouldn't feel bad using it as my main messenger app. Unfortunately the user base is still limited, quite a long way to go to reach the masses.

I installed this app again to see if anything has changed, alas no. When I make an audio/video call there is no ringing (ringback) sound so I can not tell if it is connecting. When I receive all call it rings once at best so I miss all calls. This only happens on my S5 phone. Sent bug reports, reinstalled, cleared cache etc. problem persists so uninstalled. So glad you changed the name of this decentralised app. Riot conjured up all the wrong impressions.

The app is really good for what it needs to do, but there are times when it gets corrupted and my girlfriend and I both experience this. Then you have to uninstall it and reinstall it, kind of inconvenient.

A handful of quiks. All notifications are silent. The back button works in mysterious ways. No contact integration. Etc.

I love the security and features of this app. Wish some of the bugs are ironed out in the future though.

A few bugs, but overall fantastic for E2E group chats. Integrated encrypted video calling is a very nice touch.

The app is quite nice, and aside from rarelt crashing when someone sends a message (the occurences are weeks apart), I've never had any problems with it. Some of the / commands are exclusive to certain versions (i.e., polls are Android only, / commands don't work at all for iOS mobile according to my friends, some commands are only on PC), but otherwise I have no complaints.

Used to be a good app, used it more than any other chat client, worked great to share files with a group of people, but now it just constantly has errors, fails to send files, and then I reported a bug and my account on matrix was deleted without any notice or info. Currently stuck unable to load any images or other files and can only send text messages before the app freezes and then crashes.

Takes time to make it work the way you want it but it's wort the effort considering it is free product. E-mail notification only supports tls 1.1 and couldn't get SMS setup to work in self hosted version. Would be nice to be able to call two or more people at once with push call notification instead video conference link. Still it might be jitsi limitations, design. Also there is no option to reset passwords nor remove deprecated accounts from list for admins. Other than that best in its range.
