This app just can't make an accurate track. As I walked up a long and straight street, the app had my pictures placed 200 yards on each side. The track was a zigzag pattern. I tried it numerous time. Then it began to stop.working--only recording two to four points. I have tried it on an iPhone and a Google Pixel. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I am tired of trying to get this one to work I can correlate my pictures in many other ways with a more accurate track made by other hiking apps.

I really wish the actual tagging could be done on the phone. I'd be able to connect my camera's SD card, tag them, and upload them, reducing the risk of losing shots from my mirrorless

I paid for the original app, and upgraded. Website says $7.99 for full version, and 50% ($3.99) off for people that already own the app. Then why is it asking $8.99 for upgrade? is more than full version? update: ok, so the info on your website blog is incorrect. thanks for clearing it up.

fantastic app and great user interface on Android, IOS and Windows 10 Desktop. tested it today at various locations and correct location stores on all photographs. excellent fast support should you need any questions answering. this is one of the best apps I have installed in last 12 months and has saved me investing in a camera with in-built gps which is hard to find these days due to the battery drain. get this app its fantastic

I can't overstate how useful Geotag Photos Pro 2 is for me. I travel and I hike and spend much extra time taking reference shots with my phone (for Geotagging) only to then spend hours copying over the GPS data in Lightroom to pictures taken with my DSLR. Geotag works flawlessly with both Sony RAW formats. It’s a huge time savings when you've got 1,000s of images from weeks of travel, visiting several sights per day. I just load my images onto my PC, open the Geotag GPX file with the PC application and sidecar files magically appear in seconds. Geotag has also allowed me to move completely to Capture One from Lightroom as C1 doesn't allow editing GPS directly, but it uses the sidecar files. Lightroom users can load the Geotag Photos GPX file into Lighroom directly. Kudos …6 Stars!

After seeing the cost of a Canon GPS unit, I hoped I'd find some other way to add geotags, didn't expect it to be this easy. A few clicks during my import and cull stage and then import the tagged photos into Lightroom. Did 2 test trips then bought the licence, well worth a place in my toolkit and workflow!

Great for getting GPS data for cameras that don't have the functionality. More people needs to know about this.I was listening to a photography podcast. They had no idea something like this exists.

  8. Nigel Desmond-avatar

Have just moved from a camera that has built in GPS to one without so I need something to maintain my work flow. This app appears to meet my needs. It's an extra procedure but is automatic for the most part

Really beautiful app and easy to use. Unfortunately doesn't allow marking waypoints, which would be really helpful when shooting film or to remember special landmarks.

My 'go to' geotagging app for the last 4 years. It's never let me down. Pro v1 was good but v2's better: far, far more accurate especially in built up areas. Also continuous mode, clearer UI, more accessible clock for syncing cameras. Responsive developer. Updates have addressed battery life issues using continuous mode. The web upload of gpx files = easy downloading to the PC for use in Lightroom. Love it.

Completely unreliable in comparison to the version 1 pro, which is excellent and has never let me down. I still use version 1 on another device. V2 stops recording without warning, and doesn't resume.

If your camera lack GPS, use this. It's the perfect solution short of a high-priced Nikon (or whatever) dongle. I had the previous version and since it was OK I didn't understand the need for a new version. Now that I've used it I'm quite pleased with the automated tracking and the seamless encoding of GPS information. I think the negative reviews are simply the product of people not paying attention to what they're buying, or not reading the directions. This app couldn't be easier to use and it works flawlessly. IT'S FOR GEOCODING Photos, folks, YOU DOWNLOAD A PC APP TO USE IN TANDEM WITH IT!

  36. Bjarte Aune Olsen-avatar

    Bjarte Aune Olsen

I have too many problems with errors in the logs for this to be a proper solution. The app uploads more than one log file for each trip, and splits the trip into several in the gpx files. Usually all the data is there (at least as far as I can see), but I have to manually edit the gpx files every single time to get the desktop app to accept them. I will instead look for another app to log my trips and create the gpx files and use your excellent desktop app to tag the photos. – EDIT: I now realised your desktop app doesn't accept GPX files from other apps than your own. So I'm using GPS Logger for Android and GeoSetter for Windows instead.

  37. Phil-avatar

App does what it says and it does it well, I'm impressed by the negative reviews of people not understanding what the app is for. I use this to geotag when take pictures of my city and so can quickly tag the location through lightroom.

  38. Kenneth Jones-avatar

I thought I was purchasing a geotag app. Once I paid the small amount it asked for another nine pounds. I paid that and the app doesn't even tag my photos with MGRS coordinates. Very disappointing and fell ripped off.

  39. Dave Janzen-avatar

    Dave Janzen

Wouldn't work in Lightroom 6.14 and gpx files won't open in Base Camp or Map Source. Not going to buy the pro version unless the free one at least does the basics.

Won't geotag existing photos which is the whole reason I downloaded it. Why do I need an app on my phone to geotag photos I take on my phone? Just turn on location services. Waste of time.

I have used this program a few times. I geo tag my images just after I copy the files from my camera. Then in Lightroom they are ready to be seen on the map module. I use the PC program to tag files.

Nach erstem App-Update waren alle bis dahin aufgenommenen Trips gelöscht. Von den übrigen Trips wurde bei ca. 50 von 800 Fotos ein Standort zugeordnet. Eine Vielzahl hiervon allerdings falsch...

I use this app everytime I use my mirrorless cameras. It works almost every time and with ease. The only problem is it makes my galaxy s7 edge very hot and kills the battery pretty quickly, it also freezes and requires a force close every so often. But overall does exactly what it is supposed to and am reasonably happy with it.

  51. Ramiro Garcia-avatar

    Ramiro Garcia

I bought the full version and it has a strange bug that I never noticed in the free version. Once the phone is locked the accuracy lowers a lot and the tracking points go from every 10 seconds to about 40 seconds. Waking up the device causes de app to work flawlessly. Not sure if it's the OS (Android 7.0) that takes cycles away from the app or what. But it definitely tracks time different with the screen off and on

  52. Sean Thurston-avatar

I've used the Pro v.1 app for years and have always raved how great it is for the function. This is no exception. Nice work. For less than a good cup of coffee, is worth the upgrade. Edit: as of June 2016 all I get is crashes. LG G4. I'm going back to version 1 it never failed me and the functionality was flawless.

  53. Foil Cap-avatar

The desktop app cannot be opened by Mac OSX without changing the security settings to allow applications from any source. Changing this setting defeats one of the main advantages and reasons to use Apple products: security, protection against malware. Even if you change the security settings and open the app, it asks for additional open source packages. The whole installation process looks very unprofessional. If you cannot do it right on Apple products - don't offer the product on that platform.

  54. Paul Coles-avatar

Fantastic GPS tagging app. Works really well, doesn't destroy the battery. You can do a log per day, or just keep pausing and recording, it's all sorted by day in the gpx file. I load the tracks into Lightroom, so I can't comment on any of the other functionality.

I have purchased the previous version and now would like to purchase the newest version but it only allows me pay the FULL price. I have reached out to customer support of which they claim it is a Google issue. I have reached out to Google and they say it is the app's developer problem. Please help - does anyone else have this problem? I can't rate an app if I can't use it.

The comments below was how I first felt. But now it has stopped, I have uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared cache and data, but it just says 'unfortunately geotag has stopped working. I have been asking for help for 3 days now, no response. SO MY ADVICE NOW IS SAVE YOUR MONEY AND LOOK ELSEWHERE - they take your MONEY but offer no support. These were my original comments - Easy to use. Bit confusing with the upload and getting into LR, but after a couple of goes it is easy peasy.

I like the app but I'm doubting its robustness. Recent (June 2016) server-side problems resulted in the app not starting (crashing with no helpful message). This was a source of great frustration for me, as I happened to be on a trip and relied on the app to be working to have my photos tagged. At the price of this app, I'd expect a graceful service degradation. I.e. the app should still work, but syncing should be deferred. When this has been implemented, I'll gladly raise my rating of the app.

I really wanted it to work without internet. I succeeded twice, but there were errors in where I had travelled. One trip "cpap" was there with erroneous distances and then it was gone...too bad. Thank you for the trial. Jlo

This app pretends to be a professional gps geotagging app but unfortunately it doesn't do a professional job. It fails to track you accurately and plonks geo-positions all over the place often hundreds of metres away from the track you actually walked along. It's only useful if you want to know which county you're in, more-or-less, and will tend to lumps great wads of your photos in the same location. Sorry, but I regret that I paid for this. I'm now using Geo Tracker (which is a bit basic) and I'm learning ViewRanger GPS (not entirely intuitive but I'm getting there).

  61. Andreas-avatar

Keeps my phone awake all the time, the old app did not do this. Still missing option to always geotag (i.e. start automatically after reboot) and constantly notifies me, when upload was done. Please add option to hide this. Also, do you expect me to pay again, after already paying for the old app? Like the new design though. //Update: mailed dev a while ago, no answer, two updates, still nothing fixed, so I have to take away a star :( //still

The Linux desktop version doesn't work under Ubuntu and the test run of the recorder not only didn't upload the .gpx to Dropbox it didn't save it on the phone. There are enough utilities on Linux to geotag photos from a .gpx and there are better, and cheaper, .gpx recorders.

I'm very disappointed in this app. I tried the free version and it worked beautifully, so I bought it. I did two photo trips and the tagging was spotty. I discovered that was my fault because I forgot to reset the camera date/time to allow for daylight saving time. So...I got it changed and all synced. I just went on another photo tour. I did not get a single tab even though the desktop app said it had tagged all photos. Some of these locations I stumbled across so did not have addresses for them. I counted on GeoTag to tell me where I was at the time. Very disappointed! UPDATE: I just discovered you can change the time on the photos to match the difference from the phone. So I went back and tried to re-tag all photos from the days I had the time on camera wrong. NOTHING! This App Is No Good!

  65. José Oliver-Didier-avatar

The app does the job. However, I would give it 5 stars if it had a a way to add "points of interest"/"waypoints". For example, when I travel I like to add the place name to my photos it would be nice if the app would allow to add place name location or integrate using a location source such as foursquare or Facebook.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but after I start recording a trip, the app dies after a few minutes (it's not running in the background anymore) and I need to reload it manually and restart the recording. Also, where can I find the gpx files that the app generates?

I've used geotag photos pro 2 for many years, fantastic app I've thousands of photos geotaged from your system, I notice the ability to pick an exact tagging interval is missing, selecting a 10 minutes gps interval is far more battery saving then having it always on. design does look much better however. It's a shame it can't download my past trips from my account for viewing within the history tab. alot of phones support plugging in a memory card via USB otg....if the app itself could geotag photos....

I tried the app for a 600 km trip. The app seemed to logged my locations ok. Then I got home and tried to use the data. Very disappointing experience. The trip data wouldn't upload completely. Tried reuploading the trip several times with same results. On top of that, my account seems locked now. I ended up tagging my photos manually. Not sure how this product could compete with "free" Google map timeline. I was expecting a high quality product considering this app is rather pricy

I have been trying this app for a few days and liked it but it is very expensive so sadly won't be buying it. I can get a gpx file from my tracks for free.

I use this app all the time to geotag my photos in Lightroom. It works flawlessly, too!

Just tried it out and it worked great. Very simple and straight forward. As long as it continues to run smoothly this is by far the simplest way to add location data to your photos.

Happy to see there a new version release with new features better ui. But after few try I always lost signal within few mins once signal lost it won't work again. I have to manually reset it. I try both version with same location the old version work prefect. If the app can't be done what it should be done that is not a good app. Hope the developer will fix this.

Not very straightforward, but got it working after some time, the desktop program is very basic and won't open unless you login with an account. The whole workflow seems a bit strange and leaves me with some privacy concerns. Time will show if an external tracker (battery, data stay local) will replace this app.

It's sadly little more than a gpx logger(Google mytracks will do this for free,). No onboard tagging, clumsy copy to PC workflow. My Sony camera automatically syncs to my android device, so having to copy them elsewhere is less than ideal. Very expensive for what this actually does.

It created the application folder, but has said "uploading" for an hour, and nothing's there. Restarting the phone didn't help. Update: the third and subsequent tries have worked, so I'm happy with the app now.

Not so accurate, but it does the job.

Just start a trip and upload it at the end of the day, that's it.
