Der FC Augsburg ist ein Traditionsverein, der am 8. August 1907 unter dem Namen FC
Alemannia gegründet und zwölf Jahre später in BC Augsburg umbenannt wurde. Dieser BCA
fusionierte 1969 mit dem zweiten großen Augsburger Fußballverein, dem TSV Schwaben
Augsburg, und nimmt seither als FC Augsburg am Spielbetrieb teil.

Der FCA hatte zu dieser Zeit bereits Fußballgrößen wie Uli Biesinger, Weltmeister 1954, oder
Helmut Haller hervorgebracht, es aber zunächst nicht geschafft, sich auf höchstem Niveau zu
etablieren. Nach 23 Jahren im Amateurfußball gelang dem FCA 2006 schließlich der Sprung
in die Zweitklassigkeit, ehe die Fuggerstädter 2011 den Aufstieg in die Bundesliga feierten.

Seitdem ist der FCA fester Bestandteil der höchsten deutschen Spielklasse. In der Saison
2014/15 erreichte der FCA seine bisher beste Abschlussplatzierung und qualifizierte sich
erstmals für die Europa League. Dort machte der FCA in den Spielen gegen Athletic Bilbao,
AZ Alkmaar und Partizan Belgrad sowie gegen den FC Liverpool auf sich aufmerksam. Der
FCA stellte die Saison selbstironisch unter das Motto „In Europa kennt uns keine Sau“ und
gewann durch sympathische Auftritte von Mannschaft und Fans viele Anhänger.

The FC Augsburg is a traditional club, on August 8, 1907 under the name FC
Alemannia was founded and renamed BC Augsburg twelve years later. This BCA
merged in 1969 with the second big Augsburger football club, TSV Schwaben
Augsburg, and since then participates as FC Augsburg in the game mode.

The FCA had at that time already football greats such as Uli Biesinger, world champion in 1954, or
