Planet over Profit
Our goal is to build a greener and better world for everyone, not to maximize returns for shareholders. That’s why we’ve made a legally binding commitment to ensure that no profits can ever be taken out of the company. As part of our vision to end deforestation, we want to plant one billion new trees by 2020.

Why Trees?
More than 25% of the world’s population rely on forest resources for their livelihoods. By planting trees you can fight climate change, restore landscapes, protect wildlife and help people by providing nutrition, employment and education. In the long term this leads to healthier, happier and more economically stable communities.

CO2 Positive
We are more than just CO2 neutral. Ecosia owns and operates its own solar plant to power your searches with 100% renewable energy. In fact, thanks to the amazing trees we plant, each search actually removes around 1 kg of CO2 from the atmosphere.

Forests need protecting and so does your privacy. We do both:
• We don’t save your searches
• We don’t track the websites you visits
• We don’t sell your data to advertisers
• Your searches are always SSL-encrypted

We know that trust has to be earned. That’s why we publish all our monthly financial reports and tree-planting receipts on our website.

Sometimes I can't find specific things. In my case I have to search for medical information a lot because of my job but that only happens from time to time. Usually I find everything I search for and I really like this app because it's easy to use and you can always see how many searches you made with Ecosia so you can see how many tree you have planted ~

  2. doodle_digg _-avatar

Experienced no difficulties with the browser itself. I like how transparent they are with their financial reports. You can hardly tell the difference between Ecosia and Google, honestly. I would recommend it to everyone as it's a very good cause and it works well.

  3. Amanda Kyra-avatar

I like the idea of planting more trees by just browsing. However, they are times the browser was too slow to load that I couldn't search anything 😭 have no choice but to use other browser. I hope your team can fix this problem.

  4. Gregory L-avatar

Came across this amazing search engine that will plant trees while you search, I like the way how they are transparent by listing out all the informations users can access. By the way the browser is doing great, I would be appreciated if Ecosia can add dark mode.

  5. Ryūō Takeru No Mikoto-avatar

i use Ecosia in all my pc browsers and i also use ecosia browser on my phone and on many of my family's phones ..its's actually our default browser if there is one issue i would like to fix its the fact that ecosia browser on smartphones is a chromium based browser and well it's a lousy browser android and iphones offer hundereds of different varieties in terms of browsers yet you guys use one of the worst models ....atleast add a dark mode to

  6. ¿ ¿¿¿-avatar

Thank you Ecoisa for helping the world ♥️ I hope to see more features in the future! It's not the most advanced browser (yet) but it works well and the cause is worth it

  7. sammy dudek-avatar

Works perfectly as a chrome replacement for me. Such a seriously good cause too. Very Very happy that something like this exists. Props to the creators!!

  8. Sally Buttface-avatar

This app is good but its not google you cant really look up something so specific because it'll just show abunch of websites as google you search something and they'd have alittle paragraph you can read linked to a website and it gives you alittle sneak peak

  9. Y os-avatar

I do love the concept of this app, but doesn't adapt Japanese search system. I wish the day come all my Japanese Internet searching would accomplish on Ecosia, but Google.

  10. Shawn Treelife-avatar

Excellent idea to plant trees instead of giving ad revenue to giant corporation. Works just like Google back in the day; I always use it for image search instead of Google.

  11. Avery Jett-Folk-avatar

    Avery Jett-Folk

Great mobile browser! My only criticism would be a lack of a dark mode.

  12. AJ Wasserman-avatar

Not as great as Google in some search results but for every day usage, you wouldn't know the difference! Runs very smoothly on both my phone and computer. Wish I could check my trees on my phone but it's not that big a deal

  13. Life Reportage-avatar

This browser is great, the only problem is that when I tap on something, nothing moves and I don't know if things are going or if they website is stuck or just slow. It would be nice to have something that turns around or moves when a page is loading.

  14. Katrina Balag-ey-avatar

    Katrina Balag-ey

It was a good browser at the start, however lately it has been crashing more and more, to the point where I have to switch browsers in order to be able ro search for something.

  15. Alexis Lorenz-avatar

On Google the internet was not working well, but this app made it easier to search things.

  16. Jose Ricardo Torres-avatar

    Jose Ricardo Torres

Great app! Using it helps the environment.

  17. Peter Greaves-avatar

Pretty good browser... Obviously the stuff they do with the search money is great! If it could be Google based rather than Bing it would be good.

  18. Khalid Omayr-avatar

Amazing project.. I fully support it.. Amazing transparency. This is how all businesses should be from now one.

  19. Chloe DeNuto-avatar

Great app! I love how it shows you how many searches you made so you can see how much you contribute to saving the earth!

  20. Cat More-avatar

Good concept, but you can't ever close a browser. If you close a window and the open ecosia back up it will have the ssame tabs up. Doen't sound a lot but it gets extremely annoying

  21. Dave Jackson-avatar

This is a refreshing option to the usual google spam and if it does actually plant any trees, then it's a plus.

  22. Jordan Chapman-avatar

Good privacy and a respectable search engine doing amazing projects around the world. 40 searches lead to a tree being planted. Better and far less invasive than Google.

  23. Vincent Finn-avatar

Decent browser but a little flaky, it always crashed occasionally but now it crashes several times a day.

  24. The Kids-avatar

Its basically just like google but your actually planting trees and saving the world every single time you search up something. If you like trees this is your game to get more trees. Ps. Stay home

  25. Furquan Raza-avatar

Best browser using it for a long time and had no issues

  26. Thom van Duuren-avatar

    Thom van Duuren

Simple superb! The best way to be on the internet and make sure we can do so in the future.

  27. Hubert Spall-avatar

I want to use this but can't as it crashes every time I search.

  28. Unato Mikuba-avatar

Great alternative search engine. Doesn't have all the features of Google, but if I need to use that I search for Google through Ecosia 😋

  29. Teacup _-avatar

Most of the time, the search results are unfortunately not very accurate. It's difficult to find a quick answer to things because unlike google, you always have to click into websites, whereas with Google, there is often a straight up answer which appears with a single search. Also, it won't allow access to a very commonly used British education website named Glow. It says that the connection is not private and simply won't let me in on any device.

  30. angela dandelle mariae-avatar

    angela dandelle mariae

it's an "okay" browser, i use it to contribute to the environment. it's really efficient. although, i only rate it 4 stars because its search engine is not really that powerful and convenient. yes, it can search well. but at times, it's very slow, and the search results aren't the most accurate. google is still the very best engine for me, but i will continue using this because it's helpful to Mother Earth. i kinda just wish that the creators of this browser improve its search engine.

  31. Jamie Lee-avatar

I am sick of going through all the hassle on Google to erase the extensive records they keep of all my activity only for it to inexplicably start tracking it again. I have found this to be a good alternative. Only thing I would like to see is an easier option to make it default search engine on Android.

  32. Rexxangle-avatar

This browser is great and safe, there's only one little problem in it; when we search for movies, tv series or books, it describes them pretty well but there aren't any ratings like if I want to see an imdb rating of a particular movie, I would have to enter the website and then see it. I think it would be pretty cool if it had an interface like that.

  33. Nagy Hajnalka Éva-avatar

    Nagy Hajnalka Éva

The search results are less relevant and good compared to google or bing, but sure a lot better than yahoo. If you don't search for something rare or hard to find, this browser isn't for you, but if you want have concrete websites to go to, it's a perfect alternative, because it also doesn't have the advertisement system that google has, wich is pretty annoying and distracting sometimes.

  34. Aiko Starboard-avatar

I like the concept, but I miss a lot of things chrome offers. When I open ecosia, I type my search request into a brand new tab. Because firstly I didn't know that, I suddenly had 17 tabs running, I always used a new tab. Therefore I miss the option in settings to choose to use an old tab as soon as I open the app. Also ecosia offers a horrible spell correction. Sometimes I mistyped just one letter in the middle of the word and instead of auto-correcting it, it shows like 1 result with my typo.

  35. Jack Coma-avatar

Protects your privacy and is open and honest. They do not sell your data and post their financial reports. Super handy, on my phone I turned notifications on and it has a search bar with the rest of my notifications all the time which is sooo convient. It's so easy to do so much good.

  36. Bizarre Adventure-avatar

    Bizarre Adventure

Can you please have a function that allows user to import / sync bookmarks from Gmail.

  37. Sina Groß-avatar

    This search engine is great! You can find every page you need and it is very organized. I just have such a good feeling while browsing, because I know I am helping the environment and supporting such a great app.It is also very comforting to know, that your Data is taken care of responsibly. It is the best search engine I have ever used and I am asking you to try It out. I hope you will be as satisfied as I am and also reccomend it to the people you know (;

  38. Annita Eleanor-avatar

This is my FAVORITE browser, it's more efficient than Chrome!!! I reccomend this to everyone! However it doesn't work when transferred to the SD card. It would also be nice if there was a way to somehow save your bookmarks to use on another device, although I dO understand this would go against the strive for privacy. Lastly, a dark mode!

  39. Eileen Herrmann-avatar

    Eileen Herrmann

I love this browser! Minimal ads and pop-ups. I can actually read an article without something intruding my sight. I can relax and surf the net instead of searching for the video ad that popped on. I especially like planting trees.

  40. Shruti Rokhade-avatar

Excellent! Plants trees with the profits from our searches! I feel much better by using this because I know it's helping plant trees. Works just like Google. No difference, but this is better because.... You guessed it right? Because it plants trees. It even has some cool merchandise, and every thing you buy plants one tree. And the products are made in an eco-friendly way! So no worries! Totally loving this app. Keep going Ecosia. If you can please also plant trees in India. 👍🏼♥️

  41. Arro Guns-avatar

Obviously this app alone isn't going to save the world but it's still making a difference and supporting a search engine putting all it's profit into planting trees just feels better than some Silicon Valley cooperation. I have encountered no problems with the search reasults. I almost always find what I'm looking (and in if I don't google doesn't help me either). So really no reason not to use it.

  42. Tony Talks-avatar

A great alternative to Chrome. Has a similar set up without the massive drain on my 6T. Allows me to save stories on the go by reading them offline and ad blocking is helpful. Would be ideal if I can somehow transfer my bookmarks over but not a deal breaker by no means.

  43. Farah Oralie-avatar

Everybody can visit: ( BrowserGood. Com ) to install the best browser app. It's BLOCK ADS and very fast. I did my research before deciding to use this browser and I was satisfied that they are everything they claim to be. As for functionality, it is superb. Equal in every way to the big, well known search engines, but with added privacy security that I appreciate. Simply put, it works flawlessly

  44. Zia Grace-avatar

Great app, literally has no faults...its a web browser but every search you make helps to SAVE THE PLANET. I see no downsides, if you were waiting for a sign to download it, HERE IS YOUR SIGN. Complacency can wait a few year, climate change is happening NOW. Download Ecosia to help save our planet, thank you. Sincerely ~ Gen Z

  45. Jimmy Tarpey-avatar

It needs a search bar as it's url when you open the app. The inclusion of forward slash and .www buttons smashes the spacebar to make it less of a search bar and more of a browser which is what allures people to Chrome, Firefox, and now Edge does it too. Otherwise amazing company, great cause, use it every chance I can.

  46. Rasa Strūģe-avatar

It is a very good browser. Easy to use. My only complaint would be that google searches always give me information that is more accurate to my region. Sometimes to find what i was looking for on Ecosia i have to scroll down a bit. Overall it's a pretty good browsrer and search engine.

  47. prabhskd25-avatar

I like the app because of the good it does, I've been using it for maybe a year now and I've recommended it to a lot of people. But for the past few months it has been crashing A LOT. Everytime I'm browsing through a website, it could be any website, it closes by itself or crashes. I want to keep the app but if it keeps happening I may have to go back to using Google Chrome. Please fix!

  48. Nick Ciancio-avatar

New instances tend to open a new tab for no reason, which makes me accidentally stack a bunch, but if you were on a *cough* adult site last you may appreciate that function. -1 star for that minor annoyance and the fact that some ads do get around the blocker, otherwise Ecosia is a fast browser that slowly contributes to the ecosystem passively!

  49. Luna Quil-avatar

This browsing app is safe and efficient- definitely the superior app in comparison to google. I haven't had any problems with it so far whatsoever. Plus, sense my searches help these wonderful people plant trees, I feel like I'm really making a difference. Thank you, Ecosia.

  50. Jacobo Ramírez Arias-avatar

    Jacobo Ramírez Arias

I really like the app, but suddenly it stop working it doesn't even start, it's quite annoying, so please fix this error or whatever. It's a really good app but it's sad it sometimes lacks in a few things.

  51. Stefan Dahlgren-avatar

    Stefan Dahlgren

Lack of updates, it crashes however every time I tap on any text that isn't a link, and image search is terrible. After finding myself defaulting to Google instead of Ecosia search for a few months I'm finally uninstalling and going back to Chrome. Too bad, cause I really like the idea.

  52. Matyáš Khýr-avatar

I love the idea of Ecosia search engine but why do we need an outdated Chromium build for that?

  53. Riya Shah-avatar

This will the best browser only one feature is missing. I cant take backup of bookmarks. I cant export/import them either. Please just please add a way to backup and restore bookmarks. At its the only feature missing This broswer is awesome and my phone can handle ecosia way better than chrome. Chrome is pretty unstable as of now.

  54. sama mirrezaie-avatar

I realized that this app is too slow! It takes so much time for it to upload a page. Specially when I go to Pinterest. It's like the app gets confused when I tap on a image, and it takes sometime for it to come back to the rhythm. Also, it doesn't show me any assumption, the way Google chrome does. It doesn't have a voice search, which makes it weaker. It it a great idea to plant trees only with searching, but these things that I mentioned, make me so unwilled about using it.

  55. Maria Drew-avatar

Generally pretty good, the search engine can be a bit obtuse but I think the privacy is worth it and nothing stops you from using Google. My only gripe is similfied view... Its incredibly bad, it crashes the app each time I've tried it. Please fix this devs - I'll give you extra star! :)

  56. 2oo6seashells-avatar

I've been using it for more than a year, hoping that someday it will have a functional ad blocker. Nope. I've just had to uninstall it because the ads are so intrusive that some pages are difficult to read :(

  57. Geophrey-avatar

I like it so far . . . Especially the eco-friendly aspects of this browser . . . Still looking into security . . . As long as it's secure, I'll probably use this exclusively. Other than that, haven't used it enough, I'll update if I run into anything questionable.

  58. Annabel Heindla-avatar

    Annabel Heindla

I've used ecosia for years on my laptop but this app is too much of a nuisance. by that I mean that all of my bookmarks are in chrome on my laptop and I can't sync to them in any way. yall should think about maybe making a browser for laptop as well (which would probably not go so well as those are complicated and have quite a few competitors) OR get the ecosia search engine in the chrome app so people wouldn't have to download another browser.

  59. DouglassRobert-avatar

Great browser, works almost identical to Google Chrome, but it does often close on its own. I'm guessing it's due to increasing numbers of users or some such. Please fix for a more enjoyable and eco-conscious browsing experience!

  60. José Jonatan-avatar

A really good app for a good cause. Nice and fluid searches with no intrusive ads whatsoever. All the while using the funds to plant trees worldwide and being financially transparent. 10/10.

  61. Elena Harris-avatar

Works like any other search engine but helps the planet!

  62. Logan Evasco-avatar

Ecosia is such a wonderful app! Its well designed. I actually like it better than Google now because I get different search results and they make it super easy to pop open Google to compare if you feel like you're not getting what you need.

  63. Ahmad Jawad-avatar

I like the idea of planting trees from searching. Search engine is still a bit off. Hopefully we get ti see a dark mode in future updates. Keep up the good work!

  64. Yotam Korah-avatar

Great browser and search engine. Very easy to use. Only one problem is that the search bar widget stopped working on my phone (mi9).

  65. Jelmer Neeven-avatar

It works great, until you want to use a password manager. I tried a whole bunch of them and literally none of them are supported (auto fill doesn't work)... This is a pretty essential feature in 2020.

  66. Hayden Murphy-avatar

I love the fact I can plant trees with my searches. But I don't like using the app because you cannot go forwards and backwards between pages easily. It needs this functionality to be my primary search engine.

  67. DeathBeyondReason-avatar

Great app, I'll update as to why another time but I am having a problem with the notification panel quick search. It doesn't seem to pop up on this phone with the option enabled. I'd love to see it fixed.

  68. gel lexi-avatar

I really LOVE Ecosia. I don't care that sometimes it doesn't show good/passende pictures on there "pictures". Because I don't care that Ecosia is less betterr in passende alghorithms like google has, it shows that I really want to save the world through planting trees! Please people! USE ECOSIA! The world needs you! Sometimes it is the smallest acion like searching for an "unimportant" result. Thank you for trusting in nature and the community and the animals. USE ECOSIA. Or google or not ;) xxx

  69. SprayJuice YT-avatar

This app is great but one thing it could use: When you search things it gives you an answer like Google, that in a box, would be a great idea. Overall the tree planting idea is super great, Thank you for this great app.

  70. Jaya-avatar

Amazing! Works well as a search engine and it's always improving. On top of that it supports reforestation projects which not only improve the environment but benefit people in the local communities! :)

  71. X Xx-avatar

Incredible, absolutely incredible app. I normally don't write reviews, but Ecosia deserves it. I'm sure they will easily catch up with all the dev features Chrome has soon enough :) It's really not that far behind. Ive noticed some people over exaggerating a bit on issues they'll surely fix,l. The bigger picture is, what they're doing is absolutely amazing, they're giving us all the ability to do our part. It's absolutely incredible, and if you're considering using it, just go ahead and do it.

  72. Colin Jordan-avatar

Great purpose, pretty decent browser for now. Would appreciate a swipe function to go back a page but it's definitely a contender even without the tree building. I started at 65mill trees on my iPhone and now I'm seeing 86.7. Thanks Ecosia !

  73. Kunal Kataria-avatar

It's an amazing web browser There is nothing that is possible in some other web browser that I can't do in it This application really doesn't use the personal information for any use.

  74. Maxwell-avatar

Just started using it so I can't say much, but what I have noticed is that it's not as smooth as Google, both work wise and visually. Also very disappointed that the images section doesn't load similar images once you click on one, that'll definitely be very problematic for me. Overall a great app, would reccomend for someone who doesn't need to use images that much.

  75. przosa-avatar

Why are you making it hard to clear all the private data? To go to the Settings/Privacy/ clear private data, people will be too lazy. Please, add a One button on the bar. Give options in the settings what to get cleared when pressed that button.

  76. Rose Rodemann-avatar

When the advertisement comes up, it pauses and didn't resume so I try to push play and nothing happens. So I uninstalled and reinstalled and the same thing happened again. I don't use premium

  77. Josephin Rönker-avatar

    Josephin Rönker

Best!! Never had an issue and it feels good to see that there are many more trees to be planted. Defnitely recommending the app and ecosia browser

  78. Lea Ellas-avatar

I love it! The resulting search for the same exact phrase or terms are either the same or very similar in the quality info yielded. Plus no extensive amount of scrolling through ads. The phone app (Android) doesn't give me any search server errors but the search on my mac computer sometimes does. Don't know if relevant to the system, but worth mentioning. Not too often to be an issue though, just once in a while.

  79. Bethany Hawkings-avatar

    Bethany Hawkings

Think this should take over from Chrome etc. Such an incredible app. I keep up to date with the easily to find blogs and updates on the trees being planted. Been using this for a long time and never had any issues. JUST USE IT please for goodness sake. It's nothing to change over and it actually serves good in the world not itself! Cant speak more highly of this and keep telling people to use it to this day.

  80. Lisby Muriel Moncada Retamal-avatar

I'm always impressed by how quickly they update the amount of trees they have till now, I like it ! I use it for couple of years now! All good! :)

  81. That one Canuck-avatar

    That one Canuck

Would 100% recommend this to anyone who wants to do a small part to help climate change while just making searches. The functionality is only slightly behind Google but with the amount of resources they have it's not surprising, at the same time though the user experience is still great. The developers are very active with updates and ecosia is a registered B corporation and posts monthly financial reports.

  82. Francisco Noguera-avatar

    Francisco Noguera

Great cause and will continue to use but needs significant updates to address daily crashing and improvement overall on search results. Sometimes there are "quick view" answers to searches and other times not. Ex: When searching for "LeBron James age" I am forced to scroll through recent news and links in order to get to his Wikipedia. Whereas other browsers provide the answer directly in a small window before the searches. This saves so much time and hassle and I would love to see this feature!

  83. Andrew Cameron-avatar

I love the mission, I love the privacy, I love not giving more money to google whenever possible. I love using it on my phone and highly recommend it for that, but on my chromebook the formatting is no good. That's so disappointing! Am I missing something? Is there another version or a way to make it work/look better on a chromebook?

This is such a fantastic idea. I love the feeling of supporting something like this and the search engine itself is about on par with google, so I don't feel like I'm making a tradeoff or anything. Highly recommended.

As a browser, it does everything that i need it to, and then it has less ads compared to some other browsers. I'm not an expert so i can't say anything about its privacy features and all, but I find the browser to be perfectly satisfactory even without the fact that they use their earnings to plant trees. When you add that, it becomes a bit of a no brainer

Loads fast and is easy to use but is very buggy, when I click any links in websites for going to an an important page it crashes and the app force closes . If they just fix that one issue I would rate higher, they also dont answer emails I'll probably only use the desktop version.

I think it's great but when I try to download stuff with Wi-Fi enabled and half way through I may have to leave the wifi and it won't continue downloading until I go back into Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, I use mobile internet at home so I end up using mobile internet for downloading an entire file which I had already downloaded half of it but had to delete. Can you please put a button to say "download over mobile internet"?

It's a very good app but I think you should update the app because it is looking too old. This browser should have an adblocker.

A pretty solid and decent experience overall. My only concern lays with privacy matters. While the creators of this app did invest some thought and effort into meeting at least the most basic thresholds of privacy and security standards, there's still a lot of room for the service to improve on that front.

It's a really great app with a really great purpose!! It's a little slower and bulkier than chrome but not to bad.

It's faster and it's more friendly (especially about their goal) than any other app. I'm giving it 4 stars for now because I only downloaded it recently and I'm still wondering if there's more to it.

Amazing that now the many questions I have can be answered while also doing good. I have been so impressed by how much ecosia had been able to accomplish in bringing our forests back! It works great as a search engine, only lacking a few features compared to Google which I can live without in most cases (I keep chrome installed for that reason) but I put the search bar widget on my home screen so it's always there and let me tell you it definitely comes in handy. Thanks ecosia!

Beautiful app with beautiful intentions. I wish I could be a part of their team. I don't use any other search engine anymore, it works the same as any other.

Have been using for a couple of years, main reason I installed was that when opening results in a new tab, it would open in the foreground, unlike chrome. I also have enjoyed the tree planting endeavour associated with Ecosia searches. However, the tab opening behaviour has changed recently to be like chrome, opening the new tab in the background, which I do not like. I have tried to get it to behave as before, but the settings menu seems to have changed. Very frustrating!

Sometimes Ecosia doesn't connect and I have to use Chrome. Obviously I'd prefer to use Ecosia, but it being unreliable is really annoying. (I'm living in Vietnam, so it might be an endemic problem, but still.)

Exceptional, awesome, a very nice experience

I like the concept of it. But the browser is too slow. In PC it's fine but on mobile is no good

Awesome way to help plant trees. There is just a problem though: the setting lack many things. Please fix them and add more like dark theme and more, like every other browser out there.
