تطلُّ الكاتبة أثير بروايتها الثانية في ديسمبر تنتهي كل الأحلام بعد أن كانت قد قدمت لنا نموذجًا مثيرًا للجدل في روايتها الأولى والتي انقسم النّاس بين معجبٍ بها وبين آخر رافض، الأمر الذي لم يمنع الرواية من تحقيق أكثر المبيعات في الوطن العربي، الملاحظ في رواية في ديسمبر تنتهي كل الأحلام بأنَّ الكاتبة أثير احتفظت بأسلوبها الشعري وبلغتها العذبة عن طريق اختيار تراكيب تبقى في البال لفترةٍ طويلة ويتناقلها النّاس كاقتباساتٍ مؤثّرة لكن وكما معظم أعمالها لاقت هذه الرواية الكثير من الانتقادات حول طبيعة الشخصية التي اختارتها كبطل للرواية والأفكار التي طرحتها عن الدّين والوطن وعادات القبيلة وحقوق المرأة في السعودية، لكنّها كما سابقتها لاقت جمهورًا كبيرًا يصطفُّ بالطوابير لشراء الأعداد الأولى منها.
