I used Amaze for a bit over a year, from 01/08/2019 to 02/24/2020. It was never the perfect file manager app, but it was good enough. I finally tried a handful of other file managers recommended by users of Reddit and reviewers of Android Central, and am now happily using MiXplorer Silver (MiXplorer Silver has a one-time payment of $4.99). I had issues with Amaze crashing from time to time on the two flagship devices I used it on: Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy Note 10+. Also, some of the user interface is a bit counter-intuitive, such as how the top-left menu disappears for no apparent reason when I scroll downward in any folder.

apk Essential FM App. Name & Descriptions do not lie: * Open Source, light and smooth * Based on Material Design guidelines * Basic features like cut, copy, delete, compress, extract etc. easily accessible * Work on multiple tabs at same time * Multiple themes with cool icons * Navigation drawer for quick navigation * App Manager to open, backup, or directly uninstall any app * Quickly access history, access bookmarks or search for any file * Root explorer for advanced users * AES Encryption 10/10

  3. HEX cube-avatar

smb What I like about this file manager is it's modern yet simple UI, a modern tab based take on the dual pane layout without looking outdated and most importantly, the code being open source 😍. I tend to trust open source apps like these as my core apps, coz I'm a bit privacy and security conscious.

  4. James Randolph-avatar

source code When I try to add an ftp server I just get an endless spinning wheel and it never connects. I even bought the cloud plug-in. Other file manager feature seem to be ok. I prefer ES file manager but they lost my trust as a company. Also ES has become bloated. Amaze at least feels very tight by comparison.

  5. Dan Wally-avatar

smb tutorial Worked initially. Now it crashes whenever I try to make changes (create folder, copy files). Hope this is fixed soon.

  6. GAM3R-avatar

samba It works great despite the fact that Everytime I try to search for a file, it crashes.

  7. Les Bruce-avatar

ftp This app shows promise, but I'm noticing image thumbnails are extremely slow to populate on both of my Android devices. If this gets updated and fixed....5 stars!!

  8. Ben Mart-avatar

copy paste Potent & reliable file manager. Does what it is supposed to, and doesnt waste system ressources for unintended background activity. This makes it a trustworthy first choice support application.

i really happy using amaze file manager. but latest update give me I/O error when i try to open any editable files using buildin text editor.

  12. Daniel Ha-avatar

I love it. It's a very polished open source file manager. No problems so far. :)

  13. Nazim Agabekov-avatar

Clear and concise file manager with archives support. Many thanks to developers for such a wonderful application.

Something happened to your code. Instead of opening PDF file it's going blank on some addresses I think

Obviously it writes files to external sdcard a bit slower than most other filemanagers I had.

  16. Collin Kindred-avatar

Was unable to perform SD card operations on Android 9. Went with CX File Manager instead

  17. Asif Zaman-avatar

Clean, simple and elegant. Really good app.

  18. Yoav Sapir-avatar

Generally pretty good but crashes when extracting rar files

  19. Souvik-avatar

Update: After the new update the problem got resolved. Thanks for the support. ----------------------------------------- Not working on Android Q. Can't install any apk using this explorer. It was working well with older Android versions.

I wish if there was an option to move content from folder to folder.

  23. Jimmy Brazal-avatar

It's good but not better than ES File Explorer. It can't set a default app. It always ask which app to use though I've set the app to be used as ALWAYS. Fix it and I will give better rating.

  24. Private Citizen-avatar

As good as, and better than, most paid file managers. I am glad to find it. Very good! Donated, and worth it.

  25. Johnny Tifosi-avatar

Crashes randomly when moving files from internal storage to SD card.

  26. Shivaram Puttur-avatar

    Simple. Most useful.

  27. meg jus'-avatar

Thank you developers. This is better than the phone's default file system 👍

  28. clement-avatar

Used this for a while. This is not updated enough, even for open source. Crashes when searching for a file, random crashes when cutting/pasting/unzipping/etc... It's clearly not stable at all, there are way too many crashes for it to be enjoyable right now. Some crashes are there since I installed it 1 yr ago. Hasn't been updated for Android 10, even though it's been out for a while now. 3 stars for it instead of 2 because what works, works really well. Good potential, but needs more work.

  29. Joshua Rubright-avatar

I love this file manager, have been using it for a few years now. Layout, flow, everything is great. Unfortunately after upgrading to an S10+ w/Android 10 I can no longer install apps from unknown sources. I have the permission set to allow, but I get a small toast message that says "Error" when attempting an install. I can install with the default My Files file manager however so I have a workaround, but I would prefer to use only Amaze.

  30. Reilly Reverie-avatar

Almost great. Simple. Streamlined. Everything I need except for the FTP which breaks every now and then. I can't even transfer a single file. Sad to say it was definitely a deal breaker for me. I already adjusted the idle time. My screen timeout and alas! Still the same.

  31. Mattias Wilson-avatar

I just installed the app during thr search for a file manager with tags. I've downloaded several so far, and yours looks the best. The only thing it needs is tags. I need to be able to tag files multiple things (not just stick them in a folder to organize). For example, a picture of a waterfall, I'd want to tag it: Water, Waterfall, Landscape, etc.

  32. Nathan Clark-avatar

I've been using this app for a little while now and haven't run into many problems. However I did notice one issue, not sure which app is the problem. In one app, I want to save a file. The only option is "share," which I choose and pick to save in Amaze. Amaze opens with a green download icon bottom right. I click that but Amaze keeps crashing. Nothing gets saved. So far that's the only issue I've run into.

  33. Julia-avatar

It works. Most of all it supports samsung secure folder which was my main concern. Really needs a tutorial as I had no idea how to access multiple tabs. The swipe for tabs is awful and I'd prefer a dropdown or something as I have difficulty with gestures due to fine motor issues, and often forget tabs is there. Until they fix the accessibility of the tabs this app is unfortunately 2 stars. I want to like it, I really do, but... yeah.

  34. A Google user-avatar

This app is amazing, but as others pointed out, it has many bugs. Im using android kitkat and i get constant crashes, the search function does not work if display is not in portrait mode and sometimes it gives me wrong results (i tried changing some words and got the same results for the previous words, which did not include the new word), although this might not happen frequently. The crashes, though, are quite frequent

  35. Mihir Upadhyay-avatar

If only this app is free from glitches too...when something is deleted from folder it glitches out and displays a message that nothing is in that directory....and there's no progress bar when something is moved to other path/location I have to guess if the task is completed.... UI is nice there are no ads app is free....but there are crashes.... please fix it ,it could be the best free file explorer...

  36. Abhishek Nayak-avatar

This was my go to app for file management. However, its biggest drawback is the frequent crashing. Now it's so severe that I can't open the app at all. That's really poor testing from the dev, considering I am using stock android. It's a great app otherwise when it used it to work. Edit: Even after updating to the new version, the app instantly crashes on launch. No improvements for me personally.

  37. Daniel Smedegaard Buus-avatar

    Daniel Smedegaard Buus

Really good, but buggy. Especially copying files is buggy, and causes the app to crash often. Crashes are very frequent in general. Extracting archives crashes the app most of the time. Just generally badly coded, it seems. Also, it cannot gain write access to your SD card, which is a big minus. Sans bugs, it'd be a clear 5. Here's hoping for bugs being ironed out in the future 😊

  38. PeterPorker3-avatar

Works like I'd expect, overall it's very good. I switched to cx file explorer because its pretty good too and includes more features like the ability to access network shares. If network smb, ftp, or ntp where added i would definitely come back. There are a lot of good file managers with the basic features, not a lot of good ones with network share functionality.

  39. Shizun Ge-avatar

Functional great, but I do not like some UX. I do not like the animation when opening the new folder. Cannot turn it off. 2nd, do not like that they seprate the tool bar and the address bar, which takes too many space. Why don't you replace the word "Amaze" in the tool bar by current folder's name and you can merge the address bar and tool bar. Third it shouls not go level above storage on non-rooted device, not useful on nonrooted device.

  40. Amin Berrada-avatar

I like how you can create shortcuts to directories on your home screen. It would be nice if the keyboard popped up automatically when you were creating a new file or directory.

  41. Canh Pham-avatar

Even though I'm quite content with the Solid file manager I checked this out since it was open source. While the app seems decent and sufficient for my usage, a glaring missing feature is the ability to import/export the app's settings. I have multiple devices and run custom ROMs so having to manually setup each device is not something I fancy. Let me know when this is incorporated.

  42. Stevi-avatar

A good file explorer for most people, but I found better app that fit my needs. I have some issues though, it doesn't show anything in /storage/emulated. Another one is that last time somehow it keeps crashing everytime I tried to open the app. I have to clear the data to fix it.

  43. Peter Lenjo-avatar

This app is great, but creating zip archives isn't wiring as it should, and any other program flags them as unreadable.

  44. Rama Chandra-avatar

Awesome File manager. But one major problem, whenever I turn on ftp server and access it using "windows file explorer" as client, the connection automatically resets after a few minutes after the phone screen goes off(phone sleeps), it terminates the file transfers immediately. Please fix it. Keep up the good work.

  45. Antz Ivan Ho-avatar

Keep crashing from time to time, especially on searching

  46. raven espit-avatar

as buggy as this is on my LGs. it is the only fm i found that would copy the noncorrupt amongst the corrupt files off my read only corrupted sdcard by dir. the rest i try including stock refuse! obv bugs i see: cant rename file.png to FILE.png (says same name lol) sometimes cant copy dir (mixed formats?) hangs indefinately. interface's sweet though, AND it can go deeper into the fs than stock, all the way to /. id use exclusively if fixed. much ❤ for helping me get my files. Debug Amaze Team!

  47. Oliver Portee-avatar

Nice design. Text editor included which is perfect for me to write notes. This app is rather minimalistic and yet you can do everything you'd expect from a file manager. One feature I would enjoy is the possibility to enable monospace font by default.

  48. A Google user-avatar

Im writing this review even before installing this app. I have been using ES all these days, and I started hating it after they made it 'freemium'. I found this app and it is really cool to see that this app is FOSS. Also, great to see that the initiator(s) is(are) from India. Keep up the good work guys!

  49. A Google user-avatar

Absolute garbage now; crashes constantly. Used to work. Crashed after some mysterious background update, then I decide to officially update the app by going to the play store, and it still crashes. Why did the background update cause it to start crashing, and why did your first patch not fix it? Why did you background update to begin with? Why is amaze a play on words for "a maze", and why does the app cryptically hide files?

  50. Lis Tener-avatar

Cannot move (cut/paste) from emulated to sd card. Gave files permission. Then asks to give again to that folder, i select it and it ends on error or crashes :(

  51. MUBIN A-avatar

Very good app. But there is room for improvement. It can't handle(copy paste, show) folders if the number of file is large. It would be very good if there was per folder sorting. Two pane setup is very cool but I want to open as many pane as I want😊😊😊

  52. Droid Setup-avatar

Does NOT sort folders (sorts files only). Does NOT display size of folders (displays sizes only for individual files). And for 21MB, it does not deliver much utility.

  53. Sahil S-avatar

This is the best file manager on Android. This app is what ES File manager used to be, before all the ads and nonsense. Actually, this app is even better than ES ever was. Great simple interface, but also granular controls for those who want them. Kudos to the devs! Negative reviews simply don't understand how to use the toolbar... it's not very difficult

  54. A Google user-avatar

I really wanted to like app - it's elegant, open source with no adds, and the tab functionality is quite handy - however in both its view modes you can see no more than 4-5 files in a standard 5 inch phone, which is quite impractical. If only the developers added a compact view.

  55. Mike Nolan-avatar

Very promising app. Neat intuitive interface. Sadly the SMB functionality to connect to a shared Win 10 folder does not work (Win 10 requires SMBv2 or above). Can the developers fix the problem?

  56. Tawusaw Worldwide-avatar

    Tawusaw Worldwide

To Dev Good Apps but i think you could divide internet feature [FTP etc] to another plugin like your cloud plugin. To make sure you really care about privacy. (other question why signature in play different from f-droid?)

  57. Earl Cousins-avatar

This was my goto but after moving to a pixel 3a xl on Android 10 it crashes on start. Please fix!

  58. A Google user-avatar

app keeps crashing on creating an empty txt file. (root mode) and i can't copy files between my sd card and the internal storage. es file explorer works fine...

  59. Zak Zik-avatar

Juste perfect: simple, fast, everything needed for a file manager but no extra feature (scanning,...) overloading it. And even more: open source!

  60. Md. Anwar Hossain Minto-avatar

    Md. Anwar Hossain Minto

Excellent App. But crashes sometimes. Crashes everytime when I search something, Today when I tried to backup some apps it crashed. Else it is great app. Fix these bugs. Hoping for the best

  61. Johan Tenbrink-avatar

Still no smb2 support almost 2 years after Windows disabled smb1 by default. Smb1 is insecure and should not be used anymore!

  62. Sudip Das-avatar

Read a lot of good reviews about it. Both Google Play and F-droid have the latest version as Dec 2018. This version seems buggy, as app crashed on opening a small jpg file from SD. Uninstalling..

  63. Michael Sage-avatar

Brilliant app. SMB support is amazing. Best file explorer for Android. To browse network shares click + and setup new cloud connection (not sure why it's called cloud connection!)

  64. Sensi Chong-avatar

All seems well, but the encryption doesn't ask for a password.

  65. Charles IV-avatar

buggy but nice. I really love this app, but unfortunately it seems very buggy and crashes a lot when copying files and accessing cloud storages.

  66. A Google user-avatar

If I use it as a share handler, like to save as on a WhatsApp profile picture, does it overwrite without warning same named files in the same directory? if I share a WhatsApp profile picture and then save as with amaze into downloads and then do the same for another profile picture, would overwrite the first without warning? if so this is a very serious and dangerous bug! this should be renamed as "picture (1).jpg"

  67. A Google user-avatar

The best Android file manager that's absolutely free. Sadly, it lacks features for cloud storage.

  68. Keshan Kissoon-avatar

This is the perfect file manager for Android. It does everything I want it to. The only missing feature is drive/next loud integrations.

  69. Andre Porter-avatar

Love the app. 5 stars when working. Lately, it doesnt even open. I mean consistent crashing when invoked.

  70. A Google user-avatar

I can manage my files in any way: unRAR, rename, copy. I will give it fifth star when I am able to listen to whole folders of music (sorted by time) and the app stops crashing sometimes.

  71. A Google user-avatar

The Amaze settings claim that Amaze can display the number of items in folders; as well as display the data & time when a file was last modified. Unfortunately, it's incapable of doing any of those things. Uninstalled in disgust. 😡

  72. Vu Dú-avatar

Great file manager. Free and Open source. Only thing missing is being able to see network directories with SMB or NFS.

  73. Rachel Pecyna-avatar

Really nice and interesting app, but I'd include minor changes to UI, it's really cumbersome to use on any larger screen. (Put paste option into floating button please.)

  74. A Google user-avatar

Not deserved 1 star or anything but somehow in Document section it doesn't read any document type files, pdf, docx, txt etc. Hope it's a bug and not about licenses or something like that.

  75. Siamak Ensafi-avatar

nice app. needs work. too many bugs regarding notifications and working with OTG storage, copying and pasting.

  76. a platypus-avatar

Really useful and somple to learn and use. Some advanced features are not quite there yet and need refunement.

  77. Mahela Munasinghe-avatar

    Mahela Munasinghe

Crashes whenever I search for a file. Except for this it's a good file manager but for me, search is an essential function.

  78. Amirul Naim-avatar

hey dev. i really love your app but it crash too frequently. i give you 1 star because crash is the worst thing to happen to an app. please fix this so i can love this app again!

  79. Chris Black-avatar

No idea why anybody is saying they are having trouble riding or moving files to their SD card with this app. It works just fine for me on my Galaxy running Android Pie

  80. Ross Hunter-avatar

Once a great option, the app crashes often in more recent versions of Android. Disappointing, as it is well featured.

  81. Daniel Quinn-avatar

Amazed. I installed it via f-droid but it's been really really good, simple to use and efficient. Especially the integrated FTP server!

  82. Andrew Nicolaou-avatar

    Andrew Nicolaou

great file management app, gave 4 stars since it does not have a native image viewer. not a huge issue but does make reviewing photos a bit inconvenient.

  83. B Russell-avatar

Crashes now. Crashes on my old phone, crashes on my new phone. Can do very little with it. i once liked it very much.

  84. Aleksandar Sirakov-avatar

    Aleksandar Sirakov

Excellent file manager. It has a very neat sliding feature for reading files which have long names.

  85. Renty Espeon-avatar

While this app does it's well for the most part, the app's archive extractor is quite lacking since it doesn't support 7z archives.

  86. Mustafa Ege Ozturk-avatar

Used to be great but as others have said, it's crashing all the time lately.

  87. Tomi Lämsä-avatar

A very nice file manager. Lately has been crashing a lot when switching the app to background. Is something wrong with some onPause method?

  88. BangDroid-avatar

Open source. Great function. Loads of features. Finally an acceptable replacement for certain file managErS I found to be spyware.

  89. ML-avatar

Was great but too much ctashes and errors lately. Too much fails while copying, delet8ng and moving files as well

  90. Joker K-avatar

Doesn't have much fuctions. Allows me to view files but thats all. Should have on screen functions to move files, delete, etc.

  93. Sachin Gopal-avatar

The Amaze on playstore is not the latest and hence it's crashing. Download from fdroid for the latest version which fixes the crash.

  94. Mario Papa-avatar

excellent app with lots of functional features. the app manager option crashes the app, though.

  95. Duke Nyakundi-avatar

Very best file manager. But there is a downside which is Recycle Bin Please add the Recycle Ben feature to it, then it would be the No 1 file manager

  99. Elias gagnef-avatar

The best file manager, FOSS, free, fast, great UI, not sketchy. An absolute blast to use.

  100. Jacob Tan-avatar

App crashes as soon as it is started on version 3.3.0. Please fix this as soon as possible
