approximate location (network-based)
Allows the app to get your approximate location. This location is derived by location services using network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine approximately where you are.

precise location (GPS and network-based)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.

  1. Greg Campbell-avatar

Generally quite useful. The major issue I have is the tiny square lightning icons that are VERY difficult to see in bright light, particularly when the radar overlay is enabled. PLEASE offer an option for larger, more visible markers! Thank you.

Mid storm. Watching the lightening strikes all around us hearing the thunder and nothing showing on the app at all. Used to be my go to app but not if it doesn't work

  3. Chris Pollard-avatar

Sat in the middle of a thunderstorm, open up the app and it shows... Nothing. Nada. Useless basically.

  4. Andrew Goloskof-avatar

Extremely useful, reliable but needs polishing.

  5. George Howarth-avatar

The app used to work really well and used to work in the UK without any issues. Other apps have shown storms and lightning strikes in the UK, however this app doesn't where as the Blitzortung website does. Not worth using this app if you live in the UK which is a shame. Hopefully this will be "fixed" by the developers in the future.....

  6. Claude D-avatar

At startup it shows the most recent lightning strikes in the area. However it finished updating it doesn't show any new strikes but it does remove old lightning strikes. When viewing the web site it does show new lightning strikes on the map. There is something wrong with the application where it doesn't read the arrival of new lightning strikes in the Android app. The refresh for lightning isn't working when the app is up and running but it does work well for the radar image.

  7. Paul Harris-avatar

Lightning strike display is great, but the station display is poor at different zoom levels. When zoomed out, stations disappear from map. I understand this is probably to keep station display density constant to keep the app responsive, but even when fully zoomed in at location of my station, it doesn't show my station like it used to, even though it's the only one present in the selected display area. Seems it's been displaced by a new station 18km away from mine. Bug?

  8. Charles Sandy-avatar

app not showing my location on map nor are range circles being displayed. both are selected in settings. time of strike would be helpful instead of just lat/long. Makes tracking of storm easier in the event the strike isn't witnessed on the screen when it happens.

  9. Xuexue Cao-avatar

Very well-selected principles of operation. Nothing on the screen needs interpretation, the lightning strikes are shown clearly relative to landmarks and with an intuitive intensity display. Kudos.

  10. Andy Heer-avatar

Doesn't show UK storms It used to work but despite showing storms over continental Europe it has stopped showing storms over the UK. I know from Facebook reports and from the lightningmaps web site that there are storms but this app doesn't show them.

  11. Kelly Jaques-avatar

installed but before opening pop up opened and started to rapidly move back and forth across screen. impossible to read and definitely not accepting what looks to be a virus! uninstalled

  12. Matt Burrows-avatar

Australia - another app notified me of lightning, This app,.....nothing. I'll stick with the other. Only useful thing is that it shows where the lighting/weather stations are in my area.

  13. Marty Fearo-avatar

Just back from Spain where I got app on phone. Worked very well & gave us good warning of approaching storms developing in Med Sea. Strikes showing within 1-2 seconds. Easy to use & accurate.

Update of strikes is irregular and not accurate. Also little strike-spots are too small to makeout in the map.

  15. Jon Steedley-avatar

I love this it REALLY helps me keep track of local lightning so when lightning is close I can take precautions to protect myself & my property.

nice radar not usable to me. can't read how far away lightning was. not showing my location on the map. too manh other good maps.

  17. Darren Hobden-avatar

i loved this. But the weather radar has stopped working.

  18. Sean Sylvester-avatar

since the update its relatively useless. no distance available nor sound and no rainbow colour strikes. Is there a reason for taking its main features away?

  19. Rebecca Morgan-avatar

Biggest electrical storm my country has had in a very long time (over 11,000 strikes apparently) and this app only records 3!

    Fabulous

  42. dan weinberg-avatar

Can you add an option for raw radar data? I gave this an updated review. People need to understand that the slower your connection is the longer it will take to start. I have a gigabit connection so only takes 5 seconds to fully load. Weather radar (sweep) can take 5 minutes to process even on live tv. The sweep is just a software trick It is not real time.

  43. Paul Lazarchik-avatar

On my Marshmallow LG G4 I had zero issues with this app. It worked great every time. Since installing on my new Nougat S7 the location marker and range rings do not show. I tried setting the resolution of the device down to see if that was the issue, but nothing I do will make them show. Other than that, it still works well.

  44. Glenn Talbott-avatar

Looks fine, smooth and easy to use. However, it did not show my location on the map, nor did it show the distance circles. Still needs work. Also adding an alert for strikes within 10 miles would be nice. Question: Do the expanding circles around strikes represent speed of sound for thunder? Galaxy S7, Android 6.0.1, AT&T

  45. Will Woodgate-avatar

Like the version on the website, this app does a great job of displaying lightning strikes and precipitation radar. Triangulation accuracy used to be quite poor for the UK, but it has gotten better in the past couple of years. I've tried several lightning tracker apps, and this seems to be one of the better ones.

  46. Tim Backer-avatar

Not bad, needs minor fixes. App doesn't ask for location permission, so you have to go into settings > apps to give it permission - then location works. Also needs scaling options as on higher dpi screens the text and strike dots are microscopic. Unfortunately it appears to be abandonware.

  47. Robert Watson-avatar

This is the best there is for Android 4.4.2 (Kitkat) devices. I used Weatherbug with their Spark lightning tracker for many years, but recent versions have become too slow to the point of being unusable on my older device. Note that there is also a "Blitzortung Lightning MONITOR" app by a different author that I didn't like. Blitzortung Lightning TRACKER (this app) is the one to get.

  48. Marc Rylands-avatar

Well despite ticking the boxes to get my location, all the range circles and all the rest of it, it shows nothing but s world map basically. What a waste of an app. If it doesn't work properly, then why bother developing it in the first place?!!!

  49. Reece Smith-avatar

To move the center of the bullseye Circle put your finger, *ON* the red circle itself (NOT the center of the circle) and drag the circle so that it is centered where you live. This is an utterly fantastic application. If you want to know about lightning strikes near you - get this app.

  50. JR Hobbs-avatar

Downloaded on to a Samsung Tablet 10.1 Note. All seemed okay at first, but then after exiting the app for a few minutes and then going back in, I noticed the blue squares of the detectors were missing. After a while they came back and then went again. This seems to be happening all the time. Also, only once have I ever seen the distance circles around my location, despite having the option for them ticked. A shame it has these bugs, as it seems more accurate than some other storm warning apps.

The App simply doesn't work!!! While watching a very active thunderstorm for over 30 minutes, not a single lightning strike appeared on the app for my location. The app is supposed to track lightning strikes...it doesn't!!!

  52. Robert McMurray-avatar

    Robert McMurray

    2016-12-22T12:32:10.206Z

Good app but has issues. Occasionally quits to desktop and only 5 minute lifespan for displaying lightning works. Choose 30 minutes or 20 minutes and the strikes still disappear after 5 minutes.

  53. A Google user-avatar

It was okay, a good reliable app. However I've had it just over a month and all of a sudden it doesn't show the precipitation, which is slightly disappointing for me and makes me question the reliability and validity of this entire app. Easy enough to use and would be perfect if the issues were resolved.

  54. Robert Harvey-avatar

The show my location bit is broken, so I have to zoom by hand.

  55. R/ S-avatar

I don't know why it's so hard for other devs to create something as simple and effective as this. They all want ads, or a monthly subscription, or both, or permissions to all your stuff. The only improvement that could be made would be to change the zone sizes. I'd like to know the strike count for 5 miles and 3. The nearest 10 miles is a bit far out when we have mountain ranges so close.

  56. Keith Lavallee-avatar

Doesn't dectect my actual location even though there are options for distance circles. Unimpressed and uninstalled

  57. Jim Holland-avatar

Really great app for global lightning tracking. Simple and easy to use. A must download for anyone who has a need for lightning strike information.

  58. Karl K-avatar

To get my location and range circles to appear on my phone (running Marshmallow), I had to go into the system settings and enable location in the app permissions. Otherwise, works okay. Would be more useful if it had notifications for nearby lighting strikes.

  59. Jerry Dubose-avatar

For some reason, it crashed and wouldn't let me back in. After I updated it, it wouldn't let me in at all

  60. Charles Sandy-avatar

Lightning popping all around but the app doesn't show anything. The only thing that seemed to work was the weather maps but turn those off and the map is just a map.

  61. Stephen Green-avatar

Shows location of strikes and which detector has monitored each strike. Shows distance of strike from your location. Strike location is animated. Accurate. Recommended👍

  62. Daniel Kapp-avatar

Many youth sports cancel at a distance of 10 miles. Can you make a diameter ring of ten miles? That would make it awesomer.

  63. Patrick Larkin-avatar
