More than a simple launcher, Lightning is a fast, light and extremely customizable tool to build the perfect home screen. To build your home screen.

No other launcher can compete with Lightning when it comes to customizability. Have a look at the full list of features and you will be convinced ;-)

And if an extreme customizability were not enough, Lightning is also very light on memory and a blazing fast launcher. It works like a charm on all phones and tablets, from Android 2.2 up to newest Android versions.

Under the hood, Lightning is propelled by a powerful and unique engine allowing you to arrange your apps and widgets using the best possible flexibility and style.

• It doesn't matter whether you want your icons to be nicely aligned on a grid, or pixel perfect positioned, or even scaled/ rotated/skewed in all directions: Lightning does it all with ease.
• It doesn't matter whether you need a single page, five, or half a million with different setups for work, private use and children: Lightning offers an unrivaled way to manage your precious screen estate.
• It doesn't matter whether your device is one of these beloved pioneer Android phones or if you run the latest and greatest flagship: Lightning doesn't waste CPU nor memory; the app strives to remain light and fast for everyone.

With its wide range of features, Lightning perfectly copes with all kind of home screens: classic, minimalist, gesture based, with side bars or moveable panels,... Lightning doesn't limit you to a particular scheme: it aims to free your creativity instead. Essentially, this home screen can do everything you can imagine.

Key Features (not an exhaustive list):

• Highly customizable desktop: change font, size, color, wallpaper, grid lines, folder options, status/navigation bar colors, layouts, scrolling & zooming options, events, actions, gestures, pretty much everything.

• Unique limitless desktop: a desktop is a surface growing as needed, in all directions. Move an icon to the right or left and a new page will be automatically created. And it works for pages above and below too! This means as much space as needed for your apps, and also a much more efficient navigation.

• As many desktops as needed: one for private, work, party, kids, etc. Add, remove and re-arrange desktops at will, each desktop being an independent and unlimited setup.

• Combined grid and free positioning: use the grid to easily align apps, use free positioning to adjust the size, position and rotation of any item (including widgets).

• Pinned items: prevent any item from moving when scrolling your pages. This is handy to create docked elements anywhere on the screen, and more.

• Scripting support: use JavaScript to unleash the full Lightning power. Load user contributed scripts to extend your setup, or create your own. With Lightning Launcher scripts, only sky is the limit!

• And lots more: enhanced app drawer, panels, Tasker integration, lock screen, floating desktop,... Please visit the developer homepage for detailed feature list, manual and how to’s.

Things to be aware of (please read this notice):

• With its wide set of options and switches, Lightning has a learning curve. But isn't that a small price to pay to get the most exciting and unique home screen ;-) Join the user community to get tips and tricks!

Lightning is in constant evolution thanks to a continuous and incredible user feedback (first release in August 2011). All comments, suggestions and bug reports are welcome. For bug reports, suggestions and any other questions, please visit the Lightning Launcher Community at

Google Play Reviews

  1. Irun Hendaye-avatar

Best launcher on *any* device (Android, iOS or Windows Mobile). Unfortunately, as others have noted, it doesn't work 100% with Android 10/Q gestures (not even if you revert to the single bar/'pill' of Android 9/P) - hope this gets fixed soon.

  2. Rodolfo Borges-avatar

Flexibility is king! There is a considerable learning curve until you can get it the way you want, but the results are worth it. This is a very capable, light and flexible launcher.

  3. antonio c-avatar

Disappointing. It might be my fault but having the proper version of Android does not ensure that the app is tailored to your actual screen. It happened with three smartphones all the way from 4.2 to 9, being the phones relatively common ones (note 2 Samsung to Xiaomi n8t).

  4. Marc Rieken-avatar

This is without a doubt the best launcher ever. I am very sad that I just found this now since f***in next launcher started acting up more and more. I hope that the dev at least keeps it running. I am a tinkerer and this launcher let's you customize EVERYTHING. It takes a bit fiddling until you get the hang of it but from that point on its pure awesomeness

  5. Gennady Karbovnichy-avatar

    Gennady Karbovnichy

    - Not compatible with Android 10 Gesture Navigation (gestures cannot be enabled when set as Home App) - setColor does not work from Android 10 - ClearText HTTP requests do not work since last update (14.3) Developer does not respond to the emails.

  6. Travis Hammell-avatar

My absolute favourite app on the Play Store and one of the main reasons I could never switch to Apple products. This is the first thing I download when I get a new phone, and one of the few which actually works. A recent UI update to the editor has made it so I can't figure out how to change the events on my app/folder icons, nor the icon style or text style or etc. Could you please let me know how or revisit that menu?

  7. Jborhi Ari-avatar

This app by far has the most options in regards of customization, such as nested folders, widgets in folders and much more. However, for all it has right, this launcher has also had a drought of updates, and when it does update, the app breaks even further, leaving this as a buggy mess. I sincerely hope to see this app prosper again.

  8. John Dell'Aquila-avatar

    John Dell'Aquila

Extremely customizable, really a launcher toolkit. I desperately want to use this because it does things no other launcher can but there are some shortcomings. The documentation wiki is incomplete, the Google+ user forum is about to disappear (has been relocated 😊), and the app has bugs on latest hardware and software. Hoping a new release improves things.

  9. Norman Ashton-avatar

I have used Lightning Launcher for several years. It was fantastic. Unfortunately something has changed in the creation of new folders. When I select a new folder and place it on the desktop it is now transparent instead of black with a cross to separate the icons of apps inserted in the folder. When I am able to install the earlier type of folder I will award 5 stars.

  10. Richard Morgan-avatar

App itself is excellent. However, it is needlessly difficult to set up because the instructions lack almost eveything the user might want to know, like how to resize widgets. (Spoiler - it is actually possible!) The hints that occasionally pop up can be useful, though.

  11. David Moksha-avatar

Lightning Launcher is best for the power user who is willing to take time to set up their optimal working space. It provides an amazing and unmatched set of features, allowing every behavior I could imagine wanting. Forums are active and dev is responsive, although not always immediately.

  12. Tony Middleton-avatar

If your into Customisation , Just forget any other launcher this is the King ... More options and settings than you could possibly imagine also super lightweight ...! Never going to use anything else now that I've started using this launcher .... Amazing work Pierre 🙂 Edit: Tried a few launcher in-between different lightning launcher setups, but I'm addicted to lightning as nothing comes close to it's level of awesomeness .... ! 🙂

  13. Marcin-avatar

No other launcher comes any close to this one in terms of customization and adjustability. 7 stars for this.

  14. Jade Cheung-avatar

A while ago I changed my review from 5 stars to 3 stars… but I've put it straight back up to 5. After a long time there has been a good update and lots more scripts. I'm having a lot of fun with this launcher again. thank you sooo much for this amazing launcher!!!

  15. Cico Mico-avatar

i love the idea, but way to much time consuming. sadly i had to refund. Would be nice an inbetween interface that has way more then the basics but not that complicated.

  16. Greg-avatar

Beautiful! Remarkably well done! I've only begun to scratch the surface of this launcher. Most customizable launcher I've ever seen! Thanks so much dev for such a great app <3 :) :)

  17. Nic Pereira-avatar

Used to work super well as long as you worked on the Customization. Now clashes a bit with the new pie. Still mostly works

  18. Gene Anderson-avatar

An update would be nice. At least to fix that I can no longer search through icon pack to apply individual icons.

  19. J Dagenais-avatar

Love the app except for the constant blank white screen that pops up Every day. Other than that great!

  20. Michael Fields-avatar

Very very customizable but very difficult to get the hang of.

  21. Alexander Android-avatar

    Alexander Android

    Doesn't support most icon packs.

  22. Terry Voss-avatar

once you get used to this you most likely wont go back to anything else...

  23. A Google user-avatar

Hands down the best launcher . any possibility of adding a substratum like section to theme complete elements ?

  24. Tripwire ///-avatar

Absolutely the best, hands down, nobody comes close

  25. Darkness Of A Flying Toster-avatar

    Darkness Of A Flying Toster

    A good launcher of alternative...

  26. Vex Vesper Fox-avatar

my only launcher. i root my phone and make this a system app, then uninstall the stock launcher 😁

  27. Deanomx43-avatar

    An excellent Launcher

  28. C.A. Carpenter-avatar

When will Android 10 be fully supported?

  29. Colin Jones-avatar

    By far the best launcher

  30. R Viswa Chandra-avatar

    R Viswa Chandra

The King of launchers.... the rest are pretenders.

  31. Marco Flores-avatar

    best launcher period

  32. Al Belloga-avatar

I have been using this launcher since it came out. From the free version until I bought the app. It never failed me. I tried other launchers, but this is still the best so far. Across Android versions, different phones, I never had any problems. Still the King of Customization!

  33. Andrew Haws-avatar

I love this launcher. No matter what phone I may have to end up using, I can have my desktop just the way I want it. I even built a widget to look just like one I liked but wasn't working that well. Update: still using after 2+ years!

  34. boro vinkovna-avatar

Best launcher ever! Its a bit hardware demanding, but if you like fine tuning - there's nothing better on the market!

  35. LaChaDerp-avatar

Fixed my issue with the floating empty unusable space for my s10e so I'm happy again with everything about this launcher.

  36. Walter S-avatar

Highly configurable and fast, l love it. On my phone it uses just 10 MB of RAM, this is almost negligible :-)

  37. Edward Jones-avatar

When you can make a running moving script & with no grids. One big canvas top-bottom-left-right. Now tell Nova. To do that!

  38. Greg Palladini-avatar

LG V20 - Really a great launcher, although I've spent more time with an easier Home, Lightning is Very Good!

  39. Csabi Csabi-avatar

    oooooooh yeah, finally 😁 thanks!

  40. Adam Rodowicz-avatar

    Cool launcher.

  41. Michael Janis-avatar

This is my first non-default launcher. I am impressed with what it could do plus it has a Tasker plugin. Excellent flexibility and I haven't turned expert mode on yet. Revised: Turned expert mode on to work with the scripts. Very impressive. Edit: 9 months later I am still very impressed with this launcher. Edit 2: Just switched to Samsung with Pie. Works like a charm. Great launcher. I did encounter the same issue as another person posted. My phone app did not work from my existing (restored) shortcut. I was able to get it working by reselecting my phone application..

  42. Jay M-avatar

Absolutely incredible. Super customisable, SMOOTH, FAST, and just overall an excellent launcher! Really can't go wrong with this no matter what your style is. Has some very useful and unique features such as Desktops and scripting. It has a bit of a learning curve initially, but after a couple days you get used to it. The website has many resources and FAQs. The Google+ community is very responsive and helpful as well. Gotta love it when an app has a community behind it to show support.

  43. Aaron R-avatar

i just updated to Android 9.0 on my Galaxy note 8. It seems that the phone app is not working with the launcher. I hope this gets fixed and any others bugs because I've invested so much time and effort and comfort on this launcher. please do something.

  44. Scot Ranney-avatar

Lightning Launcher let's me create the desktop I want just how I want it. It's super fast and never gets in the way. It's on my top three must have apps list. I started using Lightning Launcher years ago when my Nexus One finally couldn't handle anything else. The low memory and cpu consumption made that old relic run fast again. I also used LL on my Nexus 5, and now it's running on my Pixel 3. If you like making things work the way you want without limitations, give LL a try.

  45. A Google user-avatar

The BEST! Large learning curve, but that's to be expected with a super powerful launcher like this one. No other launcher comes slightly close. Thanks for all the hard work!

  46. Yoav Daniel Bar-Ness-avatar

    Yoav Daniel Bar-Ness

A masterpiece. Its apps like these that remind you how derivative the others are. This is a gem of a program...

  47. Henry Young-avatar

when an object is in vertical pin mode, that object disappears from desktop, pls fix , this is very frustrating

  48. Ludvig Berg-avatar

    Best launcher ever.

  49. A Google user-avatar

I'm really glad I got my 'desktop' customized the way I like it before the developer completely changed the UI. I don't even know how to do simple stuff like copy item styles anymore and his wiki/docs do not apply to this new version. It's still one of the best launchers out there and I still love it. But I just don't have the time to re-learn all the controls and interface, I did it once, and just don't want to go through it all again. It's really worth 5 stars, but for something this complex, it NEEDS a current wiki or support docs.

  50. Fredrik Lind-avatar

I cannot rate this highly enough. Really, this is the only launcher an Android power user needs. It's complicated and slightly messy, but it can do EVERYTHING. Nested scrolling panels, padding/margin editing, different icon sets for different objects... If you just want a nice looking launcher without messing about - look elsewhere. But if you're like me, and spend hours tweaking everything, look no further. Great when combined with Kustom (of course).

  51. Tony Godshall-avatar

I can set up a single panel launcher with touch and slide gestures so I can access all my favorite apps with a quick touch or swipe. I can put the date and time and battery remaining in plaintext without buggy widgets. I can back up my home launcher config, xfer it with Astro and GDrive and restore it on another device. (Share to GDrive or Gmail Drafts crashes the app though)

  52. Bill Haddad-avatar

Sorely in need of an update. I'm getting lots of force closes on my new OnePlus 6. In reverse landscape orientation it draws the desktop and its menus under the nav bar leaving some check boxes inaccessible. I'm locked into this app and I'm sticking with it as long as I can. I'm unaware of another launcher that lets you set completely different layouts for portrait and landscape, from icon placement to number of rows and columns.

  53. Djinn Weasel-avatar

I've been using this launcher for a few years now. Here and there a few bugs and glitches but everythings fixed so far. At least for me. Still works on android 8. Keep up the good work!

  54. R.T. Sun-avatar

Finally after long years with AWN Launcher, I found another launcher which is so light and even more customizable. Worth every penny. Anyone who found no launcher can serve their needs good enough should try this one.

  55. Burt-avatar

I've installed and uninstalled this so many times I've lost count. I can tell there is a lot of potential with this launcher, but you shouldn't have to watch a YouTube video to learn how to configure it. I guess if you like to spend more time configuring your phones desktop, than actually using it, this might be for you.

  56. Jordan Waka-avatar

This launcher lets you customise literally everything. You can even make your own widgets with this thing if you have the patience it gives you that much freedom. A power user like myself gains so much freedom to tweak and customise the experience of using my phone exactly how I need it. I have even created layouts for my non power user friends and family to give them a simple an easy UI for there phone's my Grandfather can now use a smart phone without needing to learn the basics of how everything works as I was able to customise it that well. Worth getting for anyone who needs full control without rooting your phone.

  57. Kiambu-avatar

NOT very HELPFUL questions, don't ask him, you'll die from silence first!!!! NEEDS A UPDATE!!!! This dev is INCOMPETENT for leading customers on, and not continuing his duties as a dev since he's still charging for his apps, but NOT keeping them updated...since were paying for them!!! I say boycott his apps since he's money hungry...but TOO LAZY to keep updates to his apps as his responsibility!!!

  58. A Google user-avatar

Used to be great. Now it goes into some kind of half working mode where button to bring up app apps doesn't work and home button doesn't bring up home screen. Sigh. Back to something else.

  59. Tim-avatar

I can't seem to expand the notification tray with a gesture, LL does nothing when I swipe down. Samsung Note 3, Lollipop 5.0

  60. A Google user-avatar

I have been using this launcher since 2016, and this is one of the first apps I install after formatting or buying a new phone. This is the peak of a customisable launcher. Nothing beats lightning launcher

  61. Bas Ammerlaan-avatar

My favourite launcher, able to create exactly the desktop I want. Too bad development is on a hold...

  62. A Google user-avatar

I've been using this for years and loving it. I recently installed it on my third phone and it said my phone app couldn't be found. Going to "all apps" and using the refresh option in the menu fixed it.

  63. Chris Denney-avatar

Love the launcher but newly installed apps are not appearing after Oreo update on Note 8. Have to open them from play store.

  64. stiv wogner-avatar

It's a very nice launcher, but it doesn't support the screen format of the xaumi mi 8, so I have on the bottom and on the top black stripes

  65. Tifa X-avatar

This best laincher with beautiful template, but sometimes is crashes and not stable, i hope next dev fix that and update the launcher, thanks

  66. Anne-Elizabeth Hawley-avatar

    Anne-Elizabeth Hawley

Been using Lightning for years now to make my phone truly unique and personal. I love it. Google Pixel XL currently running 8.1.0

  67. Ethan Quirt-avatar

'n owe it all to "yaya" shorting "Yaya" since I am so unread. Hee hee. Hell of a launcher if you want a platform, practically. The best I found. String cheese or pq--/: le e as e, genetically, or your buckets wholy on my head. Or something thin key. Get along. The logo is a lil bit misleading the other who's surging forward stumbling but remarkably sturdy and worthy of at last and least not getting nearly so much out of the effort as "peasant"ers squasqerm team of redeem has of my still rarely stub but not shot "gun," sho'soso. I worked my mind and the rest of me well enough through that slog and throughout, Moddiou: xxoo. You ate my dad some. He you?

  68. A Google user-avatar

Looks like everything works with Oreo now. Still the most customizable launcher out there.

  69. Sam Gooday-avatar

Lightning launcher is amazing but Pierrox could you update it to work well with the s9 and how do I get notification count on the icons

  70. Kena-Chan-avatar

CUSTOMIZABLE!!! no really, this app lets you do stuff you didn't even consider to be an option

  71. Chris Hoffman-avatar

crashes on tv box. will not start even once.

  72. Chris Wood-avatar

Simply the Best!! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 Merry Christmas! Pierre! The best App in the playstore!

  73. andrew boley-avatar

I hate the screens I wanted less to deal with, just give me the lightest launcher settings so I can move on

  74. LinusDev-avatar

I really love the customizability of this launcher, but I prefer the look of Nova which is sad, because i'd love to have all these features!

  75. Grotty Rogue-avatar

NEEDS an update asap, not working well on Note 8 Oreo

  76. Kasey Starnes-avatar

Highest level of customization I've seen available in a launcher!

  77. Fate Smith-avatar

Good launcher. But deleted apps, the icons can't be removed.

  78. Luke Tych-avatar

  79. ALTON BENALLY-avatar

IF you like customizing your phone's desktop, home screens, themes, icons, etc, then I highly recommend this. I've spent hours customizing and have been impressed. KWGT Widget also makes this an awesome experience! CONS: Cannot double-tap to lock my phone. Launcher's "Lock-Screen" is very glitchy. Icon Pack could have a better UI. Not a fan of the APP Drawer either..

  80. Chris Kushnir-avatar

Paid user. Nexus 6P.. For last week or so it keeps dying - much more often than it used to. Not sure if due to LL update or Google update. Like ability to resize icons, and control grid size for precise control over placements. Love the virtual desktop and ability to put pages anywhere and scroll in all directions. [Update 2017-12-20] Has been solid on Pixel XL w/ Oreo.

  81. Icke Star-avatar

Launcher gives the Ability to Customize; Lockscreens, Wallpaper, Icon/App; Size/Shape/Folders ... Flip Desktops infinetely Vertically/Horizontally/Diagonally... And, if You screw-up Your Launcher fooling-around, You can go back to a Previously Saved "Backup"... Unbelievable, UnReal, Must Have Android App. Only Wish Android had an App which is the equivalent to "Windows Restore", so if You get a Virus on Your Phone, You could "Restore" it the same way it was before downloading an infected file.

  82. Germán Camilo Martínez Villate-avatar

    Germán Camilo Martínez Villate

This has to be by FAR the best launcher ever made. However, it is absolutely in compatible with Android versions from 7 up, with Android Oreo is practically unusable. And it seems that the developer abandoned the project. So my best advice is to keep away and use something else something up to date, don't waste your money on this.

  83. Matthew Brooks-avatar

Finally there's a launcher that can keep all the icons in the same physical location, and simply rotate them to remain upright. I have no idea why it took so long for a launcher to do it, but I'm thrilled that it's now possible. Thank you for solving an issue that has been bugging me ever since I got my first smartphone years ago.

  84. A Google user-avatar

Lots to appreciate about just how versatile this launcher is. Your desktop can look exactly how you want it. It's extremely customizable. Editing anything can be tedious because of the slow fade-in animation every menu has, which can't be disabled. The app drawer is clunky, ugly, and difficult to customize. On initial installation, about eighty percent of the icons were blanked out in app drawer, requiring a great deal of time just to fix them one by one.

  85. b g-avatar

It no longer lets me edit widget sizes and is getting infuriating to use. Also no longer seems to put in new windows just by moving an icon into space. It used to be my favourite launcher; now I'm beginning to hate it because it's too awkward to customise

  86. César Durán-avatar

Changing to Nova because it doesn't work with KLWP properly, especifically the scrolling part, even when the scrolling for the wallpaper has been enabled. Another thing is that I noticed that when using in conjunction with KLWP is less responsive than with Nova.

  87. Soniboy84-avatar

Have potential, but adding the simplest things are a pain in the arse. Then when you spend 6 hours with a screen and one morning it disappears and you can't recover it you leave a one star review. Not worth the money and effort. Uninstall

  88. Yiannis Theocharakis-avatar

    Yiannis Theocharakis

Nice app with potential to get 5 stars. One drawback and at the same time suggestion to the developer is to implement widget preview before selecting and applying because now we have no idea of what widget will look like.

  89. Artificial-avatar

Brilliant - really makes every launcher look amateur. At first, it may seem like a bland launcher, but once you learn the ropes, you come to realize the features here are truely remarkable. This launcher is lightweight, HIGHLY customizable, and has more in-depth customizability than any launcher on the play store! Plus - it can further be endless with KLWP. Additionally constant updates makes this a perfect launcher for anyone needing to step into a bigger world of homescreen possibilities. The UI could use some polishing, but the overall product makes nova look a generation behind. REQUEST: I have a small request, can you please implement a smoother scrolling setting? I love how lightning feels, however at times when I'm mindlessly scrolling between pages, I feel there is a blocky feel. I fixed it with a script, but I do think it would be a nice polish.

  90. Holly Lonzo-avatar

I used to have some issues with this launcher but they have seemed to be resolved in updates. The options are limitless. If you like customizing or want to learn this is a good app to mess around with.

  91. Mark Pablo-avatar

Bit difficult to set up at times, but by far the most customizable launcher on the market, and the one that uses the least resources. I like it! Update; keep coming back to this powerful launcher, think it's the best.

  92. Lord Delacroix-avatar

The feature set, support and quality of this software is truly World Class. Hats off to Pierre for his dedication and his remarkable skill set! Not sure how, but this keeps getting better!

Love this app, you can customize everything. Could do with more up to date video tutorials. Not sure if it is still being supported and updated. Please keep this app going.

By far most flexible launcher. Takes some time to learn, but very logically organized. Only launcher that allows separate portrait and landscape designs. Folders could be easier, and misses an easy way for unread batches. But easily solved with Notifyer app.

The best! Must consider ability to move things like action bar and other such bars\do buttons to the bottom of the screen rather than top as screens get bigger and tougher to reach the top

Great Launcher, give it some time and you'll get to grips with what makes it great, wish there were more options for unread count badges (which apps they work with) but other than that.

I have never come across any launcher with this much minute level of customisation and raw power. Kudos to the developer.

Superb flexibility. The most versatile launcher I've come across. Lots of features not in most launchers like panels, single desk top view and more!

Superb launcher! There's no way for somebody with a little practice in this to not love it. You have to try, nothing more to be hooked with it.
