XGimp is an adaptation for Android of the app GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation), which is a freely distributed program for tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. As a result of that, the app XGimp provides many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, image editor, an expert quality photo retouching program, an image renderer, or an image format converter.

XGimp is the app GIMP that runs remotely, so it has the same features:

  - Suite of painting tools including Brush, Pencil, Airbrush, Clone, etc.
  - Image editor.
  - Sub-pixel sampling for all paint tools for high quality anti-aliasing.
  - Extremely powerful gradient editor and blend tool.
  - Supports custom brushes and patterns.
  - Full alpha channel support.
  - Layers and channels.
  - Multiple Undo/Redo.
  - Editable text layers.
  - Transformation tools including rotate, scale, shear and flip.

It also includes a local image editor to modify graphics, images and photos. It is based on the open source app "Pocket Paint":

  - This local image editor provides the tools: brush, line tool, cursor, fill tool, stamp, circle/ellipse, cropping, flipping, zooming, rectangle, image importing, eraser, moving, and rotating.
  - Drawing in full screen.
  - Change the line width and shape.
  - Color palette & RGBa values.

I needed to view my GIMP images on a portable device, so I tried this app. Imagine my surprise, when the app refused to open a .xcf file! One star because zero isn't an option. Deleted.

I've used the Gimp on Linux and Windows® for many years and like it better than I did Photoshop. I can't get it to work on this Android. I just tried to open a .jpg and it says no app found to open this file. It worked for a minute and was starting to work and I had to uninstall it to get it to work again and that does that after I reinstalled it I'm on a Motorola Ace 5G The phone is really fast and plenty of memory and everything.

The app was unable to configure my preferences for something as simple as a filled or not filled circle. It also kept freezing when I would hit icons on the screen. terrible. same program on the computer works great!

This app will not natively open Gimp files (.XCF) so is useless for me, since this is what I wanted to do. That said, it's an OK photo editor. However, beware: when you press the Gimp icon (in the app), it imports your image into the REAL Gimp running on a Linux server somewhere in the world 😲 Whilst the "online" version works very well, just as Gimp desktop, beware that any files you create or import will be stored on the server and can be accessed by anyone, so proceed with caution!

This is not Gimp as I know it at all. I have been using Gimp on my computer for years it is fantastic, this is not it! How dare you even put the name on this, it is lame, it sucks, it is nothing like what I have grown to love, It is so simplified that it is worthless. I understand the need to simplify it some for android but you went way to far. Show us what you offer not the original program in the preview. I am going to uninstall and go with a better app there are a lot of them out there.

I was suggested to use this app and I tried it, couldnt even launch the app. It kept flashing black and white and when I tried to leave the app it wouldn't let me. Not to mention when I tried importing an image it just... shut down. Would not reccomend.

Dreadful app. Those wanting/expecting a GIMP user experience akin to the desktop version as purported in the description will be sorely disappointed. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the previews are entirely inaccurate and bear no resemblance whatsoever to what you'll actually see while using this (poorly constructed) app.

Very functional image editing app. My only issue is that it seems a bit... Difficult to operate as it's controls don't seem very intuitive. Otherwise it's very powerful and Open source, so I'm a big fan.

This is garbage. Pics are not app! Opens to mess list of my devices files, no support for pen sensitivity, UI not intuitive, really awkward, after opening new canvas and backing out it wouldn't allow me to open another w/out allowing access to downloads folder which I did multiple times with no effect. No layers, extremely aggravating ads everywhere. Hit a button that was the logo and taken to laggy Windows 95 MSPaint looking environment.

Does not run on my Samsung Galaxy S8. Only once did it ask permission to access the MicroSD card while attempting to use it to open an image, but that screen quickly vanished and the screen turned white. The next few times I attempted to open the app directly, the screen turned white and the app remained frozen. Uninstalled.
