Import of articles from Pocket took a few days but worked in the end. I'm using the paid hosting on Wallabag.it, since self-hosting is not a project I need right now.

If you want to use it free, you must have your own web server. That said, I logged onto my admin account for domain, and there was already a wallabag plug-in available. It was a little tricky to figure out what wallabag was asking for, but the app populates everything automatically, and after going back and forth copying and pasting data, it works great. I just wish it would save an entire webpage for offline viewing. It only saves small amounts of some pages.

Ever since the August 20 update, login fails on the app. Error - wallabag service not found - check URL. But I can log in via browser just fine. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no change.

I'm a complete tech idiot but managed to get the free version to work on all of my devices I am loving it.. be nice to have some other folders and color code stuff

Well deserves 5 stars. The app is free, and for the service behind it, either you install it for free on your server if you know how, or you just pay a cheap price of 9 Dollars/Euros a year for their Wallabag.it service (a good price.) I compared it to Pocket app which I had it premium paid for a higher price than this 9 dollars a year. It has all the main features of pocket at a cheaper price. Well done. I recommend it.

Counterpoint to all the one star reviews, I've been hosting my own Wallabag server for a few years and had no lasting problems. The app has had sync issues where certificates were not trusted (let'sencrypt) and the local cache had to be wiped but most of the issues people talk about are network/hosting and nothing to do with Wallabag, either end. Things can still be improved and I'd like to see soon are scrolling using the track area not just the screen but it's much the same as Pocket.

I just wish they’d make these apps and how to work them much easier than they currently do. I came across wallabag on an alternatives to Pocket and GrabMyBooks site and decided to give it a run, liking the fact the it was open source and free. But my problems were just about to start. First, on the Chrome version, it asks for a domain name. Well, I don’t understand such stuff about domain names, etc. I can just about turn on my the computer. So, after a time, I decided to leave the Chrome extension and give the android app a run instead; surely this would be a lot simpler; a piece of cake, I thought. I then downloaded and installed the app, only to have the same type of issues about domains for a second time. I then went online and, after a while, set up an account with wallabag and found that I could then get the app working, without knowing about domains or being a tech wizard. But then I noticed that I was on a trial period, after which, as I read it, I’d have to take out some kind of subscription to continue using the app/account. So, at this point, I deleted my account, removed the app from my phone and browser, and wished I’d never bothered in the first place. 1 star.

I'd love to use this app together with my own private Wallabag installation on my own Linux server, but I can't get the server running. I know, I hate reading manualls, I did it all the same, but I could not get the server up an running. I won't try it again, without a 'Wallabag for dummies (the database part)' or serious support from Linux distributions (e.g. Debian). It's a pity, as I like the idea of it. 2⭐ for the overall experience :o(
