With this easy-to-use app, you can practice mindfulness meditation anywhere, anytime with the guidance of the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center. Scientific research shows mindfulness can help manage stress-related physical conditions, reduce anxiety and depression, cultivate positive emotions, and help improve overall physical health and well-being.
Mindfulness is the practice of training the mind to be present through moment-to-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, body sensations and environment. Mindfulness promotes an attitude of openness, curiosity, and a willingness to be with our experience. Through regular practice, taught through this app, you can develop a meditation practice and learn to bring more mindfulness into your daily life.
This app offers:
- Basic Meditations for getting started, in both English and Spanish
- Wellness Meditations for people suffering from challenging health conditions
- Informative videos exploring how to get started, supportive meditation postures, and the science of mindfulness
- Weekly podcasts from UCLA's Hammer Museum-- a 30 minute meditation on different themes you can search for and bookmark
- A timer to meditate on your own
The Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC), is an educational and research center dedicated to fostering mindful awareness practices to promote health, well-being, and a compassionate society. It is located at the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Due to MARC's mission of radical accessibility of mindfulness practices, this app is entirely free to the user.

I love UCLA's meditations and was very happy when this app came out. However, there is no dark mode to this app, hence the 4 stars. I use meditation to fall asleep and even when my phone is dimmed, the app is too harsh for me. Add a dark mode without taking away anything and I'll be a 5 star reviewer!

The videos in the 'Getting started' section won't play because of their 'privacy settings '. Also, about half of the podcasts fail to load.

This app is so simple and good. There are just a few meditations, but you can redo them over and over. I highly reccomend!

To be honest, the app itself is a bit clunky, but the content is so rich, and to have easy access to it in an app, has already been extremely helpful in my life in just the few days I've been using it. The podcasts are especially wonderful and an amazing tool I am so grateful to have. And for free!! I came to download UCLA Mindful after listening to Diana's conversation on the Waking Up app. It's now also become a part of my daily routine for mental self care.

I'll try to reinstall, but at the moment, either the meditation downloads are unsuccessful or they skip and repeat like a broken record. UPDATE: I've downloaded the latest version which was supposed to have fixed this bug, but no luck! It's like listening to Max Headroom ( showing my age). UPDATE: 11/9/2019 version; Most of the skipping audio is gone, but not entirely. Podcasts still skipped several times in the first minute or so, maybe a buffering problem?

This has been a great app. Of course, it was a bit frustrating when the app seemed to be skipping or bits of the audio were looping. It would be nice if the variety of meditations would rotate or change once in a while

Ive never in my life given a review before but this app is a blessing. Its helped me so much to calm down and relax when i start ruminating too much on what could have been and what could become. Especially when i have trouble sleeping and sometimes asmr doesnt cut it.

Content is very rich but it playback is not good. I am struggling for last 10 minutes to figure what is triggering the loopback while trying meditation. Had to stop and check the reviews here. It happens with me only with screen off. If I am staring at it with screen on, it keeps working fine. Sad.

Looks like this app works a dream on ios having looked at their reviews, however on android for me, it keeps stopping multiple times throughout listening, sometimes for long periods that I give up. I love the content but will have to download one at a time from the interney to enjoy, hence app is mostly useless to me.

I used this app for a short time at a location without WiFi. DON'T DO IT! it used 8.3gb of data in one night after I used the Body Scan for sleep meditation. It apparently doesn't turn itself off as it says it does. Cost me $40 to add to my data plan so I could make it through the month! I uninstalled it immediately.
