There will be a new master! Join young Friiti on his retro Pelimanni* adventure through the haunting sceneries of the north as he embarks on a journey to become a Master Pelimanni. On his way the brave fiddler encounters a number of talented but dangerous mentors from the mythological Näkki to the Devil himself, and the stakes are high: either play your best or you're out of the game! Pelimanni 8bit is a platformer game that takes you into the bygone world of folk stories and traditional fiddle music and wraps it up in a package that reminds you of the golden classics of early gaming consoles. Released by the Finnish Folk Music Institute and created by Jimmy Träskelin with 8 bit score by Antti Janka-Murros, Pelimanni 8bit is an entertaining and impressive piece of fantasy with a deep foundation in historical folk tradition and lore. (*Pelimanni: Finnish word for a person who has acquired a skill in playing traditional folk music, usually learned by ear from other pelimannis) Features: * Eight unique levels filled with creatures and phenomenons from Finnish folk mythology * Eight Pelimanni bosses to beat on your way to become a Master Pelimanni * Traditional platformer controls * Beautiful retro graphics * 8-bit score and sound effects programmed with retro hardware

Haven't made it to the end, but form what I can tell it's ok. Although sometimes I fell through something that I thought was a platform. And you can only sometimes double jump. The sad man scared me the first time he came. But I have no idea how to avoid him. Good game but add a double jumping option, have the character hide in bushes to avoid the sad man, lower the difficulty and lags, and give the sad man creepy music. And I think the gameplay would improve. 3 stars for this.

Short but sweet but! It gets verrry slow sometimes idk why I even turned off wifi all apps closed, also some enemy hitboxes feel a bit too large overall pretty good.

The game is such a rough gem. The difficulty skyrockets, but you don't become frustrated with it. What is frustrating are the game mechanics in particular levels. Some areas are unreachable as you aren't taught where you're able to "double-jump". The devil's sauna and grave yard are horribly laggy compared to the other levels, which in the devils sauna messes with ones focus. The Näkki -level is painful along with every level that has a moving platform. The character starts to fidget on it as it moves, and it is near impossible to move or jump in a predetermined direction. In näkki, you'll easily finish the platforming 'til the boss fight. The up and down boulders don't allow you to jump off them while sinking, if not mashing the jump button like a maniac. It simply isn't fun and really, REALLY hard to complete. The theme of Finnish (and Nordic?) folkmusic is refreshing and the story is nice and simple. The graphics are neat and feel old school. Downloaded for graphics, stayed for music, ragequit.
