I have found the Flame Boss (Flame Boss 300) to be an excellent device for controlling the temperature in my Big Green Egg. I have had a couple of problems related to connecting the controller to my smartphone for remote monitoring, but these have been quickly resolved by customer service. There is not a lot of documentation accessible from the app to help troubleshooting problems.

Works pretty good. Alarms don't seem to always work when my phone is locked/asleep, alarm texts also seem intermittent

The Flame Boss 500 is great, but this app is garbage. Constantly losing connection to the controller. Never could get it to connect through the cloud, so I use a local connection. Even with all of androids power management for this app disabled, it can't stay connected to the controller, so alarms are useless. I've spent more time closing and restarting the app just to get it to work.

The device itself does a good job keeping a stable temperature in my smoker, but the internet connectivity of the device and the functionality of the app in connecting to the device are extremely unreliable. Today it dropped the connection after a couple hours and simply will not reconnect to the cloud. Local connect mode is a little more reliable after the 4.06 update but still not great. On startup the app sometimes says there are no controllers registered (desipite a controller appearing on the screen behind the popup). The menu layout is not intuitive and given the frequency of connection drops it is annoying that you can't switch modes from the cook screen, you have to bail out and change the mode under "profile". The cook time listed on the web site doesn't match the app (app uses local time while the site appears use eastern time always? My phone knows where I am, can't the app tell the server?) Today in local connect mode, the app would lose connectivity but still show "connected" in the cook page while showing stale data. Htiting "back" would send the app into a "unable to connect" popup where the only options were "switch mode" and "retry" (no cancel, stop, etc).

I've had the Flame Boss 400 since May '19 and have used it many times without issue. The app itself is intuitive and gives you all the data you need no matter where you are. I had a problem today where it suddenly went offline and I couldn't get reconnected. I called and Marcus answered. I'm so glad he did. He was really helpful and got me back online in a few minutes. I've recommended Flame Boss and this app to a lot of my friends. Even those of my friends that bought the higher priced competitor, are now considering this one because of the features and the savings.

Excellent, product and app. I have used my FB300 for several years now. It's been great for everyone of my hundreds of cooks. I recently got a pellet grill that had a built in temperature control with Wifi. This new grill was almost $3k and everytime I use it I keep finding things that my flame boss and BGE do better. I love that you can keep cook logs, I love that u can revisit old cooks and review them I also love the responsiveness of support. Great work Flame boss keep up the good work!

Awful - makes the product completely unusable. I got an error every time I tried to set the temperature, which also seemed to disconnect the controller. Switching to local mode didn't help as the app couldn't find the controller in this mode. Direct mode didn't work either - I was ejected from the app every time I successfully connected to the controller and when I went back into the app it was still in cloud mode and couldn't connect to my account because I was connected to the controller's wifi. I will be sending the product back and trying a competitor instead.

This app has issues! Since the last couple of updates it has gotten even worse. Crashes, does not update your temps and switches on its own from cloud to local. This is TERRIBLE. FIX IT and you get 5 stars.

When this works it is amazing. Honestly I've had a couple issues but the customer service has been outstanding. They replaced a defective unit and later some defective probes. I'm improving my rating based on their excellent customer service!

Ok I had to update this, apparently the unit itself updates itself without user input. Before this update the app simply would not work. luckily after the update it works like a charm.
