About this APK

dxterm is an app by ESO. It includes native code only for x86 64-bit and ARM 64-bit, so it won't install on phones that can only run 32-bit apps.

Since version 1.0.6, the APK grew from 13.2 MB to 31.2 MB. It asks for 7 permissions, 1 of them sensitive: access all files. It asks for the same permissions as version 1.0.6.

What's new in v1.1.0

Kali Linux now opens all the way to a prompt and is usable right away. Before, the screen stopped at the banner and the terminal felt stuck. - The prompt, command history, Ctrl-C and full-screen editors work again. - The window size is read correctly when the font or keyboard changes. - Installing packages on Kali Full runs to completion. - Building your own .deb package is no longer refused. - Tested on a phone: Kali Nano, Minimal, Full and Debian.

Description

From the listing uploaded by “catappult”.

dxterm is a terminal for Android. Use it as it comes to type commands, or install Linux inside it and work the way you would on a computer. No root needed. TERMINAL Colours, cursor shapes, scrollback and the alternate screen for full-screen programs. UTF-8 text, including wide scripts such as CJK. Select text, search the screen, copy and paste. Mouse support for programs that use it. You get up to five workspaces, each with its own shell and history, and you swipe to switch between them. Sessions keep running when you move to another app. An extra key row sits above the keyboard: arrows, Ctrl, Alt, Esc, Tab, Home, End, PgUp, PgDn, paste, search and zoom. Pinch the screen to change the font size. SETTINGS Type xset in the terminal to open the settings. They are drawn inside the terminal with a live preview: theme, font, text size and spacing, cursor shape, scrollback length, storage access and device details. Settings can be exported and imported again. LINUX With nothing installed, the app already gives you a working shell. If you want a full distribution, the app can install one inside its own storage. Inside the distro, sudo, su and apt work as usual, and .deb packages install with dpkg. On first run the app lists the distros your device can run, with the download size for each. Downloaded files are checked before anything is installed, so a corrupted or altered file never gets unpacked. There is also a build that already carries its distro, and that one installs with no network at all. STORAGE Access to phone storage is optional and is never requested at startup. Turn it on and internal storage shows up at ~/sdcard, an SD card at ~/sdcard-1. Leave it off and everything else still works. PRIVACY No ads, no tracking, no account, and nothing sent to the developer. The app goes online only when you ask it to download something.

dxterm APK: questions and answers

Can I install this APK over the version I already have?

Only if it is signed with the same certificate as the copy on your phone and isn't an older version. If Android says “App not installed”, the certificates differ; uninstalling your copy first works but deletes its data unless it is backed up.

Is the dxterm APK safe?

No one can promise that a file is safe, but some things can be checked. The source store rates this file Trusted. It is signed with the same certificate as the other version checked. After downloading, check that the file's MD5 is 5c576d695fc64a5b4996ab1f9ad2e3d2.
