The Corona-Warn-App: An Android App to Keep You Safe
The Corona-Warn-App is an Android-based mobile application created to help keep you safe during the COVID-19 outbreak. It uses advanced technology, such as Bluetooth and GPS, to help identify potential encounters with people who may have been infected with the virus. The app records this information and sends an alert if one of the users has been exposed to someone who has tested positive for the virus. The app is voluntary, but it can have a major impact on stemming the spread of the virus by helping to identify and warn people who may have been infected.
The app was developed by the Robert Koch Institute and is available for free download in the Google Play Store. When you download the app and create an account, it will prompt you to enter your age and location to create a user profile. Once activated, the app will begin to scan for other users who are also using the app and have enabled Bluetooth on their device. When two devices come into close proximity, the app will record the contact and store it in the users' smartphones. It does this anonymously, meaning that no personal information will ever be revealed.
The app also uses GPS technology to track where you have been and can alert you if you have come into contact with an area where there are known cases of COVID-19. The alert will let you know that you may have been exposed to coronavirus and should seek further medical advice.
The Corona-Warn-App is a simple but effective tool to help protect you and your family during the COVID-19 outbreak. By keeping track of your contacts and whereabouts, the app can alert you to potential risks and help you take the necessary precautions to stay safe. So, it's worth downloading and using it, as it could make a real difference to slowing the spread of the virus.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) – in its capacity as the central federal institution for public health and as the German national public health institute – publishes the Corona-Warn-App on behalf of the German government. The app serves as a digital complement to distancing, hygiene and wearing masks. It uses Bluetooth technology and the Google Exposure Notification APIs. The app is designed to help break infection chains by informing you if you were recently close to someone who subsequently tested positive for corona. However, at no time does it collect any personal information. Who you are and where you are remain secret – and your privacy is well-protected. HOW THE APP WORKS Exposure logging is the core of the app and should always be active. When enabled, smartphones exchange encrypted random IDs with other devices using Bluetooth. The random IDs only provide information about the duration and distance of an encounter. No one is able to identify the person behind these IDs. The Corona-Warn-App does not collect any information about the location of the encounter or that of its users. Based on maximum corona incubation times, the random IDs your smartphone collects are stored in an exposure log for 14 days and then deleted. If a person is diagnosed with corona and chooses to share hisher own smartphone’s random IDs, all persons previously encountered will then be notified anonymously. No one will know when, where or with whom the exposure event took place. The infected person remains anonymous. In addition to the exposure notifications, affected users will receive clear recommendations for action. Important: Information about the notified persons is not accessible at any time. HOW YOUR DATA IS PROTECTED The Corona-Warn-App is designed to be your daily companion, without knowing your identity. This is why the app cannot tell anyone who you are. Data protection is fully guaranteed throughout the app’s entire service life. • No registration required: No email address and no name need to be submitted. • No personal information is transmitted: When you encounter another person using the app, your smartphones only exchange random IDs. They measure the time and distance of an encounter, but do not allow to identify persons or find out locations. • Decentralized storage: Data is stored only on the smartphone itself and deleted after 14 days. • No third-party access: Neither the person reporting a proven corona infection, nor those who have been notified can be traced – not by the German government, the Robert Koch Institute, any other user, nor by Google. This app is not intended for any use outside of Germany. Corona-Warn-App is the main corona app for Germany, where it is interconnected with the national health care system. Despite of the above, Corona-Warn-App is also available in this country. It is provided for anyone living, working, vacationing, or visiting Germany regularly or for an extended period of time. The terms of use for the Corona-Warn-App apply: https:www.coronawarn.appassetsdocumentscwa-eula-en.pdf. By installing and using this app, you accept these terms of use.

I only use this app to store my vaccination certificates, and for that it works as intended. However, it was very difficult to install. I am an American living in Germany, and the app was not available in the play store using my USA based Google account. I was not willing to change the country of my account, so I needed to create a new German based account, add that account to my phone, then login to the Play Store with the new account before being able to install. It would be helpful if this workaround was described on the apps page of the Play Store.

Really shockingly bad that it STOPPED WORKING because I hadn't updated it. I wanted to show my vaccination certificate at an event, and the app refused to pen until I'd updated it. I was left at the box office waiting while the update downloaded and installed. What if I'd been at an airport waiting to board a plane? Really bad. To break an installed app that contains important information that might need to presented at any time is the height of stupidity.

Doesn't work for NHS vaccination codes - how can these be recognised as sufficient for entry into the country but not by your app? Recommend using Luca app instead which is recognised by most places and worked fine.

I accidentally deleted the PCR test entry since results was not displayed. Now I am not able to see the result. Will I get the results in post ? It's mad. I don't know positive or negative..now I need to reach hospital to check the results. Give some other options to test the results.

Good app. Scanned my certificate without problems. Only thing that sucks is that not enough locations want to support the check-in function at the moment.

Warnings are useful. The check in works almost nowhere, and though the UK is part of the EU passport scheme the app won't scan my UK vaccination QR codes.

Thank you. Gave now 5 * for the good support. . How do I delete a certificate? I had added it to my app for my autistic son. But now he has it in his own cellphone. . . *** Journal Bug: my notice added May 19 appears since then every day. Not posible to delete it. Edit or Remove all. z.B. 25.05.21 Places/Test Eintrag. Erschien rückwirkend täglich bis 19.05 und bis 01.06. Remove All durchgeführt am 24.05. löschte alle von 19.05. bis 01.06. Einzelne Einträge können nicht gelöscht werden.

Only good for storing my vaccination certificates, the app won't let me check in anywhere, it always states that the QR code is invalid.

Overall a very good app. It would be nice if information on the number of vaccinated people with breakthrough infection as well as hospitalisations and their ages would be available
