The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) – in its capacity as the central federal institution for public health and as the German national public health institute – publishes the Corona-Warn-App on behalf of the German government. The app serves as a digital complement to distancing, hygiene and wearing masks. Additionally, it provides a functionality to add your digital vaccination certificates to prove your vaccination status. It uses Bluetooth technology and the Google Exposure Notification APIs. The app is designed to help break infection chains by informing you if you were recently close to someone who subsequently tested positive for corona. However, at no time does it collect any personal information. Who you are and where you are remain secret – and your privacy is well-protected.
HOW THE APP WORKS
Exposure logging is the core of the app and should always be active. When enabled, smartphones exchange encrypted random IDs with other devices using Bluetooth.
The random IDs only provide information about the duration and distance of an encounter. No one is able to identify the person behind these IDs. The Corona-Warn-App does not collect any information about the location of the encounter or that of its users.
Based on maximum corona incubation times, the random IDs your smartphone collects are stored in an exposure log for 14 days and then deleted. If a person is diagnosed with corona and chooses to share his/her own smartphone’s random IDs, all persons previously encountered will then be notified anonymously.
No one will know when, where or with whom the exposure event took place. The infected person remains anonymous.
In addition to the exposure notifications, affected users will receive clear recommendations for action. Important: Information about the notified persons is not accessible at any time.
HOW YOUR DATA IS PROTECTED
The Corona-Warn-App is designed to be your daily companion, without knowing your identity. This is why the app cannot tell anyone who you are. Data protection is fully guaranteed throughout the app’s entire service life.
- No registration required: No email address and no name need to be submitted.
- No personal information is transmitted: When you encounter another person using the app, your smartphones only exchange random IDs. They measure the time and distance of an encounter, but do not allow to identify persons or find out locations.
- Decentralized storage: Data is stored only on the smartphone itself and deleted after 14 days.
- No third-party access: Neither the person reporting a proven corona infection, nor those who have been notified can be traced – not by the German government, the Robert Koch Institute, any other user, nor by Google.
This app is not intended for any use outside of Germany. Corona-Warn-App is the main corona app for Germany, where it is interconnected with the national health care system. Despite of the above, Corona-Warn-App is also available in this country. It is provided for anyone living, working, vacationing, or visiting Germany regularly or for an extended period of time.
The terms of use for the Corona-Warn-App apply: https://www.coronawarn.app/assets/documents/cwa-eula-en.pdf. By installing and using this app, you accept these terms of use.

Update: Okay, I get that this is for security reasons, but I think it would be avoidable by just allowing the user to add multiple rapid tests at the same time and only showing the newest one that already got its result on the home page, so you can add multiple tests at once and don't have to so it again for every single test.

I just got my certification (Certificate Issuer: Robert Koch-Institut) and when I scanned the QR Code it says is invalid (data in both certificates are correct). I tried several times (rotating, changing contrast/lighting, both QR-Codes) and shows the same issue. It seems to be that the app has a problem. I thought I had the poblem with the QR Code but everything is ok. I used the CovPass app and everything works properly. I hope they can fix this problem.

Why can't I use my QRCode on a secondary phone? I just bought a new one, tried to register my code and it says that "It is already registered on another device". WHY??? It is supposed to be unique to ME! Not per device! Not to mention that after updating your app on the original phone, the test dissapeared and I cannot register it again ON THE SAME DEVICE!

Good App that gets the job done, but I recently got my second shot of vaccine, but it read it as I had two times the first shot. This because I got the first shot with AZ and the second one with Biontech. They should fix it to prove that I am now fully vaccinated and not two times half vaccinated.

I am fully vaccinated and have a certificate. I simply want to scan in the QR so that I have this in the app without having to carry the paper certificate everywhere. But the app will not scan the QR code thus rendering it pretty much useless to me. The app is at version 2.5 which I understand is the latest version. Am I expecting too much I?

Since Version 2.0 of the App it works fine. In Android 11 you just need Bluetooth active which saves battery. I registered a PCR test with the QR code of the test center and the test result was shown in the app the day after. The creation of a private event qr code worked. I tested it when some friends came over The creation of the vaccination certificate was easy, just scan the QR code of both your shots in the app. It shows even a countdown when you will reach the 14 days after the second shot

Useless. None of the features have ever really worked. QR codes on tests don't work and there is little or no information in the app to help you find QR codes to add vaccinations etc. What a mess.

Quite honestly, I don't know why there are so many bad reviews. This app does what it's supposed to do, and most importantly in a privacy conscious and safe manner. If you scan the certificate as you're asked to do, there is no issue. I tried first to scan the Bavarian "Dokumentation Zweitimpfung", but that gave me an error message. It would be nice to get a graph with selectable time range (e.g. by clicking on R value number) on how the data has evolved over time and not just today's numbers.

Works very reliably now, since a long time! ____________________________ Old review: Doesn't work for me, and it's really hard to figure out what the problem is. I think the restrictions involving play store country etc are .. too restrictive. At least there should be a more precise analysis/explanation of why it thinks it should not / cannot function. Cause: 3 Something went wrong. (btw, it would help if one could copy/paste the text of the error)

Camera not working for me for when I want to scan my QR code. Gave all the app permissions required, but when I select the option to scan my digital certificate I'm just faced with a back screen.
