See what your car is doing in realtime, get OBD fault codes, car performance, sensor data and more!
Car Scanner is a vehicle / car performance / trip computer / diagnostics tool and scanner that uses an OBD II Wi-Fi or Bluetooth adapter to connect to your OBD2 engine management / ECU.
Car Scanner gives you a bunch of unique features:
1) Layout your own dashboard with the gauges and charts you want!
2) Add custom (extended PIDs) and get information, that was hidden from you by car manufacturer!
3) It can also show and reset a DTC fault code like a scantool. Car Scanner includes a huge database of DTC codes descriptions.
4) Car Scanner allows you to read free-frames (sensors state when DTC is saved).
5) Now with Mode 06 - you can get ECU self-monitoring test results. Helps you fix your car and helps keep repair costs down!
6) Check if your car is ready for emission tests.
7) Check all of the sensors at one screen
8) Car Scanner works with any vehicle that uses the OBD 2 standard (most vehicles built after 2000, but can work for vehicles as far back as 1996, check for more details).
9) Car Scanner includes a lot of connection profiles, that gives you some extra features for Toyota, Mitsubishi, GM, Opel, Vauxhal, Chevrolet, Nissan, Infinity, Renault, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda Skyactiv, and others.
10) Car Scanner dashboard includes a HUD mode, that you can use to project data to your windshield.
11) Car Scanner provides a tool for very accurate acceleration measurments (0-60, 0-100, etc.)
12) Car Scanner can be used as a trip computer and can show you fuel consumption statistics!
13) For cars of the VAG group (Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat), built on the MQB and PQ26 platforms, encoding functions are available - setting hidden parameters of the car.
14) And one more thing - Car Scanner provides the widest variety of features for FREE across the Play Market.

The app requires a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth or Bluetooth 4.0 (Bluetooth LE) OBD2 ELM327 compatible adapter (device) to work. ELM327 devices plugs into the diagnostics socket in the car and gives your phone access to car diagnostics.
Recommended adapters brands: Kiwi 3, Viecar, V-Gate, Carista, LELink, Veepeak.
If you buy one of the cheap china OBD2 ELM327 adapters from ebay / amazon, then make sure it’s not marked as v.2.1. This adapters are supported, but they have lot’s of bugs.

PLEASE NOTE: Vehicle ECUs vary in the amount of sensors supported. This app can’t show you something, that is not provided by your car.

Attention "bad" adapters! We faced the problem, that some adapters (often cheep Chinese clones), can’t connect to the smartphone or the car. Some of them can even make your car engine work unstable, often lost connection, increase time lag when reading data.
So, we recommend you to use genuine ELM327 or recommended adapter brands.

App ChangeLog

  • 1) Coding & Service now available for several Renault/Dacia models. More models coming soon!
  • 2) Added new readings for Volvo & VAG
  • 3) More modules for DTC reading on Subaru
  • 4) VAG MQB new service procedures: disengage & unlock aux. heater, climate air flaps adaptation.
  • 5) Other fixes and optimizations

I don't use most of the features of this app, but when the check engine light came on during a drive to the mountains, it was well worth having to diagnose the problem as soon as it occurred. Knew I was safe to drive the rest of the way home without damaging the car or being unsafe. Bonus is knowing exactly what is wrong before getting an estimate from a mechanic to keep them honest. The readout at the shop was identical to the info from this app. 2012 Kia.

app Brilliant app! I've used this app across iOS and Android, I use a carista Bluetooth adapter and it works seemlessly with this app. Recently my cars been misfiring, which in itself it's strange because it's fairly new. Dealer were charging £125 for diagnostics. Whereas I spent £9.99 on the carista adapter a few years ago. Shows plenty of live data and records the data for viewing later. Defos reccomend and have done so to my father who uses this app too.

review I tried a few other OBD2 apps before deciding on one, and this one was by far the best & easiest to use. In fact I couldn't get the others to work on either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Seems that for this kind of app Bluetooth is the way to go. There are too many variables with Wi-Fi & not needed anyway. For only a few $ the upgrade definitely worth it. The live data graphs are easy to understand, & with the upgrade you get to use more variables simultaneously. Download of data is also useful.

windows 10 Not convinced by this at all! My car runs like a dream, but every time I run the read OBDII DTC codes it throws up a random error, from a major fuel leak, to clutch pedal position incorrect, to no issues at all. I can read it five times in a couple of minutes and get five different results. Very confusing!

  5. Rodrigo Adami-avatar

windows download The last update broke the sensors. I cannot even see the temperature e voltage anymore. The number of available sensor decreased too when compared to what was before. Edit: for some reason the upgrade changed/broke the sensor used and setting the car again from scratch in the app resolved the issue. Now I have all sensors back again.

ios Works gives me all the access to information that many much more expensive cars don't even give, and also an ability to read codes and if needed, clear them. Well worth it, considering getting the pro version though the basic reader has many useful features. Just plug in the obd scanner, turn on Bluetooth on your phone, and away you go.

cost Only just downloaded and used for the first time to diagnose engine warning light. Very easy to use and seems to have loads of useful features. Will play with it more in the coming weeks but initial thoughts are very good.

app review Love it. Very quick and convenient tool to have, operates without fault even when I sometimes have a weak mobile data signal. Ive been using this app with the ELM327 for a couple years now on several of my vehicles. Thanks!

user manual Best scanner app ever! It has all the info you need, graphs, real time saver and real time accurate. Thanks for a great app, i just upgraded to the pro version and couldn't be happier.

vs torque pro This app is fantastic. I used to use Torque, but after my SRS airbag light came on, because water spilled on my seat, this allowed me to reset it. Really thankful for this app. So thankful that I purchased pro, just to support the developer(s).

  11. Kosmo Kramer-avatar

    Kosmo Kramer

Was impressed with the features of the free version l, so upgraded to Pro for only $5. This app is able to read 99% of sensors in my KIA & with the useful live data feature, I'd say this is the best OBD2 Android app there is.

  12. Steve Froehle-avatar

    Steve Froehle

Very decent OBD2 app, lots of options (bells & whistles). I would recommend a beginner's guide on just setting up the dashboard for basic monitoring and diagnostics. But all in all a very useful tool.

  13. WhoreHey-avatar

Purchased bluetooth odb2 adapter. An app was necessary to use with adapter. This app is simplistic and easy to navigate. I didn't need additional features but shelled out a few bucks for pro version.

Best free scaner there is. Easy to understand, easy to connect. Really good direct links. And if you apreciate the work of these guys do as I did and buy it for only £3.

By far the best OBDII app for Android. Free version gives you better functionality than most of the paid apps. Not to mention that Pro version is really cheap, so consider donating to dev's.

  17. Klok Klokker-avatar

    Klok Klokker

The last update (September the 16th) turned 'fuel used' into a pro only feature. If you want to use this feature and do not want to go pro, you should avoid this update.

It's Okey, mostly works fine, I would like to see more description of all settings/parameters which I see when connecting to car.

  23. Tae Cooke-avatar

    Tae Cooke

Lots of features and graphs. The free version is as fully featured as most would need, but makes you watch an ad every 5-10 connections. Just bought the full version and it's the first app I've paid money for on android. There are lots of customization features: they're a bit clunky to set up, but once set they're always there. Great app!

  24. Denvil Douglas-avatar

    Denvil Douglas

Really good scanner app. Just one thing though. It doesn't work completely with my JDM Subaru Forester. I'm only able to read and clear fault codes, can't get to use all the features. Could y'all look into this for the next update. At that point, I'd be more than happy to get the paid version.

  25. Moiz Husain-avatar

    Moiz Husain

Very good interface. All data and sensor info are handy. I prefer over Toruqe app. It's a must for every automotive person

  26. JP Blagburn-avatar

    JP Blagburn

Works well with my Toyota bB in spite of Toyota UK's own diagnostic equipment sometimes toiling to connect, so needless to say it's worked seamlessly with everything else that I've used it for so far. It did miss a transmission control module error on my Mitsubishi Pajero Mini but so did the specialist Mitsi equipment which costs more to use for five minutes than I spend in a year on VED and car insurance! As for that TCM, I bought a new one, job done and takes nothing from this great app.👍

  27. Lee Akers-avatar

    Lee Akers

Great when and if it will connect. Very problematic getting it to connect to the paired device.

  28. Dr Ajit Shekher-avatar

    Dr Ajit Shekher

It is very customisable and details but a few presets would be nice. Also it would be nice if it remember your choices and automatically executed them. If you open this app and Bluetooth is on it should try to connect to the obd device. Because I cannot think of any reason for using this app without connecting.

Tried out the app, and quickly bought the full version. Love it. Great for keeping track what's going on on my wife's Mazda, and after trying a couple of the different available protocols, it's definitely been very interesting for my 2010 Chevy Silverado hybrid 4 x 4 pick up. A special request for the developer: would it be possible to make a gauge that looks at transmission input shaft speed and output shaft speed to calculate an effective gear ratio number? Thanks! - Tom Z

    guarionex figueroa

So far so good. Read sensors and helped me get rid of my "service engine soon" light on my dashboard. And that was the free version. I read user's reviews and decided to buy and support these awesome developers for their hard work so I feel very secure that the full app will provide me with all of the diagnosis tools I might need with this new "beater" I just bought and mightn(or might not) have any issues with. Download to accomplish the1st, but to have peace of mind with older cars. And other's

I have tried mostly all of the apps for my ELM reader and truthfully this one is the best by a long shot. Not once has it failed me like every other one did. It has so many great options other than just clearing codes and not to mention it is a GREAT price which is why I upgraded to the pro version. Thanks and keep up the good work...💯

  35. Jason Chapin-avatar

3 starts just cause I haven't used it much yet. I had to replace Torque after years of use and that developer stopped support. What I have is is good. Have to put in demo to customize the dashboard isn't a big deal just glad it works so I don't have to be connected to get it setup how I want. Looks very customizable the little one played with it.

  36. Andrew Plaster-avatar

    Andrew Plaster

So I picked up a Micro Mechanic from Ross for 4 bucks, thought hey this seems neat and handy even for basic stuff. Short of it is, their app sucks and isn't supported at all. Find out I can use it with other apps and clicked on this one as a first try. Gotta say I'm pretty damn impressed. Free version alone provided everything my car dealer did with their monitor (which they charged $79 to check) And the premium version is pay what you will, but something like this needs support so I paid full.

So this is my first experience with in Bluetooth OBD scanner the scan tool I got is great I downloaded several apps and try them all.. but car scanner elm327 is the best one by far has the most options you will definitely want to buy the full app its well worth the money the developer even allows you to pick what you want to pay that's unheard of I recommend it..... tearing up !!!

  39. Es El Jei-avatar

    Es El Jei

Engine went into limp mode. This helped me to diagnose the problem. I have another odb2 scanner @£80 and this app along with the "plug in" that's far cheaper is the better choice for user friendliness, due to this app.

  40. Patrick Fitzgerald-avatar

    Patrick Fitzgerald

It works! I have a bluetooth OBD2 module and connected first to phone as a bluetooth device. Then the app recognized the device and connected very smoothly. It also connected repeatedly without problem. The free version limits me to how many sensors I can monitor. But this is fine. I highly recommend this app.

I Love it's a lot more accurate can be a dashboard easy to use downloaded app and I was ready to go lot better than autozone or the other plug and play ones also can look up the codes after you scan them very accurately speedometer RPMs and reading all the gauges all different functions live data awesome!!

Best app for a cheap elm327 bluetooth adapter. App is a breeze to use and has tons more features than any other I've tried yet. Also has some coding features for VW although I haven't tested that function out just yet. I did just purchase the pro version for a couple bucks and will report back after I try some vw Coding.

Seems ok, gives a readout on the all sensors page but the dashboard doesn't seem to connect all the time so the dials remain at 0. You get GPS speed but nowt else. You can customise the look of the 3 section dashboard. It's fairly basic but all I need as my car doesn't have an engine temp on the dash. Pity it's a little temperamental.

I've followed the advice and use this app with the recommended adapter to connect to the car. Generally the app works fine. However, where I've had problems is that the app does not read the 'diagnostic trouble code' from the car's computer, as it says it does. Now this maybe an issue with some limitations with the adapter or a restriction on the particular car I'm trying to read the faults on. I've read the app developers wibsite and guidance carefully and I'm pretty sure I've followed all the guidance. But when it came to support, there isn't any. There is no way of contacting the app developer to get advise on how to fix the problem. So if the app doesn't work you're on you own. Shame, because otherwise it looks like a decent app.

Not only buying this app in android version but I did buy the ios version too. Response time is reasonably quick. There are so many options and settings you can customize for your preference. I might not be able to reset everything for now-a-days vehicle monitor or reminder settings, but this app will help you a lot in diagnostics. Drive cycles data can be saved for later reference. Very user friendly. Worth to purchase.

Best app I've come across for logging/monitoring sensor data. The dashboard interface is top tier and very user friendly in terms of customization and setup. For me, this app up right up there with OBDeleven I just wish there was more support for my VW platform like that of OBDeleven which allows for vehicle manipulation via VCDS protocols. That aside, very solid app that doesn't disappoint, i highly recommend it for car enthusiasts who like to know what is going on under the hood at all times.

I've had this junky "micro mechanic" for ever and could never get it to connect to my 2001 civic on my phone but I finally tried it out in my 2000 camry today and... wow. This app tells you absolutely everything your car is doing. 200x better than the micro mechanic app for sure, and at least 10x better than this expensive scanner I have. 10/10 would recommend this app over any other obd2 app I've tried.

I wish they had more sensors for my car model. Other than that vital components are there. Using an e46 btw, I wish there is an update for making the dashboard much more customizable floating without edges.. is there a way to reduce the lag it has by a bit. Like for example, the communication is a second delayed to the ori tachometer. Thanks cheers bud

So far so good, I paid for the pro version but even the free version has more data points than other apps on the marketplace. It is very easy to connect to my wireless obd2 module and give me various data points, even some I didn't realize my car had sensors for.

BTW, my earlier review did not indicate whether or not I was using the Pro version. I started with the demo version and as I used it, realized the value in moving to Pro. IMO, the developer(s) did a fantastic job and I'm sure with the updates it will get even better. I thought it was worthy of the top tier payment for Pro. I want to say it was $7 or a little less. Well worth it. Watching my fuel trim values and O2 sensor voltages really gave me confidence that my vehicle was running well.

I've had to purchase the paid version because I "ran out of free uses". I'm pretty happy about it so far, but recording isn't very reliable and it's the feature I'm desiring most. It doesn't properly save sometimes, the time values are a bit off and sometimes it doesn't even record. I also would wish me an HTML export for the graphs with a bit more control.

The free version was great. I believe that if it is good pay for it so i cant wait to see how good the paid for version is. So far i love this tool. I have only used it one time but it was easy to set up and link to my computer and gave me quite a bit more information than my other code reader did. I'm impressed! Edit: I have now been using this app for more than a year and still find it to be easy to use and it provides way more information than my scan tool that cost a lot more. I have the pro version and never have any problems with it. The only one I have ever had is that it may not pick up the blue tooth connection right away. If that happens I simply restart the program. I am not a professional mechanic but this has saved me a lot of money in diagnosing problems without having to pay a dealer to read the codes.

Great application that I highly recommend. I use it for my 2016 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 4 cylinders diesel and it works extremely well. I paid the for the Pro version to express my appreciation even though the free version is fully-featured. This is the first app that work flawlessly with my sprinter after tried dozen of other apps included handheld device.

Works with the random bt odb2 scanner i got. Shows a lot more then i though possible from the cheap scanner and the software. The ads are minimal the app is still usable with ads on the screen and in low network areas and better than the other 2 apps i tried. I did pray the $4 to get to the pro version.

The more I use the app the more frustration I get. I'm editing my previous review. I can't seem to find how to change unit of measure. It's pretty confused, need to simplify your dashboard, can't understand direction at all. There's Missing PID's for the FORD powerstroke 6.0, don't do me any good when one of the Most important piece of information not provided.

ENABLE BACKGROUND USAGE IN BATTERY SETTINGS. Make sure you enable background usage to allow auto connect or to use other apps while logging. After trying 4 other OBD apps, this one is most reliable. No funky MPG readouts destroying your whole tank log. Seems like having an injector size input helps a lot with fuel calculation. Ecu adapter quality makes a huge difference! I had lots of issues until switching to a high quality one.

My 2014 Odyssey has some issues. I think it's designed to run rougher to make you go to a shop. With this app I can read and clear, also get live readings (not that I know what I'm seeing). It's been great with just the free version, so I paid the respect price in app to show my great appreciation. Thank you Car Scanner ELM OBD2

Closest thing to OEM diagnostic software you can get on android, really useful for engine performance diagnostic, straight forward interface, easy to use for auto DIY'ers or auto professionals. I tried the free version of this app and it was very helpful in decoding my engine diagnostics. It connected to my ELM-capable OBDII effortlessly and quickly. Bought a cheap Bluetooth OBD dongle from Amazon and was struggling to find an app that would connect to my BMW and give any useful information. I tried Torque Pro but it couldn't detect any faults, even though the DPF warning light was on my dashboard. Car Scanner connected easily, provided loads of information, easily found and cleared error codes and helped me clear my DPF light and force a regen. All on a free app! I'm going to pay for the upgrade to the full version to show my appreciation.
