Whose Land is a web-based app that uses GIS technology to assist users in identifying Indigenous Nations, territories, and Indigenous communities across Canada. The app can be used for learning about the territory your home or business is situated on, finding information for a land acknowledgement, and learning about the treaties and agreements signed across Canada.

Educational videos are available to watch that will give you a better understanding of why land acknowledgements are important, and the way Indigenous people view their relationship to land.

The Whose Land app is a collaboration between Canadian Roots Exchange, TakingITGlobal, and Bold Realities.

The app consists of six different maps of Indigenous territories, Treaties, and First Nations, Inuit, and Metis communities. Each community's location will eventually host a land acknowledgement video, and other information that the community would like to include on their page. The app will be used as an educational tool to create dialogue around reconciliation. It will be a starting point for conversation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous citizens across this country about land, territorial recognition and land acknowledgement.

I really wanted to like it but pages weren't logging correctly and it was difficult to navigate. Great concept though and the issues may be my phone as I am coming up on the end of my contract (and we all know they don't build them to last) so I am still giving 5 stars.

Currently working well for me! I haven't run into the issues others have stated yet. It does look like a webpage more than an app. The UX could use some work but it does the trick! Amazing idea and so glad this is out there!

The idea is good but it's a clunky premature attempt at a app. Didn't seem to work hardly at all especailly trying to view different areas on map. 2 stars for the attempt. Should've been more testing before release Imo.

Def a little glitchy, I just closed and reopen if it seems to not load. It does once I do that. The info is great though !

wish there was an easier way to identify the unceded territories in BC. The app does not seem to show them.

I use this app when travelling so that I know whose land I'm on to give acknowledgement and thanks.

great idea. I'd say it can be a little more organized and the user interface can be better though.

it says my entire area is cree and does not show the sault ste marie ojibway, chipewa. algonquin potawatomi, anishinni territories ...just the cree....Ojibwe (also called Chippewa) and Potawatomi and Algonquin, Anishinni and others are on one branch. Cree is on another branch....and cannot get any videos to play ....

This is an awesome idea and I'm excited to use it but I just downloaded it and it won't let me search anything, it's just stuck at the home screen.
