Personalize your Android homescreen by creating your own icon shortcuts for websites. Customize your website shortcuts with your own selected text and image. Furthermore, there are no advertisements and it's free. I made it originally for myself, and decided to share. Giving a fair rating is very well appreciated!
Many applications have made the switch from native applications to a single mobile-friendly website. Although this is a positive development, it means that you can only open them conveniently via bookmarks. This requires two taps in the best case, while a shortcut on your homescreen requires only a single tap! It is especially convenient and time-saving for often visited websites.
From Android Oreo on (due to an API change, on which this app is built upon), the bottom right tiny icon of the app the shortcut belongs to is added automatically by the launcher.

--- Data policy
Installation of a shortcut is done by forwarding the shortcut (label/icon) to the launcher of the device, with an Intent containing the Website (URI/URL) to open and a creation timestamp. The launcher maintains the Intents associated with the shortcuts. The only persistent state kept by the app is local. This state consists of the user settings, which pertain to the workings of the app (for example whether to show preview, auto-detect label/icon). The values of these settings are viewable and editable by opening the in-app settings page. These settings are stored using the normal Android Preferences API on the device locally. Uninstalling the app (i.e. via Settings -> Apps -> Application List -> Website Shortcut -> Uninstall) will remove the app from the device, including all local state (user settings). The Android uninstallation procedure will also notify the launcher, which should remove from it all shortcuts associated with the app. There are no advertisements in this app.

on desktop mac It Works! Does exactly what it says in an easy way even on Android 9. Many shortcut apps don't actually put the shortcut on the home screen, but this one works. It's advantage over the shortcut features on many browsers is that this one will point to the current default browser instead of the one used to create the shortcut if done from within a browser. Nice advantage if you switch browsers. Only desire a way to suppress the watermark added to the icon. I'd pay for that.

firefox Thanks you creator! This took forever to find, but it was worth it. After an update to my phone, I lost all my shortcuts on the home screen and couldn't use the "add to homescreen" function anymore. A lot of people are having this issue, so I will recommend this. create Works Great! I like having shortcuts to frequently used sites on my homepage. Though I was always a little frustrated that they couldn't be edited by changing the name or icon. This app fixed that. I also like that is automatically uses the default web browser to open pages. The only thing that i would change would be to have the option to not have the tiny app icon on each shortcut. Maybe in a paid version?

Excellent free app without ads that lets you create custom shortcuts to websites, including using a gallery photo for the icon and your own text for the description. Works fine on Android Pie. No point in criticizing the developer for the bottom right graphic that appears on your custom icons since this is a "feature" added by Google to Android Pie.

I store all my short cuts grouped by category on the home page all very convenient. I also like to blitz my browser every couple of days on newer vertions of android (pie) it also blitz's all my work with shortcuts. The interface was good and I was glad that the app explained its permissions and data policy clearly. Only problem is that creating a shortcut fails everytime with the message "shortcut installation failed". I understand this to be ultimately due to an Android API change in Oreo to which app developers are scrambling to respond, but for me for now this app is essentially non-functional. (Android version: 8.1.0. Launcher: ADW Launcher 2.0)

I use this instead of a browser's save-to-homepage. The browser's own shortcuts disappear when switching to a different browser, or having to remove & reinstall the browser. Also, if two browsers are installed, the browser's save-to-homepage will only open in it's own browser. However, I did lose all of this app's shortcuts when moving to a new phone. The ability to backup would have helped. I now keep a copy of the URLs.

I love this app. Simple to use. With the Corona virus and everyone using zoom I can make a shortcut for my deaf students they can click it and it goes straight to the meeting or to my zoom. It works!! Needed when Chrome "add to home screen" did not give correct URL. This app was easy to use. I picked a photo from my tablet for the icon. It correctly sized the photo and put it on the home screen with the name I typed in and the URL I pasted.

I had a url that is dynamic, and the website processes the request on the server side and sends the correct page, but with the browser's "save to home screen", it didn't get the dynamic url only the fixed that I'm sent to. This app allows me to use that dynamic url! Happy me

You can create shortuts directly from a browser but they always open in that particular browser. Worse still Google News always opens in its own dreadful browser. This app creates shortcuts that always open in your current default Web browser. Problem solved!

Terrific! It does EXACTLY as it says. I tried making a shortcut of a specific URL via Samsung's browser, but the shortcut of the webpage wasn't what I wanted. Somehow the URL opened an unknown browser (no tabs of other sites, etc.) to the URL's homepage. This has never happened to me before, probably something new again. Trying to find the sub webpage I wanted via THEIR homepage was impossible. So, I copied the URL I wanted, pasted it in this apps create page and voila! You can use any photo out of your gallery as an icon image for your desktop/home screen. I love it!

Latest update has stopped all my old shortcuts from working. They now cause a message "app not installed" when clicking on them. New shortcuts work so I guess I'll have to start again. Brilliant, just what I need when I have about forty of them! Update, just restarted phone and all my shortcuts disappeared. :-(

Well, this used to be a great app, but ever since the update to oreo it doesn't work at all. And now I'm reading about the app-makers deciding to put an icon on top of the bookmark's icons (????). That's a horrible, horrible decision. Looking for an alternative or an update that fixes these mistakes. Come on, guys.

This app used to be amazing. Worked flawlessly and made your phone look tidy. In the latest update they have added a blue icon to every shortcut you create. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of this app in the first place? We want to be able to create our own icons how we like them, not how we like them and a blue badge slapped on top. Such a shame because this wasn't the case prior to this update. Personally I want my icons to open up a webpage but appear like a native app on my phone. Massive backwards step in my opinion. Edit. Developer said this was an android restriction so I feel a little unfair in my initial 2 star review. Bumped back up to 5.

DON'T UPDATE! 2.1 deletes all your shortcuts. When you recreate them, it puts this app's icon on top of the icons for all your shortcuts. It's pretty big, too, and covers a large part of the icon you wished you could use. Why ruin the app like this? Looking for an alternative.

UPDATE: Recreate shortcuts after upgrading Android version if generic Android icons appear. ORIGINAL: Love the ability to create custom Web desktop shortcuts, especially with the ability to specify custom icons. Great implementation, logical and easy to use. Wish I had known about it earlier. Highly recommended.

When you place a shortcut using the browser share button it does not automatically hide the app again when done and you have to press the back button to get back to the browser. Please auto hide after shortcut place done in the next update. Thank you.

I have really enjoyed it, but I do not like the blue icon. I see it is a limitation because of the OS, so maybe a transparent one instead so we do not see it?
