Study Lao

Study Lao contains two sets of lessons. The first set introduces the Lao writing system, beginning with the alphabet. It also shows how to build and read words and sentences, distinguish the different Lao tones, pronounce words and finally, it introduces basic Lao grammar. The second set is a series of 30 conversations designed to build comprehension skills and increase grammatical understanding of the Lao language. Each conversation lesson contains a vocabulary list, with grammar and pronunciation notes where necessary.

Study Lao was developed by Gregory H Green for the Center for Lao Studies (CLS) in partnership with the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Northern Illinois University (NIU CSEAS). Much of the content for the app was adapted with permission from material on the Lao language section of the SEAsite website at NIU CSEAS at www.seasite.niu.edu.
