Automatically backup your SMS, MMS and call history with a separate label in Gmail and Google Calendar. Later you can restore the saved data (except MMS) back to the phone, especially useful when switching to a new device. IMAP access needs to be manually enabled in Gmail, see the website and FAQ for more information. You can of course use your own IMAP server for backups, giving you full control over your data. SMS Backup+ is a free open-source project which has been in active development since the early days of Android, completely ad and tracking-free, supported through voluntary donations. Edit 10/25/2021.... This app is back on all BS smh. This is frustrating! What is going on? This worked fine before now it won't connect with my email. Edit: So whomever originally suggested to download/use a browser other than chrome is genius. I truly thank you because I really missed using this app. No other app that I tried has compared!! 🙌

In hopes of helping others that can't connect, these are the steps I followed. 1 turn on 2fa(not sure this was actually needed) 2. In Google security settings allow less secure apps (search for it in settings) 3. Go to signing in with Google and app passwords 4. Add sms backup as an app. Use that password in imap settings in sms backup 5. In sms backup go to advanced and enter imap info. For password, use the app password generated in step 4. 6. Go to connect and it should connect right away.

This app has always worked well for me. I've been using it on three different phones since 2018. You need to understand and follow the work-arounds. "Think before you speak and read before you think..." (Fran Liebowitz) Even with 2-Step-Verification it works, BUT, from time to time you might have to reset your "app-specific password". Like, e.g. if you change your Google Account Password. Makes sense, huh? You must of course follow the other initial setup requirements listed elsewhere in other recent reviews of this app, like IMAP settings, etc. FIRST. Then you set an "App Password" (less secure) through your Google Account for this app specifically. Search Google Support for "Create and use App Passwords to learn how. Takes 5 minutes to set up and get rolling, then the backups take however long they take depending on your file sizes. Good luck.

I have used this app for years. I learned about the third-party security key requirement from Google, so once I got past that, the only glitch was now & then I had to open it & do a manual backup. Lately, like in the past few days, it's been crashing when I try to do a manual backup. I do t know if the problem is with the app or the battery-saving features on this phone. If anyone else has seen this & figured out the issue I'd love to know.

This application was the best, allowing to backup SMS messages, and call to Gmail and even synchronizing with the Google calendar. Unfortunately Google is now blocking it. Can the developer do anything about it? I'd love to be able to use it again. I still give if five stars for the functionality it has, assuming that this is a Google policy to block such applications and not the developer's fault.

not working at all, says it can not connect to my gmail, which it had perfectly until Aug of this year. What happened? Anyone know how to fix?? **now it just spins when I try to connect to Gmail. Does anybody know how to get this to work again?

For my new Samsung S21 it works awesome. But for my husband's phone the exact same phone it won't work. It'll install but won't connect to any of the Gmail accounts it just keeps spinning. I've tried to install and uninstall and shut off reset everything and it still won't with. Can't give 5 stars if it's not reliable. I'm upset because I told him how amazing it is and then it didn't work. Not happy about that

It won't even connect to my email account anymore to do a back up. I loved the app but now I'm totally pissed. This app is useless now and nobody responds to see how to fix the issue. And I've seen plenty of people having the same issue

Only backs up to cloud locations. Needs a local backup option (so it can be archived for potential future legal reasons). Clearly none of the Devs have been in or understand domestic abuse.

I'm trying to use this app. Have read all of the super helpful instructions shared. I can't even get it to connect to gmail or change the IMAP settings (greyed out) and a thinking wheel just goes endlessly when I try to connect to gmail.
