Secret Readers is backed by Hachette UK, one of the UK’s biggest book publishers. We want to understand more about how our readers read, and what they think of the books we’re about to publish. As a Secret Reader, we’ll make a range of books available to you on a rotating basis throughout the year from different genres. You can browse the available books, and then access them for FREE via our specially designed website or app – so you can read the book on a PC, laptop, tablet or phone. Once we make new books available, you’ll have 7 days to take a look and pick one you like, and then 2 months to read it. The website and app will let us know how you’re getting on with the book, and we’ll also ask you to take a short survey about the book you selected. Secret Readers is a marketing/research project for Hachette publishers. Free books but the app observes everything you do with said books. In which case you would hope the app would be better, sadly it's bad. The main issue is that the books don't want to fill the screen which is always frustrating. The options are basic (can't use volume keys for forward/back) and sometimes the buttons just don't work, so no bookmarks for you! Good premise but needs a lot of work.

I signed up for this and got the app on recommendation from a publisher I like but my attempts to use it failed. I could not find a font size that felt comfortable to read and the navigation was difficult to deal with, sometimes being very unresponsive. This was after having problems downloading the book I had chosen despite a very strong internet connection. Will stick with my Kindle and Kindle Unlimited along with buying new titles from my favourite authors.
