Reviews From google play store

I had to leave a review because this app has gone downhill. It defeats the purpose of a messaging app. You want to message someone in real-time without having to pay texting or data, especially if they live overseas. I have undelivered messages 90% of the time. Support. There's no support unless you're a GITLab developer. They don't respond to emails and their support on Twitter is awful. They're one of the few companies who doesn't allow DMs on there.

Message delivery and delivery status are inconsistent at best of times, both on LAN and WAN networks. Often messages will deliver after the next time the account is logged in. File transfers are also inconsistent, often failing to connect.

Well I think this app is kinda cool(must be) but I have two big problems! First, I can't find my friends on jami and they can't find me and I think maybe you should show us HOW to do it . it's really confusing . Second, I can't turn the dark theme off.I mean even when I turn it off, it doesn't change.

Still needs more work on it, specially for ios, I use this app as an alternative for communication for IRAN INTERNET SHUTDOWN to stay be in touch with others, please fix the network problems and ios bugs.

It works as a messenger but file sending(photo, voice,...) does not work. It doesnt deliver files to the destination at all!

Privacy at first place. Free and opensource! Sometimes android ask me to close the app for huge battery drain.

how do you freaking use it?... had to create an account on TV, then a different one on my phone, there's just no way to sign in, import contacts or add a device... absolutely NO WAY TO USE THIS APP...

Cannot configure SIP without having first created a Jami account. SIP support seems legacy.

Has big potential, it has everything you would expect a chat app to have besides group text chats at this time. From trying it out on a Pixel 2, it didn't significantly impact battery life while still receiving push notifications. The desktop app has a rather large minimum window size however, and sent messages only appear on the device you send from. Received messages work fine though.

Not yet complete, but off to a great start. Perhaps one day I can replace my other chat apps with this. Right now, I hope that the #1 focus of the developer is Group Chat, because I can't even consider using it as an alternative without Group Chat. Group Chat is a great reason to share it with friends, and get even more people using it.

no group chat, no screen sharing, poor user experience and graphic. i try it just because there are not so many linux skype alternatives. hope it will be better in future.

Video calling doesn't work. All you see is a blank screen

i use this primarily for chat. Overall it is a good experience. Looking forward to seeing its growth.

Jami is a very promising concept but it does not support registration of SIP accounts if the SIP server domain and registration domain are different (if you use a custom domain without hosting your own SIP server). I haven't had this problem with other SIP clients. Personally, I wouldn't use or recommend an app with such a major flaw, even if I could register. I would be interested in giving it another try once the app is fully functional. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app due to freezing upon launch. Beware: App design does not allow to simply log into existing Ring account after reinstall even with correct credentials!

Promising app but extremely unreliable. Messages do not send at all sometimes and there's no resend feature. Other times your messages are sent in a large, unorganized cluster. The same will happen of messages you are to receive as well. I look forward to a more stable version of this app.

I love the concept of a decentralized network but this just doesn't work at all. In 90% of the time simple text messages are simply not delivered and are lost. Voice calls are unusable since the app apparently doesn't detect the microphone on the Pixel 3. Pity, it would have been what many of us need.

Promising but unfortunately does not deliver. Every day something new breaks. One day I can't send messages or messages are spuriously lost, another I can't receive, another day calls are muted in the middle, and another day I won't be able to receive any. Things randomly get fixed and broken with every update, apparently the QA is nonexistent.

Great UI/UX. BUT it is constantly crashing and quitting in mid video call. It hangs up and lags. It doesn't even want to successfully make calls half the time. The app looks nice but that's all. It has no functionality outside of a good design.

I think it's a noble idea, but there's a problem with the secrecy statement. There is a central server for intercepting communications that is the TURN server which relays the media traffic between clients, which is enabled by default. This obviously only affects voice and video calls only. But for true peer to peer communication disable TURN and use STUN instead.

I can't send files on both mobile and desktop apps. On mobile the error is "closed by host". On desktop the error is "unjoinable peer". When I click on the error messages, in order to find help, there is no help. Could you please help? Thank you very much.

I would give Jami 5 stars if they would allow you to control the ringer volume settings. Its not a huge issue but pretty annoying that i cant control that (set to mute/vibrate/turn up down volume). otherwise i havent had to many issues and its pretty easy to use.

seems like the app is in pre alpha state - some very basic functionality is there, but it is not ready for day to day usage + it is crashing from time to time.

great idea, but... I hear my peer, but my peer doesn't hear me at all (all permissions needed are ON on my side btw). Why do FOSS apps often look promising, but what is most important about them all the time not working? it hurts.

It crash constantly on OnePlus 5t, great idea, poor implementation on Android

Video call does not work well, audio volume is really low regardless how I set system audio volume, it fails to send text messages

Guys, thanks a lot, but it's impossible to kickout Jami from memory. Some daemon brings it back. Fix this suspicious behaviour pls.

Interesting concept, but app not usable as SIP client for me, as it doesn't understand "host:port" (or allow specifying the SIP port some other way).

Open source, all major platforms supported, free, decentralized, strong privacy - you don't need to create profile. Thank you Savoir faire and Google!

Am not able to make calls without using wifi. Do I need to change any settings

Crashes a lot on android 9

It consumes too much battery, even when not in use!

Not even working!

it's the first time I'm using the app and I'm very excited about it! Please add an optional dark/black theme for oled screen users though!

hard to do video, constantly locking up, erratic to answer calls

We need to have group chats like Briar. We need to see our contact list like bridgefy.

Does this app work on internet blackout?

عالی. با اینترنت ملی هم کار میده. و البته ایمنه. زود تا اینترنت میلی قطع نشده نصبش کنید

Higly recommended

App crashes when adding contact. Everyone is experiencing this, not just me.

needs to work on cellular network

Works 🤓👍

I think the concept of this app is great. Especially since it's a GNU project. So I went and downloaded it on my phone, Linux laptop, and Raspberry Pi. I was greatly disappointed. The video quality was awful via my phone network and via WiFi. There were other issues too.

Great app! There are more possibilities than What's app and works so much better than Skype. Screen Sharing, streaming, conf calling! Still a few bugs out there but the app has improved dramatically in a short time!

Avatars and conversations are not synced between devices

Please could you add ability to quote message when replying and also to retract a message? Thanks. Amazing app devs. Very impressive I must say.

I tried using Ring last year and found it to be lacking - but trying it recently, it has been a pleasure to use. The app is lightweight and loads instantly, no matter what I load into. Switching between instant messages and calls is instant. I held a video call last night for over 3 hours and it held up very well on a fairly unreliable network. Overall the major missing feature is group chat and calling, but for what it does now it works surprisingly well.

Hey Ring Team, thank you.

I hope more iranian install it

This app is important. Keep up the good work

Great but I miss Group chats

It must be a bug, but this app consistently uses extreme amounts of battery when idle. When I examined why it was eating so much battery, it looks as if this app had the camera on for over eight hours straight today, yet I have not used or opened the app in weeks.

The company should actually be named Savoire-pas Faire. Disrupted sound, mutes by surprise, crazy feedback, notifications of current call that are so persistent they longly outlive the call and even the activity itself.

Crash evry time on android tv

Does not work, unable to send any messages, keeps saying to send contact request but never does. Unable to link device with desktop account and device account cannot send messages to the desktop account, but desktop account can send messages to device no problem. Linking account fails silently and returns to manage accounts tab. No way of logging into existing accounts either. This is not usable in this form, please work on it or stop advertising cross-platform compatibility!

The offline push notification support via Google server does work. Tested via 2 of my own device. This is awesome!

Annoying to set up, user names and passwords are a barrier to entry for most. It then spends all of its time with account problems it's unable to connect. Trying to send a chat request is mostly broken and guess work as it doesn't make it clear if you've added someone it not. I do hope that it gets fixed we need an open source alternative to whatsapp free from Facebook, but it needs to be easier to set up and use

this does not work yet - i really wish it would soon.

Doesn't work for me at all.

Not working in India

A good app that can connect from one device to another. Best of all, it's absolutely free. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for SIP account or doesn't even feature to add a SIP account on Android. SIP is suppored on the app for Windows 10. Anyway it doesn't look fully support for SIP voice solution on mobile.

By the momento i tries the app si tu voice call and video call and it goes on excellent

Interesting app, voice calls seem to work fine, but with video calls the video doesn't work, just audio... Tried on a galaxy s7 and moto z both running latest updates (7.1.1)

Blew through data after Oreo update. Not even using the app and it ate 150 MB over two days.

Insecure garbage. Does not do peer to peer, requires signing up for an account on third party server and requires microphone access just to start up. Uninstalled.

Text works well, but calls drop. Keep up the good work.

Great Open Source App!

Great app, even though it still has some rough edges. It currently eats the battery, is not very light on traffic and I can not find an obvious way to change the password for my account. Otherwise please keep up the good work. It's already a great thing.

Nice App, But please add file tranfer and voice chat. Thank you

5 stars for just the effort to build a free decentralized messaging

Thank you devs for the linux support!

it crashes when entering username

I don't care for phone or video calls, just messaging. Please don't force these features.

Looks promising Please add sent message synchronization between linked devices and fix the device linking. I already wasted a couple of usernames because "account migration" was needed but never managed to finish it.

Does not work

Be sure to limit background data for this app in your Android settings after installation *especially* if you're not using the app regularly. Not sure if this is intended behavior or not - I may file a bug report on it as it consumed 16GB of mobile data in a month.

The desktop application app seems to work well tho I haven't fully test it all completely on the Linux version, the Android version seems to be very similar but one issue I ran into was trying to add devices to my account which would crash the Android app.

It did not started on Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Not creating account.

The ring team is working hard to iron out the wrinkles in this app. They are making huge strides on the best decentralized communication available!!

and can't find any info on this error. Great idea to name your program so that it is pain to google info about it. And by great i mean "great".

Finally! p2p voip free and multiplatform! All great on local WiFi. Cheers! .. cept...where's the speakerphone switch? Maybe too hard to filter /mask fullDuplexed audio from mic?

I want a older version. This Beta version crashes. Also want an info how to configure IAX accounts on android app. Only SIP option is available.

Still not working on my OP3. Tested with one account on my Mac and one on OP3, and no calls or texts goes through.

If I wipe my phone before making a backup I lose the account for good. :/ I have the SIM card, I have the username and the password, but I can't restore my account. Keep it in mind before making it your first messenger.

I really love Ring's design philosophy, and it seems to work very well. I have been able to test out its basic functions. However, it uses huge amounts of battery and so I can't recommend it to anyone. I understand that this may be an effect of the p2p design. Maybe the phone charging and connectivity state could be detected and certain p2p functions enabled or disabled accordingly? I really want this to work!

I was initially very frustrated, because the migration of my IDs wasn't working. But just to create a new ID under Android seemed to fix that. And under Linux, a lightning-fast update from the Devs fixed the daemon binary. Now, all I'll need for full stars, is an actual video call, that hasn't happened yet.

i tried 30 minutes to make a test and i am done.

Please fix really needed it . can't make calls I tryed on 2 different phone models . please fix super nice consept but not working .thanks for your time.

Devs you can add cloud storage support (Google Drive etc) to automatically export/import accounts. So that on every first startup applications asks for user like what kind of storage they r using to store accounts. Then list all avail accounts from that location, so tgat user can choose which account to import. And at creation of every account prompt(optional) them to save their account.

Horrible implementation

Not working

I really like the idea of multi platform but would be nice to easily transfer the same account across devices and a trouble shooting forum would be nice

Its not easy to share your ID - you have to keep it printed somewhere as QR code or be with your phone all the time. Second problem is with linux version. It works good only on gnome desktop and maybe unity, but on every other desktop you will have problems because of lack tray support.

Love the app and supporting open source projects but it's consuming to much data in the background (544mb). Uninstalling it... I'll check it out in the future... Hopefully the data consumption issue is resolved.

HUGE battery drain! 41% of ALL my battery usage! I'll re-enable it and change my review when that is fixed.

Does seem to do anything except force you to sign up for an account.
