Real Color Mixer simulates mixing real paints (for example oil or acrylic paints) in different proportions, making it possible to preview the newly created colours without actually mixing the physical paints.

The colours are not mixed additively (which is the process used in RGB colour models). However mixing the colours red, green and blue in the Real Color Mixer does not achieve white or black colours. Depending on which tones are used for mixing, you can, for example, get a dark khaki colour.

Real Color Mixer uses the spectrum of light and a range of reflected and absorbed light of a given colour as mixing information.

Features:
- ability to define up to 12 colours for each palette
- ability to save up to 40 mixed colours for each palette
- possibility to copy the palette
- database of 430 predefine colours
- ability to set the texture and form of the brush
- create (from colour picker, RGB or HTML colour codes) and delete your own colours
- edit colour name
- importing and exporting a palette
- calculator function
- color accuracy search setting
- picking colors from an image
- the ability to find a color mixture for a given color

To add a colour to the 'mixer colour' panel, press and drag the desired colour. To change the mixing ratio, use plus (+) or minus (-) buttons. Pressing on the plus or minus buttons increases or decreases the amount of specific colour by one unit. Pressing the button slightly longer will change the ratio of the colour by 10 units.

Calculator function allows you to calculate the amount of component paints to achieve the given amount of mixture. The volume unit can be defined in the settings (Lit, Fluid ounce, Galon, Pinta, Quarter).

Confusing interface. Apparently no flexibility in the choice of primaries (RYB or CYMK). No slider style mixer. Sampling from a photo does not appear to work.

  2. Jaz Sandhu-avatar

Haven't put it into practice yet, but it looks very promising. I created colors in a different app and, in order to get the percentages, tried to match the hex code by adding "drops" of RGB+white+black through trial and error until I learned of the (now blatantly obvious) search function. I was so intent on finding "# Hex" not "🔍 Search" so I ignored it completely. So 2 suggestions would be to change "search" to "hex" and to change the pipette at the very top to a plus on the pallet line.

Excellent app! It really helps me with my nail art, because I can mix any gel colors that I need but don't own.

Incredibly helpful as an oil painter. It allows me to see what colors create what when put together, before i start mixing on my palette. Another feature you could add in future updates is letting us pick a specific color and recieve data on what colors to mix in order to get that result. Ex: "User chooses green. App shows user that green can be made by combining blue and yellow"

This is a tremendously useful app for painting. I usually use a palette of about 16 colors. I see there have been many requests for larger palettes. Maybe color analysis starts getting too compute intensive over 10 colors. If so, I would gladly pay a premium to flag up to 10 active colors at a time on a larger palette.

A very nice acrylic paint mix emulator. Eliminates a lot of guessing and wasted paint getting the right color mixture. Eg. You'll know you'll never get a bright purple mistakenly mixing a warm red with a cold blue. Great for color theory classes. Doesn't have every color like quinacridone magenta, but has a set of included colors close enough to substitute. Doesn't emulate differences in pigment formulation between let's say the Liquitex Basics Cadmium Yellow Medium vs Liquitex Heavy Body Cad. Y.

Exactly as described. The ads are at the bottom where they won't get in your way; no annoying pop-up ads to close out. I use it make color pallets for various characters of mine so I always know the right colors and shades to use for them.

I LOVE this app. As a painter it helps me find the right shades I need for my work. Only reason I am giving this a 4 is because I could put all the paint I have available into my pallet or at least more then 10. Otherwise it's a great tool.

This is a great app. There's plenty of colors to choose from and the ability to create custom pallets. This is indispensable as a painter who wants to keep the cost of paint down. As an added bonus, the ads are unobtrusive.

The only thing that would make this app perfect is if I could take a photo of something, and it tells me which colors to mix to get that color.
