This app is pretty useful for syncing PDFs between devices, and tracking annotations and citations. I almost didn't install it because the icon, in my opinion, makes it look like some kind of corporate garbage built by an under-motivated contractor. I'd really suggest changing it; the old Papers icon for MacOS was quite good and gave an impression of design quality. My only complaint about the app itself is that it doesn't have location syncing across devices.

Good app for syncing and reading academic papers. It is extremely promising, but this particular app needs work. There is no download pdf option in case you want to use a better pdf reader. Copying text only copies the first word you selected, not the rest. Search feature uses Google scholar, which does not help in quickly defining words. Integration with S pen would be awesome. Features from the browser app would be nice too, such as supplemental access. Could use a cleaner UI.

The android version is super lagging. It's OK since I use desktop version mostly. Warning: I have privacy concern for their desktop version. It scans my hard disk and sends out information every second. You may want to check your computer as well. I submit tickets to them a couple of times and was told it's because my windows security scan the PDF. However, 1. my windows security is inactive, and my antivirus ESET has zero disk or network use. 2. when computer in idle, "readcube or papers" is the only app using CPU, DISK or network that makes me even unable to video chat. (It takes most of my 5 m upload speed/100m download speed) 3. my computer becomes hot and battery drains pretty fast. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the ticket I submit after I complain a couple of times without any proper solution. Some previous versions consume CPU/GPU once they are in the background, which I can still tolerate. This version sends out something all the time taking most of my upload bandwidth regardless in the background or not. Let me make it clear: this raises my privacy concern and network has nothing to do with antivirus. I even get problems to video chat with my mentor and send email with attachments. And “papers” is the only app running all the time (no PDF sync at all) in the background taking either CPU, disk or network every second. My windows defender is inactive all the time (scanning option is off) and my antivirus is ESET which shows no evidence of disk or even network consuming (attached for your reference). Only papers scans my disk! Again my primary point is not how much resources “papers” takes but it alerts me this app compromises the privacy of my computer by scanning my computer and send out information. Secondly, continuously scanning makes my computer runs hot and battery drains fast in idle.

Offline functionality is bad. I downloaded a bunch of papers, after reading and annotating some offline, I opened the app again and it automatically tries to sync and then says there's no papers in my library. I checked storage and the downloaded papers are still in the app. But my Papers library on the app just says there's nothing there. Outside of that, the app is ok.

Impossible to use on Android 10 because to bring up the left side menu you need to drag it from left edge of the screen to the right but that activates the native Android back gesture....Also app looks ugly and ported.

No option to login, it always takes me to the create account page even though already have an account

Android app not as responsive as the web app (mobile). I like their web app and just subscribed to ReadCube Papers membership. I hope to see a better Android app (response time, layout, UI).

It seems that I can't find a button to open pdf files downloaded from your server in another app. I use an e-ink pdf reader and find that the reading experience is not well compatible enough for my reader.

I have used this suite of products for three years now and the company has genuinely pushed to improve the bugs and such because they will personally communicate with you about issues and make sure you are enjoying the service.

great setup and lots of promise, but app crashes any time i do pubmed or papers search. google scholar searches but then the bookmark star is dead when you find a paper
