requires following permissions on your android device.

approximate location (network-based)
Allows the app to get your approximate location. This location is derived by location services using network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine approximately where you are.

view network connections
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.

view Wi-Fi connections
Allows the app to view information about Wi-Fi networking, such as whether Wi-Fi is enabled and name of connected Wi-Fi devices.

full network access
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.

read sync settings
Allows the app to read the sync settings for an account. For example, this can determine whether the People app is synced with an account.

run at startup
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.

control vibration
Allows the app to control the vibrator.

prevent phone from sleeping
Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep.

modify or delete the contents of your SD card
Allows the app to write to the SD card.

receive data from Internet
Allows apps to accept cloud to device messages sent by the app's service. Using this service will incur data usage. Malicious apps could cause excess data usage.

I purchased Pulse when they were not owned by LinkedIn. I thoroughly enjoyed the interface because it was easy to see all the sources in a grid form, all at once versus others that make you flip through multiple pages and only view one article at a time. That all still applies to the current version except for the way you view pages of sources. The old interface used a right slide gesture from the left side of the screen to view your pages where the sources were separated and categorized. I dislike the current way sources must be viewed by pulling down from the top. If this feature was returned to the app my rating for it would increase. If anyone wants to see the old version download the Pulse version 3 apk from the internet.

...we were together daily from morning to night. And now, you've changed and I've found someone new. Someone who allows me to think on my own and express myself in multiple ways. Someone who maintains all the great bits I used to love about you. I will miss our times together; the laughs, the political commentary, the breaking news stories. Goodbye.

Let me cut to the chase. It isn't me, it's you. No, I don't want your new app. No, I don't want more integration to what I do for business. No, I don't want custom articles from your band of know nothing psychobablers. I wanted a news aggregator that I could select my own feeds and skim through to select and read the ones I cared about - a reader that was smart enough to give me the text of the article to read without long delays to download it. In short what I used to have. (#LinkedInSucks)

Since news are shown in cards you could add swipe to dismiss an article you read or dont want to see anymore. Its a general gesture now among android users. Also a lot of articles open in web view which is not so comfortable on the phone. Otherwise its good i guess.

The reason I originally chose pulse over flipboard is that I could have a nice overview of many stories at one at a glance and choose those that caught my eye... Since the LinkedIn acquisition mist changes have been negative. If I could go back to a version a few years old I would be so happy

  7. Joseph Lussier-avatar

I get that social is all the rage and LinkedIn bought this app to make money. That being said, I loved being able to pull news that mattered to me personally. Now I can only see what matters to LinkedIn, my professional network (not necessarily friends), and random strangers. Not everything in my life revolves around work or my professional career.

  8. Johnny Saigon-avatar

Every time I open the app, it gives me an error screen to try again, which I'd have to manually close the app, then open it a second time. Upon that opening, I'd always have to sign in again, as it loses my sign in info. Then, when I'm finally in, all my feeds are out of order and que. So this happens each and every day, what a mess. I've been using this since 2008, but now thinking of going back to News 360 or another news app.

  9. A Google user-avatar

This used to be my goto news app. With the new UI and look however, it is no longer useful or usable. I will have to find a new news aggregator app. I hope you will listen to yours longtime users revert back to former, useful layout. If you do, I'll be back to using it multiples times a day.

I loved this app before the LinkedIn take over. I'll be looking elsewhere though. Also, I just noticed that all the top rated reviews are pre 2015! Take a hint LinkedIn, you've ruined something great! Unfortunately I can't give it a 0 star rating.

  11. A Google user-avatar

I am never going to move to the new version of this app, to receive 'curated' rubbish that LinkedIn want me to read. And now LinkedIn are killing the old version that I have downgraded to on every one of my devices, presumably to spite us. So one highly functional app goes and is replaced by a pile of corporate turd. Way to build brand loyalty, idiots.

  12. Lovert-avatar

Completely ticked off. Got a new phone and apparently have to get a new news app. You freaking ruined an app I used for years. I even told my friends and co workers about it. Now its worthless. I didn't even mind signing up for LinkedIn, its the fact the layout and the customization is completely changed for the worse. I can't even find half the sources. Uninstall.

  13. Matthias Reintsema-avatar

Now it's a dump. Today, it seems, with the information age, some app devs seem to think that they need to reinvent their app completely every other month. You shouldn't build up competently anew, when your app isn't broken in the first place. Now you just have a Flipboard clone with some LinkedIn crap built in. And what's with the "select the people you admire"? I never even heard of those people. They're just some narcissistic CEO's of Fortune 500 companies. Please bring back the old lay-out.

  14. M Murano-avatar

Linkedin completely ruined Pulse. Unfortunately, when companies with monopoly power acquire other companies, they tend to try to run the new company like that. Anyway, this Legacy edition of Pulse still works fine on my Moto X (2nd Edition) and Nexus 7 running Lollipop 5.1 even though I am using an old Pulse account. I suggest you bookmark this webpage, because it is very hard to find if you don't have a Legacy edition of Pulse installed on your Android device. Searches on the Play Store will take you to the completely worthless new version of Linkedin Pulse.

  15. A Google user-avatar

I loved Pulse but I hate LinkedIn. What a disappointment. LinkedIn is a wanky website for wrinkly wankers. Totally irrelevant to what I used Pulse for. Who had this bright idea? What a horrendous miscalculation. Now LinkedIckheads are shutting it completely? Even bigger wankers than I had thought. Corporate cockheads.

  16. James LaBarre-avatar

    James LaBarre

The jerks at Pulse are killing this app. They will force you to use their Linkedin version, requiring you to connect your Pulse and Linkedin accounts. Well, I'm not going to do that, so once the legacy app dies, Pulse can just *stuff* their new version, because I will ***NOT*** be using it. Goodbye, twerps, hope you like having ZERO users.

  17. Clayton Stratton-avatar

I used to go to this app multiple times a day, now it's buggy, crash prone, and hijacked by LinkedIn. What used to be an app I loved and promoted to friends is now utter cross-pollinated garbage. Congrats to LinkedIn for suffocating this app to death. Uninstalled and never looking back. Sign in with LinkedIn? There's NO way I want my employers and colleagues to know anything about my browsing habits. Thanks for ruining a great thing.

This app is terrible now... thanks for making space on my phone. I used to love this app now it sucks balls. It won't even open. All I see is some shadow of someone with a phone in their hand with a "pulse"ating white dot. So so so disappointed 😝

Sadly Pulse is going down the drain day after day, I can no longer keep some of my RSS feeds as they keep disappearing on their own, even the widget keeps losing which feeds I followed, last week for me with this app then I'm moving on to something better, guess what, there is bettrr.

Too bad they are replacing it with a new format that takes away everything that made it unique. The new one is pretty to look at but is not informative and tries to interject LinkedIn info into my personal reading time. Oh well, time to move on...

  23. A Google user-avatar

Since 2010, Pulse was my favorite app. I could go all day without playing Angry Birds or Candy Crush or even sending a text, but I absolutely HAD to use Pulse throughout the day. Obviously no-one reads the comments here or they would know how unhappy and disgusted we all are. I cannot open the legacy version at all. It says it's installed but force closes every time I try to open it. Way to go LinkedIn. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!! Based on other comments I have downloaded Feedly.

  24. Tom Doan-avatar

This was a 5-star app, but after the recent update the app was a few kinks that has made it less enjoyable (e.g., last opened channel not remembered, scrolling issues), so I'm deducting 1 star. UPDATE: Deducting one more star for frequent crashes. It seems this app is getting progressively worse, which is a shame. UPDATE 2: The app seems to have stabilized, so adding back a star.

  25. Juan Caballero-avatar

New update not accepting or allowing original Pulse login. Now accepts LinkedIn only. Guess I should have seen this coming. Sticking to the legacy app until I get Flipboard or anything else setup.

I love this, it replaced Google Rehader for me. I like the ease of browsing, quick preview. All and all best app I have installed yet. ***Edit*** The new version is garbage so today (2016-01-30) I am uninstalling Pulse forever.

  28. Maurice Osika-avatar

    Maurice Osika

Tried the so called new version and it was so terrible I'd to go back to the legacy app. Problem now is that even with the legacy app, I've to sign in every single time I restart the app and that's ridiculous. Why did you screw up this awesome app? What's your intention here? To drive users away I guess because if that's the case it seem to be working.

  29. A Google user-avatar

    A Google user

The new update is awful, messy and focused on RSS feeds based on that other people like. Since LinkedIn purchased Pulse, it was redesigned to be a marketing tool. I used this version of Pulse for years, and I am sad to see it go. I will be using Feedly from now on. I do not recommend the new Pulse.

  30. Omar Bujosa-avatar

Pulse legacy was my trusted news reader for a long time. The travesty that is the new linked in version is an example of what happens when a company gets a hold of something good and destroys it with branding. Now that pulse legacy is being retired, I have moved on to a different app.

  31. Eric Wingrove-avatar

    Eric Wingrove

User since 2010, my go to news source with the grid layout. Now it's going to be useless once they finally retire the Pulse(Legacy) on Dec 31. LinkedIn you can suck it!!!!! You ruined a good app.

  32. Richard Rodriguez-avatar

    Richard Rodriguez

I could read everything new and interesting, but LinkedIn ruined this app trying to do something new. except the new thing has been done to death, and they're losing the only app that was unique and amazing. Yes I tried the new app and it's horrible, it's worse than stepping on a pile of needles and getting AIDs. yes the new app really is THAT bad.

  33. Kevin Salt-avatar

    Kevin Salt

Wow, way to ruin a great thing. This app is unusable now. Linked in thought they were buying 30 million Pulse users, instead they're just making us all hate Linkedin. Uninstalling on all my devices.

  34. A Google user-avatar

    A Google user

Sometimes, I just don't understand why developers update an excellent program to make it mediocre. Pulse is just like Microsoft in this regard. Microsoft degraded the excellent Windows 7 desktop interface to the atrocity that was Windows 8. LinkedIn have done exactly the same by replacing an excellent program with a vastly inferior one. Developers should realize that usability is really more important in the wider scheme of things than beauty.

  35. Mohummad Mia-avatar

    Mohummad Mia

I'm very disappointed with what has happened to this app. Not only has the connection to LinkedIn resulted in me losing all my article sources but also the widget seems to have gone. Pulse was useful as it aggregated a number of different sources and presented it in an easy way to review. The new app is pretty useless to me.

  36. Brian Skinner-avatar

    Brian Skinner

Ever since Linkedin bought out this app, it's awful. I can't follow any of my old news sources or outlets. Only ones they approve of and you have yo use your LinkedIn profile...I DON'T want to do that. Garbage.

  37. M M-avatar

Great example of what not to do in an acquisition - destroy products that worked well and had a solid following because of it, then attaching the acquirer brand to the destroyed product. You used to be able to see 20+ relevant headlines at a glance, but now you can only see one completely irrelevant crap at a time. Well done, LinkedIn, I'm sure the acquisition cost was worth alienating millions of users, losing CPM's, and damaging your brand.

  38. Eric A-avatar

Refuses to stay logged in for more than a day at a time. I refuse to use the new version because it's terrible. Sorry guys, but you ruined an awesome app.

  39. Jason Boulette-avatar

This used to be my favorite app; I'd check it constantly throughout the day. But now it crashes constantly, it doesn't keep me logged in, and its connectivity with LinkedIn is terrible (no, I don't want to combine simple news aggregation with my professional networking).

  40. A Google user-avatar

The new app is awful and the layout is annoying and I can't find any of my sources to read up on. Enjoy your one star.

  41. Kevin Meeks-avatar

    Kevin Meeks

When it was just pulse, I was able to choose my own news sources such as mashables and the next web. Now after a recent update it appears that I'm limited to the content that linkdin wants me to see. Most of the articles are on linkdin anyway. Thanks for ruining my favorite news app. I guess I'll be searching for a new one.

I got the notification saying they are removing the old pulse reader on 31st December. That is the day I will uninstall it. They try to reinvent the wheel when it already worked perfectly and they now created a square wheel. Completely useless.

  44. Marshall Winkler-avatar

    Marshall Winkler

I used to love this app. Ever since LinkedIn bought it, however, there has been a noticeable decline in quality. App crashes and/or fails to load stories regularly. I still love the layout and idea, but there needs to be some serious work put in to get it back to 5 stars.

  45. Kandice Symister-avatar

Was my go to for news, but since LinkedIn... A totally unrelated company bought it, it's just gone down hill. I can't even add rss links anymore, limited to the very small number of sources they have. Sad.

For some reason it only refresh's the storys 1 a day. I have it set for 1 an hour but hey if ya want me to uninstall just say so. Your app is starting to be neglected.

Sad. This was the absolute best news app consolidater I could find. Now it crashes every time I try to share a story. What happened to you Pulse?

  52. Pierre Soubourou-avatar

    Pierre Soubourou

I don't want to use their new interface, so I keep this app installed. Unfortunately if I change device now, I'll loose it... So that'll be the time when I say goodbye to Pulse, since from the comments the new app doesn't allow for the old interface

  53. A Google user-avatar

    A Google user

Once brilliant but the new update and forced integration with LinkedIn renders the reader as complete tosh. If I could give negative stars I would. I was (am?) a paid subscriber to Pulse and yet can no longer use the app for what I paid for.

  54. A Google user-avatar

I loved regular pulse. I can't stand flipping through feeds to find something that I want to actually read. the old grid was great just being able to slide through something.. doubt I'll be using the linked in version after the 31st

The legacy PULSE app was a great, customizable way to aggregate YOUR news. The new LinkedIn Pulse app is nothing like the previous version. Why even use the same PULSE name for the new app?

  64. Barry Cook-avatar

    Barry Cook

This 'legacy' app has been the default news one for me on both Android and iOS - the 'new and improved' version from LinkedIn is a terrible abortion and a shadow of this - and I certainly don't want my news curated thru a 3rd Party. When this app shuts down, I'll not only move to a different news aggregator, but I'll likely shut down my LinkedIn account, too. They buggered an app that didn't need 'improving'.

Was with pulse from the beginning. Simple. Clean. Useful. LinkedIn got a hold of it and now it's just a bloated LinkedIn advert. was a useful app to read and aggregate content and turned it into... I don't even know what this is. uninstalling.

Get it, things changed but I have uninstalled this app due to the new update. Wish you had kept the old style for those of us who actively enjoyed using it.

Someone, please clone the tile interface that Linked in is destroying. You could make bank and have an instant group of supporters.

It's too bad. This was my favorite app and it was the most used. There's no other news app like it out there. Good job LinkedIn!!!

Luckily I still have the apk files from before LinkedIn got their hands on this and completely ruined the app.

I want my old pulse back. Anyone suggest a good alternative or old pulse clone I can use?

Just because it's ending is no reason for one star. Give this app 5 stars to send them a message. With 10 million downloads, they're really messing up a good thing for a lot of people. I recommend giving their new app one star because I can't even use my same login. That means my extensive collection of news feeds will be lost! I am very upset about this! I don't know of anything comparable as a replacement and I don't look forward to building my collection of feeds again. Email the developer what you think

Was a good looking, great working great, & great price app. Now with the last 3 updates is gone down hill. I guess I'll give Google currents a try.

WAS a great news reader with varied content to choose from. Now LinkedIn is discontinuing it on 12/31/15 and switching to a "daily news, powered by your professional world". I'll be uninstalling as I have no interest in keeping up with "professional world news".

This is no longer Legacy Pulse. That has been totally discontinued. A similar new app, with a grid, is called FeedMesh. LinkedIn bought Pulse, barely supported this legacy version, and finally killed it in December 2015. RIP

I will be blocking any update to 5.0 since they are getting rid of the grid and going Facebook on us. Revenue trumps customers again.

After over 4 years you lost me as your devoted news reader today. All my news channels - gone?! What a stupid change!

Love this app but since got all getting rid of it and won't keep this app up to date, I will get rid of this app on Dec. 31! I don't care for Linkedin

This was the only place I would go for years for news and tech updates. Thanks for taking it away LinkedIn. Morons.

I practically gushed over it 3 years ago, now I'm delighted to delete it. Switching to Feedly, which is fine, but not as polished.

When I want to read news, I want to choose the news I read rather than have some bot suggest news based on social media or Web activity. This legacy Pulse app does just that - it gives me one place to see all my favorite news outlets and then decide what interests me on a given day. The "new" Pulse takes away my choice in what to read, and it sucks. Keep this app! Don't change it!

Too bad LinkedIn want to force people to create accounts on their site. Not going to happen so, bye Pulse News.

Latest update broke the app, no longer fetches news.

I am a long time user of the pulse app, and I would say that I was confused after factory setting my phone and reinstalled pulse to find that it had a completely different layout to the one that I know and love. Luckily I found where you can turn off Pulse Beta in the settings, but worry now that all people that download it for the first time won’t know the difference and will tarnish what people think about the app.

Now you have to have it synced with your Linkedin act. It's not the same app anymore. Loved the old version. Hate the new one.

I've tried flipboard and feedly. Not the same. Google play news has only a few of the things I read. If anyone reinvents the original pulse, we will all subscribe.

That when you go to an article and then return to the main page you have to swipe forward all the way to where you found the article. It makes no sense.

Since Linkedin got this app it all went downhill. Mobile app and desktop don't sync. I don't even use this app anymore. So sad.

Gross. I can't believe how badly the wrecked Pulse. Not worth it any more.
