A really useful tool for learning Japanese. Just the basic things it offers are invaluable: With its help I was able to learn hiragana, katakana and basic numbers in just over a couple of weeks. I've barely scratched the surface of the other things it offers. A suggestion: it'd be useful to have the same kind of study and practice for other counter word types, like days of the month and such.

  2. Evan Herbert-avatar

Great app for studying/revising/testing your kanji, kana and vocab. Also has a grammar section to help you learn the ins and outs of actually constructing sentences as well. Note, the app won't "teach" you Japanese, so if you're a complete beginner looking for exercises/lessons this isn't for you. The only thing I'd like to see added would be to have the pitch accent number/type accompanying the words/vocab so we can learn the correct intonation when learning new vocab.

  3. Jason-avatar

The perfect app to learn Hiragana/Katakana and Kanji and how to write them, although the writing thing with the symbols is not perfect yet but its far from enough to teach each symbol. With the app I learned how to write every Hiragana symbol in a bit more than a month, to train reading them faster I used Hiragana only texts from the internet. Now I'm learning Katakana and its very fun.

This is an awesome app! I was taking the quiz & actually got 48 out of 50 right. I haven't reviewed the Hiragana in about a year & the way it tests you rapidly helps with troublesome ones. It also has sections for every level of the Japanese you are looking to learn. The settings are really thorough on your learning preferences. It even has a section on writing all of the characters. 1st app I have used that worked well even on a Samsung Galaxy cellphone. recommend it for all parties. 🤗

  5. Rachel Wellbrock-avatar

    Rachel Wellbrock

Best app for learning Japanese, especially writing. I've tried other apps and I keep coming back to this one. Easy for complete beginners to learn the basics, and there is so much more when you're ready to advance to kanji, grammar, etc.

  6. hugh choi-avatar

Wow what can i say? I've been using this for about a year, and because of obenkyo I learned the meanings of the first 50 kanji (1st grade level) in a couple of weeks. I'm starting to learn the next level kanji and going back for the on-yomi and kun-yomi for the first 50. If you're working on increasing your Japanese language proficiency this is a great app. The Tae Kim grammar stuff is a great big cherry on top.

  7. Jose Ignacio Burgos Gil-avatar

    Jose Ignacio Burgos Gil

Very useful app to help learning japanese. Kanas, kanji. vocabulary and grammar. all in one app. The only point is that character recognition is not reliable. But deserves 5 stars anyway

  8. Kina Star-avatar

I find it that the area to draw characters is too small, plus we need free mode with auto correct for strokes

  9. Katie Patterson-avatar

    Katie Patterson

I thought this was supposed to teach Japanese, but there is no way you could really learn from this app unless you know which connects to what. Sound would have made it better.

  10. Ueki Arawari-avatar

best. For intermediate up, you can always review kanji which you forget easily using this apps. Thanks developer :) Moreover, no ads.. Sugoi

  11. Esteban Manríquez-avatar

    Esteban Manríquez

The app has everything one can really need to learn Japanese, one of (if not) the best apps to learn.

  12. Sea Star-avatar

Katakana to romaji typing test seems to be having issues, as others have said in their reviews. You can't type "JI" for ジ.

  13. TR_Kaido-avatar

Loved it. It would be better if the tests have more choices in terms of letters.

  14. Amatul Sharin-avatar

Super duper useful app! It helps me to learn japanese. Thank you for made this amazing app!

  15. Jacob Carrizales-avatar

    Jacob Carrizales

I've been learning Japanese on my own and this app has been extremely helpful at giving just enough information at a time to not be overwhelming; especially in regards to kanji, vocabulary, and grammar. I've been learning for a few weeks and have just gotten into learning sentence structure and actual words and this helps alot. Thank you.

  16. A Google user-avatar

Most flexible, useful app I've tried for studying Japanese, and I've tried a lot. Katakana/Hiragana/Kanji quizzes are highly customizable so you can work on whatever set is challenging you at the time. You can group by grade level, JLPT level, Remembering the Kanji chapters, or your own custom lists. Includes data from several dictionaries and Tae Kim's full grammar. Hope this app stays updated because I use it every day.

  17. Cody Wentz-avatar

So far my favorite app for studying japanese. It shines mostly for kana and kanji. There's too much vocab grouped together to really use it for that, but it's an option that's there if you need it. It also comes with a lot of information to use to study any part you're having trouble with. If I could I'd like to organize vocab based on the Genki books. I could import a new list for each chapter, but I'd have to modify an export myself and know all the things in each chapter.

  18. Terry Blankers-avatar

really like this app. I've noticed 1 bug though, the hiragana for RI is drawn one way for the flashcard tests and another way for the handwriting test. So what i practice with the flashcards is completely different than what I have to write. I also have a feature request. It would be so helpful if you could add the same testing for numbers as you have for the hiragana and the katakana. Thanks and keep up the good work!

  19. Aayush Garhwal-avatar

this is the best app to learn japanese whether you are learning it for a hobby or for taking jlpt. It contains several features for kanji, hiragana and katakana alphabets which range from a right stroke practice to proper testing of those alphabets that you learn. It has a large set of questions for testing also.

  20. Stanley-avatar

This app is great! It enabled me to permanently lean hirigana/katakana in a few days whereas weeks with books had taught me very little. One minor issue that's really irritating is that after I click on a word or Kanji to get more info, when i go back the the list, it has returned to the top. I feel as though half my time on this app is spent scrolling back to where I should be.

  21. Eruma Tanaka-avatar

Best app for learning Japanese and how to write katakana, hiragana and kanji.

  22. A Google user-avatar

LOVED brilliant app but need for improvements... can't find泱 in search section and could be better if there would be some sample sentences and if search function will become better.... if I search in hiragana then it shows no match or if I search 白い it shows no match.... and finally i searched 白 only then it showed me results... it also don't have capability of searching 月利 ok It's hard but leaving compounds... rest can be done, right!!!!!

  23. Tom Russell-avatar

Best all-in-one japanese character revision/learning app. Can start from no knowledge of Japanese characters and work up to memorising katakana, hiragana and then learn Kanji characters. Even better, there are numbers, basic grammar snd examples of how each Kanji would be used in context. An absolutely amazing app. There are tests to cement your memory. Just keep doing them and you'll have memorised it in no time!

  24. Adam Garon-avatar

An EXCELLENT app for supplementing the learning of Japanese, excellent flashcard resource for Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji whilst also providing grammatical and particle revision. It may be tricky to use as a sole resource, but, in conjunction with a course, is fantastic to give that extra pisg and clarification that you'd need.

  25. Abner Eduardo-avatar

I LOVE this app, I really enjoy the kanji practice mode and Tae Kim's grammar lessons But I have a bug to report. For some reason the kanji practice sometimes bugs out and it turns black, the 'canvas' disappears. Closing, restarting the phone, doesn't fix it. The only 'fix' is reinstalling the app.

  26. Jen Scrivener-avatar

I only just downloaded but there is a problem with the romanji keyboard. I was testing Katana and there was no option to enter just N or Ji or Shi. I think it would be simpler and better if you just used the phone keyboard rather than make your own clunky and buggy keyboard that frustrates new users. I hope the devs see this and fix the problem. I guess they are focusing on Kanji but the kana is important too.

  27. Erika Manalo-avatar

Comprehensive lessons and examinations. The complexities of the language were explained in a way that the readers can understand.

  28. Dilek I-avatar

Especially, I liked the grammar notes. It may be in experimental mode now, but the style of the notes are like talking to me directly. Like a friend telling you not to worry about unnecessary things. I loved the notes. Arigatougozaimasu.

  29. Charles Martin-avatar

Personally one of the BEST apps for studying and learning Japanese in my opinion! There are very few places to find definitions and stroke order of all the JLPT grades of kanji in place. Add in numbers plus drills!?? a kanji search across all grades?? Amazing!

  30. Jakub eM-avatar

Great app! I've got most hiragana done, now slowly doing katakana and will move to kanji. Simple setup no ads. My only issue is that the drawing space on exams has shrunk recently and I can't find a setting to full screen any more.

  31. Chin CH-avatar

I downloaded this app and only Vocab is great for me since Kanji Study MCQ system don't have the JLPT vocab limit. The UI needs an overhaul because the MCQ sections don't fit the screen. If font size can be manually reduced, then maybe otherwise.

  32. I am Human-avatar

nice app. my only issue is on the vocab page or list, when you open a certain word and go back to the previous page, screen goes back to the top of the list. rated 4/5 because of it.

  33. Toast0verDose-avatar

I think its amazing. It has helped me go from beginner grammar and only a few words to advanced grammer and lots of words at my disposal. Personally i would rate 6stars out of 5 if i could. Who ever made this did a outstanding job.

  34. DreamyGirl Meow-avatar

    DreamyGirl Meow

No paying, you can choose if you want adds or not, black and white theme, cool quizes, everything from writing system and vocabulary to grammar, nice explaining, also not complicated, easy to use, ... perfection

  35. A Google user-avatar

out of all the japanese study apps I have downloaded and then undownloaded; from the popular duolingo and memorize, to kanji tree or kanji study, none of them compare to the simplicity and incredible usefulness of this app. I have been using this app for over 7 years now and I have yet to find any other one that compares. I love that it gives you all the information that you need right under the letters. If you want to learn hiragana, katakana, and kanji this is the best app for it.

  36. Franco Butera-avatar

This App is almost perfect, but you should definitely add a ''drawing'' option to the vocabulary part of the app, it would be super useful and complement very well with learning how to write singular kanji.

  37. Google User-avatar

The whole reason I got this app was to test my ability to write Japanese script based on the romaji. It marks me wrong half the time that I'm right. Seems random

  38. I Like Music-avatar

Easy to use, has both hiragana and katakana to learn, as well as hundreds of kanji. The quiz options are a good feature.

  39. hòa trương-avatar

A nice app, it has almost every content I need to help my Japanese study. I like the experimental features. Would love to see a prettier interface, though.

  40. Sami Ezzine-avatar

The app is very user friendly and useful except the speed of the Kanji drawing is too fast. Consider implementing a feature to adjust the kanji drawing speed demonstration.

  41. Carla Jerezon-avatar

There's an issue in the katakana to romaji keyboard test. There's no 'N' syllable for ン. I tried inputing only 'N_' but it counted as 'No'. I'll give this a higher rating once you guys fix this 👍

  42. Mishal Subba-avatar

Incredible app!!! Teaches you every thing. I like that how this app also teaches you the grammar section of Japanese.

  43. Asuri 02-avatar

this application's very good easy to use and learning Japanese And there's a no ads(this once very cool) most important this application have a learning, testing your self and grammar anyway I love it so much <3<3<3

The best app (or possibly internet resource) for learning and testing your kana. It can be difficult testing yourself on correct writing skills so their beta writing test (which works very well) is a game changer.

  70. Justin Hara-avatar

ようこそ皆さん、これはアップとても大好きですよ。じゃあ皆んな、日本語の勉強がんばって! This is the best I can do so far and not sure of the grammar yet haha but I just wanna say that this app definitely is the best compared to the others that I have tried before. My progress from learning doubled after just a month while before I use Memrise and WaniKani and only got me to ひらがな and カタカナ in a very slow pace. Studying 漢字 in WaniKani is like a turtle and depends too much on English explanation which is a distraction. All-in-1 and onpoint!

  71. Ace HS-avatar

A great app for learning Japanese. I learnt quiet a lot from this app. Everyone who's interested in Japanese should try this app.

Meeeh... good but incomplete and not that well programmed. Even the romaji of the name of the app is wrong (should be Obenkyou).
