Joplin is a secure, open source note taking and to-do application, which can handle a large number of notes organised into notebooks. The notes are searchable, can be copied, tagged and modified. The Android application supports markdown rendering.

The note can be securely synchronised using Joplin Cloud so that your notes are available on all your devices. It also lets you publish notes, and collaborate on notebooks with your friends, family or colleagues. Synchronisation is secured using end-to-end encryption (E2EE).

Besides Joplin Cloud, the notes can be synchronised with your other services, such as Dropbox, OneDrive, Nextcloud, S3 or WebDAV. Joplin is also available for Windows, macOS and Linux and all can synchronise with each others so your notes can be available on your mobile phone, computer, tablet, etc. Please see the official website for the list of available applications: https://joplinapp.org/

The desktop applications can be used to import notes from Evenote via .enex files, including the formatted content (which is converted to markdown), resources (images, attachments, etc.) and complete metadata (geolocation, updated time, created time, etc.). These imported notes can then be synchronised with the Android app.

Finaly, a secure, robust, private server capable! Ive tried several similar apps but i hated having to concede privacy for convenience. Joplin offers both convenience and privacy. I can encrypt my notes while storing them on a private NextCloud server, so its doubly secured. It does have a few issues but nothing major, the most annoying being tables will add a header row despite me explicitly removing it over and over.

Works well for taking and organizing my notes across multiple devices and operating systems.

I see this service going places so I'll keep it and see how it develops. The sync works great (I have it using onedrive), search is responsive and quick and it's open source with increasing adoption which is good to see. I wish it switched between dark and light mode automatically and I look forward to a better wisywig editor.

It’s decent. Little rough around the edges, had some scares with notes possibly being deleted and not syncing right through dropbox. Seems like it works fine now though. Just keep very frequent backups, seriously.

Open source, great app, easy to setup multi device sync with a diy s3 bucket, or you can just pay them for it. Either way it works great Sharing to the app works great, also tap and hold menu. Good stuff.

Excellent. Even still has some problems. But it's free and keep fix.

The best note-taking app, hands down. Sync across all devices, including terminal access.

Great substitute for Evernote. I love I can sync all my devices to my nextcloud.

Been using Joplin on Mac, Android phone, and Chromebook for about 2 years now and I don't miss Evernote at all. Yes, you have to setup your own sync (though a hosted server is coming very soon) and the mobile editor is not great (though a new editor is in beta now), but I've not had any issues with the app or syncing between devices. Has all the stuff you want from a note app without all the extra garbage, endless requests to pay for upgrades, etc. Highly recommended, one of my most used apps.

I like the idea of an open source Evernote alternative, but the current state on mobile is not practical. You cannot quickly write a note in markdown on a phone, Evernote is much faster with its wysiwyg visual editor. I primarily use org mode for notes on my desktop, so I mostly need something like Evernote only for mobile. Will try again in a year or so to see if the mobile app is fleshed out - this has the potential to be a Evernote replacement, but still some way to go.
