This app is amazing! There is no other words. I never ever thought I would be able to learn hiraganas in less than a week. Uuh... I learned them in less than 24 hours with this app. I'm not kidding you. One day later I could read all 46 hiraganas. Katakana took me a bit more time because the mnemotechnic is less good, but in a week you can read all hiraganas and katakana if you take the time to complete each series in 2 or 3 days.

  2. guest-avatar

Oh, so helpful! This app helps close some learning gaps from doing Duolingo alone. Once you are super familiar with the hiragana and the katakana, learning new words is all the easier! Thanks so much!!

  3. guest-avatar

The stroke pattern guide is helpful, even if innacurate sometimes. Where this app struggles is the mnemonic devices. Instead of teaching each character individually, it attempts to break hiragana into "pseudo-radicals" similar to WaniKani. However, this style results in long, difficult to remember "stories" for each character with only loose connections between the "radicals" and the character pronounciation. For a company with heavy ties to Japanese language schools, this is a very odd choice.

Funn and easy, helps a lot with stone order. I also found myself able to remember their ridiculous stories to help stick characters in your head.

  5. guest-avatar

Uses a great memorizing technique that helped me learn both hiragana and katakana in a matter of hours! It requires you to learn the stroke order as well, which not every app can say for itself. And when I ran into some trouble after resetting, the app developer was quick to help me resolve the problem.

  6. guest-avatar

This app is very helpful with memory learning techniques and orders that let you effectively learn proper strokes and sounds. I love this app and I have been using it to learn both hiragana and the katakana then along side it using a basic Japanese learning book fpr further learning of words very worth the 5 or so dollars for continuing the course after the free sections.

  7. guest-avatar

Great app, will definitely recommend. However, I'm very disappointed there aren't tests for the bonus lessons. I'm always forgetting those and think I would remember them better if I could practice them.

  8. guest-avatar

I love this app. However, I got a new phone and because of that I have to repay for the app. That's not that big of a deal (it doesn't cost that much) I'm just sad that I have to start all over again. It's good practice though.

  9. guest-avatar

this has helped me to greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to learn all hiragana and katakana characters compared to my peers.

Of course you have to pay for the rest of it! The app couldn't even figure out i was drawing the characters correctly on the incorrect part of the screen. Do yourself a favor and study on pen and paper.

  37. guest-avatar

The app is good. you sound it out as you trace the word. Only problem I dont like is that of the sound when it sounds the kana out for you most of it is the wrong sound or it just sounds really terrible. I have japanese friend here look at what im studying she says the voice too much of a robot she cant even understand it all it confuses her so she think i shouldnt listen to this and find another app lol. Cant argue with her when she speak japanese all her life so sorry guys she wins on this review.

The app does a great job at teaching you how to draw hiragana and katakana. I love that each kana has a story which helps you memorize them a lot. It's easy to draw and it detects your kanas quite well, you don't need to write them 100% perfectly in order for it to be detected.

  39. guest-avatar

An excellent app to start me on my way to learning Japanese. The stories and breakdowns really helped the characters stick. And I loved the kawaii fish next buttons!
