Description
With the aim to reach out to the Ayurveda student community and bridge the gap between the academia and the industry, Himalaya started its Ayurveda Medical College (AMC) Connect campaign. Now, in its fifteenth year, the AMC Connect reaches out to over 200 Ayurveda colleges across India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The programs under the AMC Connect initiative emphasize the need to build scientific rigor into ayurvedic practice to contemporize it and make it relevant in modern society.
Some of the activities conducted under Himalaya’s AMC Connect include:
• Jivaka and Ayurvisharada awards: Awards instituted to recognize and reward academic excellence in over 140 Ayurveda colleges across India. The awards are granted to the first and second rank holders of the Final BAMS exams in each of these colleges every year.
• Samsmriti Series: Workshops and seminars with guest lectures by eminent Physicians and Surgeons. Lectures focus on the importance of contemporary scientific validation of Ayurvedic practice.
• Rural Medical Camps: Conducted in association with National Service Scheme Units of Ayurvedic Colleges, which includes general health checks and specialized camps for diabetes detection and bone mineral density, amongst others
• Contests:
o 'Ayurwhiz', a biennial National Level Quiz competition for Ayurveda college UG students
o ‘Manthana’ - Presentation contest for PG Scholars
o Sports and cultural activities to lighten up the spirits of students amidst their hectic study schedules
o PGET – guidance and mock tests for the students interested in takinig competitive exams for gaining admission to PG Institutes
• Public social awareness drive: Blood donation, health awareness events and biodiversity conservation awareness programs at colleges
