The user interface is ANYTHING but intuitive. The "Help" is basically useless. If you're willing to spent LOTS of time figuring how it works, it's pretty useful. I greatly prefer the Windows version of VeraCrypt - its far more intuitive - but this actually gets the same job done, even if it's a bit more cumbersome. A two-page ddescription of how to add files to an existing container would be a MAJOR improvement. It seems to present only a subset of available apps to open container files .

  2. Dohraymee Fasolati-avatar

    Dohraymee Fasolati

ratur I've used it for years. A little complicated to use (navigating back & forth), but does a great job. It creates encrypted containers where you can place anything (files and folders) that you can rename from default to any name you like. If you are familiar with truecrypt or veracrypt on a PC, it works like them and also works directly with containers from them. Developer is very responsive. 👍👍

anleitung (PS1: I will pay for the pro version only if EDS pro improves Video/Photo browsing experience like the android Gallery app. Mouting is not an option because nowadays root permission is not very common in phones.) (PS2: There is no preview for video files. It only supports preview photos. Since I can not use Gallery app to open videos/photos in EDS container, I hope EDS company really consider adding video preview feature and better gallery support. Thank you very much) ---- I changed 1 star to 5 stars. The reason why I gave 1 star is because it can not open/mount LUKs encrypted USB Drive (Partition). But later I figure out how to use LUKs container image file, that actually works, althought it only supports luks1 (does not support luks2). This is the only program I can find which supports LUKs encryption and works well so I changed the review to 5 stars.

  4. Petr Machek-avatar

    Petr Machek

apk I bought full version, but I couldn't mount my drive. Probably because I don't have root access, but they don't write it on lite vs full comparison page.

alternative Awesome app. Work flawlessly. Open source so no trust issue.

  6. Tom G-avatar

    Tom G

veracrypt As far as i can tell, contrary to all of the negative reviews, this app does exactly what it states it will do. As others have mentioned the interface is somewhat clunky and non-intuitive, it probably helps that I have a strong Unix/Linux background in working with encryption systems. The only thing that I see that is really a flaw is that there is no cut/paste (recursive move) facility, there is only copy/paste functionality, which severely limits usability.

  7. Jon Jon-avatar

    Jon Jon

sd card I really wanted to like this app but the interface makes it unusable. Created an encrypted volume on an SD card but, having navigated to a normal folder on the SD card and then moved a subfolder to the encrypted volume, I now get those two paths shown in the list of file volumes with no way to traverse past them back up the tree! Maybe there's a hidden command, but the screens are pretty sparse and I've spent a long time looking. Disappointed.

Absolutely wonderful! Just looked at help, watched a few videos and I'm up and running. Made a container, then took some time working how to put anything in it, but got there in the end. Doesn't seem to read from my external SD card. Nor do I understand the bit about ExFat containers, but it doesn't matter. So far as I'm concerned this tiny app works well. Top marks to the developers. Sorry I didn't give it 5 star first time round.

  9. Robin Horan-avatar

    Robin Horan

The app works quite well with my small (100 MB) Veracrypt file but there is no documentation, and the file manager incorporated into the app is the worst on Android that I have ever used. My usual file manager is ES file explorer and it would be much better if it were possible to use external file managers of choice. Otherwise, this app does the job.

  10. Curtis F-avatar

    Curtis F

pretty sure i used to use this app regularly but now i can't even figure out how to go up when browsing through files which is a big problem because if you choose the same directory ie. device storage it takes you to the folder you were in last instead of the folders that are on the directory you selected. i hope I'm making sense here but this app just really sucks now.

  11. Jas R-avatar

    Jas R

works fabulously Thank you. only one thing which will not work is access to SD card which is absent. it it uses its own explorer instead of a system menu where we can choose which explorer we want to use and identify the micro SD location. . strongly suggest to buy the paid version

  12. A Google user-avatar

    A Google user

Utterly useless. Documentation nonexistent, will not access external USB chip, will not open containers to store or retrieve files. No reason for an app to live on my device that does exactly nothing but take up space. I only wish I could have given it zero stars and still got to make a review of this horrendous and useless product.

  13. David Gates-avatar

    David Gates

Transferred Veracrypt container to external SD from computer, won't read external SD. Transferred to internal storage and multiple files were missing. Transferred back to computer and the missing files were still in the container EDS just wouldn't display them... some of which were simple .JPG format.

  14. Jacob Jingleheimer-avatar

    Jacob Jingleheimer

Creates volumes and mounts them, but doesn't say where in the file system they are mounted. No apparent way to add files, other than in app you can create an empty text file. Frequently trying to read clipboard for some reason, even though I am not attempting to paste anything.

  15. Duncan-avatar

Veracrypt-compatible. This is great. Navigation at first was difficult. When in the vault, I just used my Android back navigation button to get to my phone filesystem. Pressing and holding on files allows you to copy or move them around.

  16. Mareck Blackstein-avatar

    Mareck Blackstein

does not support containers with more than one encryption e.g. aes-twofish. And the paid version which includes that functionality is not open source AND requires internet permissions unlike the lite version. I wouldnt mind paying for the light version if it could handle multi encryption containers, but no way im installing the full version.

  17. David J. Kirchner-avatar

    David J. Kirchner

I gave one star because I couldn't use this app, but then I gave a second chance to it. Before giving bad feedback check the developers site and read the user manual, because it works well, just not very obvious how to do things in it!

  18. Christian Kohrn-avatar

    Christian Kohrn

This is a nice tool, especially for a free one. No problems so far. If I don't run into any issues within the next days, I'll try the non-lite version. Being able to sync a container to dropbox would be really helpful for me.

  19. M L-avatar

    M L

works great but crashes after 20-30mins when doing lots of writes or changes to a 50gb+ store. also doesn't seem to have NTFS access which would be ideal for external drives (usb) otherwise I have to format external USB as ExFat or Fat32 and ExFat easily corrupts with windows 10.

As usual the most difficult part of programming, is creating a decent user interface. This is probably the worst ui i have ever seen ! Com on this is just a simple program, you must be able to do better than this. Just look at the examples (file explorers) around you.

  26. Marc Grondin-avatar

works great so far - just using as a private vault (pretty much default settings) in case phone gets lost or stolen. will buy it but continue to use lite ver as i don't like internet permission. how can i tell the space left in a container? wish it has an indicator. also, toggling between container and local files is a bit tedious - better to have them listed without the up/down arrows or have two-pane view maybe. please keep up the good work Devs.

I tested it and it does not work on my Galaxy Tab A (Android Version 6.0.1) unless you make containers with simple passwords. Good program. Could be easier to use, and have a better UI. Can read Truecrypt volumes. Doesn't seem to read Veracrypt ones. But dev needs to do more homework because wiping files on smart cards is meaningless. The data is redirected to different sectors just before hitting the drive. This error means I have questions about how secure this program is.

  105. AR AK-avatar

    AR AK

In terms of security this app delivers, it also has a nice interface. One of the things I dislike though is the internal image viewer which doesn't open pictures in full screen and you have to keep zooming in and out with your fingers, because of this I am forced to open images in the gallery which has the problem of not being able to easily switch between pictures as you will have to keep going back to eds from the gallery. And this app unfortunately crashes frequently when trying to reopen a container.

Works very reliably with containers built by app (have not tried to use with Truecrypt container) I agree with others regarding the file manager - It's not intuitive, but it works. I noticed that if doc inside open container is in use by external app, and phone restarts, file remains on phone unencrypted. If encryption is as solid as advertised, this is a great app.

  108. A Google user-avatar

    A Google user

This is going straight to the top as the best encryption app for Android phones, especially unrooted ones! Five stars even though there are much more features that can be added, like better file browsing and management. For those who are paranoid, this is the only encryption app that doesn't have access to internet or your personal data. If you are uncomfortable with this one, there are other apps that have connection to internet and access to your private data for you to choose.

  109. Shane S-avatar

    Shane S

This is a great app for people using VeraCrypt or TrueCrypt and the new user interface is nice. My one recommendation would be to have the full screen menu bar, when looking at images, be transparent like it was in version 1.x or have an option for that under settings. The current 2.x menu bar blocks part of the image until it auto-hides but feels far more intrusive then the old menu bar.

  110. Minh NN-avatar

Might be promising, but the button Select is .. useless. File explorer and inserting to the encrypted volume is a nightmare: only one file by file, not a folder, (Select button? why for?) then each time has to go up to root folder, back back back then paste to that volume, create a new folder for subfolder, then go to insert one file per one... haizz, I give up. It's better to compress with a compress file with password like RAR or ES Explorer and then explore files then... uninstalled, could not go on to test further.

Getting "context initialization failed" error on Samsung Galaxy S5 running 4.4.2. This is after entering the correct password for a container. Works fine on older Android OS. This bug is on both the Lite and paid versions.

It was working fine earlier on my rooted Galaxy A7. But now I am getting error "Looks like file system is not FAT". Tried the full version and both on SD and main memory, but not working. Pls help. But earlier working with the same container!!

It works as stated. Seems a bit too slow and I am not able to open the large files inside the container 50meg or even 20meg without copying them out of the container, which for me defeats the purpose of a mounted container. I think the app has potential. I will try it later on down the road to see if it improves. Thanks for your work dev.

If you're looking for crypto apps, this one works. A little clunky, but part of the pervasive encryption plan.

I had problems with other encryption apps and I gave this a try and it's pretty good, the customization helps and it's easy to create/mount volumes. I like that I can open volumes created in other devices (something you can't do with other apps). In my humble opinion I think the UI could use a bit of new design (like material design), and the file manager (especially the image viewer) feels outdated (perhaps that's by security design).

I have a Galaxy S4 and I now get the "context initialization failed" error also. This makes it completely unusable. Hopefully this will be fixed soon! Used to love this app.

Unless you both (1) root your device and (2) buy the paid app, then you can't use truecrypt as mounted. In other words there is no difference between this lite app and just putting your stuff in a password protected zip file: you still have to unencrypt your stuff on disk to access it..

Great app, I successfully open a TrueCrypt volume on android and on desktop. The file browser isn't very good, though.

At the moment, this is the only program of this type with encrypted containers that works right on my phone. Luks manager and Cryptonite are buggy and broken for me.

Great app, but stopped working after latest 4.4.2 update. The app starts up, but the containers appear empty. Otherwise would give 5 stars

I basically can't do anything on my galaxy s4. And definatly can't access my hidden files... Also $8 is ridiculous why not have an ad version and a cheap version? What also blows is I have to buy it because it honestly is a clean app, just your trying to profit to much.

Superb solution for opening TrueCrypt containers, making it perfect for storing your passwords. UI not great, but fully functional. Combine this with FolderSync to store your passwords in cloud storage.

Yes, you can mount your file on KitKat even if it is on SD card! Context initialization failed message appears because your container is not on internal memory but on SD card. All we know, on Kit Kat we don't have write access! So I found a simple solution: press on your container till you see the context menu, select properties and than check the box for "read only" and type your password - you will see no more "Context initialization failed "!

Worked great until I upgraded to Android 4.4.2. Now all I get is "Context initialization failed". Lost all my protected data.

Used this with TrueCrypt to keep my sensitive files secure on the go. I have been using TrueCrypt for many years and am happy to have found a stable app that supports my containers on the go. The built in file manager is nice and makes it easy to add or remove files from the container on the go. Nice work!

Took a bit of time to figure out how to make it work, but now I've done it seems to work O.K. A bit limited in functionality, I'd like to see a fake password and dialer access. Paid for version requires root maybe in a few weeks if I hit limitations on free version.

I'm trying several apps like this and none uses the new Android API to write on external sdcards, after user authorisation. So they all fail at writing. "If the builders built like prohrammers program the first woodkeeper would destroy the civilisation" (cit, I am a software engineer...)

Opens (AES only or Serpent only or Towfish only) TrueCrypt containers perfectly in EDS Lite version. EDS website a must read for proper use of this app and limitations in the Lite version. This is an amazing app when used properly. Will be getting pro version. A Huge Thanks to the developer!!!

Except for the slightly clunky interface, this is a great security app. Truecrypt support means you can use the encrypted data on your PC as well.

Might as well use an encrypted zip. Can't mount encrypted file to be visible to the rest of the phone; only access it through this app itself.

Useless. Unencrypted file left in temp folders. This is totally stupid. Even after the container is closed, the unencrypted files are left in the temp folder. Does not support on the fly decryption of videos.

Just move your container file in your external sdcard to this specific directory which is also in your external sdcard: /Android/data/com.sovworks.edslite

Does the PRO version support mounting on a rooted Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with OEM kernel? Also, I stored some pictures in the container and some pictures were turned sideway. I rotated them in EDS but when I went back, it was back to sideway.
